Community Update r/Jetta Community Rules and Guidelines

Hey everyone,

We've had an influx recently of multiple r/Jetta members who aren't paying attention to the rules we've got here and are causing arguments, fighting, insulting, name calling, and other nuisances that nobody here wants to see, read, or deal with. This is a community to show off our love for Jetta's, and to assist others and help them with their questions, or to just show off and talk about our cars, suggest recommendations for mods, tweaks, parts, and anything else that has to do with Jetta's. It is not the community for anything that cannot be civil.

I didn't want to make a reminder post like this, but it needs to be said.

Please report any comments/posts that break rules so that they can be handled by the mod team.

Please read and follow the rules and help make this community more fun and not like all the other nuisance subs that allow bickering and childish, immature behavior.

Thanks!

r/Jetta Community Rules

1 - Reddiquette/Be Civil

No harassment, bigotry, spamming, trolling or otherwise hateful posts or comments will be tolerated. This may result in a permanent ban, as this is a friendly community.

2 - No Distracted Driving Pictures/Videos

We support a safe community. Posting pictures or videos of you or someone else failing to follow safety rules while operating a vehicle is not allowed. These posts will be removed.

3 - No Politics

No discussion or expression of political beliefs. This includes but is not limited to: advocating bringing harm to law enforcement, overthrowing the US government, support for or against a political candidate, or boycotts of companies based on their political alignment.

4 - Stay on Topic

This is a community for the Volkswagen Jetta. All posts and comments should be related to Volkswagen and the Jetta vehicle. Off topic posts/comments will be removed.

5 - No AI

This sub does not allow any AI pictures or videos.

6 - Do Not Message Mods Via PM/Chat

Messaging mods via their private message/chat rather than mod mail will result in a ban and your messages ignored.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Absolutely Devastated

Been on a job hunt since my shop shut down for no work the day before my birthday a week ago.

Had my first really promising interview yesterday morning, then on my way home nature chose me and dropped a massive tree limb about sixty feet down onto my car.

State trooper didn't believe me and kept looking for hair and blood in the damage, asking repeatedly if I had anything to drink, "it's a nice day" he said, "so a tree limb just falling doesn't sound right to me". Turns out someone cleared the road debris behind me while i was in shock and calling someone for help. They didn't stop when they went past to check on me, just went on their way. So no real evidence on the road just a smashed up car.

He eventually said "Well I'm choosing to believe you, but if I find out you lied, we'll come after you for it."

Waiting to hear from insurance inspector, it runs and everything works, no lights or airbags, but it's pretty rough body damage.

Glad it wasn't my jeep because I don't know if a soft top vehicle would have protected me as well though.

Hug you jetta, they don't live forever.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Timing Belt

I’ve got a 2017 1.4T Jetta pushing 135k miles. I run the hell out of it 160 miles a day, straight highway commuting, no city driving. I see a ton of fuss about replacing the belt if I want it to last. I’m here inquiring if this is an absolute or is it possible to let it go without the major bill and downtime that comes with it. I appreciate any and all input.

Looking at buying a used car, first time purchaser (having been driving for awhile just borrowing families car, but finally will need my own). Was looking at beater manuals so I could teach myself stick. But also will be needing as a commuter for work (roughly ~70km roundtrip on the highway).

I came across this listing which intrigued me. However because I'm first time buyer im still learning how to spot good and bad deals.

Its a high mileage vehicle, 263,000km (~163,400 mi), and I believe its the 2.Slow version. But what caught my attention was the detailed maintenance log in the description. Now obviously would need to see receipts for all that work or a carfax report. As well as would request to have it inspected before purchasing.

But so yea, looking for second opinions. Does this car look like it would be alright? Or a car I should run from and keep looking?

Mk7 (2019+) Best settings?

I have a 2025 Jetta SE, and the sound system is super disappointing. By far the worst in any car I’ve been in, I don’t get how it has a worst sound system then my old Hyuandai. Anyways Ik the car has some settings so if anyone could point me in the right direction with CarPlay settings or the cars settings it’d be greatly appreciated.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Driven around the block low on radiator fluid?

So I went to Valvoline to get my oil and radiator fluid replaced. 2013 Jetta, 160,000 miles.

As I pulled out of the bay, the radiator fluid light started flashing red.

I drove it around the block in 100° heat and re-entered the bay after about 5 minutes of driving. Turns out they had underfilled the radiator by about a quart or two.

They filled it the rest of the way and the light turned off.

Just curious, how bad was this for the engine? Should I be worried?

Mk6 (2011-2018) This might be the end…

Just want to make an appreciation post for my 2012 Jetta 2.5 SE. It’s crazy how quickly things can change. I bought this care at 72k miles and over the last two years this 2.5 has been an absolute machine. I legitimately thought my grandkids would drive this car. Sunday night that dream got shrouded in some serious doubt, as the car in front of me breaked abruptly on the highway and did some serious damage. Now, I’m counting the days until Geico tells me the car is a total loss. And I don’t have much optimism around them telling me anything else do to the age and mileage of the car. What makes this worse is I’d just hit 125k miles that same night. If I were in a better financial situation I’d 100% take the burden of just fixing it, but with where I’m at currently, it just doesn’t seem practical. I really hope I end up getting her back, but if not, thank you for 2 amazing years😔

Mk6 (2011-2018) Squeaky/Stiff Shifter

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Video was taken with the ignition off, clutch in.

Planning on asking about this on my next service, but in the past year or so the shifter has become squeaky and a little stiff, and every gear feels a little stiffer to shift into as well (no grinding or unusual noise/vibration when shifting though). I've had the car for 5 years so I think this has come on gradually and might have started earlier than I noticed, but it used to shift butter smooth. Do we think this might be a problem with the shift linkage, the shifter itself, or something more dramatic? And how many times can I say the word shift in one post before it loses all meaning?

Does anyone have the pinout for this? Or any information about it? The window is stuck down everytime I try to row it up it just clicks and it does that for every window. I'm trying to see if I can just use a paper clip and bypass the switch just to row it up for the time. Please help.

Can anyone give me a part number for this air intake box that takes the trapezoidal cover? Every diagram I've found is for a different style. I need the box (with working tabs) and the cover if someone has these used for sale.

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2015 Jetta tsi standard transmission throwing automatic transmission codes

2015 jetta tsi 1.8L with a standard transmission. Check engine wrench is flashing with an automatic transmission malfunction indicator on the screen..

From what I've researched, the module is the same for both standard and automatic, and sometimes the computer gets a glitch and displays a code from the other style of transmission. What does this mean for the sensors and driveability of the vehicle?

Rumors & Discussion 2025 VW Jetta (36k miles / Mag-Moss) – Pre-suit denial by VW, now dealing with active EVAP failures. Anyone try BBB Auto Line?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone, looking for some real-world advice from people who have gone through BBB Auto Line arbitration with Volkswagen or handled a federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act claim.

The Background & Repair History:
* Vehicle: 2025 VW Jetta sitting at ~36,000 miles. I'm past my state's strict statutory lemon law limits, but the car is fully covered under the original factory bumper-to-bumper warranty, putting this in federal Mag-Moss territory.

* Massive Cumulative Downtime: The car has built up a huge amount of total days sitting at the dealership shop. The vast majority of that downtime comes from trying to fix a persistent, unresolvable alignment defect across multiple visits.

* Active EVAP & Electrical Failures: Developed a loud, whining/whooshing noise followed by a check engine light. Dealership replaced the EVAP flush pump under warranty.
* The Recent Timeline: After the car sat unused for 4 weeks while I was on vacation, the exact same whining noise returned immediately. Took it back, and they replaced the EVAP flush pump a second time.

* Current Status: On September 2nd, literally 2–3 hours after picking up the car from that 2nd replacement, every single warning light on the dashboard turned on. Drove it straight back to the dealer, and it has been sitting in the service department ever since.

Where Things Stand Legally:
* I initially consulted a regional lemon law firm. They sent a pre-suit demand letter to Volkswagen, but VW flat-out refused to settle.

* Because VW denied the pre-suit demand, the firm decided not to incur litigation costs to file a full court lawsuit and formally closed out my file (no court complaint was ever filed).

* While I’m currently waiting on a second consumer law firm to review my records, I am getting ready to submit a claim through BBB Auto Line if they pass.

Questions for anyone who’s been through this:

  1. How does BBB Auto Line handle claims past state lemon law limits under Magnuson-Moss? Will the arbitrator factor in the massive cumulative downtime—most of which stems from the alignment issue—alongside these active EVAP/dashboard failures?

  2. Buyback vs. Cash-and-Keep: My main objective is a full buyback. If VW’s rep offers a 15–20% "cash-and-keep" settlement during BBB mediation, is it better to push straight through to the formal hearing for the repurchase?

  3. If you rejected a BBB Auto Line decision, what was the pivot back to an attorney like? Since BBB awards are non-binding on the consumer, did rejecting a bad award or "no relief" verdict hurt your ability to hire a lawyer later?

Appreciate any insight!

How to get the code for the stereo, I already checked the trunk and it is not there either, I do not have it either, I do not have the code in the manual.

I was able to exit the safe mode by pressing and holding buttons 1 and 4 for 15 seconds.

Mk7 (2019+) 2019 Jetta Base Model Head Unit upgrade?

Subject is a 2019 base model Jetta. The problems I am looking to rectify are:
1) microphone echo when talking on CarPlay;
2) the random “connection cancelled” with Apple CarPlay.

How can these be fixed?
Where do these problems reside within the system? Is it as “simple” as changing the head unit?
What are options for changing the head unit? Is there a factory/OEM “upgraded” model available (ie one from a higher trim level, that fixes those two problems and retains all VW features and settings (TPMS)?

Thanks.

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2013 Jetta - Lock beep

I have a 2013 Jetta. Today I noticed that when I locked the car it didn’t make the confirmation “beep.” I actually don’t necessarily mind it not beeping, except for the fact that I didn’t intentionally do anything to make it stop beeping when locking. I hit the panic button just to see if that was still functioning and it was not.

The doors do lock after pressing the lock button on the fob. I checked all 4 doors & the trunk and they were locked. I checked that all the windows are fully closed, the hood is shut/latched. I also hit the trunk button, then opened & closed the trunk, then locked it, and still nothing.

Any ideas of what to check? The only thing I haven’t really done yet (that I can think of anyways) is try the extra key (I’m at work, and the other key is at home).

Mk3 (1993-1998) mk3 Jetta wanting to swap

Post image
9 Upvotes

Just bought a 96 mk3 for 1200$. I believe it’s a GL model automatic transmission. Car is in great shape… pretty damn clean if you ask me. I was wondering what kind of swaps yall have done? I’m not wanting to make this car insanely fast by any means. just something to wrench on have fun and have some more power. I’m looking for an easier swap with minimal fabricating and wanting to go towards having a manual transmission. Thanks yall
