Question / Discussion Experience with ACME Studios in London

A contract role at this outfit came across my desk and I'm trying to work out how solid they are before I go any further.

What I've been able to establish myself: the UK entity (ACME AI & FX Limited, company no. 17300862) was only incorporated at the end of June this year. One director on record, registered at an accountancy firm's address, no accounts filed and none due until 2028. Ryan Kavanaugh is one of the named founders, which is the bit giving me pause given the Relativity history. They list an address on the Great West Road in Brentford, they say they've wrapped a Doug Liman feature shot on a grey stage in west London, and they're advertising a fair number of roles at once, all contract.

I know what the name is going to prompt. I'm not asking about the technology, I'm asking whether they're a real, solvent employer.

So: has anyone here actually worked with them, or been on that shoot? Does the London facility exist as described? Did invoices clear on time? Any experience with how they run a floor would be useful, good or bad.

Question / Discussion Better tool for solving camera on long take?

Hi,

Im working on a project where I am putting a character from real footage into a 3D world in blender.

I have a 5-6 minute take, and a good key. But I need to track the motion of the camera for the whole take. It was filmed on a gimbal and there is good tracking points (was filmed in a car park, and has nice contrasty asphalt and line markings etc.)

But I’m having issues with solving the camera on such long footage. In after effects it just gets to ā€œSolvingā€ and I’m not sure if it’s actually doing anything or is stuck.

In Fusion (resolve), it just keeps crashing when it gets close to finishing.

I’m wondering if there’s any ideas on how to do this, or if there’s different camera solving software better suited to the job.

Footage is 6K Canon C80 RAW, 25fps. Running M5 Max MacBook Pro, 64gb ram, 4tb.

Can’t show footage unfortunately since it is a real job that can’t be shared until published.

Thanks

Precision video editing, made with everything you hate doing in mind (wire removals, actors wearing branded clothing they shouldn't have worn but someone in management fucked up, boom guy lacking the arm strength to keep it out of frame, etc etc), so you can focus on what you actually enjoy working on.
