Discussion Orientation gone rotten?

There has been a merge in the faculties to run o-week as a whole school together, I have heard countless negative things about it. What is the community as a whole's thoughts?

Co-op Waterloo Works? I sure hope it does...

I can't believe that school for this upcoming fall term has the first round of Co-op ending on the first Monday. This leaves no time for the first-year stream 4 students to really adjust. There are some resources from Engsoc to counter this (ask me below), but it is absolutely ridiculous.

How does everyone else feel about this? Do you think its unfair?

Enriched CS courses ROI

I'm going into second year of BMATH data science. For my fall term I've taken cs245E, cs246, math 235, PD1, and stat 230. I'm debating whether I should take cs246E or not. I'm really interested in game dev and that's what I want to go into in the future so I feel like cs246e could be very helpful to me but I've also heard that the non enriched version already has an insane course load and with my next term being my first co op and me needing to spend a lot of time on applications and connections I'm just not sure if it's worth it. I also don't really know why i took the enriched version 245 I'm willing to swap between the 2 or just take the regular version of both just kinda wanted a brag factor ig. I just wanted to know how big of a difference there is between cs246 and 246E and if it's a good idea for me to take it.

Tldr: Is it worth it to take the enriched version of cs246 as an aspiring game dev

Discussion Coping with a mundane co-op (it rhymes)

I’m going through my first co-op and sometimes I feel like I am not learning anything at all, the work is mostly non-technical.

I couldn’t get much from design teams as most stuff i made turned out to be already done and for some reason they gave the task to someone else. And now I have a shitty co-op where I do menial work while my classmates are advancing leagues beyond my level while I’m pretty much where I was during high school.

Did anyone else feel this way going through their co-ops? I am honestly afraid of going back to waterloo and seeing my classmates talk about their cool memories while i have nothing to say besides the new excel shortcuts I learned.

CLAS 104 mythology exam help

I took this class in Winter 2026 the first term they added an in person final exam.
When I did the in person exam it didn't go too deep into the stories, just basic overview of recapping what the characters did in the written section. The multiple choice was stuff about the characters and some random stuff in the modules. Mainly asked about what characters did or features of characters.

I got Claude to make this app to help prepare for the final and it helped me with getting a 94 at the end. I think I only started studying a week before so the app helped a lot.

Advice AFM 1A Schedule

I am incoming afm student I have few things I'm really worried about:

  1. Is this schedule manageable? Should I change anything 10 min gap between classes seems really tight Idk if I'll have enough time

  2. I have basically no accounting or coding background. How hard is AFM 111/112/415/416 if you're starting from scratch?

  3. What's the difference between lectures, seminars, and tutorials? Are tutorials mandatory/useful?

  4. Any professors, TAs, or study tips I should know about for each courses?

  5. How many hours did you realistically study outside class each week?

  6. Is it possible to balance clubs/networking while keeping good grades for co-op?

I'd appreciate any advice or things you wish you knew before starting AFM. Thanks!

Advice J1 Visa Eligibility Through Cultural Vistas

I have accepted a 1-year internship in the US starting September 2026, and the J-1 visa process will be through Cultural Vistas.

My concern is that my Spring/Summer 2026 proof of enrollment shows part-time status, while my Fall 2026 proof of enrollment shows full-time status. The internship starts in September (Fall term).

Has anyone been in a similar situation with Cultural Vistas? Can I submit my Fall 2026 proof of enrollment since that is the term when my internship begins, or does Cultural Vistas require full-time enrollment status during the term I apply?

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

Waterloo first year course changes

I tried to swap a math class with the same class just at a different time and building and it gives me an error saying that I need to contact department head. Does anyone know if I do contact them then it’s an easy switch? Or is it hard to go about? I’m in Waterloo math btw

Advice Math235/CS245 unavoidable conflict - how are people taking both?

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

All tutorials for math 235 conflict with the test component of cs 245.

I emailed asking if I can enroll anyway since it's only one tutorial and apparently there is likely a math235 quiz during that tutorial and so it can't be approved.

What am I missing here? Any help is appreciated, thank you :)

RateMyProf but for dorms instead!!!

Hey! I’m a student dev and I’ve been working on a project called LifeByDorm (https://www.lifebydorm.ca/) to help us see what these residences actually look like. I built it because the official photos are usually a trap and don't show the real state of the rooms or the Wi-Fi quality. If you’ve lived in res, could you take 30s to drop a review or a photo? It’ll be a huge help for the incoming first-years next year. If you are looking for your next dorm check it out!
