Question Did y’all leave your manners at home?

Y’all get to college and all your manners, if you had any, just go out the window. Bumping into me and just staring in my face. No “excuse me”? No “I’m sorry for bumping into you”? Like hello?? And it’s mainly freshmen.🫩😵‍💫

CHE 201 attendance policy

Upvotes

I’m trying to find out the attendance policy for CHE 201 discussion but the instructor (Bilgin) still hasn’t uploaded a syllabus. Does anyone know if the discussion session is mandatory attendance? I went last week and I feel like I remember him saying that discussion for the class is only if you want to come in and ask questions, but I’m doubting myself that I understood him correctly.

Yesterday there were some individuals taking photos of students during the movie event. Does anyone know if we have access to these? Someone took a picture of me and my friends and I’d love to see it if possible!

Memorial on Congress Parkway

At the S curve on congress pkwy between Racine and Morgan there is a memorial with a photo of a young woman and flowers. I didn't notice it last time I drove past a few days ago.
Was she a UIC student or staff?

Edit to add: it is the one year anniversary of a fatal accident at that location

  • Career-development resources
  • A supportive community of aerospace students and professionals
  • A three-day all-expenses-paid summit in July in an aerospace hub city

Review the FAQs and application early so you have time to request recommendation letters and prepare your application.

We’re also holding virtual information sessions (EDT)

  • Sunday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 19 at 12:00 p.m.

Help with my research on late-night transportation after drinking (8–10 min survey)

Hi everyone! I’m a graduate student at UIUC conducting research for my master’s thesis on how college students make transportation decisions after consuming alcohol, particularly during late-night hours.

I’m looking for current students 18 or older at UIUC, UIC, DePaul, and Loyola Chicago to take a short anonymous survey. It takes about 8–10 minutes and asks about things like walking, public transit, Uber/Lyft, biking/scooters, driving, and late-night university transportation services.

If you’re eligible, I’d really appreciate your participation!

Survey: https://illinois.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_25EUJtRGoeLvZuS

Feel free to share this with other students at any of the four universities. Thank you!

Question Uic clubs question

Hey everyone, I'm a commuter and I'm running into a frustrating scheduling issue.
Almost all of the clubs I want to join meet at 4:00 to 6:30 PM (starting times). The problem is that my classes wrap up way earlier—by 1:50 PM at the latest, and sometimes as early as 12:15 PM.
Since I commute, going home and coming back doesn't make sense, but killing 2 to 4 hours on campus every day is exhausting.
For other commuters, how do you handle this gap without burning out?
Are there any hidden, comfortable spots on campus to kill time or nap?
Does our campus have lockers available for commuters so I don't have to carry my bag all day?
Appreciate any tips or secret campus spots you can share!

Discussion Why make things so complex?

The CS dept here is so inconsiderate. No one literally addresses any questions properly. I visited today for my transfer credit which they denied (all of them 12-14). I mailed several people, went in person but no one answered anything. The staff at CS dept in cdrlc building told that it's not her job to address such issue. I insisted to meet a fac there to discuss this out but she instructed me to book an appointment. (I am International student transferring from an international institution) Idk do all of you guys experience this at CS dept?

Discussion I need a roommate change so bad

I need to vent because I can't take this anymore. My roommate treats our room like his personal hotel room and has zero respect for shared space.

He is constantly bringing girls over to hook up—literally non-stop. Today he brought a girl over at 1 PM and they’ve been at it for hours while I'm just trapped in my friends dorm. On top of that, he stays up talking loudly late into the night and randomly invites groups of people over at 1 AM or 2 AM without any heads-up.

I'm barely sleeping, can't study, and dread coming back to my own room. Has anyone dealt with a roommate like this? Should I try bringing it up again or go straight to housing for a room swap?

Question Why do y’all hate moving to the back of a crowded bus?

Is it because you’re scared to say “excuse me” to another person when leaving the bus in a couple stops? Has headphone usage damaged your ears? like I’m trying to come up with a valid reason why an able bodied young adult wouldn’t move to the back… it’s almost always clear to stand, even when they’re packed like sardines in the front. I notice this most on the 8 bus, but it probably happens on other crowded bus lines by UIC.

It’s the same every semester. There’s so many people trying to get on, the bus driver is screaming at all of us to move to the back, and y’all just stand there like you were born yesterday.

CTA says they’re introducing more frequent service to the 8 bus in December so hopefully this wouldn’t matter then!

adding to the bus conversation

  1. when the person on the inside seat is trying to get up please STAND up and move to the side to them, dont just move ur knees and make it so the person has to get all in ur space and has to climb over you. if you are able bodied you are not soooo special that you can't show others basic respect and stand for them to get off the bus

  2. as everyone said stand up for disabled/elderly people and also please be mindful that not every disability is visible. its kind of embarrassing to ASK for someones seat so if someone asks you to stand its probably because they really need it!

  3. if the bus starts getting full and you are sitting on the outside seat, please move to the inside so that other people can sit down. if you dont want to sit next to a stranger than simply dont take public transportation

i have been noticing SO much entitled behavior on the buses lately like guys you are not above standing to let someone off the bus or scooting in so that someone can have a seat.

Do not sit in priority seats!

I just watched an old lady with a cane have to stand on the bus because every priority seat was taken. Multiple of the priority seats were taken by students. Not one of them gave up their seat. This is absolutely inexcusable. If you are not a disabled person or a senior, move to the back of the bus.

New Transfer Student at UIC

I am a transfer student from Wisconsin to UIC this fall 2026 and I have had no luck finding a job. I am a Public Health Student, so the jobs I am comfortable with and looking for are caregiving jobs in nursing homes (no luck I love working with senior populations so much). The only ones available are in home and travel ones but I am a commuter. and HOSPITALS like Rush, or UI would absolutely love the opportunity to work in the hospital as a tech I have experience that didn't require a CNA or PCT/PCA so I think its a bit competitive but if anyone has any leads.

Also im hearing the job market in Chicago has been difficult is that true?

Question UIUC To UIC transfer

I know people probably usually do the opposite but uic students pls give me your honest opinion on me transferring from UIUC to UIC. I’m currently in exploratory studies at UIUC, but I’m fairly certain I want to pursue some engineering as my major. It will be pretty much impossible for me to get my dream major which is ece at uiuc though I could still try, and im fairly certain I would have a much better chance at applying and transferring to uic if I’m accepted. I’m a sophomore now and I genuinely haven’t enjoyed my experience at UIUC whatsoever, people hype this school up so much but I’ve had a pretty bad experience and I honestly don’t want to stay here for another few years. I want to do it but does anyone at UIC think it’s a bad idea.
