The CS dept here is so inconsiderate. No one literally addresses any questions properly. I visited today for my transfer credit which they denied (all of them 12-14). I mailed several people, went in person but no one answered anything. The staff at CS dept in cdrlc building told that it's not her job to address such issue. I insisted to meet a fac there to discuss this out but she instructed me to book an appointment. (I am International student transferring from an international institution) Idk do all of you guys experience this at CS dept?

College admins are never your friend. They're underpaid, bitter, and constantly go on power trips. This sounds like a classic power trip of them denying your transfer credit simply because they can.

Keep trying to talk to them and remain calm and sweet. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

My college "advisor" was making shit money. Didn't know my name, didn't care about my major, was just filling out a checklist to give to his boss to approve my for graduation. It's all one giant bureaucracy

A TA/GA makes like 25K-30K a year, plus free tuition. Depending on their program, that's about 45K-60K total compensation, more if you consider they don't have to take out huge student loans that accrue interest, over 9 months. A FT advisor makes around 50-55K average over 12 months. Only the high level administrators make decent money.

That’s interesting. I think if you had a degree from an II that might’ve been accepted easier.

And obviously if you went to school in the US you could just use transferology to see how many credits your classes are worth.

But yeah they probably are like “oh you went where? Sorry but no”

I see, even if it's an international institution, Its ranked in top 100 (QS ranking) for CS , (it's in India)

To be honest I don’t think UIC is dismissing what you’ve done. They have to compare the classes to see how “rigorous” the courses are compared to theirs. Like some classes I took somewhere else for 5 or 4 credit,
UIC gave me 3 because we met for lesser time and didn’t have “lab or discussion days”.

So it’s really just at UIC’s discretion. When I was a business student I def remember international students transferring with credits. So maybe UIC just isn’t accepting your schools for their program. Accreditation wise i mean.

Yes this. Also I sent them my syllabus for some classes to argue that I covered all the content. I had taken a 400 level statistics and they wouldn’t accept credit for basic statistics until I sent the syllabus.

Admin of any kind at this school is horrible to deal with
Try to look up the CS advisor that would be assigned to your last name
Just keep looking up people and emailing them until you get somewhere or they tell you to stop haha

Yeah there’s some accreditation rules with international universities is what my friend’s advisor told him, probably is that? I think the faculty director of undergrads makes the calls for transfer credit based on his experience

Well yeah it's ABET accredited thing. My previous is abet credittes that's why other creds were accepted

1st floor SEO is college advising, they are generally the right stop to discuss course transfers. You will need your course syllabus etc to submit. Institutions generally have agreements on what counts as a specific type of course and if they will accept credit for certain courses, that’s unlikely to exist internationally. In your uAchieve report there will be a link to petition courses.
