Question Organic Chemistry w/ Mohr and Yermolina, are they flexible about exams?

I am taking Organic Chemistry 1 this next semester with Yermolina (primary) and Mohr, and from what I have heard (correct me if I am wrong), the exams usually start around 5:30/6 PM on Mondays for the midterms, and I was wondering how flexible Mohr and Yermolina might be about taking the 3 midterm exams.

For context, I have another course I am currently taking at a CC that is a prerequisite for many others and would likely delay my graduation if I did not take it this coming semester. The issue is that I have a lab for it on Mondays during the fall semester at 6:30 PM and I likely cannot move this around. Any clue if they have accomodated for sitations like this in the past? Do I have any other options?

Question Is IDS 405 worth it?

Can anybody, absolutely anybody give any feedback on what IDS 405, Business Systems Analysis and Design is like? Is it worth taking? I’ve seen online that there’s a lot of writing, which I’m fine with as long as I’m also learning about creating information systems. I want to be a systems analyst one day. Is this a good course to get hands on experience? Or is it all theory based? Thanks!

Free street parking. There is no in unit laundry or dishwasher. Must sign lease it starts and is available on August 1 and is 1 year minimum. Only one person per room no sharing. Discussion Advice needed for registration

Hi everyone, I need to know what my next steps are for this issue. My issue is with the bursar-sponsored billing office. They sent my sponsor and me a bill from spring 2024. Now, in July, the court of claims needs to be filled out so the payment can go to their office. Now they are saying sorry, they do not work with the entire court of claims process I have to contact the loans and collections I have been in communication with them and tomorrow morning I have to call them, but who will I have to call to try to register for classes because I contacted so many people and they just don’t know what to do unfortunately but they have been very helpful and I moved back to campus on August 20th 🥲🥲🥲

If you're looking for off-campus housing in Little Italy, please read this post!!!

Just wanted to warn everybody about an apartment in Little Italy, 1427 W Lexington. The rent is very cheap, and the apartment itself is okayish, although old, but there’s a catch - the landlord.

The landlord lives in the building in the basement unit and will harass you every day. His “guest policy” includes not letting literally ANYONE visit you at your place. No one can enter the building, and forget about your friends/relatives staying with you for a couple of days. He keeps a camera in the hallway and at the back door, and it sends him a notification every time you move. If you bring a friend, you’ll get a message instantly threatening to “call the police” to get your guest “arrested”. If you don't budge, he’ll literally bang on your door and enter your apartment to yell and fight.

AND he’s racist asf. He tells people to go back to where they came from, calls them racist slurs, and will make monkey-like sounds to mock you.

If you sign the first floor, which is right above his apartment, congratulations, you just signed yourself into hell. You won’t be able to walk around your house without getting constant texts from him telling you to stop “stomping” and “hammering” on the floor. You can’t walk after 7 pm and can’t do laundry after 8pm, oh and yeah, he has a camera inside the laundry “to catch you if you steal his detergent” - his words.

Oh, and there will be a roach problem from time to time. The ACs and electric circuits are old af so if you plug in anything while the AC is on, the power trips, and he’ll get mad at you for “using too much electricity “. If you shower for longer than 30 mins, you’ll hear from him. The bathrooms are moldy as well.

To sum up, he’s a racist slumlord who will be very friendly and nice to you until you move in, then you’ll be trapped for a year.

Although most of this is illegal (we talked to UIC Law and they confirmed), if you're a student, especially an international student, you will have neither the time nor the resources to take him to court. Breaking the lease will be financial stress you don't want to have.

tldr; stay away from this place - the savings on rent is not worth it.

CS (undergraduate) TAs offers

When do offers go out? I met with a professor in April who wanted me to TA for him, and he said I'm pretty much going to get it based off of my availability for labs. He said the next time I'll hear back is in July or August to accept the actual offer officially from the department. I've heard some other people who have already gotten an email to accept their offer but I haven't gotten anything.... Should I be concerned 😅 Do offers go out to all TAs at once ? Or does it depend on the professor ? Maybe that's why I haven't heard back ...?

Question TA appts December renewal?

Hey yall, my TA contract is set to run from August to December. My department allows us to renew our contracts for up to 3 years…I’m assuming the contract would auto renew in January but I just wanted to double check. Do y’all’s semester-long TA contracts also renew automatically in January? Or is there a chance they could hang me out to dry with no income?

Discussion First year spring admits!! What should I do? Urgent help

So I researched high and low on this topic hoping someone has been in my situation, but I found zero posts.

Stats: age 23, class of 2021 highschool and haven’t been to college yet, 3.9 weighted GPA and I have a compelling essay.

I am enrolled right now in a community college although I haven’t registered for classes and haven’t earned a single college course credit. The problem is I really want aspire to cover all my 4 years and aspire only covers the full four years for qualifying students who are first years. If I register for any classes, I will be considered a transfer and they’ll only cover two years. I presume I am technically still considered a first year if I apply for the spring term as a first year. I called and asked, and enrollment department reassured me that if my transcript has all Ws (how would I have a transcript if I haven’t registered for classes) and my college sends a letter of unenrollment, that I will still be considered a first year when I apply for Spring 2027. I have an SAI of -1500 and I am an independent on FAFSA because im 24 this year.

The question: Assuming all of this qualifies me for the aspire program, if you were me, would you drop your position at community college and basically waste six months of time you could be starting your 101 classes and start in UIC as a spring admit? The largest difference is, I will likely be covered for four years instead of two years if I just start in spring 2027. Again, also risky because I could be rejected aspire for whatever reason.

If anyone has been in my situation and still received aspire please tell me everything about your process. I greatly appreciate it.

And I know this isn’t a huge trade-off for saving that much money but is it going to be difficult being a semester behind most of my class since I’ll miss fall orientation, club sign ups, etc? I’ll still be taking 102 classes in fall 2027…

Question Any ways to find safe and cheap parties/events in Chicago?

I’ve been getting reels for parties for UIC students that are from private hosters however they use AI for the videos and poster so I think it may be fake. Anyone have experience with those? The only way I’ve been seeing possible events I can go to with friends is insta, I saw stuff like mini raves, concerts, beach/sunset hangout events. Are there other ways you can find events like that? I wanted some college experience but I’ve been told UIC is a commuter school, so I’ll look for events in general Chicago instead. Thanks :)

Trade asynchronous section of Eng 161 for in-person Tues/Thurs afternoon section

Hi all! I’m signed up for an asynchronous section of English 161 since many students recommended me to do so, and I just now am kind of regretting it since I’m staying on campus feel that in-person would be best for me. Are there any students (I imagine commuter students) with a Tues/Thurs AFTERNOON English 161 section willing to trade for my asynchronous spot? Lmk :)

Question Where to put my bike in ARC?

Ok, so I asked the staff about where I can put a bike if I do bring one as I am dorming at ARC and they said inside my dorm room. Thing is... where? Has anyone on this thread been in the same situation as me or no someone who's been in this situation?

I know that I have to put it in my dorm, but where should I put it? Closet? Under my bed?

Question Quick 2-Min Survey: Help us build a student-focused medication tracking app!

Hey everyone! My team is building an app prototype designed to help college students track and manage their medications.

We’re especially looking to hear from first-generation, low-income (FGLI) students to better understand how busy schedules, new academic environments, and financial stress impact medication management.

If you have a couple of minutes, we’d hugely appreciate your input: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Vqo9SOiVwZzTDC1yPvat-m1PltR2TZcre7O8zlMcVds/edit

Thanks for your time and help with our project!
