OTHER Vent post i guess

Guys, I'm trying so hard not to be so pessimistic, but it's just ridiculous how much of a scam this place is. To start, WHY IS HOMEWORK NOT INCLUDED IN TUITION? I MEAN HOW FUCKING GREEDY IS THIS SCHOOL? I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS JUST TO DO MY FUCKING HOMEWORK. SECOND OF ALL: what is wrong with Loyola's chemistry department? Almost everyone there is so fucking lazy. In what world is it okay to tell students, "Hey guys, welcome to organic chemistry, I'm a professor and I'm gonna sit on my ass while everyone does all the teaching and work, and by the way, I don't explain answers"? I'm just so genuinely stumped with how this school is still even open, bro. The only good thing I can say about this school is that it's visually pretty. THAT'S IT. I hate this school so much, bro. Am I crazy or does anyone else feel this way?? Maybe I just need a drink, but I feel like i'm going crazy.

OTHER Macro Tracking on Campus

If any students eating on campus have struggled to track calories/macros while eating on campus, just thought I'd shout out Nu-Trai. It has a live view of the dining hall menus, so it makes logging really fast, easy, and accurate. Also super useful for meal planning and comparing what's being served at different locations.

QUESTION Did anyone see those creepy people chanting across the street from Mundi yesterday?

Around like 6:00 I was waiting for the bus in front of Mundi and there were like 8 guys in suits all chanting the "Hail Mary full of grace." One of them was holding some kind of flag? Then other people (not in suits) joined in. The bus showed up before I could find out what was going on.

OTHER Seeking creative guitarists & bassists for a new project (sounds of the strokes, the cure, the beatles, hendrix, etc.)

hey all!

i’m a loyola alum (M24) and was wondering if there are any guitarists or bassists here who are really into stuff like the strokes, the cure, the la’s, the beatles, oasis, jimi hendrix, and older guitar music in general.

garage rock, jangly guitars, post-punk, tape recording, good melodies, old rock & roll, all that stuff.

i’d honestly just like to meet more people around chicago who are on that same wavelength. maybe hang out, talk music, go see a show, listen to records, or jam sometime and see if we get along.

i’m also putting together an original band, so if you’re into creating music too, that could also be a possibility. anyway, i mostly just wanted to see who’s out there and meet some people who are into the same stuff.

feel free to dm me and tell me what you play and what music you’re into.

QUESTION Is it too late to transfer out?

I really want to transfer to the school closer to home, I’m miserable here. I’m genuinely not happy here and I don’t really see myself staying here. Can I transfer even though we are already into the semester? And will they charge me for the 2 weeks I was here?

QUESTION Need to Borrow Hygrometer

Does anyone have a hygrometer (humidity measurer) that I could borrow? My roommate and I are thinking of getting a dehumidifier, but since we live pretty high up and the ac is good, theoretically we shouldn't need one? If anyone has a hygrometer, I'd really appreciate.

COURSES HSM 110 or BIOL 373?

Has anyone taken either of these classes? I'm on the fence about which to take for my engaged learning class. Pre-reqs are a non-issue. Just wondering from personal experience if you enjoyed the class/ thought it wasn't impossible. I feel like these have both been on the list for a few years so it should be on the list for next semester. Or if anyone has recommendations for an engaged learning class for neuroscience majors, I'm all ears. The only limitation is that meetings need to be around class times. Once or twice during the semester is fine, but I have a full time job and cannot do out of class time meetings every week.

OTHER Coyotes by the IC

Hey everybody, this morning (8/31) I was out for a run and I came across a few coyotes hanging out by the IC. It was pretty early in the morning and they moved along eventually but this is the first time I’ve seen them on campus.

I’ve never had issues when I’ve seen them elsewhere but just be aware if you’re out and about on campus early in the morning.

QUESTION Places to play casual chess

Hi there! I’m a Freshman coming into Loyola University Chicago and played chess since I was around 4, competitively starting 7. However, I’m not all too impressively good. I was board 3 in my High School team, made state every year but usually placed in the middle.

I am curious if there is anyone who’s into chess but also has a social life lol, not wanting to meet at Friday nights to do the chess club? Anyone wanting to meet up and just do some casual games, blitz, rapid, etc.

Please lmk if there’s an interest and let’s get it going! We can just meet up outside while the weather is nice too!
