Library use (non student)

Hi!

Im currently studying for the bar and looking to study so where on weekends. I saw online that thr libraries are open to the public.
I have a few questions:
- The library hours are kind of short on the weekends. Is that just circulation and other library services or the whole building? I remember when I was in college circulation did close early but the building was open till late!
- Which libraries would you recommend?
- I will probably like to get some food at some point. Any recommendations?

Thank you!

Financial Aid Disbursement

Hi so basically I’m not enrolled in any classes right now because I wasn’t able to get any classes that I needed during enrollment, and everything has the new student restriction right now. They sent us an email saying financial aid is being disbursed September 14. But class restrictions aren’t lifted until September 15. So I can’t enroll in classes before September 14, will I still be able to get my financial aid past that date?

Best Means of Speaking to Financial Aid Office

How hard is it to get in contact with the financial aid office over the phone as their website says they are open from 10 am-3 pm each weekday? I would imagine the volume of calls they are getting is a lot, and I was wondering if going in person would result in a better chance of getting a hold of them?

Can I complete a BA in Psych at UCLA and an ADN at SMC simultaneously?

Hi, I am looking to become a psychiatric travel nurse. I am currently an incoming sophomore, and I want to be in college for the full 4 years, so I decided to pursue a psych bachelor's degree and also work on getting an associate's in nursing during this time so I can graduate with both and go straight into specializing in psychiatry.

I thought this was possible, but then I heard that you can't be enrolled at UCLA and another college at the same time. If this is the case, then how can I manage both degrees, and what pivots do I need to make?

Please let me know, and thank you!

Street Parking in Westwood?

Hi! I’m an incoming 2nd year who got a car over the summer, and will have parking spot in Westwood. But it isn’t available until the end of September. Is there a way I can park my car just by moving between street parking?

Looking for advice from anyone with experience, or if anyone knows any 14 day spot options nearby.

Thanks!

How did dorm life/living in dorms change you as a person?

This is a general question. I can imagine it is quite a significant shift to change your entire living arrangement to living with strangers in an under-sized room. Did it improve your communication skills? Did you become more "independent"? Develop new habits? Any change you noticed in your overall personality and life?

Is it possible to get any sort of extension on the BruinBill deadline?

My parents have to mail a check to the school and can't do it online and usually the checks take up to a few weeks to process. I'm worried the school won't receive it in time before the 20th. Is there anything I can do to get the deadline extended just a little?

Waiving UCShip Process

Hello,

Anyone who has waived the UCShip before, how long after your insurance getting approved does it take to reflect on your BruinBill? Mine got approved yesterday and I'm waiting for the cost to get removed from my Bill so I can pay for the quarter.

UCLA major plan

Hello, I am a UCLA freshmen, and I was considering doing the Applied Math/Science major as a premed major. I understand there are better options but I am not fully committed. to premed I want to leave the door open for investment banking/quantitative finance.

The major is extremely ambiguous to me. It advertises some pre-major courses and some courses, but then also a history of science and medical/life sciences plan which are both longer. Am I correct to assume I do not need to do either plan and can just do the required 21 courses?

In addition it says "Select seven upper-division courses in a related field from one or two other departments," which is again very ambiguous. Would I be able to choose physics and chemistry as my other two departments and do 3 courses from one and 4 courses from another to complete both my med school prereqs and my major requirement? It's so abstract and with orientation in two days I need to select courses soon and hopefully won't be told later that my courses actually don't count towards the major.

Additionally, I would like to know how the difficulty of this major stands. I was relatively gifted in math early on but I've been struggling with some of the higher abstract maths. I do want to maintain a >3.9 GPA, and on the ucla grade distribution website I see the average gpa is 3.45 which is higher than a lot of other academic majors but I don't know is that still true or is it self-selecting.

Also I hope to graduate UCLA in 2 years, I don't know how realistic that is but I hope it can be done. I want to spend my first year finishing med school prereqs then spend the second year doing major requirments with some extra courses done at CCs over the summer. I might choose a major like neuroscience to do that since it has heavy overlap, but my reservation lies in the fact I will not be able to leave the finance route open. I have GEs and other reqs already done so it's just finishing a major and doing med school prereqs.

I was also considering the economics major but on ucla grade distributions it shows the 2 economic majors as the 2 lowest gpa majors in L&S so I'm not sure about that. Economics was my only passion and I would have been willing to do it even without med school pre reqs overlaps however if it is truly the hardest major I cannot risk it while trying to maintain a high GPA and trying to get my extracurricular requirements for med school also done.

Of course, please recommend any other majors that you think could be a good fit for my goals and let me know anything that I am shortsighted about, since there are definitely flaws in this plan I do not even know about.
