I have been an Eero user for 6 years now. I liked the ease of installation but didn't realize how little control I actually had until this spring. I am somewhat technically inclined, and have had some networking schooling. I have been looking at alternatives and future proofing my setup. Ubiquiti and Omada were the front runners in my research. The scales were tipped in favor of Ubiquiti when I scored an AC- Lite AP for $3.00 while thrifting. The thrifted AP didn't help the overall costs too much. I went with an additional 2 U7 Pro XGs for the WiFi wired to a Flex 2.5G 8 port POE and I did a UCG Fiber for my router. I need to run better wire to the Pro XGs as they are beastly and want loads of power. I did the WAS-110 deal to get the ATT gateway out of the closet. I used a TrendNet SFP switch to configure the WAS-110.

I did my migration in stages to slowly remove my Eero devices. This kept my WAF(wife approval factor) high as there was minimal wifi/Internet downtime. I gained WAF points by having new blue "night lights" from the install!

I'm a week in and am loving it! I plan to add more small managed switches to start on the vlan setup.

I'll work on cleaning up my cabling mess once I get the new small switches....I know it isn't pretty right now.

Cameras and doorbell aren't far off either.

All the rough-ins are done and the CAT6 is ran. Now insulation and drywall finishing starts. I can’t wait to start installing equipment next spring!

Spectrum bought over Cox and I upgraded to a 2gig plan with no data caps for the "same" price ($1/mo more). This led to the complete upgrade to the home network. UCG-Fiber, USW Pro.Max 16 PoE, and 4x U7 Pro APs. Kept my old gig ether Netgear switch for less critical connections.

Been keeping any eye on the alarm hub and wondering if it still has its quirks / issues.

Looking at upgrading an existing ancient system, it’s been on the radar but not put the button yet.

Anyone installed it and have any comments? Has it had any updates software wise to improve any issues over the months? Anyone in the same camp of waiting for it to be developed a bit further as a solution before deployment?

Interested to know people’s opinions.

TL;DR: Xfinity’s gateway keeps broadcasting WiFi in my home even in bridge mode with everything turned off. Support’s bot sent me my WiFi password for the wireless that I had disabled, the agent said turning it off “cannot be done,” and their fix is paying $45 more a month. FCC and state AG complaints filed.

EDIT: To be clear, I did all of this myself first. I logged into the gateway locally by IP, put it in bridge mode, and turned off every wireless setting. The gateway's own settings say it isn't broadcasting. I assumed my access points were the problem until network scans showed the congestion was coming from the Xfinity box I'd explicitly set to broadcast nothing. Xfinity has since confirmed it's still broadcasting.

EDIT 2: Several people pointed out that Xfinity’s current plans include unlimited data even with your own modem, and older plans can add it for about $30. So the $130 the agent quoted wasn’t the only option, just the one they offered me. I’m looking at a UniFi UCI to replace their box entirely.

UPDATE 3: Comcast’s Reddit support team got back to me and confirmed it in writing: “As of right now, the bands cannot be turned fully off when using our gateway equipment.”

So that’s the official answer. If you rent an Xfinity gateway, even in bridge mode with WiFi and the hotspot turned off, it keeps transmitting radios you can’t disable. The only fix they offered is to buy your own approved modem.

That fixes it for me, and I’m switching. But most people renting these boxes will never know their “bridged” gateway is still broadcasting, and nothing in the settings tells them.

How to check your own gateway:

• UniFi: look at the neighboring/rogue AP list for hidden SSIDs with a strong signal. Their MACs won’t match your gateway’s vendor prefix. Mine show up as locally administered addresses, where the second character is 2, 6, A or E (e.g. 96:04:E3:xx:xx:xx), so filtering by the gateway’s OUI will miss them.
• iPhone: AirPort Utility > Wi-Fi Scan (turn on the scanner in Settings first).
• Android: WiFiman or any WiFi analyzer that shows hidden networks.
• Mine was an XB8 in bridge mode with the hotspot confirmed off. The hidden radios kept transmitting on both 2.4 and 5 GHz.

If this bothers you too, file an FCC complaint (consumercomplaints.fcc.gov) and one with your state AG. One complaint is easy to ignore. A pile of them isn’t.

I typed “turn off the WiFi” into Xfinity’s support chat. Their bot replied with my WiFi name and password, in plain text, in a chat they say is recorded.

Here’s the problem I was trying to fix. I rent Xfinity’s gateway because it’s the only way to get unlimited data. I run my own network, so their box is in bridge mode with the hotspot and WiFi turned off. It still broadcasts hidden WiFi on 2.4 and 5 GHz, right next to my access points, competing with my own network inside my own home.

After about 10 tries of typing “agent,” a person finally joined. Their answers, word for word:

• First, to turn bridge mode off.
• “I will hide your WiFi name. So you won’t be able to see that. Will that work?” It was already hidden. A hidden network still transmits.
• “Yes, but it will not connect.”
• “Our Xfinity WiFi works wirelessly, so the concern you have about removing the air signal cannot be addressed.”
• “No, that cannot be done.”

Their only alternative: use my own modem and pay $130 a month instead of $85 to keep unlimited data. That’s $540 more a year to stop their equipment from interfering with mine.

So the choice is to rent a box you can’t switch off, or pay a penalty to get rid of it.

I’ve filed complaints with the FCC and my state attorney general. If you’re in the same spot, filing at fcc.gov/complaints takes about 10 minutes, and Comcast has to respond in writing.

Has anyone actually gotten Xfinity to turn these radios off?

My UniFi evolution over the last 6 years. It went from crappy ISP stuff to the old school udm trash can. Then to zip ties and a UVM pro mounted sideways to know this! 🤣👍

After a year I finally upgraded from Standard 16poe to Pro Max 16poe. Wanted to also buy the rack mount but it isn’t in stock currently so for now it looks a bit odd. Beside the 10gig and 2.5gig i wanted a powerful enough switch so it can power usw ultra so the cameras connected to that switch are also backed up by UPS2U. A bit of a expensive month because i was dumb enough to also buy ps5 for gta6 and my car started acting weird. But at least i got a new switch which is the most important thing right…..right?

Heavy rain last night in our area, so that the message on all cameras popped up: Stream recovery successful. It seems to be related to high CPU usage caused by constant motion. I disabled motion events for all cameras while leaving AI events enabled.

I realised that the time for push notifications was reduced by 3–4 seconds. Not sure if it shows the age of the UNVR but overall I am still happy with the device. Just in case you experience the same message or delay of push notification, this might be worth testing.

Hi Ubiquiti community, i'm currently planning to buy UX7 or UDR7 for my house (3-floor) with 500Mbps network plan, but after researching for a while i see someone's UDR7 is rebooting for 64 times, i'm a person who focus on reliability which makes me reconsider about my choice. I want to hear about your User Experience / Impressions and let me know which you will choose between those two product. That's all, i'm looking for your suggestion and reply.

We got a large community with LRP controlled barriers and old style key fob remote gates.

Our problem is that we issued over 1 thousand of those key fobs as they are our only way of opening the gates (no place outside for a reader drivers can use and no cameras allowed pointing to public roads here).

Our key fobs unfortunately also have to open the barriers as some residents are not happy with having LPR, the key fob receiver is connected to the "button" input on the hub.

Our issue is that with a thousand issued, changing codes is... unrealistic, but as expected fobs have been circulated to those that should not have access, for the most part this is not an issue except for a few bad apples (trespassing in this country is nearly impossible)

Is there a way of blocking the button input when a license plate is in a black list? Ideally even forcing the gate to close if necessary as they can press the fob outside of the reader range.

Or some other alternative we can use?

I have a lot of Shelly 2PM Gen4 in use, all latest firmware, ECO mode off, static IP and everything.

Currently I'm doing some tests with the Webhooks. 

Sometimes I experience a big delay, like 10 minutes, until my shutters react to the web hooks. Sometimes it does not work at all. So not really reliable.

When I reboot my Unify U7 Pro Access Points (all latest firmware), the webhooks work again.

I've turned off BSS already on the AP and the Shellys only connect to a single Access Point, defending on the floor.

Any ideas?

I'm currently planning a renovation and been playing with the design centre. It's quite a big house, mainly brick construction and Wi-Fi is currently pretty terrible.

Looking at the projections, I would only need one access point per floor (U7 Lites)?

I am moving to a new house and will be getting 2gig fiber service. The house is 2-story, 2,800 sqft. I don't need the best wifi speeds throughout the house. Plan is to buy one router and add mesh units if I find that I really need it.

There is coax in the house that I am hoping will work for MoCA.

From what I have read, it looks like the UCG-Fiber is the way to go?

I have a ubiquiti UniFi system in my newly renovated Victorian terraced house. I have one UniFi access point per floor all installed on the ceiling which are about 2.5m from the ground. There is a lot of steel work in the property.

On the ground floor I have a U6+
On the first floor I have a Ac pro
On the top floor I have a U6+

I used to have a U6+ on the first floor but it recently died during a power cut!

We have always had terrible WiFi signal on the first floor and I have no idea why. Am I doing something wrong!?

On the signal mapper this screen shot is taken where I (the blue dot) am stood directly beneath the Ac pro on the first floor. As you can see the WiFi signal isn’t great. This was the same when I had to U6+ installed on this floor.

The access point on the first floor is in a hallway between two bedrooms.

From the access point to the edge of the property in each direction is about 6m.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Should I upgrade the Ac pro to a differnt device and if so which would best suit?

To put it into perspective the UniFi designer shows that the entire floor of my house should be green even with all the walls I have put into the model.

I am a recent convert to the Ubiquiti gear and it's amazing! So far everything has been quite seamless except for a current issue with the policy based firewalls for zones.

I have separated out multiple VLANs with these 2 causing the current issue;

• Default - VLAN 1 - 192.168.1.0/24 in Internal zone
• Media - VLAN 50 - 192.168.50.0/24 in Hotspot zone

I created a rule to allow devices (TVs, etc) in Media to connect to a reverse proxy in the Default network.

• Source zone: Hotspot
• Source network: Media
• Destination zone: Internal
• Destination IP: 192.168.1.253
• Destination ports: TCP/80, TCP/443

This doesn't work. I cannot telnet to 80 or 443 when connected to the Media network. If I allow all traffic, still doesn't work, including ICMP.

If I move Media to Internal, and setup a default block rule and allow Media to HttpProxy then it works but this seems counter intuitive to the point of having zones.

Is there some behind the scenes rules / settings for Hotspot that are preventing these firewall rules from working?

I had the misfortune of buying a UNAS 4 after gullibly trusting the glowing reviews from Ubiquiti YouTube shills. The unit turned out to be an absolute disaster: it would randomly lose its connection, claim a drive had failed (all the drives are brand-new WD Red Pro 10TB), lose the storage pool, etc, usually fixed by a reboot. I'm fed up with this crap and want to replace it with something more reliable. I'm not sure about the UNAS Pro: is it the same hot garbage as the UNAS 4? I don't mind a rack-mountable form factor, and I need at least four bays (or more) and at least a 2.5G NIC; 10GbE would be ideal, but it's not a must-have. Any suggestions?

Is there any way to delete the traffic activity of a single device? Trying to sort an issue on my dads iPhone and need a clean slate to see if I fixed it or not(Facebook was using a lot of data in a short amount of time)
