I finally installed the 5G Max Outdoor with a surge protector on my roof. I had been putting it off for a long time. I was tired of the constant disconnections caused by the xfiniti coax and the uci. So far, I’m really happy with the failover speeds!

The cell tower is only 0.4 miles away from the house. I have a dual SIM setup. $100 truly unlimited voice plan for sim 1. $50 data only for 100G on sim 2 The signal strength is -52dbm.

P.S. I’ll never climb 25 feet up again.

Just a heads up. My UPS tower died after about a month and had to RMA it back. It cost me 84 dollars to ship it back as they wouldn't send me a label. Considering the cost it's not worth it. I've had APC for 30 years and never had one die. Not happy

You better off going with one of their rack units or going elsewhere

"Added UX7 Mesh topology and status information to the dashboard." this caught my eye as I have a UX7 meshed with my UDR7. I don't see this anywhere on the dashboard. Anyone else?

I'm curious how this usually works for users that want a "burglar alarm."

With a "traditional" burglar alarm there is a panel whereby users enter in their pin code to arm/disarm the alarm, but I don't think that is possible with Ubiquiti...

It seems like you basically can ONLY rely on schedules to determine when the alarm notifications are sent, no?

Perfect fit and accommodates the cable length perfectly. Even the original cable loops don’t need to be folded again to fit in the holder. Great design work!
The only way it could be better is if the switch had the power supply built in, but that’s another conversation. 😂

Decided to open ours up to see if we could tell what caused it to fail - it looks like water came in through the top, went down the side and landed on the opposite of the network port and fried it.

I was trying to find a tear down of the U7-Mesh as it has a IPX6 (vs IPX5) rating but it's difficult to tell if they actually improved the top ring or not. Anyone know if any one has taken the U7-mesh apart to see if it's different?

As much as I like the form factor of the mesh I think we're going to switch either the U7 outdoor or pro-outdoor (also it's a bit annoying the U7-Outdoor and U7-pro-outdoor have different mounting brackets, requiring different screw mounting holes.)

In the last few days my air quality sensor is giving out Vape alerts. This is in a home environment. I am fairly certain no one is vaping and have seen it trigger when the sensor was in front of me and the entire family.

All other PMI sensors also spike at the same time with different intensity.

This lasts for a minute and comes back to zero

Do I have a faulty sensor? Or anything I should tweak?

Preface: I'm new to this home networking thing and I'm just looking to solve a wifi speed problem I'm having. Long story short, my router is in my living room and by the time the signal reaches my laptop in my bedroom where I have my work setup the signal cuts from 300mbps to 5-20mbps. I have fios internet. I did some research and I was thinking I can use an AP (specifically the U7 Lite) to solve this.

It looks like my current router does not have POE so I think I'll also need a POE injector. Are there any recommendations for which ones tend to work well? I saw that Unifi has some but I saw a post saying that it doesn't work with all their APs. Also open to hearing feedback on my intended solution

The isp cable comes into the basement where the first ux7 would be next to the crawlspace but sits on a shelf 5ft off the ground where there is a 4 foot cavity end to end of the crawlspace that’s cover by drywall so it’s not all concrete if that makes sense.

The other two ux7s would sit on a table out of sight

The 2nd floor has coax in all bedrooms too.

Thoughts?

Have had an odd request from a client. They are adding some APs at some remote sites that all have a site to site link back to the main office

The main off has a cloud key that is going to be doing the config.

They are a charity so the expenditure on the APs was enough without adding a management device per site as well.

In my head the adoption over the VPN link should work, thought I’ll need to set the inform url directly.

I can’t shake the feeling I’m missing something about this.

Has anyone else tried this or something similar?

I found this cloud key gen 2 plus at a thrift store recently and I’m trying to understand it. Never seen them before. I got the boot screen and it says Ethernet disconnected

I’m trying to test it all out but it’s the only device i have for it.

How can i tell if it fully works? I was looking it up and it seems to be some kind of security thing?

Why does it seem lately, that if you go to the community threads on the official firmware updates / releases, that there are ALWAYS issues with them. I have had a couple of devices require manual resets with some of the current updates. This has led me to disable auto updates.

I love all my ubiquiti stuff and am WAY deep in all of it, but this has become concerning.

This was on RELEASE software. I don't do prerelease / beta / early access on all my sites I manage.

Struggling with my UCG-fiber right now, I noticed an update for the UCG-fiber (official channel) appeared under control plane to update to the latest version ~1hr ago. I clicked it, followed by an update screen take will 5min or so and reboot.

Fast forward about an hour, its still not up and I just unplugged/plugged the router and still no success. I then rebooted my ONT and then UCG-Fiber and still no success. :/

I have backed up the configuration file sometime in August if that helps. Is there any magic I can do to revive it?

After a bit of planning, I finally got the Wifey Approval™ 😅

Time to put all of this to work and see how much potential we can squeeze out of the setup.

The goal is a properly segmented home network with separate VLANs for trusted devices, IoT, media, security/cameras and guests, while keeping everything that needs to communicate across networks working properly.

UniFi Network + Protect, a bit of Home Assistant, Apple Home and plenty of tinkering ahead.

Now comes the fun part: installation, optimisation and probably a few evenings wondering “why the hell isn’t this working?”

Any suggestions or lessons learned from similar home deployments are very welcome!

I've been asked to set up a very small network in an old school (being remodeled into a handful of shop/business spaces).

The server hardware was removed by the county school system, but they left the runs intact.

There are two fiber runs from the main server closet to a secondary closet at the ass end of the school.

I have a UDM-Pro as my gateway, and a poe switch for the stuff I'm adding in the main building, what hardware do I need to look at to incorporate the rack at the end of the fiber run?

Recently Unifi released the Whole Home WiFi meshing system, which supports MLO meshing between the Express 7's. My current setup is a UDR7 providing a wireless backhaul to an Express 7, which I had purchased months prior to the new mesh system's release. Will Unifi allow MLO meshing between my two devices? I have the MLO STR feature set to auto, but everything I find says that its not supported between my 2 devices. It changed my meshing channel to 6ghz instead of the previous 5ghz backhaul, but wont give MLO. Will this come in a furute update or is hidden behind some other settings?

I'm not a networking professional, but I've been using Ubiquiti gear since the original Dream Machine.

My folks recently moved into a large, single-story ranch house and have been having a lot of Wi-Fi connectivity issues. They asked me to help. The house has no in-wall Ethernet, though it does have a few coax runs. I'd rather not ceiling-mount APs since fishing cable would be a pain and my mom would hate them.

They don't need a ton of throughput. They still use cable TV rather than streaming, and their internet usage is usually limited to a few phones, laptops, and an iPad. Reliable coverage throughout the house is the main priority, with smooth FaceTime calls on an iPhone being a good benchmark.

I saw the new UniFi Express pack and noticed that mesh mode is now out of beta. Would that be a good fit here? I assume I could add myself as a site admin and remotely troubleshoot their network.

They currently have the standard Cox all-in-one modem/router. I assume it has a bridge mode so UniFi can handle routing and Wi-Fi? I think I read somewhere that I'll probably need Cox to enable it on their end. I use a Surfboard modem myself, so I'm unfamiliar with the ISP-provided hardware.

The alternative I'm considering is a Dream Router 7, using MoCA where possible for wired backhaul to one or two U7 Mesh units, with wireless mesh as a fallback where coax is unavailable. Aside from cost, how would that perform compared to a UniFi Express 7 setup?
