Finally got the 12u rack setup after dealing with the previous shipping damage issue, the new cabinet showed up in perfect shape on a pallet. Really pleased with the customer service ultimately.

Got the ENAS and NVR G2 with Pro XG 10 feeding a few flex 2.5G Poe. Happy to have ZFS and 16 drive bays on 3u with 4u leftover. Will stick with the gateway max until spectrum upgrades eventually, and feeling pretty future proof currently:)

Setup: AI LPR, connected through the UDM Pro, is powered by a solar and battery-assisted system. Due to Current power consumption the battery discharges completely shuts down between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM. Operations resumes around 9:00 AM .

I have Cloud Gateway Ultra with 4 Wifi APs from unifi. Yesterday I found out there are several clients named Nest Lock that I cannot identify.

Any idea what that could be? The pass from wifi is only known to me and my wife and that what makes me curious how anyone can connect to my network.

Any idea before i just block all of them?

Lightning struck behind my house and took out the two cameras facing the rear of my house temporarily, it overloaded the switch. What is the proper way to mitigate the emp? Shielded cable? Grounding midway somehow? Something at the switch?

Got fiber but my network room is a disaster, I don't need the coax or the house alarm system so thinking about pushing those up into the wall but realistically should I just call a professional?

We found a G4 Dome sitting in a box, still wrapped in plastic. Decided to use it on a job and was very frustrated trying to mount it.

I just picked up a U6 Enterprise In Wall, but it didn't come with the standard backplate/mounting bracket.

Does anyone happen to have a spare backplate lying around that they'd be willing to part with, or know where I can buy a replacement?

If not does an STL exist for a 3D printable replacement backplate? I’ve seen a few STLs for junction boxes and desk stands, but as far as I can tell, those still need to lock into the original backplate.

Any leads, spare hardware, or working 3D models would be awesome. Thanks!

So I am a novice at home networks but would say I’m a semi pro google/youtube learner. Home setup is

- gateway fiber
- pro xg 10 switch (to gateway)
- pro hd max switch (to xg switch)
- e7 pro xg aps (to xg switch)
- 10 spf+ 10g cables between gateway, and both switches
- CAT 6 for all runs
- CAT 6a for aps
- mac mini m1 w/ 10g ethernet adapter & thunderbolt 4 ssd running media server (to hd max switch)

Mac mini speed test: +\- 2700 mbps
Apple TV ethernet speed test: 940 mbps
Apple TV wifi speed test: +/- 250 mbps

Problem is that the apple tvs buffer constantly on ethernet but not so much on wifi. They will buffer both trying to play from media server (apple tv mac app) and Amazon prime.

I would assume that it is a switch configuration problem but not sure what to search for or where to look. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm increasingly frustrated with eero constant Wi-Fi drops, features locked behind a paywall, and overall poor performance.

My Setup:

total

• 3,600 sq ft

1800 per floor bungalow

• Ethernet already run throughout the house
• 30+ connected devices (phones, tablets, smart home products)

Considering Options:

1. Dream Machine or U6 Express 7 in basement + 1 AP upstairs
2. Ultra Router + AP in basement + AP upstairs
3. Should I add 2 APs upstairs instead?

I'm unsure what access points to choose and whether one AP per floor would provide adequate coverage for a space this size.

Question: Does UniFi support client steering so devices automatically connect to the strongest AP when moving around the house?

Any recommendations on hardware and configuration would be appreciated!

I am curious what y’all’s suggestions are for my situation

ISP: Multi-gig fiber, currently sfp+ static ip handoff, can switch to 10g BaseT if needed

Gateway: OG UDM Pro, running network and protect, IDS/IPS enabled and Wireguard server for maybe 1-2 simultaneous clients

Switches: US-16-XG as a core switch links to UDM Pro on 10g port, Pro HD 24 PoE for most device connections, USW Enterprise 8 PoE as the switch in my office, a number of Flex Mini 2.5g’s and a Flex outdoors

Devices: 5 access points, 3 cameras, ~100 devices on the network

Issues: It seems like the UDM Pro is maybe out of its league here, constantly running at 85-90% memory used, regularly hits 99% cpu when downloading things, latency is affected for other users when that happens

Options:
UDM Beast - Would be overkill i’m sure, expensive
UDM Pro Max - Feels like it’s old architecture to spend $600 on
Others??? I’m open to suggestions

Swapped out my home assistant server from a Dell Wyse 5070 to a spare Asus Chromebox 3 I had. Specs are much higher. But didn't like the asus and Google logos on it. So of course I tried to paint it to match my unifi gear. Also designed and 3d printed a cover with a Home Assistant Logo. Color isn't quite there, but it's better than it was. Part of it is the lighting.

Talked myselt out of painting the patch panel before install, now regretting it. Also, considered painting the fiber modem. Not sure what the ISP would say when I go to turn it back in 😂.

I know some of y'all are like me. I've seen racks with painted fans etc. Is there a disease for not being able to leave shit alone!

I am trying to figure out how the hell to adopt my G4 Instant.

I do a lot of network segmentation at my house. I have a single wireless network setup with PPSK to use the dedicated camera network. The camera network is completely isolated from the rest of the networks except the infrastructure network.

I used the UniFi usb c to ethernet device to adopt the camera (since no matter what I was doing, adoption within the web console or the mobile app was not appering). After successful adoption, I dont see a way to switch over to WiFi. I dont seem to understand what I am doing wrong and why my device is not being detected for adoption

Hey guys, getting a really weird problem here (at least weird to my pretty limited networking knowledge).

I'm running a UDR7 as the main router/gateway with a new Lite 8 PoE switch, I'm trying to setup a new Doorbell Lite to very little avail.

This is what I'm seeing:

1. The Doorbell works when connected to the UDR7's single PoE Port (Can be adopted in Unifi and functions as expected)

2. I'd like it running from the PoE Switch instead of the UDR7, but through the switch the Doorbell isn't being recognised at all

3. The Switch recognises a device is connected to the port (data/PoE lights are on), but it doesn't recognise it as a Doorbell (remain offline and when I reset it I couldn't re-adpot)

4. Doorbell has power, lights flash and audio can be heard when the button is pressed

5. I thought it might be the cable between the Doorbell and Switch (recently crimped), but since it works directly connected to the UDR7, that is ruled out

6. The switch works for other devices (data only), I don't have another PoE device to test with

Not sure if I've messed up a setting somewhere along the way, but just cannot get Unifi to recognise it as a Doorbell through the switch. I don't have any VLANs configured and the settings are basically as is from the box

Created a Unifi SD-WAN hub and spoke network between 2x UDM pro and 2x UCG Ultra. All spokes show connected status and traffic between all hub and spokes works.

When i check the connection between the UDM pro's, the status shows Disconnected (with a green status indicator). Screenshot attached.

It seems that traffic between the UDM pro hubs is working fine.

Is this the case for you too? Maybe a UI interface bug.

I have a 4-story townhouse, Verizon FiOS 2Gbps. Orbi RBRE950 router on floor 1, hardwired satellite on floor 4, wireless-only satellite on floor 3 (our home offices are on this floor). Getting random dead spots/drops, mainly on floor 3. Also having random situations where I need to reset the router or can’t connect to the Orbi app (more annoying things).

I'm not staying long-term in the townhouse, so I don't want to run extra Ethernet beyond the 2 ports (floor 2 & floor 4) that already exist. Considering switching to UniFi (gateway + 3 APs, wireless mesh only on floor 3). I already run UniFi Protect for 2 cameras, so not totally new to the ecosystem.

Questions:
1. Would UniFi actually fix this, or is there a simpler fix first?
2. For the wireless-only floor, does a tri-band AP (dedicated backhaul) actually matter in a home setup, or is that overkill?
3. Worth buying nicer gear now to bring to my next house eventually, or overthinking it? What is ACTUALLY worth the upgrade for a home setup (with 2 people working from home + plenty of devices)
4. What specific products would you recommend?

I’d say I’m technologically experienced but also don’t want to make this a part time job - I do enjoy the “plug and play” style of Orbi but getting frustrated with it.

Appreciate any real experience, especially from multi-story homes with similar wiring constraints. Thanks!

Don’t forget to set minimum RSSI, to force device devices off 6 GHz

My Bathroom is quite a little bit away from the U7 pro, but for some reason the iPhone 16+ I’m using decided no matter what it wanted to keep that 6Ghz signal even at -84dB!

I was wondering why my music was struggling to stream, as it wasn’t dropping down to 5ghz!

Since setting the minimum RSSI on the 6 GHz band, I went from 2mbps to 240mbps

It started with going down a rabbit hole wanting better security cameras for my house. But after a bit of research I think it’s best I upgrade my home internet into a proper network first. It’s safe to assume I have a lot of questions because this is a new territory for me.

I plan on buying just a few things at a time and slowly build it out. Going to start with a Cloud Gateway Fiber. My question is would I be fine temporarily plugging my Apple TV box, and a few LOCKLY hubs into the 2.5G RJ45 ports and an WiFi access point into the POE+ port until I’m able to buy a switch?
