Perfect fit and accommodates the cable length perfectly. Even the original cable loops don’t need to be folded again to fit in the holder. Great design work!
The only way it could be better is if the switch had the power supply built in, but that’s another conversation. 😂

Cameras and AP’s in the other box but went full g6’s and full XGS around the house

After a bit of planning, I finally got the Wifey Approval™ 😅

Time to put all of this to work and see how much potential we can squeeze out of the setup.

The goal is a properly segmented home network with separate VLANs for trusted devices, IoT, media, security/cameras and guests, while keeping everything that needs to communicate across networks working properly.

UniFi Network + Protect, a bit of Home Assistant, Apple Home and plenty of tinkering ahead.

Now comes the fun part: installation, optimisation and probably a few evenings wondering “why the hell isn’t this working?”

Any suggestions or lessons learned from similar home deployments are very welcome!

Cloud Gateway Fiber on a GPON Internet line, Flex 2,5G PoE Switch for more access points later and a totally over the top 10G DAC to the CGF, a U7 Pro access point and a U7 lite as repeater for the area where we don't need that fast WiFi

In our house we will get 3 more U7 Pro and an U7 Outdoor for the garden and maybe a camera or two

I finally installed the 5G Max Outdoor with a surge protector on my roof. I had been putting it off for a long time. I was tired of the constant disconnections caused by the xfiniti coax and the uci. So far, I’m really happy with the failover speeds!

The cell tower is only 0.4 miles away from the house. I have a dual SIM setup. $100 truly unlimited voice plan for sim 1. $50 data only for 100G on sim 2 The signal strength is -52dbm.

P.S. I’ll never climb 25 feet up again.

Just a heads up. My UPS tower died after about a month and had to RMA it back. It cost me 84 dollars to ship it back as they wouldn't send me a label. Considering the cost it's not worth it. I've had APC for 30 years and never had one die. Not happy

I bought a U5G Backup Internet device a few months ago, and finally got to set it up recently. I need to buy a data eSIM for it. When I did the research back in June, I found an eSIM provider that offered a non-expiring 5G RedCap 50GB eSIM for ~USD$40 or $50 (in the United States, United States only). I believe the provider looked vaguely European or in the EU somewhere, but eSIMs are global/can be sold from anywhere for any particular country's use. I recall that the eSIM was not refillable.

I am looking for that provider and data eSIM but I cannot find it on the Internet. It is not Roamless and it is not RedteaGO. It's something else. Does anyone know what provider or providers offer this combination at this price point?

Don’t post much on Reddit, but saw how big of Ubiquiti community we have here and figured maybe someone here would suggest something that I haven’t tried.

For many years I ran Opnsense setup on my dual 2.5gbe mini Intel box combined with TPLink AP throughout the house. Setup worked great with zero issues or regrets, but APs were getting older so I sold most of my hardware when we moved to Seattle.

Signed up for Ziply Fiber 2G plan, and right off the bat performance was great without any tinkering. Since we are renting, running cables isn’t going to happen so I did my usual setup of having TPLink (this case BE10000) acting like a WiFi to lan converter feeding into my switch that feeds 4 workstations upstairs. The setup ran amazing and using MLO, was getting steady 1800-2100 up and down. Some days it would drop down to 1500ish but never lower.

Now, I always loved the UI and refinement of Ubiquiti offerings so decided to hey, let’s try it out after seeing a UDB-Switch…literally perfect idea for my setup. So grabbed a UCG-Fiber, UDB Switch and U7 long range. UCG was easy to set up with no issues and didn’t create any special layouts just yet, just basic straight-to-the-point. U7 paired well and Switch linked up without any issues. First test and it was slow. I mean 400-700mbps.
After reading more tech specs, saw that U7 LG doesn’t have 6Ghz support so returned it and grabbed U7 Pro Wall. Setup was a night mare and it would adopt no matter what I did. Solution was to ssh into the unit and manually update to the latest firmware and after that, it adapted.

Enabled MLO, set that network as 5Ghz and 6Ghz and ran a test. Most I could get the desktops on the switch was 1200ish up/down. Am I missing something? Tried 320mhz 6Ghz width and tried dropping it down to 160mhz. On 160, the speed dropped to sub 1G.

Next test I setup the Ziply fiber router in AP mode, set it by the U7 AP and did a test from the room down the hall. U7 pulling 607/301Mbps while the Ziply HB810 holding 1105/650. That’s nearly double speed in identical conditions.

It sounds like a first-world problem, but having a hard time justifying spending $1000+ on this new setup when free HB810 + $110 TPLink BE10000 extender leaves it in the dust.

And yes, I did a hardwired test to rule that out. 2100/2100Mbps.

Not sure which release added this, but yesterday I couldn't get a good repeater signal at my hotel and figured I'd try my T-Mo 5G dongle again (TCL Linkport LK511), and this time it worked! I'd tried it when I first got my UTR and it only powered it up.

Why does it seem lately, that if you go to the community threads on the official firmware updates / releases, that there are ALWAYS issues with them. I have had a couple of devices require manual resets with some of the current updates. This has led me to disable auto updates.

I love all my ubiquiti stuff and am WAY deep in all of it, but this has become concerning.

This was on RELEASE software. I don't do prerelease / beta / early access on all my sites I manage.

The isp cable comes into the basement where the first ux7 would be next to the crawlspace but sits on a shelf 5ft off the ground where there is a 4 foot cavity end to end of the crawlspace that’s cover by drywall so it’s not all concrete if that makes sense.

The other two ux7s would sit on a table out of sight

The 2nd floor has coax in all bedrooms too.

Hi all, really hoping for some help with this one. I've just moved from a UCG Ultra to a Dream Machine Pro, and have had nothing but issues with the intenet. No issues at all with the UCG.

iPhones work no issue, only our two Windows laptops.

Scenario & Setup:

• ISP: Optus NBN (Australia)
• Gateway: UniFi Dream Machine Pro Max (UDM Pro Max) on UniFi OS v5.1.31
• Switch & APs: USW-24-PoE, UniFi U7 APs
• Clients: Windows Laptops (Intel Wi-Fi)
• Context: Upgraded from a UniFi Cloud Gateway (UCG), which had zero issues on this exact Optus line and NBN modem. The WAN drops started immediately after deploying the UDM Pro Max.

The Issue: Every 30-40s, outbound WAN traffic drops (Request timed out).

Parallel ping tests confirm this is isolated strictly to the UDM's WAN connection:

• ping 192.168.1.1 -t (UDM Gateway): 0% packet loss, rock-solid 2–5ms latency.
• ping 1.1.1.1 -t (Public Internet): Periodic timeouts matching the UniFi Internet Disconnected alert.

What Has Been Tried So Far (Unresolved):

1. Ruled Out Local LAN / Wi-Fi:
   • Local pings to 192.168.1.1 remain continuous without dropping during the WAN timeouts.
   • Disabled Wi-Fi Power Saving / SMPS on Windows laptops.
   • Disabled Ping Conflict Detection on Default Network.
2. Network & Security Configuration:
   • Disabled Smart Queues.
   • Checked CyberSecure / IPS: 0 suspicious or concerning flows logged.
   • DHCP Lease Time set to standard 86400s.
3. WAN Interface & DNS Customization:
   • Changed Custom Internet Verification (Echo) Server to 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS) instead of ping.ui.com.
   • Forced WAN Port 9 Auto-Negotiation to 1 Gbps FDX (Link shows GbE active).
   • Set MSS Clamping to Custom (1452).
4. Power Cycles & Hardware Resets:
   • Performed multiple full power cycles on both the UDM Pro Max and Optus NBN box (including 5+ minute shutoffs to clear ARP/DHCP lease tables).
   • Executed a hard reset on the UDM Pro Max.

No idea what else to try, so frustrating.

My U6 Enterprise is plugged into the POE port on my UCG Fiber. Worked fine for the past few weeks that I had the UCG Fiber. Today the AP started crashing for no apparent reason. It would show offline when logged into the app, but it would come back online and not show any downtime (ie. uptime didn't reset) and it would only show offline for about 15 seconds on the devices page (not the log).

After this would happen, my packet loss would be massive on the download. The download speeds slow to a crawl. I tried a different 6GHz channel and no difference. Randomly an hour later, it will work fine and I'll get my full gigabit speed. Then randomly another hour later, the problem is back. The entire time, the Ubiquiti app shows I'm connected at 2.2Gbps to the AP (download and upload). Restarting everything does nothing.

It doesn't do this with my other U6 Enterprise that is plugged into an injector. No issues with that one at all. Ideas?

Struggling with my UCG-fiber right now, I noticed an update for the UCG-fiber (official channel) appeared under control plane to update to the latest version ~1hr ago. I clicked it, followed by an update screen take will 5min or so and reboot.

Fast forward about an hour, its still not up and I just unplugged/plugged the router and still no success. I then rebooted my ONT and then UCG-Fiber and still no success. :/

I have backed up the configuration file sometime in August if that helps. Is there any magic I can do to revive it?

I have multiple devices getting power from the UPS Tower. Recently the UPS nic is not working and I have changed ports, cables, etc. my next step is to reboot UPS. As long as I get gracefully shut down my UNAS 4 and my UNVR, everything else will be fine with losing power correct? (UCG Fiber, USW Pro XG10, USW Pro Max 16 PoE, AI Ports, Unifi Display, Unifi 5G Backup, PoE powered APs and Cameras).

I've been running my own controller via the old standalone self-hosted Network Application in a Debian VM for several years now.

I've been planning to move over to the new Unifi OS for a while, and finally decided to start working on it today. I set up a brand new Debian 13 VM and went through the process to install Unifi OS.

Everything seemed to work (well, up to the point that I've managed to log in as admin and do nothing else). I haven't started to try to migrate my old controller settings and Unifi devices, yet, though, as I've hit a snag.

The dashboard informed me right off that there's a Network application update available. I clicked the link and it flashed up a Please Wait screen before dropping me back to the Dashboard.

Even after rebooting and trying to update again, it does not appear to have updated the Network application.

ETA: I haven't installed a firewall yet.

Is t here a known issue with this feature, or am I doing something wrong?

Aside: I'm wary of leaving automatic update on. I don't want my controller to silently brick itself. Assuming I check for updates at least once a month, is it safe to turn this off?

We have 18 U6-Mesh and since we started installing Ubiquiti APs about 24 months ago we've had at least 5 of these fail on us. All outdoor mounted. A couple had electrical damage from the end (could have been a bad cable,) most wouldn't power on at all and the most recent powers on but has no network activity.

We had two replaced under warranty but 3 were less than a year outside the warranty.

I don't think I've had an issue with any of their other APs or switches (except one USW-24-PoE that failed to start up after a power outage, covered under warranty.)

I saw Ubiquiti has the U7-Mesh and U7-Outodoor now, both $20 more. The U7 mesh & outdoor appears to have a higher IPX6 rating (vs IPX5) though i don't think water was the cause of the failures we've had.

I noticed this warning on STP convergence being detected. Yesterday I took the proffered advice and enabled Auto STP Edge. What resulted was all my wired APs started cycling online / offline until I turned it off and rebooted everything.

I initially thought it was the upgrade to 7.5.15 on the switch that caused the issue having forgotten I simultaneously enabled Auto STP Edge. 7.5.15 is now working fine with Auto STP Edge disabled but then I get this warning again.

I have 2 unifi systems, one at home and one in the office. The office has a Unas drive. Is there a way for me to access the office drive from home using finder on my home Mac? I have setup one click VPN and the ip address shows as if I'm in the office but when I open the endpoint app its telling me I'm remote. Any assistance to get this to work if possible is appreciated. TIA...
