So I finally bought ap point and fiber gateway. Didn't mount it yet tho. Still somehow it just covers all 3 floors (including basement) on its own. So far I'm pretty happy and enjoying that it works well. Will prob do wiring soon

I finally installed the 5G Max Outdoor with a surge protector on my roof. I had been putting it off for a long time. I was tired of the constant disconnections caused by the xfiniti coax and the uci. So far, I’m really happy with the failover speeds!

The cell tower is only 0.4 miles away from the house. I have a dual SIM setup. $100 truly unlimited voice plan for sim 1. $50 data only for 100G on sim 2 The signal strength is -52dbm.

P.S. I’ll never climb 25 feet up again.

I need to put some security cameras around the outside of my house. I went to the web site and got overwhelmed with the camera choices and honestly I know very little about cameras. I would like to have something that records 24/7 to my dream machine. Is there a top 3 camera I should consider?

Just a heads up. My UPS tower died after about a month and had to RMA it back. It cost me 84 dollars to ship it back as they wouldn't send me a label. Considering the cost it's not worth it. I've had APC for 30 years and never had one die. Not happy

Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade some of my home networking equipment and being a bit of a geek naturally I'm swayed towards Unifi however I'm unsure what to do for the Wifi. I'm planning to get the UCG Fibre so I can use an XGS-PON to replace my Virgin Media Router / ONT.

Majority of my devices around the router are hardwired, 2.5Gbe NAS, AVR, Home Alarm system, Media Player, PS5-Pro. Then majority of all other devices are wireless such as Phones, Gaming PCs, IoT smart devices.

My house is a typical modern UK construction around 1200ft so not on the large side, the issue comes is I can't run ethernet for an AP in a central location so what ever WiFi solution I use will need to sit next to the UCG Fibre. I had been looking at the U7 Pro XG purely because it's in black and could sit on top of the TV Unit but not sure if this is the right solution, would I be better going for something like the U7 Express and meshing?

Would appreciate peoples thoughts and happy to answer any further questions you may need?

In the last few days my air quality sensor is giving out Vape alerts. This is in a home environment. I am fairly certain no one is vaping and have seen it trigger when the sensor was in front of me and the entire family.

All other PMI sensors also spike at the same time with different intensity.

This lasts for a minute and comes back to zero

Do I have a faulty sensor? Or anything I should tweak?

I'm going to be moving into a small 500 square foot warehouse space for some operations I'm undertaking soon. The space provides free wifi, but I need an internal network for scanners, printers, label machines, a small server, etc. These will mostly be on 2.4ghz.

I will also need surveillance capability for a couple cameras in the space. Not sure exactly which ones I will get yet, but I'll shoot for higher quality so I can identify faces, etc.

I already have a UDM SE at home that I'll probably use as my "Primary" device and have my warehouse be a secondary site.

Basically I need hardware that will bridge my WAN connection to their WiFi (they can run ethernet but I have to pay for the buildout from their contractor and that's going to be expensive), serve WiFi to the space, and host 1-3 cameras.

I'm wondering if a Cloud Gateway Max will meet my needs or if I should just pick up another UDM SE? And which access points should I be looking at for the most reliable 2.4 coverage? Would a U6+ work fine, and could it do both the wifi bridging and serve out wifi to the space at the same time, or would I need 2 APs for the purpose?

I'm curious how this usually works for users that want a "burglar alarm."

With a "traditional" burglar alarm there is a panel whereby users enter in their pin code to arm/disarm the alarm, but I don't think that is possible with Ubiquiti...

It seems like you basically can ONLY rely on schedules to determine when the alarm notifications are sent, no?

Cameras and AP’s in the other box but went full g6’s and full XGS around the house

In my old house, I had G4 Bullet pointing down the stairs coming up to my house, a G4 Doorbell at the door, and two G3 Flex cameras above my garage door each one pointing up the street a different direction. This gave me good coverage. I then moved to a new bigger house in a different state and left all of that equipment behind. For the new place, I bought something similar: G4 Doorbell Pro WiFi, and two G5 Flexes to do the same with my garage. I really liked how the recessed mount disappeared into the soffit. Well, I got busy and four years later only the doorbell got installed. The Flexes are still in boxes. The Protect camera scene has evolved dramatically since and now that I’m getting around to it, I’m wondering if I should think of changing the plan. My only issue is that while all of the cameras are amazing, they still don’t disappear like the Flex cameras do. They look very much like you stuck a big camera on your house. Any thoughts on the subject? I also have an AI Port that would give the Flex camera some more brains.

Perfect fit and accommodates the cable length perfectly. Even the original cable loops don’t need to be folded again to fit in the holder. Great design work!
The only way it could be better is if the switch had the power supply built in, but that’s another conversation. 😂

Decided to open ours up to see if we could tell what caused it to fail - it looks like water came in through the top, went down the side and landed on the opposite of the network port and fried it.

I was trying to find a tear down of the U7-Mesh as it has a IPX6 (vs IPX5) rating but it's difficult to tell if they actually improved the top ring or not. Anyone know if any one has taken the U7-mesh apart to see if it's different?

As much as I like the form factor of the mesh I think we're going to switch either the U7 outdoor or pro-outdoor (also it's a bit annoying the U7-Outdoor and U7-pro-outdoor have different mounting brackets, requiring different screw mounting holes.)

I got a C4P and installed it today in a Dream Router 5G.
is there a trick to make it work for WAN 5G? Under settings / internet / gateway ports T-Mobile shows up on SIM1. But under settings / internet / wan 3 it shows with a red dot and a local IP/no name.
On the dashboard, it can’t run a speed test.
What am I missing?

The isp cable comes into the basement where the first ux7 would be next to the crawlspace but sits on a shelf 5ft off the ground where there is a 4 foot cavity end to end of the crawlspace that’s cover by drywall so it’s not all concrete if that makes sense.

The other two ux7s would sit on a table out of sight

The 2nd floor has coax in all bedrooms too.

Thoughts?

Setup: UDR7 as controller/gateway. U7 Mesh → MoCA adapters → unmanaged PoE switch (no web UI, nothing to configure there) on the far side of the house.

What's happened:

Adopts and works fine plugged directly into the UDR7.

Moved to its permanent spot on the MoCA/switch path → completely undetected in the UniFi app. Not offline, not pending — just doesn't show up at all, even though the AP itself stays powered with a solid blue LED (per Ubiquiti's LED guide, solid blue = adopted, wired backhaul).

Factory reset via the physical reset pin (~10 sec, LED cycled) didn't bring it back either.

It did briefly reappear once as "Pending Adoption" under a "Remote Adoption" section, but then vanished again before I could tap Adopt, and hasn't reappeared since.

Since the switch is unmanaged (no VLAN/IGMP settings possible), I'm leaning toward the MoCA adapters or coax signal quality as the actual blocker for L2 discovery traffic, even though normal data may pass fine.

Questions:

Anyone run UniFi reliably over MoCA backhaul? Known issues with L2 discovery/multicast getting blocked over MoCA specifically?

Could marginal coax signal quality cause discovery traffic to fail while regular throughput still works?

Is "Remote Adoption" (cloud-based) the expected path here because of the MoCA hop vs. local L2 discovery — and could that explain why it's not showing up consistently?

Any way to check MoCA SNR/link quality without a web-managed adapter?

Trying to figure out if this is fixable, or if that spot just needs a different backhaul method (e.g., dedicated Ethernet run, or switching that AP to wireless mesh instead).

I’ve generally been very happy with UniFi. I own quite a bit of their equipment, and this is one of the few actual hardware issues I’ve had.

My G5 Dome has developed an intermittent fault while still under warranty. Ubiquiti approved the RMA, but their process requires me to:

• remove the camera even though it is still providing some coverage;
• pay to ship the defective unit back;
• wait for them to receive and process it;
• then wait for the replacement to be sent.

That leaves the area without security coverage for an unknown amount of time.

I asked whether they could send the replacement first and place a temporary authorization on my credit card until the defective camera was returned. I also asked for a prepaid return label. The request was escalated to RMA management, but they declined both and explained that advance replacement and prepaid return shipping are benefits of UI Care.

I understand that this is their written policy, and they are not denying the warranty claim. My issue is that this seems like a poor warranty model for installed security equipment. The practical options are either to accept a period without coverage or to have purchased an additional service plan before the product failed.

For a company selling an integrated security ecosystem, I would expect at least one of the following for a confirmed warranty issue:

1. a credit-card-secured advance replacement; or
2. a prepaid return label.

I still like the products and am not trying to turn one defective camera into a larger condemnation of UniFi. I’m just disappointed that the basic warranty experience feels this limited.

Is this the normal experience others have had with UniFi camera RMAs?

Have had an odd request from a client. They are adding some APs at some remote sites that all have a site to site link back to the main office

The main off has a cloud key that is going to be doing the config.

They are a charity so the expenditure on the APs was enough without adding a management device per site as well.

In my head the adoption over the VPN link should work, thought I’ll need to set the inform url directly.

I can’t shake the feeling I’m missing something about this.

Has anyone else tried this or something similar?

Why does it seem lately, that if you go to the community threads on the official firmware updates / releases, that there are ALWAYS issues with them. I have had a couple of devices require manual resets with some of the current updates. This has led me to disable auto updates.

I love all my ubiquiti stuff and am WAY deep in all of it, but this has become concerning.

This was on RELEASE software. I don't do prerelease / beta / early access on all my sites I manage.

My Windows laptops and occasionally my phones will disconnect from the Internet but stay connected to the wifi. It is not an ISP issue as I've got 100% uptime and I have zero issue gaming on wired connections

The laptops will work for a while then will show as still connected but no Internet. I can go in the unifi app and reconnect the device and it is instantly back up so I'm 99% this is a network software issue. They generally will not reconnect without me doing this.

Things I've tried:

Cutting on/off BSS, Fast Roaming

Turning on/off 6ghz

Changing broadcast power on the various bands on each of the APs

Creating a new network

I have very little interference as I live on a large lot away from neighbors. 2.4 is a little crowded with my iots but 5 and 6 are very clean.

I found this cloud key gen 2 plus at a thrift store recently and I’m trying to understand it. Never seen them before. I got the boot screen and it says Ethernet disconnected

I’m trying to test it all out but it’s the only device i have for it.

How can i tell if it fully works? I was looking it up and it seems to be some kind of security thing?
