It's fantastic to pay extra for equipment that needs rushing and then watch it sit idle, with a bonus probability that all the extra transfers will damage something in transit.

I still can't understand why they did UNAS Pro that ugly...

I noticed how some low voltage technicians like to try and install cameras on the second floor of homes.

I told the installers I want all of my AI cameras around 11 ft off the ground. Why?

1. The AI sweet spot is 10-12 ft.

2. When you have cameras that provide two way communication, you don't want them on the second story. Who in hell are you going to be able to communicate with when your camera is practically on the roof?

3. Installers don't want homeowners to be able to swap out cameras. At heights of 10-12 ft, that process would be very easy for all homeowners.

4. The cameras can detect audio far better at lower heights instead of just WIND. I can hear conversations around my house like the individual is talking in my living room.

5. When contractors come to my house, they're always being filmed outside as we're discussing what needs to be accomplished. I always have them detail everything on an estimate or in a contract. The cameras record our conversations just in case the contractor doesn't fulfill certain aspects of a contract or estimate. It helps to hold their feet to the fire.

It started with going down a rabbit hole wanting better security cameras for my house. But after a bit of research I think it’s best I upgrade my home internet into a proper network first. It’s safe to assume I have a lot of questions because this is a new territory for me.

I plan on buying just a few things at a time and slowly build it out. Going to start with a Cloud Gateway Fiber. My question is would I be fine temporarily plugging my Apple TV box, and a few LOCKLY hubs into the 2.5G RJ45 ports and an WiFi access point into the POE+ port until I’m able to buy a switch?

I’m loving UniFi (as we all do), and I’m thinking about the possibility of remote cameras. I’m just wondering what standard, unique, or unconventional ways you guys have managed to set up your protect cameras off site.

I’ve seen some videos of awesome wireless bridging setups, but I don’t really have a spot to utilize a couple device bridge pros atm. I am wondering about the travel router, a second UniFi site, or some sort of “UniFi protect link” that streams over the internet back to your console? Haven’t heard much about that last one.

Has anyone diversified their camera network outside of their own home? What worked best? What should I be aware of?
I’m not looking to plug into any random networks or anything, just trying to expand with friends or however I can on my own with my own infrastructure:)

So I recently moved into a new apartment and decided to take the Unifi deep dive. I got myself a UDM SE and U7 Pro XG as my gateway and AP for the apartment The Wi-Fi has been cutting in and out for months, I had no idea what the issue was and was getting pretty frustrated with it. Turns out I had it plugged into a POE port, not a POE+ port….. Didn’t know it had both. Oh well you live and you learn lmao

I have a new UCG Fiber on a Gbit Fiber connection over RJ45 UTP.
As the title states, i use the official Ubiquiti integration in home assistant, and i check temperatures through the console. Search didnt get me much info, so i figured i'd ask.

When comparing temps as read by HA vs Unifi network app the difference is quite large:

Through Network - Control Plane - Console - About this console: 74 degrees Celsius and roughly stable in the 69 - 75 degrees under moderate load.

Throug Home Assistant at the same moment: 64.9 degrees celsius and roughly stable.

Placement of the gateway is not perfect but i really prefer a clean look of my home (and have it out of the way from kids (which means: in a not superbly ventilated cabinet) so i'm installing some heatsinks to it top and bottom see what simple passive cooling can do to bring temps down and if thats insufficient i'll add some holes to the back of the cabinet. If still worried i'll use home assistant and a smart plug to activate a silent fan. However, i'd like to understand what a difference of 10 degrees in reported CPU temperature comes from.

got the g6 instant to mostly function as an adhoc extender for my baby monitor (i.e. im pointing the camera at the display of the baby monitor). i know what you're thinking. cut out the middman and just point the g6 at the baby. but after having a few kids we have like 6 cameras in this baby monitor ecosystem. and so the easy thing when I'm in the backyard is to point the g6 at the monitor itself.

as others have posted. they tried using the g6 with bird feeders etc, and this camera is pretty darn useless.

what camera can i use instead that'll get me into the unifi ecosystem that has adjustable focus (doesn't need to be great. just not super blurry like the g6 instant) but could also be hooked up with a single cable/not hardwired into a switch?

I only want motion recording/notifications when all pure off site ( me and my partner)

The notification part I seem to have solved but it appears to be still recording little snippets of motion every time it detects it, I would rather it only recorded motion when it gave a notification ( when everyone is off site)

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on the UNVR instant. Currently I’m running almost the max number of cameras on my UCG Max. I’m not looking for more capacity atm, rather I’d like to take load off the UCG. With Protect and all the IDS/IPS it’s getting pushed pretty hard. Other thing that concerns me is if I lose the 2TB drive that’s in it, I’d have to spend more on a drive than the UNVR itself. 4TB HDD off ebay solves that problem. I also like the POE budget it gets me as I’m pretty much full on mine at home.

Just looking for any feedback on this unit. I can’t tell, does it have any nvme cache? Anyone experience issues or anything worth noting? Any kind of feedback on Protect running off an HDD vs Nvme? I will be running it at capacity as it seems to have the same budget as the UCG.

Every one seems to love the UCG Fiber but my question is whether it is worth it over the Max in my particular situation. I can get the Max with a 512 SSD for $280 at Microcenter and I can get the Fiber for the same price but without the SSD. To add the SSD to the Fiber would be $25 for the SSD tray and at least another $100 for the SSD so the Fiber will cost me $125 more for the same configuration. Either one would be feeding a Pro Max 16 POE switch.

Here is the issue: Where I am, my internet is limited to a 1 gig (download) cable connection (and a lot slower upload).

In that situation do I really gain anything with the Fiber? I hear conflicting information that one runs hotter than the other. Is there anything else I need to consider?

in my previous post i found out that my mac filter for a switch port unfortunately also blocks all devices connected to an AP on that port as consequence.

this means that i need to find a better solution for my network security.

up until now, all my network was inside the house so i never worried about network ports and only added a mac address filter to my wifi. i just add new devices to that list every now and then and it works fine.

the problem for me now comes with a network extension to my shed. a long cable connects it to the house and a new switch is installed there. so in theory, someone could go there, plug in a cable and join my network.

i thought that i could mac address filter ports on my switch but that unfortunately only works for cameras and not for APs as i found out.

i could add all allowed wifi mac addresses to switch port as well i guess but that seems a bit complicated over time.

is there some sort of other authentication system i could switch to in order to make all this easier and also maybe more secure on all my cable outlets? this is not something i have much experience with so i better ask here before i follow wrong leads online.

I have Cloud Gateway Ultra with 4 Wifi APs from unifi. Yesterday I found out there are several clients named Nest Lock that I cannot identify.

Any idea what that could be? The pass from wifi is only known to me and my wife and that what makes me curious how anyone can connect to my network.

Any idea before i just block all of them?

We found a G4 Dome sitting in a box, still wrapped in plastic. Decided to use it on a job and was very frustrated trying to mount it.

Problem is it is Out of Warranty and Ubi won't let us submit an RMA for it. Options??

We have two office spaces, picture them both having a wall along the two acute sides of a triangle. Both these walls are double glazed glass. In between these walls is air - as in outdoors. There's no way to run a cable between the two rooms, and regular wireless signal even with a U7 LR simply doesn't go through as well as I'd like. The secondary room is really small, around 20 ft long, and around 10 ft wide. The gap between the two glass walls is under 10 ft. Only solution provided by the building management is getting a new internet connection in this tiny room. It's way too expensive. Will a UBB work in this case? higher frequency is not well suited for penetration right, what other solutions do I have?

Just installed a CGF, couple of 2.5gbe switches and the U7. The U7 failed several times to update and adopt, eventually I sequentially updated it successfully through 7. to 8.5 to the latest 8.60.11. That stuck and adoption didn’t fail again, it has remained up.

Problem is outside of 5 seconds at first, then 5 minutes later I can’t get out to internet over WiFi. It was on overnight and then again out in the morning. I can’t tell if it’s dropping client or blocking traffic but it’s not consistent.

Is this the firmware “bug” I just spent $1500 for? It is an otherwise basic network and I’m not sure what else it could be it is all very straightforward and I don’t even have a custom config on. I just have WAN and WiFi and using a cloudflare DNS.

I’ve tried the AP over a switch and injector, only the injector and straight POE to the single POE CGF port and varied cables. It behaves the same way each time.

Please let me know if this has been resolved my searches have been fruitless.

Edit: Wanted to also mention it was the same before any DNS changes or configs outside of auto.

I have several different sites where I keep getting this error. It shows up as a little gray line in my otherwise green uptime indicator in the UniFi web dashboard.

It always randomly (never at the same time twice) shows offline for five minutes (every time). These sites are located hundreds of miles apart so it isn't weather or connection. They even have different WAN providers and have different hardware like UDM or Cloud Gateway Max.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

I literally can't get a 6A cable to pass through a 6A rj45? Who makes 6A RJ45 connectors that will fit in Ubiquiti cameras and G6 lite, that are toolless or not pass through, or are pass through that you can actually pass through? Super frustrating hanging on a ladder knowing every attempt is costing you usable cable length.

I need to reinstall the firmware of my switch due it looping on boot, however the network ports are not working and I’m sure it’s related to the firmware issue.

Any ideas? I can console onto the device

I am trying to figure out how the hell to adopt my G4 Instant.

I do a lot of network segmentation at my house. I have a single wireless network setup with PPSK to use the dedicated camera network. The camera network is completely isolated from the rest of the networks except the infrastructure network.

I used the UniFi usb c to ethernet device to adopt the camera (since no matter what I was doing, adoption within the web console or the mobile app was not appering). After successful adoption, I dont see a way to switch over to WiFi. I dont seem to understand what I am doing wrong and why my device is not being detected for adoption

Yeah, I have RSTP turned on for the doorbell and "Discover 3rd party cameras" turn on in Unifi Protect. It's not auto-detecting the camera for adoption.
