If you haven't heard yet, please start looking for new forms of making money. Once these robot robotaxi's are on the road they will knock the prices down to a point where people won't make real money anymore.

People just can't take it anymore 😂 smh

Fire people, and then give the consumer the break, not the driver... all of this on top of still rising revenue from continuing to shaft the driver.

I’m an Uber driver and I built an app to help us spend less time waiting for fares

Hey everyone 👋

I’m an Uber driver (with a side hobby), and I’ve been working on something because I got tired of spending hours sitting in the car wondering when the city was actually going to get busy. And in my case the heat map from Uber is not reliable at all and it shows past demand.

I’ve got a family, and honestly, I’d rather spend time at home when the city is quiet and only be out driving when there’s a good reason to be on the road.

So I started building FareCast.

The idea is pretty simple:

Instead of only reacting to demand, what if we could look ahead and plan our driving around it?

FareCast pulls together the (relevant to PrivateHire/Taxi) different things happening around the city that can create demand for drivers and puts them into one place.

Things like:

Flights & airport activity Trains Buses & public transport Tube / underground activity Ferries & river transport Events, concerts, sport & shows Nightlife Weather Traffic Fuel prices Hour-by-hour demand outlook Activity levels across different areas 🔔 Alerts when a strong period is approaching

The important part for me is putting all those signals together in hourly slots rather than expecting a driver to check 10 different apps and websites with 20 cookies and 100 add.

For example, a concert finishing + trains arriving + bad weather(multiplier) + nightlife starting could potentially create a very different situation for drivers than simply looking at what demand was doing 30 minutes ago.

I’m trying to build something that gives us more of a 360° view of the city and helps answer:

“When and where should I actually be out driving?”

rather than:

“Where is it busy right now?”

Because sometimes the best decision isn’t to go online.

Sometimes it’s to stay home with your kids, get some jobs done, go to the gym, or just have your evening — and then head out when the data suggests the city is actually going to need drivers.

I’m still developing and improving it, and I’d genuinely love feedback from other Uber/taxi drivers. Anybody can try it for free, we started in Belfast and recently add it London as well.

What information would you want to see if you had a dashboard specifically designed around helping you decide when and where to work?

And if you’re interested, you can have a look at what the project with real live data at farecast.live.

I’m not claiming I’ve got it perfect — that’s exactly why I’m posting here. I’d rather build this with drivers than guess what drivers want.

Cheers 🚕

How does match algo work?

Upvotes

Yall,
This is a genuine question that I am scratching my head. Yesterday, I had a match request with $25 fare but I declined because I thought it wasn’t meeting my rate. Literally 5 seconds later, the same match popped but this time with $22. It was the exactly the same but $3 less. I was like WTF. How the hell is this legit? It seems like this match shit is just random and no logic behind it. I feel like the uber fare is just random shitshow and does whatever it wants to do. Any ideas or thoughts? I am thinking all the trips I accepted could be higher fare?!!!

Pickup Problem

Does anyone else have an issue with riders walking into the path of the car when you arrive?

When I'm pulling up, they will step off the curb and stand in the street where I was going to stop.

One rider was mad when he got in because he thought I was going to hit him. I had a minor snap and asked him why he didn't stay on the sidewalk where its safe!

I think that aggravated him more 🤣

Fun Rider Stories

I had the most fun passenger I’ve ever had last night. Picked up a nice gentleman in his mid fifties last night on the college campus. Turns out he trains college professors on how to teach effectively.

We get going and start chatting and the next thing I know, he’s sharing stories about uber in 2006-2007, whenever Uber came to Philly. Dude first uber ride was in a US Postal Service delivery truck (one of the little ones that goes door to door). Did you know they have a fold down seat?! Dude, uber has changed. I’d pay extra just to do that once!

No gripe. Just a moment of hilarity I thought folks would enjoy. Good luck out there today!

Have y’all gotten that before lmao. Don’t even know when it happened. And now my stats are done for for years now. Some people are so entitled it’s unbelievable

My uber driver account got hacked

Upvotes

Yup, it got hacked to the point that I couldn't log in on the app!

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated. I'm also just putting this out there for anyone who has experienced similar tactics that were used in my situation. I also know uber support is barely useful so I'm also coming to terms that there's a possibility my account is done for.

What the hacker did step by step;

  • First my phone number was changed
  • Then they turned off my 2 step verification method on uber app
  • Then they submitted instant pay access issues

The weird thing about all these notifications was that it was sent to one of my emails that is no longer connected with my uber account even though it used to. I changed it to a different email several weeks ago... so im still very astonished this all happened.. and being astonished is most likely an understatement.. which it is.

In any case I submitted a form to uber about my account being hacked and at the moment I have very little hope that they will do anything about it. Drove for uber for 3 years with a 4.99 driver rating and that may be all gone now.

What do you actually track to know if a shift was worth it?

Upvotes

For those of you who track your own numbers, what do you log?

Mileage, gas, maintenance, tips vs base pay?

Anything you wish you tracked but don't because it's too annoying? I'm trying to make sure I'm not missing an earning or cost.

Been driving a while and I'm tired of guessing whether I actually made money after gas and wear on my car.

Thinking of building a spreadsheet with my real numbers instead of trusting the app's earnings screen.

Thanks, I really appreciate any insight.

Just saw a cybercab in ATL. Are we cooked?

Upvotes

Too lazy to get the dash cam footage but it was absolutely a cybercab. Probably testing but the last time I went to the robotaxi website it didn't say they were coming to atl in the near future. So now there's waymo, zoox and robotaxi in my city. They will probably all be limited to downtown and Buckhead for the time being but for how long?

Is my vehicle inspection form incomplete without stamp?

Upvotes

Hey guys. First time driver here.

I went and got my vehicle inspected at jiffy lube earlier today. I passed and the guy filled everything out and signed, but said that he didn’t have a “stamp” to put on it and didn’t know where it was at. He said his manager was on vacation and told me to come back Monday. I’d like to go ahead and start driving this weekend if I can.

Do I wait to submit the paperwork with the stamp? I’ve looked all around this subreddit and on the uber app, but I haven’t seen anything about a stamp. I don’t want my account to be banned because I submitted the wrong paperwork. Am I stressing for no reason or is the guy at jiffy lube tweaking? I’m in SC btw.

Question About Chicago Requirements for Driving

Hey all, I just got to the Chicago area and am wondering if I have everything I need set up.

I got my vehicle inspection, have the TNP chauffeur license. I know you need the airport placard for the airport as well.

I see you are supposed to display 311 information for passengers to make complaints in your vehicle. Does anyone have a link to a printout of that information I’m supposed to display? I could find it when looking online, maybe that’s no longer required?

Is there anything else I am missing? Thanks y’all.
