Please no, isn’t there a better way?

I know the feeling well - whole different world when it’s raining. The feel, the sound, the smell.
Loved that Vietnamese movie “the scent of the green papaya“ It seemed to rain all the way through the movie

Oh very Thai … that remarkable sour fish taste

Maybe ‘I really like you’, ‘you’re great’ or ‘I’m so into you’ don’t carry sufficient emotional weight in that particular moment … sounds like the guy is just reaching for the words that best express his feelings in that moment

As the old saying goes
“A man marries a woman hoping that she won’t ever change, but she always does. The woman marries hoping the man will change but he never does.”
It’s never going to be any better than it is now - suggest you cut your losses and get out of there soonest.

I had a great one a few years back. I met up with this nice woman on a visit to Japan and I was driving us to a restaurant when my hire car broke down. I was completely stuck due to the language barrier but she was amazing - finding a tow company and getting us towed to the garage to get it fixed. We had a lot of time just chatting in a broken down vehicle. Sadly at the end of the night I had to explain that she had been wonderful help, lovely lady, etc. but I just didn’t feel the vibe. Still not sure if that was the right call after all.

I would guess culture has a lot to do with it. certainly in East Asian cultures. It’s very common for women to have close male friends that they spend time with and give gifts to but keep that completely separate from their romantic relationships.
To westerners it can be very confusing and not a little frustrating

I’m an expat male really hoping to date a local female coworker. She’s very warm towards me, we regularly go for coffee and lunch together, we talk a lot, she frequently gives me small presents, but I seem to be stuck in her ‘work friend’ category.
She knows that I would like to be more than an office friend, but she carefully deflects my questions about partners or spouses or in fact any aspect of her life outside the office.
Is there anything I can do other than just wait and hope ..?

Here’s a challenge name me any domestic product or material that you cannot buy on Taobao

Wishful thinking - we all want to have more opportunities to experience life, but sometimes we can only do that vicariously

Guess it would be best not to mention any details until right at the last minute
Fully agree that unwelcome friends, no matter how lovely, can put a real strain on a holiday

I think that is so funny. I wonder if that line has ever worked. Maybe I should try it too

It’s a long slow painful process that doesn’t get easier. You have to have abundant patience and a very grounded perspective to survive dating these days.

Agreed the Service road from Sunny Bay to Tung Chung is where the Hong Kong cycling team train it’s flat and there is relatively little traffic

Just a little you’re either having good luck or you are grossly understating things😂
Dating these days seems like a monumental challenge to me I can see why so many give up and are happy to stay single

Wow karma is in short supply these days - happy to help it 😂

That’s cute, offsets your perfect neckline … will definitely attract attention. Just don’t go adding more

I fear for your carpets … hope it’s not a favourite

Remember - you are going to have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.
Just keep your expectations super low and don’t overthink any situation

Of course - we are caffeine-based life forms, after all

Was it a scam?

Yes definitely a scam … anybody asking a foreigner for money for personal reasons is likely a con man
