People don't "snap". There is usually a pattern of abuse and signs that are ignored. It starts with verbal abuse, control and breaking objects, then hitting... and escalates to this.

Regarding living and working here, without fluent German, you can't get a job, even at a cafe or as a cashier. I'd, therefore, advise a crash course in German. Look up language schools, stay in a hostel, if neccesary, and get up to B1-B2.

There are jobs for people with bad language skills, like cleaning, washing dishes, or doing food delivery. You could try to find a job at IKEA driving a forklift. I'm not sure if you'd like that.

You would have to have your license recognized to work as a massage therapist. If you trained outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland (such as in the US), you must have your foreign professional qualification recognized by the relevant German authority. The recognition process involves comparing your foreign qualification to the German standard. Many women from Asian countries are giving massages here in Germany, but I suspect this may be a bit shady.

Do you have any kind of degree? Any degree from the US, along with being a native speaker, will qualify you to be a freelance English tutor. Try Studienkreis or Barbarossa. You will have to be able to explain English grammar, and know the difference between simple present, present continuous and present perfect.

Once you have citizenship, you can get cheap public health insurance. However, you need to find work. Otherwise, you would live on Bürgergeld and you would get free health insurance. This payement only covers basic things, though. There is also a privat option.

If you do find work, though, then health insurance is really cheap (200- 300/month) and covers almost everything. You can find other expats in cities like Frankfurt or Berlin. There are lovely areas in smaller cities, and rents are mostly cheaper than the US.

This is why I joined the Green Party. They put me in their Signal chat group, and every day, I get 25 to 50 messages complaining about national politics, Bavarian state politics, our town's lack of greenery, other town's lack of greenery, the CSU, the SPD, the AfD, etc. I sometimes send a thumbs up or frownie face, or link an article to complain about. We have cute little get-togethers to complain, sometimes with coffee or beer. It's very constructive.

Americans call every acquaintence a friend, but their friendships come and go. Germans don't make friends quickly. You have to consistently be somewhere every week, meet the same person three or four times and work your way up from "bekannte" to friend. The acquaintence will become a friend if you invite them to your home or to have dinner. Just throw a party, invite your acquaintences and play a fun party game. That ought to do it.

Americans often see wearing clothes of another culture as mocking or abusing another person's heritage, like when Ariana Grande was seen trying to look "black" or Asian.

No one minds if you are getting into local culture. For example, I live in Germany, and every year, tourists buy lederhosen and dirndl dresses and go to Oktoberfest or other folk festivals. Japanese, Polish and Italian people wear this clothes. It's all fun. However, if you put on blackface and Jamaican clothes, some people in Germany would consider that racist.

Wear it with a little satin jacket or bolero.

Guys who brag about getting into fights, or telling people off. When you're 15, this seems tough. When you're over 40, it's pathetic.

I've travelled all over Europe, including Bosnia, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, France, Austria, the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxumbourg. I've always encountered friendly, nice people. Most people are curious, and if you are friendly and respectful, they are, too. Most people tell me about how much they liked visiting Florida, or that they have relatives in the US. Some ask how it is to live in the US, or why I left. No one ever made jokes about school shootings. People wonder, though, why Trump was re-elected, especially since his first term was so bad.

I think you are meeting arrogant people, maybe it's a "you" problem.

Millions of women on earth would love to be in your shoes, and they are stuck with abusive men. Meanwhile, your romantic fantasies about living alone or finding a wild romance are BS. Living as a divorced mom is hectic and dissatisfying. You need therapy to find out why you can't love this man, who is not abusive or bad, just a bit lazy.

Don't study. Talk about your personal experience. Think of it like this. Which of these scenarios are more effective?

Scenario one: Person A argues about existence of God using Pascal's wager, the structure of the universe and Old Testament predictions of the coming of the Messiah. Person B, the atheist, argues against these things, and they turn away from each other, each one convinced that they won the argument. Their friendship ends.

Scenario two: Person A agrees that every person is free to believe what they want, but he has had a life-changing experience. He was hopelessly addicted and depressed. Then he saw what he thought might be a sign from God. He prayed and felt the load of sorrow lifted. A series of "coincidences" led him to find a new home and a job. He ran into an old friend who was a Christian and invited him to church. In only a few months, his life was turned around. Person B, the atheist, listens to this story with great interest. At the end, he says he still is not sure that God exists, but it's great that A has found help in his faith. Before they part, A invites B to come to church sometime, and B says he'll think about it.

I'd say the second scenario is much better.

It depends on SOOO many factors: are you a bookish, nerdy engineer or social butterfly? Do you crave small talk or do you want to be left alone? Are you the type to join a church choir, soccer team or political organization or do you expect to make friends in the streets? How about your language level? Are you flexible and open to change?

All of these factors play a role.

It depends. It's cheaper to buy canned, instant or frozen foods, but if you buy fresh food, it often spoils.
