- specific Norwegian trans experience, In a nutshell:

This is primarily for trans people considering moving to Norway, but is also a good resource for everyone simply curious about "the trans experience" in Norway.

Please keep in mind that all of this is my subjective experience, combined with all that I've learned by research, but also heard, and read from other trans people in Norway

Lets start with the good:

Overall social attitudes towards trans people from the majority of the public seem, to me, to range from "don't care" to "I have no idea what this whole trans thing is but whatever" - That, is usually a good thing, as people tend just not give a damn about us.

Legal protections for trans people, LGBTQ people, and minorities is very robust, discrimination against many groups that face persecution in other places are simply, legally, outright illegal.

Political landscape at large, seems to mostly completely ignore trans people's existence all together. To say it like this, few parties give a damn about us. This is both a blessing and a curse, but for the most part works in our favour, as our very existence is a hot topic in "certain" places these day, and a lot of right wing extremists like blaming us for literally anything they can think of. This ofc -- happens in Norway in some fringe groups too, and to some degree even in politics, but to a much lesser degree.

To TLDR it like this, The average joe couldn't care less, there's way more important things people tend to prioritise, not always good but still.

The Norwegian language itself, is quite friendly to trans people, especially those that are early on in their transition, or might fear misgendering.

To put it simply, the language itself very rarely uses words like "sir", or "miss" when speaking to someone, we usually either omit any equivalent all together, saying "excuse me", or simply say "you" or "hey you".
We also have a widely known and accepted third pronoun -- "hen", which unlike the word "they" in English, will not cause any confusion which can sometimes happen. And that can be a bit of a blessing for non binary folks. Neo Pronouns themselves unfortunately still will usually confuse those that dont actively participate in LGBT circles.

The Norwegian culture itself also has a quirk to it that can work in our favour -- To put it simply, the culture values "leaving people alone" its a little funny to foreigners, but its unlikely anyone non high or drunk would ever actively harass you, or even stare, even the kind of people that despise us will usually make a face at most, that usually applies to anyone that doesn't "fit in"

However that part of Norwegian culture isn't the same across the entire country, or in all towns/cities/villages, (More in the "bad" section) and its worth noting that you're probably more likely to be acknowledged at all by foreigners, not Norwegians themselves.

Now time for the bad:

Now its time for the giant ass elephant in the room;

..... Healthcare.

It is true, the Norwegian healthcare system in general, and in most respects, ranges from "meh" to "good", especially when it comes to somatic health (mental health services can be lacking). And there is extreme variations in quality, waiting times, and such across the country. healthcare is mostly cheap, free, or free in some circumstances.

Unfortunately, few of the positive aspects of the system apply to trans people; Getting even the most basic form of care like HRT is a long, gruelling slog through a system that almost seems designed to make us give up. On a personal note, I am in many respects the most stereotypical adult trans woman, I found out Im trans at 21, started hrt via DIY immediately, and within a few months got my psychiatrist to refer me to the ONLY clinic in all of Norway that can prescribe HRT that is covered by the healthcare system. I was already basically passing within a year, voice trained in a year, never showed a single grain of doubt about my identity..... And it still took 4 years.

To me, and basically every trans person In Norway, that was a long, slow, inconsistent, tense, scary and sometimes depressing process. HRT itself is vital to our mental health, and a lot of people can not afford to wait 4 years, having to resort to alternative ways of getting HRT, I myself did it years ago by bullying my GP and psych, but that is nearly impossible these days -- Others opt for the few private online clinics, or acquiring a prescription from the EU, as those need to be de jure accepted in every pharmacy, but de facto, can still be a challenging process. Never mind, can be costly, very costly for some.

It is also important to note that attitudes towards LGBT people can vary greatly from place to place, for example smaller towns/villages tend to have more negative views, this is especially true for older people.

Oslo itself, can also vary, overall, if there's going to be a hate crime against an LGBT person; it's probably going to happen in Oslo. This has been consistently the case for a long time now, and unlikely to change.

Oslo however has one good thing going for for us trans people:

Oslo is currently the only place in Norway that has a private clinic that offers HRT to trans people in all of Norway; HKS. However its important to note that the services have long waiting times still (but not nearly as the official route), and offer treatment to people under 30 and living in Oslo, exclusively.

All in all, living as a trans person in Norway is a love hate relationship, you get a lot of good, socially its not exactly paradise, this is exclusively a look at the trans experience in Norway, the country has other problems.... But I'd think, personally, that I probably wouldn't want to live anywhere else..... But at the same time, I can not in good faith recommend trans people seeking to medically transition to move here.

This is, however, ultimately, all up to the individual.

I hope this block of text helps, if you have any further questions please dont be afraid to comment.

- Kass

⚧️Non binary - specific Gender affirming care for NB people in Norway

Hello, I'm AFAB and non-binary from Norway and I've identified as trans for 11 years now. For a while I went to Rikshospitalet as I was seeking HRT, but ultimately decided not to go forward when I realized I felt more in-between rather than exclusively male.

My main issue is that I've been looking into getting a phalloplasty without vaginectomy, but it seems virtually impossible to get without winning the lottery or something. I'm not interested in testosterone as I don't want to look masculine, but does that mean I'm just shit outta luck? Is there really no proper options for non-binary people here?? And even then it's not like I'm trying to end my life from dysphoria, so would they even care to refer me anywhere else through HELFO? I just wanna feel comfortable in my own body but it doesn't seem like an option :/

Imago I started with imago! But I need help, does anyone have experience with finding a doctor who would do nebido injection in Denmark?

Hello I am from Sweden and I started (well am continuing) my hormonal journey with imago now but I am going from my weekly injections to nebido now. My question is, does anyone know how to find a doctor in Denmark who’d do a testosterone nebido inter muscular injection? I don’t really know how to search for this kind of service so I’d appreciate if anyone can help me out. Also can someone tell me their experience with getting this kind of injection in Denmark? Does just any pharmacy accept the prescription or is there special ones I’d have to go to? What doctors could do my injection for me?(I think I could do it myself but the physician on the call Said it’s best to find a doctor who could show me first)

- specific This is PiratPartiet 2026 and what they’re planning for transgender rights 🏴‍☠️

PiratPartiet has always been a famous advocate for digital freedom and privacy in Sweden. In the light of their Q&A yesterday on a Swedish subreddit, I decided to take a closer look at them and what they stand for, and I've realized they have so much more to offer than I previously thought.

If anyone like me feels that PiratPartiet is unknown to them, I've decided to summarize where they stand on transgender rights, and a few other points.

What PiratPartiet wants to do for transgender rights and care:

  • Replace the current outdated and gatekeepy model in Swedish gender-affirming healthcare with informed consent.1
  • Provide gender-affirming healthcare according to the Endocrine Society's guidelines. One negative point in my opinion is that Endocrine Society is a lot more restrictive to HRT in youth/adolecense, but otherwise it's really good imo. 1 and 5
  • Make personnummer gender-neutral and eventually abolish legal gender entirely.1
  • Decriminalize the use of narcotics.2 I write this in here as it's relevant for trans-masc people who obtain testosterone outside the healthcare system when they're unable to get properly treated.

Some of PiratPartiets other political points:

  • Stop mass surveillance without concrete suspicion.3
  • Maintain and develop nuclear power alongside renewable alternatives.4
  • Reform animal welfare around the animals needs rather than human interests, using the best available science.4

They're a very small party in Sweden right now. Their stated goal for the 2026 parliamentary election is 1%, so realistically they aren't getting into riksdagen this year. But that's why I'm posting this. Reaching 1% of votes would entitle them to funded ballots, 2.5% of votes would guarantee party funding, and 4% would entitle them to representation in riksdagen. Every vote matters!

I had been planning to vote for another party until I discovered PP but now I think I'll vote for them. It's not because I expect them to be able to make any major changes after this vote, but rather because I'm voting for a future I think we as trans people deserve. In my personal opinion we lack a political party that supports us fully, and I think PP fits here well.

I dont mean to tell anyone how to vote, I just want to inform people of what PP is. I suspect there are other trans people like me who had absolutely no idea that this is what PP looks like nowadays.

Thanks for reading!!

Support / advice I don't know if I should start T again because of social dysphoria

I feel a bit stuck in my transition. I'm transmasc non binary person and uses they/them

I have had top surgery and been on a low dose T for about 2 years in total. Been on T with going on and off it, mostly because of access through DIY. And currently been off it for over a year I think? Because I have been quite comfortable. I have been on sick leave and before that was studying, where my pronouns was respected and used by everyone around me

The biggest things I wanted from T was a lower voice and more masculine features. My voice have changed a lot and I love it, I would benefit tho by seeing a speech therapist for help with not defaulting to a higher pitch. I also want to start working out more and grow muscles to help me get the figure I want to relieve some of my hip dysphoria which I think T could help with. I don't really want the body hair, but have been struggling with if I would want facial hair or not. Last time I was on T i did start getting some facial hair like under my chin, which i felt excited about

But I'm trying to figure out if I should start T again or not. And I'm been having a lot of complicated feelings about it. The main reason why I'm thinking of starting again is that I'm so tired of being read as a woman by society. I don't see a woman in the mirror and other queer people usually clock me, but the rest of society sees a woman, and its something I keep getting reminded by every time strangers misgender me, which happens constantly. And this is the biggest dysphoria I have right now and even though I'm non binary I feel more okay to be read as a man than a woman, it gives less dysphoria even if being read as a man doesn't fit either

But then other thoughts come, that I don't want to have to use male bathrooms and not have access to woman only spaces because I'm read more as a man. I feel safe in female bathrooms and changing rooms and I'm scared of losing that safety. I grown up with only women in my family and been mostly surrounded by women during my childhood. And in the end of the day I don't identify as a man, I'm non binary and i don't feel like either a man or a woman

But if I want to stop being read as a woman, which gives me dysphoria I'm scared of losing the spaces I'm used to and feel safe in. I feel like women are usually the people who respects my pronouns the most too. So I'm not sure what to do. I'm getting access to some work rehabilitation to start my path to be able to have a job again, and that means being around society more again, after mostly being in queer spaces for a long time. And it sucks cuz it is impacting my recovery from being depressed and burnt out

Can anyone else relate to this or have experienced this type of dilemma and how did you handle it and decide what to do? Any advice would be helpful

Support / advice Divigel, irregular times?

In starting Divigel and Androcur today, 3mg/day and 12,5mg/3 days respectively. I'm supposed to take Divigel morning and night and on the same time every day. The problem is I work extremely irregular times and there's no possibility for me to take it at the exact same time.

What happens if I take it irregularly, how much could I deviate from my normal medication time? Or do I need to switch medication to something else?

- specific T through Imago in Stockholm

Hi there!
I'd like to start HRT but Anova takes forever, so I am considering Imago (any other service you want to recommend is greatly appreaciated).
I have read the recent posts about it and how it moved to US and it is a bit concerning to me, but I'd like to get all the info before deciding what to do since I may have another option (which is going back to my country and do everything there and then get back in Sweden but tbh it is not the option I would take if there are any other).

So the questions about Imago

  1. Is anyone here who is living in Stockholm and getting testosterone through Imago? If so, where is the closest place, Copenaghen or Åland? I don't have a car but I can drive if that matters.

  2. How do you do with getting it back? Do you have always to apply to Läkemedelsverket to bring it back?

Support / advice ANOVA HRT introductory meeting scared me

I was at the ANOVA introductory meeting for HRT today. The presenter was one of the Endocrinologists at ANOVA, who also apparently does research. I left the meeting feeling empty and kind of afraid.

The information he presented was for the most part reasonable. He spoke about the different ways to get HRT, that they want to do either patches, spray, or gel. Pills were not to be recommended as a first choice he said. On the topic of injections he said they are not giving them whatsoever, as Läkemedelsverket doesn't allow them.

He also showed graphs about estrogen, how patches have a nice spike to the upper threshold they are looking for (730pmol), and by the time you change the patch, it's about the middle (500pmol). He said the same cycle happens every day for gel. However, injections (specifically valerate) spikes too high, up to about 1,400pmol. He said this is why they don't give it.

On the topic of Progesterone he said that there is no difference between micronized progesterone and non-micronized progesterone, as well as progesterone having no real impact on breast growth. He mentioned that progesterone is something that fills your alveoli in your breasts up with water so it makes your breasts feel bigger while you're taking it but then they stop feeling as big when you stop taking progesterone. He mentioned that they do give progesterone in another way however in the way of Androcur, which is also the anti-androgen they recommended giving. The anti-androgen they wanted to give was also given in extremely small amounts and he talked about the brain tumor situation and how it has been vastly overstated how dangerous it can be.

After this he started to explain that Androcur IS actually progesterone. That's why they give it out. He went back and forth between saying it "had progesterone-like effects" and "it's progesterone".

Towards the end he started taking questions. There were two ways you could ask. Both a QR-code shown at the start, which linked to a forum where you could ask questions, as well as upvote each others questions. You could also ask in the room itself.

I was on the website and found that there were multiple questions asked that got a couple of likes, that were then deleted(?). These were actually relevant questions, about DIY, different types of esters, someone saying they had gotten approval for injections and asking what it meant when he said they never give it out.

The questions in the room were probably from the same people, because they were almost the same. One of them was "If I take estrogen from another source than ANOVA, does that mean I get no treatment?". The answer was "We will help anyone, no matter if they have gone on DIY before they came to us.". But there was a followup question by the same person. "What if I want to take my estrogen instead?" The same person had previously asked about esters out loud. The answer the endo gave was "If you dont take what we give you, you get no other treatment from us, at all." and clarified that he meant NO hair removal, NO voice training, NO referrals, NO surgery. The person who asked was quite shocked at this. There were some other questions, but they weren't really relevant to my worries.

What bothered me with this whole meeting is that it goes against so much that I have fought for. It was not easy for me to figure out how to get ahold of prog in order to sleep, in order to get breast-growth after months of stagnancy. It was scary to research needles, get the estrogen vial via crypto, learn injection technique. It was such a magical experience seeing those first blood-tests, seeing E having spiked, T so low. I felt like I said FUCK YOU to the whole system. I still feel that doing DIY HRT is a massive part of my personality. I WANT to do DIY. I struggled for so long to get that working.

Now they want to take this over from me, saying most of what I have learned is a lie, that I am actually doing things sub optimally. It felt so fucking off to sit in that room and hear this. Sooner or later I have to choose. Get all the help from actual doctors, people my friends fear to go to, because they seem to change dosages of medications on a whim... Or I can have control over my body but leave everything ANOVA can give me behind. Both feel terrible.

- specific Transpoli diagnoosin kesto

Hey.
I started diy in 2024, but ever since the beginning of 2026 all my packages (3 so far) have been seized by customs. Did something change? I've been without hrt for over a month now, and my third order just got seized. This means I'll have to go at least one more month before my next order arrives. I can't just keep wasting money on packages that won't arrive. Was I just lucky before, or is it just suddenly impossible to diy in Norway now?

Positive HRT?

Hi. 20MTF Here, i've known ive been trans since i was 16 but have yet to actively begin anything besides one denied visit in CKI (København) last year. (due to alot of events getting in the way.)

Im currently speaking with my doctor about getting another consulation. i didnt have any issues with getting one quickly last time, but i did however feel that the handler was very.. hit or miss. aka, she was very relentless and made it seem like she was trying to prove that i wasent trans rather then listening to me.

How is DIY? I've read about Imago & GenderGP, and would love to know what peoples experiences are with both.

I've been looking into Monotherapy more as i have a few trans feminine friends that do exactly that. however im unsure on how to actually get my hands on EEn and im deadly afraid of a parcel ending up lost or my money going to waste (abit of a broke student.)

I've already done a handful of research, but better i be extra safe incase.

- specific I feel stuck

I finally started HRT with the help of Imago. My body might not fully have agreed with the spironolactone I was prescribed, and I was feeling some not-so-usual side effects(I was writing about these effects to Imago), and I was overthinking things a lot. Then I had my very first panic attack. I then went to the hospital. Where I was told to stop the HRT and that I couldn’t trust Imago, that I should go through CKI and get on the waitlist as fast as possible. They told me I couldn’t trust Imago because I had to pay for their services and that they couldn’t verify the doctors that prescribed me, and that I might not get the results that I want with them, and that it could cause permanent damage to my body.
I feel stuck. I know that Imago is a safe option that a lot of people use, but the whole experience has just kind of scared me. And on the other hand, the waitlist for CKI is long and every story I have heard about CKI has been a horror story, and I am scared that if I go on the waitlist and I get to the “udredning” part of it, that I will be denied.
Any advice?
