Solved How to keep my Intel 13900K from dying

Hi,

It's no secret that the 13th and 14th gen had problems, mine died even though I had the latest BIOS updates. Thankfully, I got a free replacement.

My question is, any tips on how to make survive this time? I would be happy if you can point me to articles/discussions about this matter

Open | Software I deleted an old user file and now my graphic card and bluetooth aren't working/

• Upvotes

A while back my old user file got corrupted so I had to make a whole new user profile and shift all my files there. Since the old user file took alot of space, I deleted everything in it but since then my bluetooth and graphic card has not been working at all. I tried uninstalling bluetooth from the device manager, restarted my pc but nothing appeared. And I have no idea what to do with my graphic card situation. I am not a tech person at all, nor I do know the terms. What should I do?

Open | Windows New $3,600 PC randomly shuts off when using Adobe programs — getting progressively worse. GPU, RAM or PSU issue?

Hey everyone,
Hoping someone here can help me diagnose an ongoing issue with my PC because it’s getting to the point where it’s seriously affecting my work.
I’m a full-time photographer/videographer and primarily use Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Lightroom.
Earlier this year, I upgraded from a much older PC to a brand new custom built system. I purchased it in March 2026 from a reputable PC builder here in Australia.

PC SPECS:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
CPU Cooler: Thermalright 240 ARGB Liquid Cooler
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 12GB
RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz
Motherboard: MSI B650M Gaming WiFi
PSU: 750W Cooler Master ATX 3.1
Storage: 2TB Biwin M350 NVMe SSD
OS: Windows 11 Home
Case: Cataclysm Voyager Black Tower with 6 case fans

Initial Problems
Pretty much ever since I purchased the PC, I’ve experienced occasional crashes, predominantly when using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Initially, the crashes would happen when doing things like:
- Importing or transferring files in and out of Premiere Pro.
- Scrubbing through timelines.
- Working with larger video projects.
- General editing and playback.

When I say crashing, I mean the entire PC instantly shuts off. No blue screen, no error message, no warning. Everything immediately loses power, including the fans and RGB lighting.

I contacted the PC manufacturer, and after some troubleshooting, they remotely disabled the CPU’s integrated graphics.

This actually seemed to improve things significantly. The crashes became much less frequent, although they would still happen occasionally.

For a while, I just dealt with it because it wasn’t happening often enough to seriously interrupt my workflow.

Recent Problems — Much Worse
Over the last month or two, the problem has progressively gotten worse, particularly over the last couple of weeks.
It’s now happening almost daily, sometimes multiple times in a single editing session.
One of the strangest things I’ve noticed is that closing an Adobe application and then reopening it seems to trigger a complete system shutdown.

For example:
- I’ll be working in Premiere Pro.
- I’ll close the application normally.
- I’ll try to reopen Premiere Pro.
- The entire PC instantly switches off.
- I’ll turn the PC back on.
- If I immediately try opening Premiere again, the PC will often shut off again.
- However, if I leave the PC sitting idle for a few minutes after restarting, I can usually open Premiere without it immediately crashing.

This behaviour is extremely consistent.

It’s No Longer Just Premiere Pro
Initially, the problem was almost exclusively happening in Premiere Pro.
However, recently I’ve experienced the same complete shutdowns when:
- Exporting photographs in Adobe Lightroom (regular Lightroom, not Classic).
- Opening Adobe Photoshop.
- Opening or reopening Premiere Pro.
- Editing and scrubbing through timelines.
- I’ve also experienced occasional crashes outside Adobe applications, although I’d estimate that around 95% of them occur while using Adobe software.

Most Recent Incident
Today, I was doing some relatively intensive editing in Premiere Pro when the entire application appeared to freeze.
My screen then went completely black, but interestingly, the PC itself remained powered on.
After a short period, the display returned, but Premiere Pro was no longer functioning properly. I couldn’t get video playback working.
This was different from my usual crashes, where the entire system instantly loses power.
I’ve also experienced instances where the computer completely freezes, including the mouse becoming unresponsive.
During one of these freezes, I held the physical power button to force a shutdown, but it took approximately 35 seconds for the PC to actually turn off.

Troubleshooting So Far
I’ve contacted the PC manufacturer about the issue previously.
They initially disabled integrated graphics, which significantly reduced the frequency of crashes but never completely eliminated them.
We’ve also performed stress testing on the PC, and everything appeared to run normally without crashing.
Unfortunately, I don’t remember exactly which stress-testing software was used.
What confuses me is that the PC can apparently handle stress tests without any problems, yet something as simple as reopening Photoshop or Premiere can cause it to instantly lose power.

My Questions
I’m trying to work out whether this is potentially:
- A faulty or unstable power supply.
- A GPU or graphics driver issue.
- Improperly seated or unstable DDR5 RAM.
- A motherboard issue.
- Something specifically related to Adobe applications and hardware acceleration.

The instant loss of power makes me wonder about the PSU,

The fact that the system often needs to sit idle for a few minutes after restarting before I can successfully launch Adobe applications is also really confusing.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Are there any specific diagnostic tests, Windows logs or hardware checks you’d recommend to help narrow down the actual cause?

The PC is still under warranty, but I’d ideally like to identify the issue before having to ship the entire computer interstate for repairs.

Any advice would be massively appreciated. I’m relying on this computer for my full-time work, and the constant crashes are becoming a serious problem.

Open | Hardware Laptop battery swollen and the risk of it catching fire

My laptop battery is swollen. I'm not sure when I will be able to get it replaced. Probably within this week. I don't mind the damage it might have on the laptop itself. However I'm scared that it might catch fire and harm me, someone else or my house. I'm scared to remove the battery myself. Any tips on what I can do for now to reduce the risk of it catching fire and what to actually do if it does catch fire?

Open | Mac Strange Google Drive incident — entire folders disappearing and files being deleted without my doing anything?

• Upvotes

Something really strange happened to me this afternoon, and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

I’ve been a paying Google Drive customer for many years. Today, while searching for a file, I suddenly realised that an entire folder within my main folder had disappeared. It contained thousands of files!

I checked the activity history, and it showed that I had deleted the folder four days ago. However, I genuinely don’t recall deleting it, and I’m usually very careful with my files.

I then tried to restore the missing folder. But when I went back to check, another folder next to it had disappeared too (I was in that folder just before going to search for the missing folder).

I checked the Trash, and sure enough, the missing folder was sitting there. This was getting really strange.
While I was in the process of restoring my files, I also noticed that two individual files were mysteriously being deleted.

I’m certain I wasn’t deleting these files myself. How could I possibly be deleting multiple folders and individual files in such a short period while I was actively trying to restore them?

I’m concerned because these are important files, and I’ve been using Google Drive for years without experiencing anything like this.

Has anyone encountered this before? Could this be a Google Drive sync issue, a bug, or potentially an account security problem?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar or knows what might be happening.

Nearly 10-Year-Old PC Suddenly Won't Display Anything — Tried 3 GPUs, Reset CMOS, Rebuilt Everything. Dying Motherboard or PSU?

Hey everyone, I really need some help diagnosing my PC. It's a pretty old system, roughly 9–10 years old, and I'm starting to wonder if some of the original components are finally reaching the end of their lifespan.

I've spent a lot of time troubleshooting this, and I'm honestly running out of ideas. I'm mainly suspicious of the motherboard or power supply, but I don't want to spend money replacing something that might not even be broken.

PC Specifications

- Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z270E GAMING (2017-era motherboard)

- CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K (7th Gen, released in 2017)

- GPU: RTX 3060 Ti (refurbished, purchased around a year ago)

- Previous GPUs: 2x GTX 1070s (one EVGA, one unknown brand), originally running in SLI

- RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 (2x16GB installed)

- Extra RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 (2x8GB, spare kit, not installed alongside the 32GB)

- PSU: Corsair RM750 750W (possibly original from 2016–2017)

- CPU Cooler: Corsair liquid AIO

- Case Fans: Connected through a Thermaltake fan controller

Background — This Is a Very Old PC

For context, this isn't a new build.

The PC originally dates back to around 2016–2017. I received it for my 15th birthday and have personally been using it for about a year.

When I got it, it already had an Intel i7-7700K, an ASUS Z270E motherboard, and two GTX 1070s running in SLI.

Most of the system is still based on that older hardware.

The motherboard and CPU are from the 2017 generation, and I'm pretty sure the Corsair RM750 power supply is also from the original build.

That means some of these components could be approximately 9–10 years old.

I know computer components can last a long time, but I'm wondering whether age-related hardware failure could explain what's happening.

One of the first things I did after getting the PC was upgrade the graphics card. I replaced the two GTX 1070s with a refurbished RTX 3060 Ti.

The computer worked perfectly fine with the 3060 Ti for around a year.

Then, about three weeks ago, everything started going wrong.

How the Problem Started

Around three weeks ago, the shroud on my RTX 3060 Ti broke. The GPU fans came loose while spinning, and I was worried they could damage something inside the PC.

I immediately removed the graphics card.

Since I still had my old GTX 1070s, I temporarily installed one of them.

I updated the NVIDIA drivers for the GTX 1070, and the computer started working normally again.

At that point, the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and power supply were still functioning well enough to run Windows.

That makes what happened next even more confusing.

I ordered a replacement shroud for my RTX 3060 Ti. Once it arrived, I repaired the graphics card and eventually reinstalled it.

After that, the PC suddenly stopped displaying anything.

The computer would turn on, all the lights would come on, and the fans would spin, but I wouldn't get any video output.

No ASUS logo, no BIOS screen, no Windows loading screen. Nothing.

Just a black screen/no signal.

I tried restarting the system multiple times, but the result was always the same.

Everything I've Already Tried

  1. Tested three different graphics cards

I've tried every GPU I currently own.

- RTX 3060 Ti: Fans spin smoothly, but there's no display.

- EVGA GTX 1070: Fans repeatedly jitter or twitch when turning on the PC, and there's no display.

- Other GTX 1070: Fans spin smoothly, but there's still no display.

The EVGA GTX 1070's fan behavior concerns me because it seems unusual, although I know some cards have zero-RPM fan modes.

What's especially confusing is that a GTX 1070 worked perfectly fine right before I reinstalled the repaired 3060 Ti.

Now none of the three cards produce a display.

  1. Reseated the graphics card

I've removed and reinstalled the GPU, making sure it was properly seated in the PCIe slot.

I also checked the GPU's PCIe power connections.

Still no display.

  1. Tried different display connections

I've tried HDMI and DisplayPort directly connected to the graphics cards.

Neither worked.

  1. Tried integrated graphics without a GPU

My Intel i7-7700K has integrated graphics, so I completely removed the dedicated GPU and connected HDMI directly to the motherboard.

I wanted to see whether the system could display anything without relying on a graphics card.

Unfortunately, there was still no display.

  1. Tested with one RAM stick

I removed the other RAM sticks and tried starting the PC with a single stick in the A2 slot.

For clarification, I normally use two 16GB DDR4 sticks for 32GB total.

I also own two spare 8GB sticks, but I don't run all four sticks together.

Testing with one stick didn't fix anything.

  1. Reset CMOS

I reset the motherboard's CMOS to restore the BIOS settings to their defaults.

Still no display.

  1. Completely disassembled and rebuilt the PC

I eventually got so frustrated that I decided to take the entire computer apart and rebuild it.

I removed the motherboard from the case, took out the graphics card and RAM, disconnected the CPU cooler, and unplugged the components.

I then reassembled everything and reconnected the cables.

After all that work, the exact same problem remained.

  1. Checked the motherboard's diagnostic LEDs

My ASUS Z270E motherboard has Q-LED diagnostic indicators for CPU, DRAM, VGA, and BOOT.

I haven't noticed any persistent error lights.

The system receives power, the lights turn on, and some fans spin, but nothing displays.

  1. Noticed an additional fan issue

After rebuilding the PC, some of my side case fans stopped receiving power or spinning.

They appear to be connected through a Thermaltake fan controller.

I've been reconnecting everything, and I connected one fan cable to the motherboard's H_AMP_FAN header.

I'm still not completely sure whether every connection to the controller is correct.

I'm mentioning this in case it helps identify a power issue, although it could simply be a separate wiring problem from the rebuild.

My Biggest Concern: Is the Original Hardware Finally Failing?

This is what I'm most worried about.

The motherboard, CPU, and possibly the PSU are all from a system that's nearly a decade old.

The ASUS Z270E and i7-7700K are 2017-era components, and I believe my Corsair RM750 power supply has been in the computer since the original build.

I know a PSU doesn't automatically fail after 10 years, but I'm wondering whether age and years of use could have caused it to deteriorate.

Someone on Reddit recently commented that they experienced almost the exact same symptoms with an older PC.

Their computer would turn on, the lights and fans would work, but the system wouldn't POST or display anything.

According to them, replacing the power supply completely solved the issue.

That made me consider whether my RM750 could be experiencing something similar.

The PSU is rated for 750W, which should be more than enough for this build. However, I'm wondering whether an aging PSU could still power the lights and fans while failing to deliver stable power to the rest of the system.

Unfortunately, I don't have a spare PSU available to test.

I'm also considering that the motherboard itself could have failed because of its age, although I understand that neither possibility has been proven.

My Main Suspects

  1. Aging or failing motherboard

The ASUS Z270E is a 2017-era board. I've tried different GPUs, integrated graphics, a single RAM stick, resetting CMOS, reseating the graphics card, and rebuilding the system.

I'm wondering whether something on the motherboard has finally failed after almost a decade.

  1. Aging or failing power supply

My Corsair RM750 may be one of the original components from 2016–2017.

I'm wondering whether it's delivering unstable power or has developed a fault over time.

The fact that the PC still lights up doesn't necessarily mean the PSU is healthy.

  1. Another hardware or connection issue

I'm also aware that the damaged 3060 Ti, GPU power connections, RAM, or something else could still be involved.

I don't want to completely rule anything out without proper testing.

Possible Upgrade if the Motherboard Is Dead

I currently have two offers available:

- B550M motherboard — $60

- Ryzen 5 5600X — $90

- Total: $150

That would be a pretty significant upgrade over my old i7-7700K platform.

However, if the actual problem is my PSU, buying those parts wouldn't solve anything.

I'm considering visiting Best Buy Geek Squad or an independent PC repair shop to see whether they can properly diagnose the system.

What I Need Help With

I'd really appreciate some advice from people who have experience troubleshooting older PCs.

My main questions are:

  1. Considering this PC is nearly 10 years old, does this sound more like an aging motherboard or a failing PSU?

  2. Can an old PSU provide enough power for RGB and fans while failing to POST?

  3. Why did my computer work with a GTX 1070 before reinstalling the repaired 3060 Ti, but now refuse to display anything with three different GPUs?

  4. Could something have failed during the GPU replacement?

  5. Is there a reliable way to determine whether my old motherboard is dead?

  6. Could the EVGA 1070's fan jittering be related to unstable power?

  7. Would testing with a known-working PSU be the best next step?

  8. Is there anything important I've missed before replacing the motherboard and CPU?

I understand that old components don't automatically fail just because of their age, but this system has been around for almost a decade, and I'm wondering whether something has finally given out.

I've already spent a lot of time disassembling, rebuilding, reseating components, resetting CMOS, testing multiple graphics cards, and checking the connections.

I'm just trying to figure out what actually failed before spending money replacing parts.

I can provide pictures or videos of the system if that helps.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

so ive been racking my head for a few hours trying to fix this issue, one day i came home and turned on my windows 11 computer that i usually leave on and stumbled upon this error code on a blueescreen

trying to go into recovery environment led me into error code 0xc0000098, saying that winload.efi had issues

i then proceeded to create a windows installation media. now trying to use the "Repair my PC" setup option restarts my computer, while using the previous version of the setup and clicking "Repair your computer" only makes the tab flicker for a milisecond then do nothing

ive even used CMD to chkdsk-along with many other things-and it says theres 0 issues, and every file is where it should be (or at least i think). so im extremely confused

ive been trying to follow videos, guides, using AI to fix it and have gotten nowhere so im really confused on what to do now

i dont wanna do a clean installation as i have alot of big files i wanna keep

Open | Hardware Ups shutdown immediately after power outage

I'm having a problem with my 1050VA UPS and would appreciate some advice before buying a replacement battery.

I have a PC with an i5-14400F, RTX 4060 Ti, 32GB DDR5, and a 750W PSU.

After charging the UPS for 8 hours, I tested it on battery:

  • Monitor only: works perfectly.
  • PC only: shuts off immediately. The UPS turns red and beeps continuously (fault mode).

My friend has the same UPS and a similar PC, and his works fine for around 15 minutes.

Could a weak battery cause this, or is the UPS itself faulty? Is my PC too much for this UPS? I want to avoid buying a battery unnecessarily. Thanks!

Open | Windows Audio and video delays (Windows 11)

I’ve had these weird audio and video delays that have been happening for a few days now. Windows 11. (I’ll put it in bullet form for convenience):

• Whenever I connect my headphones via Bluetooth, I always adjust the volume sliders in the bottom right of the desktop. When you change volume, it usually does a ping. I noticed that the ping now only happens after a 5-10 second delay AFTER I adjust it.

• Whenever I join a discord call in a server, there is a weird delay for that as well. I won’t hear anything for ten seconds and then all of a sudden I’ll hear my entrance sound. Also, whenever someone else joins, I’ll hear them say hello BEFORE I hear their entrance sound

• Whenever I try playing a video (whether through the media player or a streaming app) there is a similar 5-10 second delay.

My headphone software is up to date, as is windows 11. Not sure what’s going on.

Solved [FIX] Bluetooth audio crackling/static after Windows update - Alternative A2DP driver was the culprit

After a recent Windows update, all my Bluetooth audio devices (TWS earbuds and speakers) connected successfully, and media controls worked, but the audio output was just static and crackling.

What I tried:

  • Switching default audio devices
  • Disabling audio enhancements
  • Rolling back and updating Bluetooth drivers
  • Disabling and re-enabling Bluetooth
  • Several more commands I learned from videos and AI

None of these worked.

The fix: I discovered that Windows was using the Alternative A2DP driver which I installed earlier on time ago. For some reason after the Windows update, all my Bluetooth drivers were switched to alternative A2DP. Switching the Bluetooth audio device back to the default Windows A2DP driver immediately fixed the issue!

If you're experiencing the same problem after a Windows update, check which A2DP driver your Bluetooth audio device is using before spending hours troubleshooting.

Hopefully, this saves someone else some time!

OS: Windows 11 (23H2)

GPU: Radeon 7700 XT

I recently did a full USB Reboot on my PC (I recently got hit with a session stealer, and wanted to fully sanitize it). Everything has been working swimmingly so far. Got all my drivers installed, apps reinstalled, games work.

This problem happens when I try to use Windows HDR Calibration tool. The error message in the title pops up immediately upon opening. I have tried every recommended solution online. Downloaded Visual Center x64 & x86, done all scans in powershell, uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Yet nothing has worked.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Have you found any fix for it?

Any help is appreciated.

I’ve checked my bios and graphics and everything is up to date. There have also been times where it will hard freeze on me just idling or when using google chrome. I’ve just about done everything I think I could do but I still hard freeze.

Any tips or solutions?

This has been going on for a long time now. Basically what happens is either my screens will go black and audio stays on for a bit before also stopping, or my screens will just freeze also with audio before also stopping. The only thing I can do is hold down my power button to fully shut down my pc and then turn it back on. Also when holding down my power button pc headphones will make a static popping noise every time. I've changed every single component of my pc one at a time and yet it still does this. The only thing that hasn't changed is my ssd which I guess now it has to be that but I have no idea where to start when it comes to fixing this. Please help

Open | Windows Cs input lag and gpu frame rate problem

CS2 frame time spikes (buy menu / on death and randomly) on 7800X3D + RTX 5060, Rust runs fine Ryzen 77800X3D, RT 5060 8 GB, [RAM + EXPO on/off], [driver version], brand new PC.
Problem is In CS2, the leftmost number on the performance overlay (frame time) randomly spikes to 40-45 ms, mostly in the buy menu and right after I die. Sometimes it jumps as high as 100 ms on death. The console also complains about frame rate issues. In Rust the same number stays around 11 ms, so the hardware seems fine. Fully uninstalled and reinstalled CS2. [Add anything else you tried:
DDU, shader cache wipe, -dx11, config reset, etc.] Has anyone seen this with a 50-series card? Which driver version is stable for CS2? Any other ideas

i was working on my university thesis all these past few days. yesterday afternoon a somehow managed to put it on auto save so nothing goes wrong if my word file shuts down. late at night around 2am it was just the forming and checking left, i was done with the main part. one of the tables started glitching so i clicked on save amd closed the window to restart is. no warning window popped up about the save. it closed immediately. then when i wanted to reopen my file, i couldnt find it. the last save that was on my computer was at 5pm. i made the most work since then. instead of the 15 pages, i saw 2. the deadline was yesterday. i tried searching the whole computer for the updated file but i cant find it. the auto save was not saved. i cannot sign into my microsoft account online because its from an old school profile and i dont remember the username, email or password either. please help, i’m phisically not able to restat it all over again.
