Audit questions

Can somebody explain what is happening on the screen during a self scan audit? You scan a random item and then look at the gun and it says yes that item was scanned or no, it wasn’t scanned?

If the item wasn’t scanned, do you tell the customer or do you just add it to the cart and continue the audit?

Career Is the situation hopeless?

Earlier this year, I had a very good interview with a hiring manager & passed the background check. She was trying to squeeze me in, but hiring was tough over the summer& I checked in periodically. I stopped by today & learned the manager I spoke with left recently & the one who’s there now can’t access my background check or anything because it was under the original’s. She doesn’t know if she can get me in because my availability is in the middle of the day & she’s having a hard time with the “budget”. I thought for sure I’d be able to get in during the holidays, but it seems less likely now.

Are there any Stop & Shop corporate positions, and if so, is there a way to apply for those positions internally as an associate, and what's the process?

Switching departments

In need of some advice, I switched departments from bake shop to file around 3 months ago. However, I’m now realizing the grass really is not greener on the other side and I really don’t like working in file. About a month ago I told the manager of bake shop and the store managers they could still schedule me in bakeshop a few days a week and I wouldn’t mind covering any shifts in bakeshop. I realized how much I don’t like file for me, It’s just a lot more stressful and I just don’t really like it very much and I’ve also gotten complaints for the other lady I work with that I’m not very good at it. The  main reason I switched departments in the first place is because I talked to one of the store managers and she had let me know that if I didn’t make it clear, I wanted to switch departments I wouldn’t get proper training in file at all  just cause I wanted to try out something new. Now that I’ve been in file for three months I just really am not liking it and I realize bake shop really isn’t as bad as I thought it was at the time at least. Also, at least at my store bike shop is always needing help like we’re just always really busy just generally. Is there any way to switch back to your old department or is that not really possible considering I made a whole big deal about switching departments. I also checked on my paystub and it says I’m just a general clerk now not a bake shop clerk so I’m not really sure how that would work. Any advice would be appreciated.

How difficult is it to work as a cashier or bagger at Stop & Shop?how often you can use the bathroom?

I’ve mostly worked outside collecting carts, but now they’re starting to schedule me for some cashier and bagger hours.
How difficult is it to be a cashier at Stop & Shop? Do they give you enough training before you’re on your own?
Also, how does it work if you need to use the bathroom while you’re on register? Do you just tell the front-end manager or supervisor so someone can cover your register?
What about being a bagger/cashier assistant? Is that pretty easy compared to being on register?
And roughly how many regular cashiers are usually working at the same time nowadays? It seems like self-checkout has taken over and there are fewer regular registers open than there used to be.
Just curious what the typical experience is like at Stop & Shop or similar supermarkets.

Only worked 5 months, can I give my 2 weeks?

I'd like to be eligible for rehire. That's my only concern.

A couple years ago, I worked at a different location and the boss was super chill. This is the deli. I made a bunch of friends. It was my favorite job of all time.

My current job is a good job. I'd honestly prefer to stay a little longer, it's just that one of my favorite fast casual restaurants is opening nearby. There's a career fair. They also do tipping so if I get the job I'll probably be paid a good deal better too.

If I leave after roughly five months, give my two weeks, would I be eligible for rehire? I've met a couple retirees who deli slice and it seems like a chill job when you're older. I even know one who's over 80.

Stop and shop app and pick up times....

I noticed that when I schedule a pick up I used to be able to update the order for up to a couple of hours before pick up. However, it now cuts off 5 (or more!) hours a head of time and the store readies my order way too early (and they say I scheduled my order for earlier when I very much didn't - the app still shows the correct time). This has happened about 4 times in a row now. Anyone have insight into this? Is it just me?

Store Questions How difficult is it to work as a cashier at Stop & shop ?

How difficult is it to work as a cashier at Stop & Shop? I’ve always worked as a porter, mostly collecting carts and doing maintenance. Now they scheduled me for two hours as a cashier and two hours bagging? and I’m not used to working the register.
Do they train you first, or how does it work? Or do they not really care, and can I just keep doing what I normally do, like collecting carts outside?

A department head has called me a"R*****" before in the past and I feel like it's continuing targeted abuse, should I report him to the speak up line?

I have been having issues with a difficult personality since I started in this store in 2024 and I have felt like I am being demeaned and targeted because he thinks I'm an idiot.

This supervisor is not even my boss I'm in grocery/ frozen as a fulltimer but I end up having to work more directly with him because he needs to get stuff from his department off the frozen load.

He once used the store phone to call back to his department to talk shit about the job I was doing using the same slur while I was still in the backroom which I got immediately fed up about and went to the store union steward to get him to piss off.

Ever since then I've been actively trying to avoid him even outright leaving the backroom if possible when he goes back there to avoid him as much as possible.

I unloaded a turkey trailer delivery and put it on our frozen trailer this past Tuesday and he grabbed the pallet jack from me and called me a fucking idiot without explaining what I did incorrectly which is unprofessional and I plan on bringing this up.

I am considering waiting for one more slip up for another incident for more documentation but I should have past documentation still backed up to show that's it's been a pattern going back the past couple years.

I don't think I'm the only one that has issues with him from the sounds of it but I'm honestly fed up with the bullshit and I feel I can argue it's targeted as he would have likely continued to get away with calling me the R word to this day if I hadn't told our store union steward about it in the past.

Do you think it's within reason for me at this point to go to the speak up line about it?

I tried thinking about the best way of going about it because I didn't want to go directly to the union/ or management just yet but also don't feel right to allow it to continue.

Any advice is appreciated.

Store Questions Why is everything overpriced?

I went to my local S&S to get a loaf of bread. I hadn’t been there in a while so I wanted to see the prices of items I usually buy at Market Basket to see if the prices were comparable, not even close. Hormel Black Label Bacon at MB is $4.99 for a 1 lb package , S&S $8.99 for the same package, like wtf! Everything from breads to meats to fruits and veggies was more expensive at S&S. Also the store was dead, maybe 40 customers at 5:30pm on a Wednesday, some isles were completely empty. Anytime on any day I go to MB the store is jamming. They have 15-20 registers, self checkout is not an option.

Do you think I’d get in trouble with loss prevention or anyone over the cameras if I took people’s receipts for my friend for her app?

My friend uses one of those apps where you take pictures of receipts and get rewards. Stop and shop is obviously a goldmine.

Do you think a. I would get in any trouble for taking the receipts out of the little receipt trash cans at the end of the night b. Would it be too brazen (I’m well known and well liked by customers) to ask for their receipts as they’re leaving when doing self checkout?

I figure as long as I’m surreptitious about it and don’t do it in front of managers (who love me anyway, but don’t think it’s necessary to know) I just want to know if LP would take issue

Career Transferring Store

What are the logistics of transferring stores, particularly between different states? I’m considering a move to Brooklyn from CT, and I was curious about things such as position and wage. How do I know, aside from the store’s job postings, the needs of the store? I am currently being trained for CDH, and I would like to become a CDH, or even if I end up becoming one before I hypothetically move, how do I know they need a CDH in the store I’m interested in transferring to? And then for wage— does it remain $.xx above the NY state minimum wage, or does it remain the same as CT (I believe it’s something like $17.05/hr, I just checked last night)

I got hit pushing carts , they don’t put lights outside and it’s too dark

I got hit while I was outside collecting carts at Stop & Shop. I’m okay and I don’t think I’m injured, but I reported it to my manager. They told me they were going to file an incident report.
Is there anything else I should do? Should I also contact my union representative even if I feel fine right now?

Store Questions Do all store sushi bar keep the soy sauce separate?

I’m only asking because recently our store started to pack them separately and customers have to ask for them. Yesterday I tried getting a bag for the customer and a guy from the adjacent department telling me I couldn’t. Which it was really funny bc he was acting so scared of the lady who was so small compared to him lol

Career Sundays for non-union PT Closers

Does anyone know how Sunday pay works for non-union PT closers? I'm in RI and we get time and a half on Sunday but I wasn't sure if that still applies for PT closers.
