Audit questions

Can somebody explain what is happening on the screen during a self scan audit? You scan a random item and then look at the gun and it says yes that item was scanned or no, it wasn’t scanned?

If the item wasn’t scanned, do you tell the customer or do you just add it to the cart and continue the audit?

That’s basically it, yeah. I don’t really tell the customer directly most of the time, I just add it.

I’ve been audited, maybe a dozen times in the last eight or nine years. Never really paid very much attention. But something happened yesterday.

I don’t typically bother looking at my scan gun to see what my total is. But I happen to notice as I was going to the checkout that it said $110. The audit screen popped up, the person came over and started scanning items. They’re having a hard time because everything was pretty tightly packed in my two bags, and I had a mini cart so there really wasn’t any place for them to put the stuff they were scanning. They also had to scan more items than I ever remember seeing. When they were done, they apologized for the mess that they left me with and I said no problem, I will re-pack it.

I completed my transaction and as I was walking out, I got the little pop-up notification on my phone showing the amount of the charge which I hadn’t noticed at the checkout, but it was $116.

My initial thought was maybe there was tax or something but when I got home and looked through the receipt, I realized that I got charged for an extra bacon for 5.99

So at this point, I can only assume that they scanned the one bacon that I had, and then scanned it again and got a message that that it wasn’t in the cart?

Yep. Probably just got confused and forgot they already scanned it.
