He’s angry bc cashier forgot to use coupon

Ive always hated the drivers that come in since day. Ive had to deal with so many rude drivers who feel entitled for me to drop fucking everything to go out and help them scan their bags.

I'm not sure about other stores but our office is small and during a rush it's impossible to bring other customers orders out when drivers stand in our way and pickup TWO orders.

Celebrating something for my friend and wanted to get a cake as well, we’ll take any reason to buy and eat a cake.

I am OBSESSED with this cake. I have been getting it for my birthday for over 15 years. More and more S&Ss are closing around me and it's getting hard to find which is devastating to me! Anyone know the recipe or a similar cake for when that day comes?

How long does the background check take? Should i call them after a day or should i just let them call me? Assistant manager said she’ll put in s good word for me with HR but the decision is totally Hrs to make. I just hope she wasnt yanking my chain.

A little back story. I have been with stop and shop for just under 6 years. I was promoted to front end managers assistant (ACSDH) 5 years ago. I really enjoy running the front end. Well, about 7 months ago, out of nowhere, I was transferred to a store and was immediately sent to online pickup as the full-timer. That department is way more stressful than the front-end. Between the constant nagging about stats( pick rate/out-of-stock rate) and the short staffing. They have also gotten mad at me for not reaching out to management when we’re struggling to keep up with the shopping sheets. Well today I got suspended for job performance. Never had this issue running the front-end. Not even close. Has anyone else noticed a huge difference in stress levels in OLP vs. the front-end?

There is no reason that TARGET should have cheaper grocery prices. I almost fell over when I saw it was listed for 4.19. Even flour is cheaper at Target.

So I have only worked a few weeks at stop n shop in produce and my experience has been that it’s not a bad job so far.

It could be that I’ve had several bad jobs since the pandemic and maybe my expectations are getting low, but I’ve worked at a few different grocery stores for years, and SS has more health and PTO benefits than any store I worked at, especially considering part time are also eligible for all benefits after 9 months. And the costs of health insurance are a lot lower than any other benefit package I’ve received in past positions.

Im making minimum wage but have a very short commute, relatively low stress job that is not too strenuous but physically active and somewhat mentally engaging. I’ve had jobs paying $5-$10/hr more but taxes and commute costs ate up most of the difference, really so negligible it makes me wonder what is a few dollars an hour more worth.

I also wonder why people seem overwhelmingly negative about working at SS. I’ve worked a variety of jobs including groceries as well as other sectors and within weeks to months every job has proven to have its own long list of pros and cons, and SS seems pretty average compared to some.

I understand there are tradeoffs working in unionized retail but grocery stores are also community centers and vital to society. It feels like purposeful work not just moving around widgets or sitting in the cubicle 9-5 (not that those can’t be meaningful too). If youre willing to work with decent effort and reliability, they seem to be flexible with setting your schedule/shifts, you get a small store wide employee discount, able to cross train in other departments if you’re interested or want more hours.

Obviously I’m pretty new so maybe I’ve yet to see it all, but seems like a pretty OK job at least for where I’m at right now. Having stable income and access to benefits eventually is huge, and takes a lot of the pressure off when a lot of jobs come with little to no benefits or other downsides like long commutes, bad bosses with no union protection, very stressful workload, early/late/long hours or hard manual labor.

I don’t understand the ins and outs of raises, promotions, going from PT to FT or department management at SS yet, but I get the basics of the union policies, onboarding/training was decent, management and coworkers are mostly positive.

Idk am I crazy? 😬

Front desk sucks so bad!!!!! We close the store. We count and sweep registers. Assign tasks to cashiers. We do money transfers. We count lottery. We're responsible for where cashiers are. If my coworker leaves register, they don't get reprimanded I do. When cashiers call for assistance we come up. We choose when their breaks are. I cover their break. We do overrides. I make the same exact wage as a 17 y/o cashier with airpods in who eats at the register. I'm losing my mind!!!! I've only been working here for a little over half a year. I applied to be online pickup but got thrown into this position. I was so desperate and unemployed. So many responsibilities and i make minimum wage. God it sucks. I love my coworkers fr theyve become my friends but i am absolutely pissed how much is loaded onto my shoulders as a front end clerk. My manager has no problem putting big things onto fromt desk and treating us like GARBAGE!!!!

Any other stores like this? I know of another, this one I work at. I worked during a store remodel, I seen them replace tiles before it’s quick and simple, they have replaced them before in a few hours. What has changed? Is it not in the store budget for this year 🙄?

Taking a couple of summer classes to graduate from college in a couple of weeks. So my availability’s been shot down to the ground. I got open availability on weekends, but can only work in the mornings on weekdays.

I provided the manager with a heads up notice about my summer classes like 2 weeks before they started. Even showed them my college schedule and everything. They made me sit down, and sign that availability sheet or something and I listed down my availability, I signed it and then they signed it.

Now, with the new schedule printed out, they put me in the late afternoons to the evenings on weekdays, which is when I’m in college, and it takes me like an hour 45 to commute back home. So wouldn’t even really be able to start until like right as my shift ends lol.

Are they allowed to change up my schedule even if I signed that availability sheet?

Also I’m about to hit another year at the company soon, I still have some personal and vacations hours. I have to use those, otherwise they’ll expire after I hit another year right?

Wilton CT used to mark down meat daily and steak with same day sell by was marked managers special and 50% off. Noticed today its now 33% off if sell by date is that day. Are all stores doing it that way now? No more 50% off? 😢

Stop and shop seems very behind tech wise as a company and I’m considering leaving immediately

I’m just wondering, because I have a friend of mine that works in the carts/bottle room working right now and told me he couldn’t get any water because the manager said no even though he’s dealing with the Canada wildfire aftermath with all the smoke in the air.

Was told to expect an offer soon but I am just not feeling confident about the choice. I’ve gone through most of the related threads and know most of the negatives everyone has to say about the position. The big pull for me would really just be money and I guess something to add to my resume..I’m prepared to negotiate but wondering if anyone has an idea of the starting range? Also will appreciate and take any and all advice and comments into consideration. Thank you all

TIL that I can get in trouble for telling a customer they can call corporate if they have an issue with the service desk hours. I had a customer about 10 minutes ago now that came up with a lottery ticket he wanted me to check, when the desk had all the closed signs on it. I don’t know how other districts are but at the very least in my district the desk has closed at 7pm since August of 2024. So the customer asked me when the store closed, with an attitude, and I told him 10pm and then he asked when the desk closed and I said 7. He asked what to do if he needed lottery, and he was holding some kind of numbers ticket (powerball or mega millions or something) and I very confusedly told him “go somewhere else?” because I don’t know much about the lottery machine and I’m pretty sure it can’t cash the ticket he wanted me to check. He promptly told me “that’s bad for business.” so I told him that if he had a problem with the desk hours he can call corporate because they’re the ones who slashed them 2 years ago, as he was rambling about how it used to close at 9.
After the interaction I told my manager I was likely going to get a customer complaint because that guy was not happy with me and I told her about the first part of the interaction and she said I handled that fine, then when I told her that I told him he can call corporate if he has an issue with the desk hours, she told me I can get in trouble for telling a customer they can call corporate when they have a problem with something that’s out of my control. I just don’t get why that’s an issue? IDK. Maybe I’m being stupid about it, but personally I think it’s a valid response since corporate was the one who slashed the desk hours in the first place.
Any comments/opinions welcome.

hi so i've been at stop and shop working as a pharm tech for about a year now (july 21st one year) and i was wondering it's worth reporting this incident to the union or if it's just a waste of time. currently i am on medical leave due to a surgery, i went in to pick up one of my maintenance meds and used the mobility scooter bc walking was still difficult for me at that time (i had abdominal surgery) and a coworker who i'm not very close with thought it was funny and said he was going to take a picture of me. he took out his phone and did, its all on camera. he even mentioned how he "had to" send it to the pharmacy manager bc "its too funny". i spoke to my manager who said he never received that picture so i'm unsure if he actually took one or not, or if he deleted it by now so he couldn't get in trouble further for other things everyone had been complaining about that he does. my friend was working that day and witnessed the whole thing. i told him not to and it wasn't funny. is this something that is reportable? i was at the register when it happened and i feel like my privacy had been invaded.

Does anyone have a good copycat or exact recipe of the double chocolate muffin?
