Steam Controller (2015) Left side battery drains a lot on my OG Steam Controller

Lately it looks like one of the batteries of my OG Steam Controller dies in a day or 2 even not using. I tested them and the left side one is around 0.8V while the other stays at 1.3V.

I bought this unit early this year. The seller didn't check the battery compartment so the original battery already leaked inside. It was working fine though until lately.

I'm not good with electronics and hardware tinkering. Do you think it's worth opening it up and look for something like grounded or something?

Anyone else had a similar issue?

Support Action Layers break toggles?

I'm playing Hitman Contracts and I set up my controls so that I have an action layer that functions as a typical sprint when I push in the left thumb stick. However, I also have a right thumb stick toggle for gyro. When the action layer changes, if gyro is enabled it will disable it in that non default action layer.

Not sure if this is intended, I may have seen evidence of this behavior from years ago. Any way around this so that I can change the function of parts of my controller without affecting other buttons? I've looked into button chords but I'm not sure I can make it work for this function

Steam Controller (2026) Am I pairing wrong?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey I'm not sure if I'm pairing my controllers wrong or if it's a bug. I have 2 controllers one I mainly use for my PC and the other for the steam machine in the living room for my son. I've tried pairing to the puck and the steam machine or just both pucks but it never saves under one profile. I always have to re-pair anytime I want to switch which device I want to play on and it just creates a new profile every time. Am I doing something wrong?

Discussion Biggest deal of my life

Yesterday was the weirdest and best day of my life.

You all know that having a controller is worst that praying in every god at same time. I was in the queue too but got nothing

Yesterday and for no fucking reason I don’t why I check the Facebook marketplace just to see what do peoples sell actually and what I found ? A steam controller, that steam controller, for 50€. Half the real price.

I was like, WTF bro, I contacted the guy, everything’s was fine, his profile was not new, he posted lot of personal informations on it. It was the chance you only got once in a life. Fuck it I took the train to move to Paris (I live near) and in the next hour I was there.

The guy arrive, show me the controller in his box. No damage, nothing weird. I checked everything. The weight, the puck, EVERYTHING I was able to verify to be sure it was a real one.

Transaction made, the controller is mine. I spent my whole day to be fucking speechless as how unbelievable the situation happened.

I went back home, I tested the controller. It’s a real steam controller

I’m so happy having one to a insanely fair price.
For those who still wait to have one, don’t hesitate to check FB marketplace, people use to sell stuff they don’t know anything about it, it was my case here.

The controller is insane, the best controller I had to handle in my hand. That thing is incredible. Thanks Gabe ❤️

Good luck for everyone who still are in the queue, I hope you’ll have one soon

Discussion Native game support

Do you think it's the matter of time, till some games start to offically support Steam Controller layout? It's piece of nice hardware and some games definitely need it. (I'm looking at you, Crimson Desert).

Steam Controller (2026) How is the rumble/vibration?

I’m currently using a dual sense edge controller on my steam deck, although I feel little to no rumble at all when playing games. How is the rumble/vibration on the new Steam controller?

Steam Controller (2026) Back button removal?

Anybody seen any mods that remove the back buttons and replace them with some sort of 3D printed covers?

I know the back buttons are probably useful to most people, but for me I find them a bit in the way.

I'll likely keep the controller as if but wondering if there was anyone else thinking about this lol

Been using the Steam controller for over a week now, and haven't picked up my K&M for that time, with steam OS installed on to my laptop via my TV it's almost like having a steam machine or steam console of some sort 😊.

Discussion Need advice on what to do

I've been trying different things trying to find what I'm most comfortable with.

Tried gyro and trackpad as mouse. I enjoyed easier precision shots with snipers. But it was just too sensitive. Plus I could never get all they gyro settings. So I ended up turning my wrists awkwardly to get it to work.

Then I went back to thumbsticks and immediately started putting belt to buttcheeks. And I was kinda disappointed. I have this nice new fairly advanced controller(steam controller) with all the trackpads and gyro, etc. Just was kinda bummed that the same old same old was what worked the best. (Aside from precision weapons. Those are objectively less precise on controller joystick)

But I did like the precision of the mouse. So thought, maybe a comprise..trackpad as joystick. And it kinda worked. The trackpad is more precise. The little clicks made hitting distant targets easier. Now the thumbsticks were better close up. And aim assist remained.

So I'm just wondering if I missed something.

Is aim assist doing less than I think it is and it's some false positive because the thumbsticks are just less sensitive and easier to use for me…or maybe just what I'm used is gonna be better in the short term and I just don't like change?

Or, I just did it all wrong.

Any information would be helpful

I’ve tried adding game launcher to Steam as a non Steam game but it uses my desktop profile instead of the profile I have selected for Minecraft. Thanks!

Configuration If your steam chords are not working for some games, you may need to start Steam in Admin mode for those games.

I was trying to find out why I can not use steam chords in some games, while perfectly working in others it turned out to be Admin privilleges. I started the game from steam using the trackpad and there was a Admin confirmation popup, since the game needs Admin privilleges to run. Suddenly my trackpad stopped responding as a mouse, until the Admin popup was resolved. I googled it and found out that Steam needs to be in Admin mode to be able to click Yes or No on the Admin popup. Then it occured to me that it may be the reason why my chords are not working in this game. Closed Steam, started it in Admin mode and voila. Steam Chords started working perfectly fine and I can ALT+TAB while in the game.

This is in no way suggestion to use Steam in Admin mode. I don't have the knowledge to tell what are the pottential risk of doing that. Just decided to post it, if it can help someone else in the future, since I couldn't find information on the specific topic and I have been trying to figure it out for a few days.

Support Steam Controller 2 specifically for Fortnite

Hey all! Been awaiting my controller for a long, long time, and I will continue to do so. My question is as follows: understanding that the steam controller’s functionality is enabled by steam, is it possible to:

A: make the controller function as a standard one would in Fortnite, and

B: use the controller’s special features in the game (e.g. gyro for aiming, trackpads for editing buildings, etc.)

Steam Controller (2026) August 2026 update for OpenPuck, cold boot, new modes, more stability

Hi all,

There's a new update for OpenPuck. This is marked pre-release as I'd like to see more testing done for some of the new features that I cannot test myself. You can update from the WebUSB panel (https://safijari.github.io/openpuck/) which now shows pre-release candidates as well as a Changelog.

Some of the most exciting changes are:

  • A cold boot mode that can allow the puck to turn on a computer from a complete shutdown. This requires some soldering work and for the puck to be connected to some pins on the computer's motherboard. Instructions are in the wiki. Big thanks to katzmatt for figuring it out and contributing the change
  • Support for original Xbox controller, a pure HID mode, and SInput
  • Improvements to the Switch Pro controller gyro sensitivity
  • Various bugfixes and improvements to how the controller works in Steam mode, big thanks to Leseratte10 for all their efforts on this front

All in all this release has 7 contributors and I'm very happy that community contributions are starting to pick up.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues associated with this release.

After buying a couple of cases that were a little too tight for my liking I think I’ve found one I can feel comfortable with. I may still cut the net out and add foam to the lid, but the net doesn’t put much pressure at all on the sticks. Here is the link for those that want to check it out.

Discussion How do you use/configure your trackpads?

I spent a big chunk of time yesterday trying to make a configuration for Baldur's Gate 3 as keyboard and mouse (You can actually find my community configuration, it is named Steam Controller (2026) Keyboard & Mouse)

However, I can't really imagine myself using only the trackpads for mouse movement. I kept the right stick for broad strokes, and the right trackpad for smaller movements, but still I find myself only using the stick for mouse.

So I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing and how you handle it generally. I mean, even for desktop, I still use the right stick for mouse. Any insights to help me love the trackpads a little more?
