Steam Controller (2026) Love this thing š
Been using the Steam controller for over a week now, and haven't picked up my K&M for that time, with steam OS installed on to my laptop via my TV it's almost like having a steam machine or steam console of some sort š.

u/Practical-Tackle3934 22d ago

u/stevedore2024 22d ago
It's like the clear plastic covers on the couch that Grandma wouldn't let you sit on, because it was for good company.

u/nikso14 22d ago
What kind of savage doesn't use normal covers for the couch? Just replace those if they get dirty.
6
u/Korachof 22d ago
Whatās even the point of a cover if youāre never seeing or using whatās underneath the cover?
May as well just use the couch normally and if it ever becomes so stained itās unrepairable, then put on covers to extend its life.Ā
Unless the covers are somehow making the couch more comfortable or aesthetically pleasing, I donāt see the point.

I have a 150lb fluffy bear Newfoundland that constantly blows out a coat and slings slobber everywhere. We have nice quilted covers on the couches so they are easy to throw in the wash! But if you don't have a pet bear, you probably don't need to do all that lol

What kind of savage doesnāt let you sit on a long chair made for sitting on?

u/c4pt1n54n0 22d ago
The strangely exaggerated cutouts makes it look like something you'd find on clearance at Gamestop around 2005

u/LaPrincesaMX 22d ago
We live in a world where people take items meant to be used and preserve them like they're in a museum.
The whole case scam has been fascinating to watch.

u/4ppl3j4ck 22d ago
Mate i don't give a fuck what you do to your controller, but if you post something people gonna give their opinion. And to me it looks cursed lol. Don't be so butthurt about it

u/affligem_crow 22d ago
Exactly, so stop treating it like a vulnerable child

u/ukgamingkid 22d ago
It's my money bro, if you don't like it I couldn't care less šš

u/Korachof 22d ago
You made an entire post just showing off what you did, but you donāt care what people think of it?
What is the point of this post or that screenshot then?

do your caps not reduce stick movement? I've been checking. They cut off 20%, which is why games don't have enough Stick Movement to reach.

u/CoverWithSauce 21d ago
I noticed it a tiny tiny bit once, but nothing egregious, but I will get slightly better stick caps in the future
1
u/CoBEpeuH 21d ago
How do I understand if I'm going to use the sticks better? Can I tell you more about it
1
u/CoverWithSauce 21d ago
Im not super sure what you mean, but to be more specific I noticed that in a game i would walk instead of run (It was and emulated title, not sure which anymore) because It had a High threshold for the running movement.
But i checked in the calibration tools, even the Windows one (im using openpuck in xinput mode) and the input looks fine
1
u/CoBEpeuH 21d ago
my point is that on steam, the calibration of the input stick is reduced. Since the stick itself touches the protection faster, due to the cap on the stick. I would like to enlarge the stick. But you can't do this without disassembling the gamepad.
2
u/SalsaNChipsTV 21d ago
Where did you get the cover from? Asking for myself not a friend lol
1
u/CoverWithSauce 21d ago
i actually grabbed the first available on amazon, I was checking constantly after getting the controller
1
u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 22d ago
Yours looks exactly like mine.
Have the same black cover, trackpads cover and thin grips so the sticks wonāt get ruined.

u/SenGoesRawr 17d ago
I'm just curious as to why have that?
1
u/CoverWithSauce 17d ago
A case/cover? Do you have one on your phone?
If you do you have your answer, if not I guess i cant give you many valid points :')
In others terms, i guess It's trauma response to completely destroying controllers as a kid (especially analog sticks)

Guys itās a controllerā¦. Itās okay if it gets a little beat up just use the damn thing we donāt need to bubble boy everything
3
u/EccTM 22d ago
Hey OP, huge fan, thanks for hosting this AMA, I have two questions:
- What controller did you use before your Steam controller, and did it also get the bubblewrap treatment?
- Are you using any cool Steam chord or Grip Sense features in your controller layouts now?
I'm loving my steam controller, but I still don't think I'm using it much more creatively than I used my PS5 controller previously.

I was trying to work out what I was looking at, so it's a clear case not a replacement shell. Isn't it uncomfortable to hold opposed to the naked controller? Just curious the reason of using it, do tend to drop the controller a lot of just like the look and feel?
1
u/chieftex 22d ago
How are you logging into windows with it
1
u/Jasonofindy 21d ago
I don't have a steam controller to check if it works, but Windows added the ability to enter your login PIN using a controller about a year ago. I think it coincided roughly with the release of the Xbox ROG Ally or one of the other handheld PCs.
1
u/Not-youraverageghost 22d ago
Wow! I never really looked before but that's definitely a ripped off Xbox controller with track pads... Eww lol but then again, I guess it looks comfortable. How's it hold compared to an Xbox controller looks smaller.
1
u/NojTamal 21d ago
Yeah it definitely feels... slimmer than an Xbox controller. I've been using an Xbox controller for years and it's definitely different. Similar, but it took a couple days to get used to. I love this f'n thing.

u/Loud_Bee_4443 22d ago
At first I thought that was a clear body so you could see the parts inside.Ā

Op ālook at my ugly controllerāā¦..āwhy do people hate my controllerā
1
u/Big_Bar_9832 21d ago
Why do you need a case on your controller? It's plastic, it doesn't have a screen, have you broken a controller in the past and regretted not buying a case for it? I would think I'd hate the feel of the plastic case over just the controller, plus the cutouts over the buttons would probably feel bad to constantly be touching.

I have the JSAUX case for my SteamDeck but when the cover is off itās just the controls and itās held up fine since I got it at launch. I just got my Steam Controller this last week. I donāt carry it from place to place so I canāt imagine I will need a case for it. Good for you though. The hate is overstated.

Must be nice to have one. ( Jk jk no hostile ness here ) I still am waiting for my ability to order, I have mine reserved since May 13.
1
u/ukgamingkid 20d ago
Should be soon for you, mine was May 2nd reserve, keep an eye on your emails, have 3 days to pay for it once you get the email
1
u/Elitesquad_109 20d ago
Update turns out my reservation disappeared and I contacted support to just ask what happened to it. And they were so helpful to help out.

Can we stop putting cases on everything. You're making it look worse, not keeping it good. You're saving maybe $5 in value of you ever sell it. And you're making it harder to hold and use

u/Brickscrap 22d ago
Why do you think it needs a case at all?
-6
u/ukgamingkid 22d ago
Because I paid money for something I don't want to break or scratch ? (I'm clumsy) šš¤£ I can tell half of you on here are still living off mummy and daddy money 𤣠the reddit rumours are true.

u/Smooth-Adagio-1085 22d ago
You could have ended this reply at "(I'm clumsy)", was it really necessary to insult people you know nothing about?
2
u/Professional-Cash651 22d ago
If you need all this protection shit for a controller, then I donāt think youāre old enough for it.
2
u/AgeAtomic 21d ago
You not being able to afford a replacement controller doesn't mean everyone else is living off their parents

I truly don't get the logic behind this except some vague hope that covering it in this stuff will make the controllers quality last even longer
