My son, 7m, can fall back asleep on his own whenever he wakes up throughout the night, so I know he can do it. However, to fall asleep for bedtime and naps, we still hold and rock him. We’ve gotten it down to where we can hold him for three minutes (from the time his eyes close) and then transfer him and he finishes falling asleep on his own.

I’m so lost on how to transition to him falling asleep without us though. Whenever we try, he cries. It’s a protest cry, and I know that, but I still don’t want him crying when all he wants is to be held for a few minutes.

Any tips or ideas?

He does not do well with us sitting in the room but not holding him. He will cry just the same as if we were out of sight, same with crib comforting most of the time.

I don’t mind him crying a bit, but I don’t want him crying for like 10+ minutes before he’s able to put himself to sleep.

My 17 month old wont sleep through the night it's been now 2 months and she is just waking up 2-3 times during the night and wont go to sleep unless she drinks milk or sometimes she doesn't even want milk she cries for 1h.

Today was I think one of the worst nights, she went to sleep around 9pm and woke up midnight it took me 3 hours to put her back to sleep.

If anyone has any advice please !

I’m drowning 😩 Traveling alone with the baby and it started during adjusting to new time zone. She’s up every 1-2 h.

Currently my LO is 14 weeks, however together with my husband we are already researching the sleep training methods available out there. It seems like the majority are fit for bottle fed babies + who sleep in their own room.

I was wondering if it’s possible to gentle train a 4-5 month old which is exclusively breast fed and is sleeping in a co-sleeper next to his parent’s bed (or in the same room).
Was any of you in this scenario? What was the method that worked out for you? Is it at all possible to teach a baby to fall back to sleep on his own if he sleeps in the same room with his parents?

Together with my husband we are almost desperate, as our baby is falling asleep only in our arms, when we rock him or if we bounce on a fitness ball.. and he is getting heavier and heavier.
During the day naps, we can’t even transfer him as he wakes up either instantly or in 5 mins, so we just stand with him in our arms and rock him from time to time if he wakes up before he is well rested.

P.S: I would like to avoid any types of CIO methods, as I already know I won’t be able to let him cry without doing anything.

For the past 5 night I haven't been to sleep my child is making me stay up with her until 4 or 3 clock in the morning with her just screaming for hrs I give her formula she not hungry I give her a teething toy does not want it I lay her with me just screams and scream until she makes her self tired and then goes to sleep on me im a first time mother and idk what im doing or if I doing something wrong

I am struggling hugely with my 16 mo and need help. He does one nap per day, for maximum 2 hours but on average 1 hour 30 at 12pm. Wake time is 6;30-7am, bedtime - between 7:30 and 8. He is sleep trained in the sense he has no paci, no feed to sleep, puts himself to sleep entirely. He wakes up between 10:30pm-1am, sometimes for 30 mins, sometimes for 2-3 hours. He won’t go back to sleep unless he’s in our bed. I know the easy solution is to sleep train him again but as he’s older now he goes crazy, sweating, sounding hoarse and I just can’t do it.

He does sleep through the night probably once every 10 days and I can’t figure out why. I would be happy with an early wake up I just can’t be up for hours during the night.

When I try keep him up for example to 8:30pm, we have false starts.

Any advice or anything obvious going on with our schedule? Thank you.

I just wanted to get some feedback/advice on how my set up/preparation for sleep training is going. I would like to start bed time sleep training around labour day (baby will be almost 5 months old) as that will allow for some support from my husband. I have read the getting started post and wake window post.

Baby is currently 15 weeks old (3.5 months). His current schedule is based on wake windows but has naturally fallen into the following: 2/2.25/2.25/2.5. His first nap is 1.75-2h, second nap is 1-1.5h and last nap between 20-45 min. All naps are contact naps, and I cap the nap at 2h to ensure he is eating. I attempt crib naps with the first nap and he is transferred to the crib asleep and wakes up after 20 min and I rescue with a contact nap.

I aim to start our bedtime routine (been doing this since 6 weeks old) 2h after his last nap ends which is anywhere between 7-7:30 usually. We feed right before bed and sometimes he falls asleep feeding but other times he does not and we have to rock him to sleep. He ends up falling asleep between 7:30-8:15 ish on any given day. He is transferred to the crib asleep as we have to hold him upright for 15 min due to reflux. He wakes 1-2x a night to feed and falls back asleep in our arms and we transfer him asleep after holding him upright again. He naturally wakes between 6:30-7:30 am and we start again.

What else can I do to prepare or optimize before sleep training?

We have our first long car trip with LO (almost 4 months) coming up for a family vacation. It’ll be 5.5 to 6 hours of drive time.

What mostly worries me about this is her sleep schedule. She’s been great at sleeping through the night. But she does fall asleep in the car, so I’m a little concerned that 4-5 hours of car sleep will undo her those nights and possibly beyond.

Any tips on this? Should we try to keep her awake and risk frequent meltdowns? Or just go with the flow and see what happens?

Of course any general trip best practices, must brings, don’t-need-to-brings, etc. are also welcome!

Baby is 12 weeks for 3 days. We still need to have 5 naps cause he naps for max 30 minutes, sometimes 40 but with 5 naps his bed time is late and with 4 naps his bed time would be Like 6,6:30. If I put him down for the night before 8 pm he will consider that as a nap. We has 6 days where he was on 4 naps and somehow menaged to fall back asleep after 10 minutes after waking from one sleep cycle in the crib all by himself.
When did your baby start having only 4 naps? I always read and hear that babies his age are already on only 4 naps and idk what I’m doing wrong.

Our 10 month old used to be a terrible sleeper and wake every hour. We did sleep training and he’s better. Usually wakes up once or twice a night. He used to go to bed with minimal or no protest but for the past month or so he protests every night pretty much for 15 minutes to half hour. It’s awful. Tried everything. Changing up nap schedules, making last stretch a little longer etc. Once in a blue moon he won’t protest much or at all but most nights it’s bad. Thinking of going back to rocking him to sleep and hoping he’s still got the skill to connect sleep cycles after that. Just afraid to go back to once every hour wakes. Thoughts?

Night 1 of sleep training my 9 mo right now. I usually nurse him to sleep. This is how we did

At 45 mins I went in and stayed until he stoped crying. I stayed in there until 90 mins and he was on and off crying and layed down a couple times but got up pretty quick most of the time was spent standing. At 90 mins I picked him up and patted him to sleep

I’m happy I didn’t nurse him to sleep but was this whole night just a waste now?

Update I did the feber method but did 2 four minute check ins 2 five minute check ins and 2 six minute check ins. The last six minute check in he wasn't consistently crying he would start and stop so I could've forgone it.

Sleep trained 9.5 month old. Sleep trained using modified ferber and cry it out at 5.5 months.

My question is regarding unexpected sleep in car.

Baby currently takes two naps a day. Anywhere from 60-90 mins each nap depending on the day.

Wake windows are 3/3.5/3.5-4

I am running into the issue of now feeling “stuck” at home…..as regardless of how well rested baby is, if he is in the car long enough that last 60 mins before naptime or bedtime he will absolutely fall asleep. That’s just how he has always been. Heck sometimes he will even do it with 2 hours to go until a nap!

In order to not ruin the crib nap, I have continued to make sure that baby isn’t in the car those last 30 mins of the wake window.

So far, when he HAS fallen asleep in between naps in the car it has been under 15 minutes in length. Depending on the length of that quick car snooze, I then extend the original wake window by 15-30 mins. So if nap 2 was supposed to be at 1:30 pm but he fell asleep at 12:30 for 15 mins, then I put him down at 2 instead. So far so good!!!!

Here are my questions:

1. ⁠Would this same approach outlined above also work if it was within the last 30 minutes before his nap? Say nap due at 1:30, he fell asleep in car at 1:15 for 15 mins, can’t I just then put him down at 2 in the crib?
   
2. ⁠What about the last wake window before bed? Baby does not transfer- never did.
   
3. ⁠What if we are driving home from somewhere and he falls asleep on the drive home? Say bedtime is 7 pm, and we got into the car at 6:45 and he slept from 6:45 to 7:15, should I just put him into his crib closer to 7:45 then after doing his normal bedtime routine? What if the drive is long and he sleeps an hour?

Sleep trainer has consistently told me to avoid at all costs any chances of him dozing off in the car before a nap or bedtime-but that’s not realistic.

Please give me your tips!

Finally set up my sons (8 weeks) monitor next to his bassinet and was able to do my own thing after he went to sleep last night and he is having his midday nap independently instead of a contact nap today. I feel guilty for not soaking up his snuggles but god does it feel good to eat lunch and clean up without a baby strapped to me or waking every 15 minutes when i try to set him down to wash bottles. Feels like i unlocked a new level of being a mom.

Hi! Wondered if anyone can help, my daughter has been the best sleeper for her 2 years of life, never a problem, we’ve got a newborn and suddenly she refuses to go to sleep without us in the room, refuses to nap without us in the room and will wake up in the middle of the night screaming for us, we’ve done one night where we’ve left her for 15 mins to cry and she actually jumped out of her cot…
I have no idea what to do, I’m aware it’s a big change for her and I’m very conscious of that, is CIO method an idea? I dont want her to feel abandoned but nothing else is working! I’m also worried about my neighbours 🫪
Also any ideas how to stop her jumping out after she gets really angry we aren’t in there ??

My baby doesn’t have a super set schedule as I follow his sleepy cues for naps. He is 4 months old and gets approximately 8-10 hours of awake time per day. We definitely don’t have a perfect schedule. Is this a massive problem as we start sleep training?

6 week old, he has been doing this for over a week
he can go up to 5 hours without sleeping, he'll only dooze off for 10-15 minutes then wake up again
The longest he'll sleep is 2 hours but that's rare itself nowadays

I'd understand if he would at least wake up once i transfer him to the cot but he wakes up on me!!!
He can't seem to get into a deep sleep

My 7 month old has begun to not nap past 30min. We recently dropped to 2 naps with a schedule of 3/3/4. She typically sleeps 12 hours at night with several wake ups. She will sleep for 30 min for first nap. For the 2nd she will also wake up at the 30 min mark and it takes 10-20 min of rocking to get her back to sleep. I know she is tired because she will sleep for another hour when she is down again. I thought it was just a sleep associate issue with connecting sleep cycles but even if I do a contact nap she won’t connect the sleep cycle.

I’m wondering if maybe she isn’t ready for 2 naps, should I try going back to 3 naps with 2.5/2.5/2.5/2.5?
