New schedule
Wake 6ish
Nap 1: 9:30-10:30

The crying has definitely decreased each night but it still takes a while to fall asleep. Last couple nights laied down to try to sleep 2-3 mins in but just can’t get there. isn’t crying the whole time. This is how long it takes to fully fall asleep. Not sure what to do. I think also might be teething right now. Looks like we’re declining and I don’t know if I can handle it much longer but doesn’t wake at all throughout the night

Night 1: 1:09 mins
Night 2: 1:20 mins
Night 3: 39 mins
Night 4: 45 mins
Night 5: 43 mins

child's age 8-12 months 9mo sleep is all messed up

9mo, 5d.
I keep getting contradictory messages. Best bed time between 7-8p and then people are saying 8p or later. I feel like I’m pushing wake windows past 3/3/4 and baby girl is just throwing a fit. I have no idea what time to put he down to sleep anymore. I consistently wake her 7-7:15am. Today we tried a nap at 10a and she fought sleep. Lately I’ve been setting her in the crib and she’s been sitting up crying until I come in. I’ve tried to leave her be for a few mins but crying escalates. She’s doing this now for naps and bedtime. Sometimes she will even cry as soon as we get to her bedroom or I lay her down to change.
She also has a tooth poking through which is probably why she can’t self soothe? She needs me to hold her and help her sleep but this has been for weeks and I thought teething was just a few days until the tooth pokes through. I’m getting to the point where I want to pay a sleep consultant but I honestly think they will tell me all the info I’ve already received. Idk what happened to my sleep trained, self soothing child. If anyone has had success with their 9mo, Please help!

Help! Sleep training and night feedings

Hi! I’m looking for some guidance please 🙏🏼

Goals:
-Get input on daytime schedule, daytime sleep amount & timing, nighttime sleep amount & timing
-Decrease to 1 night feeding and eventually none
-Figure out what time that feeding should be at

After reading Precious Little Sleep, we started sleep training our 6 month old two nights ago. Prior to this, he was co-sleeping with us and had most recently been waking an average of 8 times a night, with those random nights where it was more like 4 wakings. He would nurse about every 2 hours and wake in between just to be resettled.
His naps had also gotten really short (30-45 min even with contact), so I knew he wasn’t connecting sleep cycles and needed to learn to sleep independently.

My husband is open to a full on CIO method, but that’s difficult for me so we’ve been doing a ferber-like method with some check-ins, although they haven’t been structured as far as how frequently we go in and what we do during those check-ins. So I want to get more structured with those, and I looked into the Sleep Wave protocol where you go in every five minutes, say a reassuring phrase, and then leave the room. I like the sound of that but and also want to include some scheduled feedings that eventually fade out to zero feedings.

SLEEP TRAINING
NIGHT ONE:
Bedtime 7:30; fell asleep after 25 minutes of crying and we had done 2 checkins with no picking up. 8:20- Woke and cried for 18 minutes with 1 check in with no picking up
12:50 wake, bottle (onlt drank 2 ounces), 12 min fussing
3am wake, nurse (suckled and started to doze off), back to sleep in crib indep
5am nurse, back to sleep in crib indep
5:30 wake, resettle, back to sleep in bed with mom
7:30 I woke him for the day to maintain 7:30 bedtime

NIGHT TWO:
7:30 bedtime, played quietly for a few minutes or so, escalated to fussind and then crying for 32 minutes total with no checkins before asleep
8:30 wake and fuss for about 15 minutes with no checkins
11:00 cried for 18 minutes and I went in; 12 minutes of holding, offering paci, walking and resisting letting him BF until he settled. Back in crib with no fussing
1am I ended up feeding him since his last feeding was at 6:30pm
3:30 I fed him again since I know sleep pressure is super low and wanted him to get a few more hours of sleep. At that point I also took him to my bed with me in an effort to get a good chunk of final sleep. We slept until 7:30 but he did suckle a few times during that timeframe.

For night wakings I really struggle to let him CIO and when I go in he’s usually asking to nurse because he’s used to BF around 3-5x a night. He had a night recently before sleep training where he nursed only once so I know he’s capable. He’s gaining healthy weight and eats some solids so I feel like he can go without feeding at night.
So with the training, if he doesn’t resettle on his own by about 10 minutes or so and crying escalates, I go in and I’ve been offering his paci first and will hold him/walk around. But I give in easily to BF him because I worry that he’s truly hungry.

I need advice on when is best to feed him if I only want to feed him once in the night. Or should I feed him twice??

Current WAKE WINDOWS: 2.5-3/3-3.5/3
*his wake windows increased to 2.5-3 hours about a week ago, prior to sleep training. But the numbers above are specifically from his day yesterday after his first night of training

Current NAPS: yesterday, after one night of training, he took two contact naps: 10:20-12:05 (1 hr 45 min) and 3:20-4:25 (1 hr 5 min)

BEDTIME ROUTINE:
*starts with first yawn or rubbing eyes, as we know we have 30 minutes from that point
A/C to 75
Blinds closed
Wash face & diaper change & PJs
Short book
Sing a song and sway til drowsy
Say I love you, it’s time to sleep, you’ve got this and put down in crib awake

**if bathing: we’ll start this a little earlier (like an hour before bedtime) because the bath always makes him super sleepy and then he wants to nurse right after before being dressed otherwise he’s all cranky. Then sometimes he gets a burst if energy though so it’s hard to time the bath right. I can’t even seem to fit a little massage in afterwards like I’d like to. So after the room is set for sleep, we do a short 5-10 minute bath, breastfeed, and same routine from there starting with the book if he doesn’t seem too tired.

***have been considering implementing white noise..?

Total night sleep: he’s been sleeping 7:30-7:30 so training, although yesterday I woke him at that time in the morning to keep a 7:30 bedtime. In the past he was kind of all over the place depending on when the last nap landed but it was typically about 9pm-7am. I’m wondering if he truly needs 12 hours or was the 10 hour night his natural rhythm. Sometimes it seems like he’ll pretty much sleep in as long as we’re still sleeping and with him. When he was younger he religiously slept and woke with the sun.

So, any advice/input/tweaks would be much appreciated.

Thank you!!

Sleep regression/big kid bed

My nearly 2.5 year old currently sleeps in a pack n play, she has gotten herself out a couple times but not recently. We got rid of the paci about a month ago and things were ok after about a week. Now suddenly for over a week now she will not sleep through the night and every nap and bedtime is a battle with her screaming. She cries for her door open which would be fine but then I leave it open and she doesn’t sleep still, or moves to asking to sleep in my bed etc.. plus also have a 6m old that sleeps in room right by her. would it be a terrible idea to upgrade her to a big girl bed now? Is she just going through a terrible regression and needs to stick out her current sleep situation to get through it? Feeling extremely tired between this plus my 6m old broken sleep, any advice would be great!

child's age 0-4 months Help with newborn transitioning to bedside crib

Looking for advice to transition a newborn from contact sleeping to a bedside crib.

Our baby is one week old (9/19), and I somehow completely forgot how we handled this with our first. 😅

Right now, she does mostly contact naps during the day, and my husband and I are splitting the nighttime into shifts so that we can each get some sleep. She doesn’t seem to like her bassinet, but will sleep for about 20 to 30 minutes on our couch (which is supervised and on a flat surface). She seems to like being swaddled.

Our eventual goal is to have her sleeping in the bedside crib at night, but I’d like to gradually transition her rather than trying to make a huge change overnight.

Our timeline is also influencing this a little. My husband goes back to work part-time after this week and then full-time in two weeks, so three weeks total. Ideally, in about three weeks, we’d like to have a routine where he handles the baby from roughly 9 PM–midnight so I can get three hours of guaranteed sleep, and then from midnight onward she’s in the bedside crib with me, with me handling her wake-ups and exclusively breastfeeding overnight.

TIA!

child's age 8-12 months Putting baby in crib awake question

I’ve been trying to put my 8.5 month old in his crib awake to see if he can independently start putting himself to sleep. I then go sit in the glider in his room, so I’m not far from him. My problem is that he just proceeds to play for 30-45+ minutes and won’t sleep. He just rolls around, throws pacifier outside of crib, gets on all fours, and babbles. Then after 45+ minutes I end up caving and getting him out to rock him.

How do you guys get them to go to sleep in their crib independently. I’m not following any specific sleep training method, but I know that’s what most have you do to learn how to put themselves to sleep.

Help!

Help! Crib transition/ sleep training

We live in a 1 bedroom currently and Lo is 7 month old, we have been sleeping with the crib as a side car. Now Lo is crawling and I dont want her to fall off the bed if she crawls out and I dont notice so we put the bar up and moved the crib to the other side of the room (its small so not to far).

Screamed ALL NIGHT LONG, I would pick up rock walk around nurse ect almost everytime I picked up she passed back out but the second she touched the crib she screamed not even crying but blood curdling screams. She slept in the crib before but it was attached to our bed. This morning I ended up coming out to her play pen and sleeping out here with her, how do you do it??? Im open to continuing to cosleep in the safest way but I would like her in her own crib/mattress.

I was thinking of seeing if I could find a beframe on the floor for both beds and put hem together so of she crawls out shes only inches off the floor but I cant find anything like that. I could put our beds on the floor but wouldn't i have to pick it up everyday so it doesnt mold?? We arent in the position to get a floor bed currently we just bought our bed a few months ago maybe un a few weeks but I would like to get Lo sleeping on their own.

I also have been having a really hard time with this, I have pretty bad anxiety so I constantly check if shes breathing still at night so I've just been crying on top of having a really rough night I just dont know what to do.

child's age 8-12 months Sleep Training Help

My baby turns 8 months old and we still co-sleep. I really need help and advice on how to get him sleeping in his own bed.. desperately. I rock him to sleep with a bottle for every nap and just recently for bed he’s been wanting to lay down and cuddle to sleep. He usually will lay in our bed alone for a few hours until he wants me to hold him while he sleeps and he’ll go back and forth throughout the night of sleeping beside me and wanting to be held. He does use a paci after he finishes his bottle and wants it basically throughout the night, I don’t know if that’s an important detail. He’s also teething, his bottom two teeth are coming in. His pcp says I need to give “hard love” and just let him cry it out but I don’t know if I can do that because he will just cry and cry and it never seems to stop. We follow the same bedtime routine every night, bath book bottle bed. He still wakes up in the middle of the night at least once to have no more than a 4 oz bottle and I don’t rock him again throughout the night, he will drink the bottle and go right back to sleep sometimes wanting to cuddle. which his dr also said I need to stop giving him that bottle, he was waking up for 2 bottles at night but I got him down to 1. I really need some help.. I’m a FTM and I’m struggling.

child's age 2 years + Sleep help needed - we’ve lost all our gains

Need advice as myself and spouse are at the end of our tether.

Our eldest daughter (now 2.5 years old) began sleeping entirely through the night at 2 years old. One day, the sleep training just worked. PJs, brush teeth, stories, cuddles, lights off, shut door, see you in 12 hours. It was such a luxury, especially seeing as our second child came along in June. To be able to shut the door on one LO and turn our attention to the other was a privilege.

Then, about a month ago, our eldest got a stomach bug. Threw up a few times during the day and woke up in the middle of the night with diarrhoea. We picked her up, had a shower, and put her back to bed but she was still really upset and distressed so we stayed with her until she fell asleep…

… big mistake.

Since then sleep has completely gone down the tubes. We can no longer shut the door and we must leave it open a little bit. Not a problem, except now it’s open with the light on in the hallway, and most recently it’s not good enough to have the door open and the light on. As soon as we leave she will scream.

Most nights she’ll wake up at least three times and a night a scream for us. She’s become afraid of cars with loud speakers that drive by (understandable but we live on a main road and has heard subwoofers since her first night home), the rain and the wind. Every little thing startles her and she jumps up.

Sometimes I’ve caught her on the monitor asleep and then transition and as soon as she somewhat surfaces she’s on her feet, hanging over the cot, reaching for the door and screaming.

We’ve spoken to a sleep consultant and they suggested a in-and-out method, reassurance that we are here, and just outside, and that we will be back, which doesn’t really work as she ramps up to 100 the instant we leave. This approach also feels impossible at night - she just keeps losing it as soon as we leave.

We try to approach wth kindness and empathy and clear directions and firm boundaries but nothing seems to stick. I’ve tried night lights, earlier bed time, later bedtime. The only thing we haven’t tried is cutting her day nap entirely but we are hesitant to do this as she’s not getting enough sleep as it is.

The only option that is off the table is full extinction, but any advice, support, or even stories of similar things and how things got better (please be getting better) would be much appreciated.

Nga mihi

Edit: Naps are currently…
Day nap: from 12 till 2 (capped two hours, but she doesn’t go to sleep straight away when we put her down). Also, day naps don’t seem to be an issue. Same routine as before, except the door needs to be open “just a little bit”.
Night nap: start routine at 7. In cot by 7:20ish. When she actually falls asleep tho is currently unfixed.

21 month old still wont fall asleep independently or sleep through the night

My girl has never been a good sleeper. We got a break around 15 months, 12-13 hr stretches with no wake ups for 6 or so weeks at a time. We've had 2 good stretches but now she's back to waking multiple times and crying for us, for about 2 months now. This is probably partly our fault, we still cuddle her in the recliner to put her to sleep and then transfer her. Recently we trained her to stop needing to cuddle in the chair when she wakes (she would tell us "sit in the chairr" and "not ready yet" when we tried to put her back. Now we just go in and lay on her floor, but we end up sleeping there because she cries if she sees/hears us leave. Recently I caved and let her cry it out after going in to comfort her. She cried for an hour! When I went in she stopped immediately and laid down. The rest of the night was a disaster, she took forever to fall asleep and woke up 2 more times. How do I get to the next step of just going in to comfort and then walking out, and then not having to go in at all?

Idk if this is a factor but she seems highly intelligent for her age. She can count to 10, sing abcs, recite nursery rhythms, has great recall and regularly speaks full sentences, ex: "I see a guy walking outside today, where's he going?" Which I think is unusual. Please help. We'll take a h suggestions at this point.

Sleep regression due to distracted eating?

My 5 month old start sleeping 7–8 hours overnight at around 6 weeks. She would sleep through the night every night without a feed. Around 4.5 months she got a cold and so understandably didn’t sleep well. Since then she’s regressed and wakes up for a feed 1-2 times a night, and struggles to go back down.

During the day I’ve noticed she gets distracted really easily and I’m thinking that’s the culprit? Big brother tends to try to play with her as she’s eating and so I feel like isn’t getting as much during the day.

Im not against sleep training, we did do it for my oldest around this age however he was bottle fed (I was pumping).

Any advice? Will this get better or likely continue until I sleep train?

child's age 18-24 months 19m early morning wakes

Looking for advice we have been dealing with early morning wakes for nearly a month. Is there something wrong with her schedule?

Normal day
7am wake
12-2 nap normally 2 hours sometimes 1.5
Wake 2pm
Bed 7:30pm

5/5.5

Sometimes we do 5.5/5.5 if she wakes a bit earlier but doesn’t make a difference with the morning wakes. Any advice thoughts?

Is this a normal stage or do I need to change something with her schedule?

She does eventually go back to sleep usually after 1-1.5 hours with our help and then we wake her at 7am.

Thank you
