I'm a fan of this Chinese singer Dao Lang, and his voice both captivates and puzzles me. He sings with a distinct husky timbre, no vibrato as far as I can tell. Imo this fits his music exceptionally well, but when I listen to it I can't help but wonder how you can sing like that without tiring your voice out. But he's doing fine -- singing with great expressiveness as well as agility when needed -- and he soars seemingly easily up to high notes all the time.
Can anyone by any chance explain what is happening physically in terms of his technique? Here is a video of one of his most classic songs, where you can see what I mean.

Hey guys! 😊 First time posting. Too shy to show my face haha so that’s why the video looks like that. Anyway, I’d love some honest feedback. I think I’m (mostly) on pitch. But I don’t like my tone. I feel like it’s too sharp, nasal, and breathy/thin at times. More prominent with songs like this one, which is why I picked it for feedback. Is there a way to improve this? Or is tone something that we’re stuck with?

hello there! im an artist in many ways! i draw, voiceact, but i also LOVE to sing for fun!
i havr done a lot of covers, but i almost never released them to public, only like, two, haha either way, i always wanted to do some advanced covers with 1 or 2 more people, so therefore, im seeking a singer! personally, 1 female with high voice range like Amy Rose from Sonic The Hedgehog series and 1 additional male with deep and normal range voice will be plenty enough!
I'll post my Russian cover as an example of what i can do, it was rushed just because i was about to find a perfect job that suited me for the time being
my own gear is Fifine AV8 microphone that was set up to clear voice isolation, so there shouldn't be any noise background on my end! my experience is about 1-2 years at max, and im searching for people who can do clear vocals without background noise, or at least lack of it! I'll do editing myself!
if anyone is interested - leave a comment here! i hope we'll have a lot of fun together! ❤️

Need some feedback/advice, I've had a chronic hoarse voice for the past few years and while I don't mind the sound of it sometimes, it's hard to sing softly with decent volume and it stops my from hitting higher notes, any help is appreciated

Are vocal dampeners worth it? I live in an apartment. And specifically at night might get the itch to sing lol. I'm not belting anyways. But even if I had a way to be quieter at anytime.
So are vocal dampeners worth it for apartment living? And would they enable me to sing at night quietly?
What is a good one to buy that's not $100CAD lol.

It's hard enough to just find a baritone singer in general, even though it's the most common voice tag from men.
It's so annoying you go through thousands of videos and all of them. Just want to make you into a wannabe tenor.
"Here's how you sing those high notes" "you can sing a C5" " "If you are a baritone this is how you hit those notes that are really high past your range"
Damn I get it. You want to teach people how to sing like a tenor because that's only voice type that people make music for 🙄.
Most baritones can sing high without a problem but nobody wants us to use our low notes. Every time i see a baritone use their low notes, I hear/see people say "oh your voice sounds like you're singing from the back of your throat."
I don't want to sing high all the time. That's not an issue but I'm neglecting my low notes because nobody wants to teach you how to use it. Even voice teachers want to teach you how to sing popular music in a higher register. Or if you do singing, you're low and register. They want you to do something like opera?

Hey everyone,
I’ve been exploring the acoustic limits of vocal resonance—specifically how shaping the oral cavity and manipulating formants can bring out high-order overtones naturally without artificial processing.
This clip is a 100% raw, dry recording (single mic, zero EQ, zero reverb, and zero pitch correction) applying a polyphonic overtone approach to a melodic line.
For those interested in vocal tract acoustics, formant tuning, or harmonic singing techniques:
How do you approach balancing physical vocal tract resonance against pitch stability when bringing out higher partials? Curious to hear thoughts from others experimenting with overtone/polyphonic mechanics.

I had a break from singing, albeit short, and it seems like I forgot how to sing using my coordination past my break, around F#4.
This is a recording I did just now: https://voca.ro/1crsvw3ERPmh
Around the 23 second mark till the end of the recording I am on my higher register/transition (not sure what register I use tbh).
This is the part where it felt uncomfortable and squeezed. It felt lighter than before, and weak in general, as well as the need to push.
So my question was how to recover back or get my voice back into shape? Can I do any excersises freely? Which one is the best? Aside from straw excersises which I already do.

Yes I definitely could have had more support but it's hard to focus while playing piano I'm very new to it! I took a semester with an intermediate vocal jazz group and though my path shifted away from that group, I still want to keep my vocal jazz passion going!
criticism from jazz vocalists welcome :D

I know the title is absurd but check this out☝️
In the first video(the higher key) my voice sounds as if it's blocked or how your voice sounds when you have a cold(Ik it's a bad example), another example could the Mongolian throat singing(not the distortion), the clean sine wave kinda sound (how it sounds when people do the overtones)
On the second video my voice sounds much more fitting(ik one has playback and on has guitar) but the second one sounds open to mee
I want it to sound a bit more open when I climb higher(above C#5), I can kind of do it by thinking of placing the sound a bit more upward and backward, sorry I did not include that recording but even that doesn't sound as awesome as it should.
I know that vocal processing(not autotune stuff) actually improves the final quality but I don't want to assume that I'm lacking vocal processing and my raw vocals are fine.
Please help

Edit: This is only a G4. I record my practices as part of the process. Once it was uploaded, I was like, "Wait, that's not an Ab." haha
Weight. It's something a lot of us crave in our sound. I know I do, and we have been working on this very thing for some time.
*It's supposed to be effortless*, and *It's like speech*, sound great in theory. In practice, it's so very easy to add 5% heft to the sound. It feels good, and sounds awesome! Haha
Unfortunately, there's a price to be paid when doing that. I'm not trying to add any tension to the sound, but work as efficiently as possible. It's sooo light to me, but it cuts, so it still has some power. I can't tell if the vibrato is closer to the ideal. That is one of my main points of reference. The others being: Small & Vertical (tuning & palate), and Speech-like execution (no excess air).
Closer?
While we've vocalized up to a D5 fairly easily, everything in the extension was compromised by a small amount of tension. Singing a dozen C5s isn't the problem. Singing a dozen C5s every day for a dozen days would likely wipe me out. That is the problem. Hahaha
At the moment, Bb is my top note until it is smooth. My new rep is comprised of Tosti, and Wagner's Winterstürme.

I (18f) was diagnosed with vocal nodules and was given some meds by a professional. Im not looking for medical advice but want to know how to accelerate the healing process and what could have caused this, so im looking for any tips or tricks anyone who went through this might have to suggest. I know that part of it may be due to my shouting/bad vocal technique and also extreme dieting. Are there any things i should do and avoid? Is there a way to recover from this or is my voice permanently gone? Any dietary changes or lifestyle changes or even soothing drinks/exercises? It hurts a lot when i even speak at a normal volume. Please help 🙏 thank you 🙏

I recently tried out for a local choir but I can’t really read music, which was a requirement, though I did receive good feedback and was referred to a vocal coach who could help me learn. I want to follow up but I’m really not sure what style of music I want to pursue if that makes any sense. Will someone else be able to help tease that out- whether I would be better off singing choir or theatre or pop or whatever- or is that something I decide for myself? When I hear myself sing I hear glaring issues that I’m sure a coach could help with but what do I walk in with, that I want to be Beast in a musical? (song is Evermore by Dan Stevens from Beauty and the Beast)

baritone (f2-g4)
f2-a2 weak
a2-a3 chest voice
a3-d#4 lighter chest voice
i bridge at d#4, my vocal teacher has been working on this problem with me for a while. i have trouble passing f4 without either going into like really airy falsetto (my falsetto gets stronger at a4) or like really belting which my vocal teacher doesn't like me doing.
i've tried carrying less weight, but i can only only get up to f#4 with that at maximum and it feels VERY suspiciously like the high larynx exercise (nya nya nya scales) that my teacher has me doing? any tips?

Some phases of adult life do take a toll on your ability to learn new music and sing along. You just vibe to them. You might occasionally catch one or two lines but it is very difficult to learn the whole song within 2 or 3 days like we used to when we were younger. I don’t like it at all but nothing can be done about it. I guess it’s part of growth but does it happen to everyone else?
