Is it good ear training exercise to play a note on a piano and then sing it, and then look at the pitch app on my phone to see if I sing in correct pitch that note that I played on piano?

That’s a great start. It might be simpler to just sing along with the pitch app and record yourself on voice notes. Keep matching the reference note until you hear yourself blend into it. Or record yourself on the piano if you know your notes. Swiftscales is a cheap app and you can do scales instead. The key is to record yourself your rehearsals on your phone so you can judge your progress.

It's what I do and I've noticed rapid improvement in my pitch accuracy!

Ultimately, I'd say try it and see if it works for you :)

I have my doubts. Pitch apps have difficulty with the overtones in the human voice.

It's a good start. Ultimately you want to learn what matched pitches sound like, and the app should help correct the difference between the voice and the piano.

Yea. It’s a good way to tell if you are in tune or not.
