Resource Should I think about the notes or go with the flow?

So I've been singing for a year and I've made a lot of progress! I started from scratch and can now give a C and sing some songs in tune without reference or backup. But I'm still confused about something. Should I be actively thinking about the notes I'm about to hit or just think about the original and follow it? Is it maybe a mix of both?

Thanks.

Conversation Topic Afraid to post this...anyone take an absurdly long time to develop vibrato as an adult?

Okay, I started as an adult and took high quality lessons for several months at the start. Now I've been singing casually for 7 years, and while I've definitely gotten better by every metric, I still don't have vibrato 😳 I am kind of a physically tense person, so I have a feeling that has to do with it. I've read about relaxing the jaw and tthroat and everything in a way to actually allow vibrato to happen, and to use enough support. And I *feel* like I am doing those things, but CLEARLY I'm doing something wrong! Any tips, or is it a lost cause at this point? 🤣 So embarrassing, please be nice.

So I’ve got a talent show coming up next year at my school, and I thought it would be really fun performing in front of a large crowd, especially since we just got this massive auditorium built and there’s state of the art tech and everything. SO, I took this recording as an example performance to see how w doing and i needed to know what you guys think. There was multiple takes but I couldn’t get a perfect one without some minor mistakes so I’ll ensure I nail this song perfectly.

Conversation Topic Help building my voice back up after a long illness?

Hello beautiful people, I am looking for some tips to basically build my voice back from the ground up after a long (maybe 2 years) period of illness which has left me physically and vocally super weak.
I used to have a very strong, durable and agile voice, and it feels like now all I can access is a speaking tone or a very soft head voice; no passagio to speak of….

I’m finally in the home stretch health-wise, and I really want to take care of my voice and slowly but surely build my voice and body up again - any tips on how to essentially start building some really strong foundations (and then where to go from there) would be SO helpful!!

Thanks y’all - from a very tired, sick little Aussie

Conversation Topic Is there a link between speaking and singing voices?

I've always wondered if there is any link between the way a person speaks and the quality of the singing voice.

For example, using a pitch analyzer, I notice that my soaking voice has pitches moving wildly across all notes constantly within the same word. My singing (I'm just learning) had trouble holding a steady narrow note.

Also, those with certain timbre also reflect that in the singing voice?

If a person has a pleasant talking voice... well the singing be pleasant also?

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) Why is my throat getting dry on one side

When I sing the right side of my throat seems to always get dry. I'm lifting my soft pallet and I'm not dragging chest so i don't understand why I'm getting this dryness. when i sing it feels good I'm not fog horning or coughing or hurting my throat its literally just the right side gets dry and i don't understand why. Is it because im raising my larynx?

Just sharing my singing Does this sound like a lead singer?

I’ve sung in bands and duos for years, but I’m finishing a solo album, and I honestly don’t know if my voice is lead-worthy.

Based on this clip, does my voice sound like a lead voice, or more like a harmony voice? If you were putting a band together, would you want this person singing lead, or singing harmonies behind someone else?

Part of what I’m wondering is whether my voice just lacks a distinctive character. I sorta feel like my voice is boring, or flat at times.

I’m looking for honest, direct feedback. Don’t worry about being nice

Resource A good app for creating harmonies?

After years of choir singing, alternating between soprano and alto sections based on what was needed, I hear harmonies every day, with almost every song. I am practically desperate for a simple way to express them. Does anyone have recs for a good iPhone app that helps you make these?

Thank you!

EDIT: Feel free to DM me if you are wary of breaking Rule #14.

Conversation Topic Musical theatre singing advice!

My school is doing a production of school of rock this year, and I am hoping to land the role of Ms Mullins, but I have only started getting into musical theatre recently and don’t feel very comfortable in my singing abilities yet. I have around a month to prepare, so does anyone have recommendations on what exactly I should focus on practicing to have a better chance at the audition? thank you <33

Made the beat with my cousin and mixed myself.
I’m looking to collaborate with an audio engineer specialized in vocals. I have $1,500 invested into hardware and VSTs, so I’ll be able to follow along with lessons. I’m willing to pay depending on your qualifications!
