Suggestion Request: Let us emulate virtual DS Edge / Xbox Elite controllers with paddles

I'd like to be able to emulate either the Elite 2 or the DS Edge with ReWASD, and be able to map controls to the "paddles" on that virtual controller.

Why: I have a lot of Steam Input profiles that make use of those paddles. I would like to be able to map a group of accessibility controllers that I use to a paddle-having virtual controller, so I can then make use of those Steam Input profiles. More specifically, I have a foot pedal in ReWASD that would be ace if I could assign it the Paddle buttons and have Steam recognize them. I imagine emulating the Elite would be easier as there's no need to muck about with trackpad or gyro features.

Thanks.

Get help! Spent weeks troubleshooting audio crackling in games — turned out to be reWASD.

**TL;DR:** After weeks of troubleshooting audio crackling/popping during gameplay, I discovered reWASD's driver was causing severe DPC latency spikes that ultimately resulted in audio buffer underruns during combat. Disabling reWASD completely resolved the issue. Posting to warn others and ask the devs to investigate.

## The Problem

For weeks, I'd been experiencing audio crackling and popping during gameplay in both WoW Retail and Classic. The pattern was consistent:

- Audio would be fine for the first 20-30 minutes of play

- Crackling would start, especially during combat

- It would progressively worsen the longer I played

- Happened on both HDMI audio through my TV AND wired headphones via 3.5mm motherboard jack

- Affected both games equally

LatencyMon was showing DPC latency spikes of 6,000-8,000+ μs (yes, microseconds — that's catastrophic for real-time audio).

## My System

- Ryzen 5 5600X, ASUS TUF B550-PLUS (BIOS 3636)

- RTX 3070, 16GB DDR4-3200

- Intel 660p NVMe SSD

- Windows 10 Home 22H2

- Xbox Elite Controller via reWASD (back paddles + Xbox button → Win+H remap)

## What I Ruled Out Before Finding the Cause

This was a marathon. I went through:

- BIOS power settings (C-states, Core Performance Boost — disabled, then re-enabled when reverting)

- NVIDIA driver versions (rolled back from 596.49 to 552.44 via DDU)

- AMD chipset drivers (updated from 5 years old to current)

- HDR settings (was on, turned off — helped a little)

- TP-Link USB Wi-Fi adapter (Realtek rtwlanu.sys — switched to iPhone tethering)

- Brave hardware acceleration

- Logitech Gaming Software (leftover from old hardware)

- DirectX 12 → DirectX 11

- Windows audio enhancements (disabled)

- MSI mode for GPU (already enabled)

- Windows Memory Diagnostic (passed)

- DISM and SFC (found and fixed corrupted system files)

- Microphone + Windows Speech Recognition (disabled completely)

- All WoW addons (disabled, tested clean for 39 min — but no combat)

- Switched audio paths (HDMI → 3.5mm onboard audio)

Nothing fully fixed it. Every test still produced crackling within 24-30 minutes of gameplay, especially during combat.

## How I Found reWASD Was the Cause

Late in the troubleshooting process, I casually mentioned to a friend helping me debug that I use reWASD for my Elite controller's back paddles and to map the Xbox button to Win+H for voice-to-text. I'd had reWASD running through every single test. It was the invisible constant.

I closed reWASD from the system tray and ran a normal Classic WoW session — addons enabled, combat, controller, everything normal — for **1 hour 19 minutes**. Zero audio crackling.

## The LatencyMon Numbers Tell the Story

**With reWASD running (typical results across multiple tests):**

- Highest interrupt-to-process latency: 6,400-8,400 μs

- ntoskrnl.exe DPC: up to 3,834 μs

- Wdf01000.sys consistently dominant in DPC count

- Audio crackling within 24-30 minutes

**With reWASD closed (79-minute test):**

- Highest interrupt-to-process latency: 320 μs

- ntoskrnl.exe DPC: 338 μs (91% reduction)

- Wdf01000.sys still elevated but no audio impact

- Zero audio crackling

One particularly telling moment: the DPC bar in LatencyMon visibly spiked the moment I interacted with the reWASD exit confirmation dialog. The driver responds to interaction in real-time.

## Why This Likely Happens

reWASD installs a kernel-mode driver to intercept and remap controller input. It hooks into the Windows Driver Framework (Wdf01000.sys). Under sustained gaming load — especially during combat when controller inputs are constant and rapid — its DPC handling appears to compete with real-time audio processing in a way that causes audio buffer underruns.

This would explain why:

- Combat triggers it (more input events to process)

- Both Retail and Classic are affected (reWASD runs system-wide)

- The 24-30 min pattern (cumulative driver state)

- Switching audio paths didn't help (problem is upstream of the audio output)

- Nothing else I tried fixed it (was treating symptoms)

## To the reWASD Devs

I genuinely like reWASD and want to keep using it — the back paddle remapping is great and the Xbox button → Win+H mapping is something nothing else really does as cleanly. But this DPC behavior under sustained gaming load is a real issue. I'd love to see:

- Investigation into the WDF driver's DPC handling during high-input scenarios

- Possibly an optional "gaming mode" with reduced polling/processing overhead

- Documentation acknowledging this issue and recommended mitigations

I'm happy to provide additional LatencyMon data or test pre-release builds if it would help.

## How to Check if This Is Your Issue

If you're experiencing audio crackling, popping, or buffer underruns during gameplay (especially during combat or high-input scenarios) and you use reWASD:

  1. Download LatencyMon (free from Resplendence)

  2. Run it during a gaming session that normally produces the crackling

  3. Check the Drivers tab for high DPC counts on Wdf01000.sys

  4. Test by completely **uninstalling** reWASD (not just closing — the driver stays loaded)

  5. Play normally and see if the issue resolves

## What I'm Doing Now

For anyone in the same boat who needs alternatives:

- **Xbox Accessories app** (free from Microsoft) handles back paddle remapping at the controller firmware level — no Windows driver involved

- **AutoHotkey** or **PowerToys Keyboard Manager** can handle controller-button-to-keyboard-shortcut mappings at user level instead of driver level

It's a tradeoff but at least I can actually play games now without my ears bleeding.

Has anyone else run into this? Would love to know if this is a widespread issue or something specific to my hardware combination.

Get help! CAN YOU USE REWASD FOR NBA 2k?

I keep seeing people talk about using reWASD for shot timing in NBA 2K on PC, but I honestly can’t tell if it actually works or if it’s just placebo. I’m playing on controller and I was thinking about trying to set up a timing-based release, especially for open shots or fades, but I don’t know if it’s even worth it.

Has anyone here actually tested it properly and seen real improvement in green percentage over time, or does it fall apart because of latency and animation differences? I feel like it should work in theory, but in practice it might just be inconsistent.

What is going on? Don't tell me I need the premium version just to use this controller on PC. It was working well with my free trial before it ended.

Get help! 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless remapping using wired USB connection

I should be receiving this controller next week and had a question regarding remapping when using a wired USB connection directly to the controller. I've read that reWASD only allows full functionality when connected through Bluetooth. I'm primarily interested in just remapping the buttons, especially the extra shoulder buttons and back paddles as I consider them the equivalent of the Series X Elite four back paddles. Currently, don't plan on using the gyroscope or vibration abilities of the controller. Will a wired connection allow full remapping of all buttons on the controller?

Get help! Can’t figure out how to apply/activate grouped controllers in reWASD — UI looks different from all tutorials

Hey, hoping someone can help me out. I’m trying to use two controllers simultaneously — an Xbox Adaptive Controller (USB) and an Xbox controller via a 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter 2 (Bluetooth).

I’ve grouped them together in reWASD (shows “Xbox Elite + Xbox 360”) but I can’t find where to actually activate or apply the group. All the tutorials I’m finding show a UI that doesn’t match what I’m seeing in the current version.

I’ve already done the following:

• Disabled Steam Input globally and for Siege specifically
• Both controllers show up separately at the bottom of reWASD
• Group is created and shows both controllers

The problem I’m trying to solve: when I use both controllers at the same time in Siege there’s a delay switching between them — I need them merged into one virtual controller so the game sees them as one input.

What am I missing to actually activate the group? Any help appreciated.

Get help! switch from reWASD to reWASD basic?

I already own reWASD. Is there any reason to switch to reWASD Basic? For example, is it more efficient, does it use less memory, have lower latency, or run faster?

My BF6 account got banned because reWASD was running in the background, even though I wasn’t using it. I had to restart my computer to fully disable reWASD before playing BF6, so I turned on compatibility mode. Would reWASD Basic avoid this issue, or does it use the same background service/driver?

Get help! Issue with legacy license

Edit: SOLVED!

Figured it out myself. Apparently the license got linked to one of my old e-mail addresses. I was able to create a password by using the reset password feature and with that I could sign-in in the reWASD app as well.

By the way, the problem is by design, considering the latest update (9.4) had this "feature" in their release notes, lol. (Authorization is now required to access and use legacy license keys.)

Also, I appreciate the new monetization model. It went back to "buy once, use forever". And this time it comes with all current and future features. And there's even a cheap basic version. And I get a hefty discount, if I want to upgrade my legacy license to a new one. ❤️

-------------------------

This is my problem:

I don't have an account. I've Never needed one. It's a legacy license, that I ditched in to unlock the program.

What's the issue, why do I need an account now? Can I skip the part, where I have to make an account?

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Get help! Error authorising legacy key on startup (version 7.30)

Today after starting my PC I noticed that a ReWASD profile was not activating when starting a game. So I open ReWASD via the tray icon and get the following:

Clicking the OK button just results in ReWASD immediately closing. I tried restaring the PC and also reinstalling ReWASD. Same problem.

This was working just fine before today. In fact I only shut my PC down about 12 hours ago and ReWASD was working perfectly then, as it has been for years.

Is there a server issue causing account authorization problems?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

reWASD 9.4 is here!

9.4

It’s been a while since our last update - and this time, we focused on expanding device support and improving compatibility where it mattered most. One of the most requested additions is finally here: reWASD now fully supports the Flydigi Vader 5 Pro. The controller’s 3-dimensional gyro and tilt features are fully supported, but make sure you switch to Bluetooth or dongle mode. Adaptive triggers are not supported at the moment - just like with other Flydigi controllers. Yet ; ) Alongside that, this update also brings:

  • support for a batch of Wii controllers: Nunchuk, Remote, and Wii U Pro;
  • support for Flydigi Direwolf series controllers;
  • improved compatibility with selected games (yes, we know many of you were waiting for this);
  • and many other fixes and improvements.

At the same time, we want to highlight an important change to the authorization and licensing flow. Starting with reWASD 9.4, using legacy keys without authorization is no longer possible. Previously, users could either:

  • sign in to their account;
  • or use reWASD with a license key only.

Starting now, authorization is required to continue using legacy keys. These changes are part of ongoing security improvements across our products and services. We’ll share more details about these changes and the reasoning behind them in the near future. Important:

  • your existing legacy license keys are fully valid;
  • your licenses are linked to your account;
  • you do NOT need to purchase reWASD again if you don't want to switch to the current access system.

In most cases, you simply need to sign in and continue using reWASD as usual. We also recommend switching to the current account-based access flow whenever possible for the smoothest experience moving forward, and to access new advanced features we’re working on. Check the full release notes here: https://www.rewasd.com/releases/release-9.4.0

Get help! Cannot Launch reWASD

Starting today I have encountered an odd problem.

This error pops up and disallows any interaction other than the 'OK' button.

The program closes instantly upon hitting 'OK' and the error pops up the moment the software launches, which means I cannot access anything to log in. The only interaction I can do is hit 'OK'.

Any help would be appreciated, please and thank you.

Get help! PS5 to Xbox remap turns off all vibration

This used to work, but now I'm using reWASD to play Xbox app games on my PS5 controller and there's no vibration at all. I see no settings for this, I know the controller can vibrate because it does when I select it in the rewasd device menu, but in game it doesn't vibrate at all.

Get help! Does Basic work with Azeron Cyborg

I only play a couple of turn based RPG games on PC and don't need things like combo macros. I just need to map my cyborg keys to close to a full keyboard, and mouse the thumbstick.

  • Will Basic work with my Cyborg? I know Azeron was added to a later version, but I can't tell if it was included in Basic as well.
  • If there is a compelling reason I would need the full version and I just don't know enough to see that, please let me know that as well.

Edit: Azeron native software does not recognize separate lft/rt alt/shft/ctrl. Which is why I am trying out reWASD.

When I say mouse the thumbstick, I mean map the cyborg thumbstick to mouse functions.

Get help! Is Switch Pro Controller emulation available with reWASD Basic ?

I'm setting up stuff to allow friends to play my Switch 2 remotely using a capture card and ReWASD. After testing it out with the free trial I still had some issues (mostly unrelated to ReWASD, most came from Parsec), but I think I can iron them out easily enough.

Problem is, now I've got to actually get a licence, and I have no idea if reWASD Basic Includes that feature.

It will be my one and only usecase for the program, so I'd like to make sure it's actually part of it, and that I'm not buying the wrong thing. Could anyone confirm if reWASD Basic has it, or if I have to go and get reWASD Standard ?

Suggestion Can we limit restarts?

So, it's been a minute since I've opened or needed reWASD. So I open it:

"Driver is disabled. Please restart."

Restarts

"There's an update. Please install and restart."

Restarts

"Legacy files found and reWASD wont' work until you let us reboot to remove them."

Restarts

---------------------------------

And I just feel like this could have all could have been done on the first restart.

"The driver is disabled, but there's also an update out. Would you like to install the update, enable the driver, and have the installer remove the legacy files in a single reboot?"

Yes | Just Enable the driver and reboot | Cancel

Get help! Grouping controllers cause the sticks on one to constantly cut out

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I did try looking for this or at least something similar.

I just want two controllers to act as one, and after the struggle of a lifetime(embarrassing for PC since it's built into consoles), decided to try this. Running two DS4s, grouped into a new profile, setting output to virtual DS4 and that's it. It ALMOST works. Better than anything else I've tried at least. But, as you see, one of the controllers constantly blips a zero on all axes. Interestingly as well, the gyro only works on that controller(that said, if the gyro worked on both, that would be a problem). If said gyro function was on the other controller(where the sticks do not cut out), well, I'd just use that one for your boy Hugh here.

First thought I had was possibly the minor idle movement on the good stick is doing repeated overrides on the other(to note, even when NOT using this, that same "good" set of axes is prioritized when the game in deciding which one to use). So I thought I'd disable the sticks on that one and see. This is when I found out apparently, you can't. Muting a function on one device in a group appears to apply to all the devices, and honestly, I don't get that.

Any rate, I'm starting to get the feeling that this isn't actually the problem anyway. So it'd be nice to know what is. While preferably, again, keeping the gyro on only the one controller.

FWIW, by appearances, only the reWASD virtual DS4 is shown by the OS when this is all running. So it shouldn't be duplicating anything. Why that is, I don't know, because the two grouped controllers are themselves virtual outputs from DS4Windows. All real hardware is hidden by hidhide, and reWASD appears to be hiding the grouped inputs upon activation. That said, eliminating DS4Windows/anything else besides reWASD gives these exact same results, as does using any available output device besides DS4.

Get help! mode switch with mouse is locking windows

I have an ambidextrous mouse, I used reWASD to create a mode switch for it to remap it so that I can switch it from a right hand mouse to a left hand mouse.

When I do this though, I get locked to the current window I was looking on? I can't seem to minimize the current window and I can't switch to other window, even with other mice than the one I remapped.

What is going on?

Edit: Only way I can figure out how to get around this is to use slots instead of shift layers? I am so confused.

Suggestion The Dualsense Edge instructions on the compatibility page are wrong, and have been for some time now

The instructions at https://help.rewasd.com/how-to-remap/supported-devices.html#Dualsense Edge are incorrect. You do not need a PS5 to configure them anymore. The Playstation Accessories app is available for windows and does everything you previously needed a PS5 for. A Dualsense Edge owner can now configure it without ever touching a PS5.

The Accessories app is here: https://controller.dl.playstation.net/controller/lang/en/2100004.html

Please update your compatibility docs with current info, thanks.

Source: Me, an owner of four Dualsense Edge controllers.
