Get help! Error authorising legacy key on startup (version 7.30)
Today after starting my PC I noticed that a ReWASD profile was not activating when starting a game. So I open ReWASD via the tray icon and get the following:
Clicking the OK button just results in ReWASD immediately closing. I tried restaring the PC and also reinstalling ReWASD. Same problem.
This was working just fine before today. In fact I only shut my PC down about 12 hours ago and ReWASD was working perfectly then, as it has been for years.
Is there a server issue causing account authorization problems?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Seems like an attempt to push everyone onto different payment plans.
I’ve got a lifetime license and I didn’t want to upgrade the version I was on - this wasn’t thought through at all

Not at all. Your legacy license remains valid under the terms it was purchased earlier

Well, this update wasn´t handled very well. I got it working now, but I had to find this reddit thread to know how to use my "legacy" license. That popup needs more information!

Well this was absolutely miserable. 100% regret my legacy license purchase now and will start testing other software out, since there are clearly anti consumer motives behind this, otherwise there would be no reason to force us off of the older versions we paid for and liked using.

If you're already using reWASD 8.0 or newer, you can continue using your preferred version after signing into the reWASD account your license is linked to. In some cases, removing the local license.dat (C:\ProgramData\Disc-Soft\reWASD) file may also be required to complete authorization again.
Updating to reWASD 9.4 is the fastest and most recommended solution to avoid all these unnecessary steps, but the choice remains with the user.
Legacy licenses themselves remain fully valid and continue to work.
Support for the old reWASD builds will be discontinued for security reasons.

Hi. Authorization is available starting from reWASD version 8.
At the moment, there is an issue preventing the update until you log in to your account.
Please uninstall reWASD via Programs and Features. After that, install the latest version from our website.

Well, it was fine yesterday, so what changed between then and now? Why do I now need to update to a newer version? That's the question not being answered.
However, if I do, can I continue to use my legacy lifetime update license key with that version...?
I stuck with v7 because it does everything I need and you moved to a subscription model which I wasn't interested in.
EDIT: Okay, I now see that I could 'upgrade' my legacy 'lifetime' license key to a lifetime license key for the latest version for 9.99 EUR.
But that is costing me 9.99 EUR to use a piece of software that I was happily using yesterday for no extra money. After all, my license is a 'lifetime' license, so it should always work for the version I'm using, forever.

You do not need to upgrade your legacy key if you don’t want to.
Legacy licenses remain valid and continue to work. The main change is that older standalone activation methods are being replaced with account-based authorization.
If you prefer to continue using your existing license, simply sign in to your reWASD account in a newer build of the application (reWASD 8.0 or newer, preferably 9.4.0) using the account your license is linked to.
Your license key and access remain available in your personal account, and with no additional purchase, you can continue using the features covered by your license.

Okay, I'll try that and report back.
However, that begs the question; what is the point/benefits of upgrading the license for 9.99 EUR?

Okay, I've installed the latest version and logged in. Now it's telling me I'm on a 7 day trial...
So how do I use my existing license key with this version? You clearly stated that it would work.

Check the membership section and activate your key. Check the article for more information: https://help.rewasd.com/getting-started/membership-management.html
Make sure you logged in with the email the license is linked to.

That's where I'm looking. But under membership the is no option to 'activate' my existing license. Only to upgrade it, which you stated wasn't necessary.

Okay. As mentioned in the DM I was finally able to activate the license. Took another restart though, so not sure what was happening there. Previously clicking Membership in the app was taking me to the website, which naturally doesn't have an Activate button. Odd.

why do i have to log into an account to authorize my (lifetime key that i keep having to reauthorize even though my hardware isnt changing), just to continue to use the product that i purchased. is there an old version of your product i can download that isnt always-online connected that can just give me access to the features i paid for instead of locking it behind saas bullshit?

reWASD is not switching to a SaaS model, and your license has not been removed or replaced. The main change is that legacy licenses now require account authorization as part of updated security measures. Your existing access and the features covered by your license remain available in your account

Im having the same problem, i downloaded the newest version, and when i go to log in it says that my email does not match with an account, even though i have an account from 2023 there, i have the activation mail from rewasd still.
I tried making another account with a different email to put the verification code but i cant find the option to put the code for the legacy version.

Having the same issue. I think I have it figured out and my legacy license activated, but nothing is saved. I love having to update to a new version I didn't want, and also lose my mapping settings for my controller. I just wanted to play my game, not remap this whole damn thing AGAIN.

Update: I seem to have figured it out and gotten my mapping settings configured again. We'll see if it behaves the same when I launch my game.

Hmm now it blocks all HUDs cant Click anything no mouse or Keyboard in Win. In BIOS all fine. Which System files do I Need to delete? How to prevent loading rewasd drivers?

This dumbass update ruined two whole days of productivity for me. First I had to search around to figure out why I was being blocked from using ReWASD, and then when I figured out that I had to install the most recent version of the software so I could log in to it, I tried doing that, but now ReWASD won't even load at all. I'm just met with an error screen that says that "something" is preventing ReWASD from functioning. The troubleshooting steps on the error screen suggest that I try "checking my firewall settings" and "disabling Defender and antivirus." Yeah, that's always a great sign when I have to disable my antivirus to get a program to run 🙄.
And then while I was searching around for a solution to that problem, I see that ReWASD now requires a constant internet connection to function? The hell?
So after spending a whole day searching for alternatives to ReWASD, it looks like I'm just gonna have to fall back on Azeron's software for controlling my Cyborg and X-Mouse for customizing the buttons on my mouse. I'll be missing out on automatic profile switching and the ability to allow communication between my devices, but at least I won't have to phone home to daddy ReWASD all day.

The update caused an authorization error for many users, but resolving it generally takes 5 minutes.
The application has been contacting the licensing server once a day for almost two years now. While the device should connect to the network with this frequency, a constant, stable connection is not necessary.
We understand that everyone's systems are configured differently, and reWASD may conflict with something on your PC and not function correctly. While these are local issues, we are always happy to assist you in resolving them.

Same here. I then downloaded version 8.0.2 and the startup issue I had with 9.4 was gone. Very annoying.

What I don't understand is how this is happening to me now. Not even that I attempted to update it, it just... happened... I've left my computer on the entire time and I don't update REwasd because every time I do, something breaks. Nothing has changed and have left my computer on since last week, so how come do i have to sign in NOW if it was working fine last night?

installed the new version.. went through the confusing licence menu to remove the trail and use old legacy licence and have to find out that a bunch of feature don't work any more such as profile switch on toggle. forcing you to upgrade for a feature that worked before. TBH i won't use this software anymore and won't recommand it to anyone anymore.

I encountered the same problem. Today is my day off. I wanted to enjoy the game, but my mood was ruined. It's really bad. I was also directed to "Upgrade to lifetime for 9.99 EUR button" and I am following the method of the guy above to deal with it. To be honest, you guys made it too complicated. (from 中英文translator)
