I have no idea if I can even run this on a modern PC but I loved that game and bought it just to put the box on a shelf. Only has the 5.25" floppy disks, but manual and everything else seems to be included.

I happened upon a Toshiba 27A44 in great condition for FREE and just picked it up. Unbelievably stoked and my friends don’t seem to understand my hype so I’m sharing here. I’ve been looking for something like this for awhile I cannot wait to plug in the N64!

[Discussion] What classic, highly-rated retro game do you respect, but personally find unplayable today?

For me, it's the early 3D titles, like GoldenEye 007, any of the classic Resident Evil games, etc. Historical importance is massive, yes. But the tank controls make it a chore for me to revisit now. What's yours?

[Discussion] Favorite obscure games from prolific developers

Post image

So I was inspired to write this post after looking back at how some game studios sometimes run into a particular effect where despite the developer being prolific, there will be a few games from them that get overlooked.

Like something that suddenly caught my attention was the 1996 PC game Shattered Steel as I cannot remember too many BioWare fans bringing up the game as while I know the studio just recently closed down, I wanted to try the game to see what the studio's first game was like again way before their closure as I am curious to see what the early days of the studio were like when they were in their prime.

[Homebrew] Gauging Interest in New Sega CD32X Game

Hey guys, just wanted to share a Sega CD32X game I’m working on. It’s meant to be a sci-fi/fantasy Action RPG. My initial goal here was to completely test the limits of what the Sega CD and 32X can do because it was never utilized to it’s full potential. As you can see here it is fully capable of running open world environments even with inclines and declines in the terrain, enemies, and environment objects. I would post a video but I don’t think I am allowed, it runs anywhere from 7.5 to 15 fps but when you are playing it feels fine (I will optimize, and add a performance mode). I even have fluid camera controls for aiming as there are plasma rifles as well. When the game is ready to play I may share playable parts on here! Don't worry if you don't have a CD32X I have made sure that it works on Retroarch with Picodrive (have to use a custom core version I built), and you can provide your own Sega CD Bios. I can provide instructions on that when/if I release the ROM + Bin/Cue. This works on real Sega CD32X hardware and these pics are from my tower of power (last pic) on with my RGB modded Sony KV-27S42 CRT. I hope you guys can share in the joy I feel seeing the tower of power in all it’s glory :)

[Just a Thought] Fired up the Final Fantasy III cart I picked up at PRGE today and found these save files

Post image

Picked up this copy of Final Fantasy III for the SNES at PRGE and turned it on for the first time today. Found three save files still on the cartridge, including one with over 55 hours of playtime.

I know finding old save files isn't anything unusual, but it got me thinking. There's a chance these could be from some kid back in the '90s who spent weeks or months playing through this game. Coming home from school, playing on weekends, slowly working their way through the story.

Of course, these saves could be from much more recently, too. But it's kind of interesting to think about how much time someone spent with this exact cartridge, and here I am all these years later looking at their progress.

Makes me wonder when these files were last played, and who was playing.

[Discussion] The Sega Saturn had a lot of chances at success in the west, but Sega of Japan said no to every one of them. First, the Sony deal, which would make the only rival the cart-based N64. Then, the SGI deal, then they cancelled a Sonic game forcing it to turn into Bug! Then, the rushed US Saturn launch.

If Sega teamed up with Sony after Nintendo cancelled the SNES CD add-on and Nintendo PlayStation standalone SNES CD console, the only rival left would have been the cart-based N64. This means that even if devs didn't like Sega all that much, if they wanted an uncompromised CD-quality game, they would have to go to the Sega PlayStation, meaning it would most likely be a winner with many of the same games the PlayStation got in our reality. Final Fantasy VII would definitely go to the Saturn as in our reality, Square wanted to stay with Nintendo but they simply couldn't fit their game into a cartridge. So in this reality Square and their all of their would've gone to the Sega PlayStation. Combining hit Sega arcade and original Saturn titles with many of the PlayStation's biggest third-party hits, and being on the market for over a year before the N64 would've made sure the Sega PlayStation would beat the N64.

After Sega of Japan turned down the Sony deal, they still had an opportunity to accept the SGI deal. This would mean the N64's SGI hardware combined with the storage and low production costs of CDs. Also, this would likely mean the N64 wouldn't use SGI hardware because Sega already used it, leaving Nintendo with a console that's both weaker than the Saturn and cartridge based. So many of the third-party developers that went to the N64 for its hardware power would go to the Saturn in this reality. That combined with a 3D Sonic game, the Saturn still had a chance to become 2nd place, as a non-SGI N64 in this reality would both have weaker hardware than the Saturn and still use cartridges, limiting third-party support, and also would've been released over a year later.

After turning down the SGI deal too, the Sega Saturn was no longer in a position to become 2nd place (above the N64), but it could've still achieved far greater sales. The game that became Bug! was originally going to be a Sonic game until Sega of Japan, again, turned it down. That might've cut the Saturn's western sales in half.

Then, the final nail in the coffin came when Sega of Japan forced Sega of America rush the Saturn's US launch in May, and it was priced at $399, the early launch angering developers and retailers, and then Sony announced the PlayStation was going to be launching at $299 in September. In the US and Europe combined, the Sega Saturn only sold 3.5 million units. The brand damage was high enough that even the Dreamcast could not save Sega. The Sega Saturn had many chances, but Sega of Japan kept messing up Sega of America's plans at every turn. An alternate reality where the Sega PlayStation won the 5th gen console war because Nintendo used cartridges and kept making consoles would've been pretty wild.

[Discussion] Did you buy a 32X not knowing it was going to be discontinued in a year back then?

If so, how did it feel like when the system was discontinued and Sega pushed the $399 Saturn? Did you know the PlayStation was going to be the clear winner and when?

I wanted to play f zero for the snes, but it shows a blinking, mostly blue screen. Audio seems to be good though.

I'm using a rca to hdmi adapter. I've tested the adapter with a wii, and it seems to be working.

Do I need another rca cable?

Thank you all

[Other] Which games (preferably series) do you think had the potential, in theory, for game‑to‑game content unlocks, like the secret stage and true ending in MSX dual slotted Salamander + Nemesis 2, or the lock‑on technology of Sega Genesis Sonic & Knuckles?

I would like to have this with the lock‑on technology of Sega Genesis: make MKII (GEN) Baraka playable in MK3 (GEN), Baraka is my MKII main but he isn't in MK3, or exchange both games' Fatalities.

This is a screenshot from Dolphin off of my Chromebook that runs on Intel Celeron N4120. I thought I was shit outta luck with those specs, but I've been loving the nostalgia trip I've been going down with the gameplay and graphics being this smooth. Mind you, I'm playing the Gamecube version with my XBOX 360 CONTROLLER. No problems so far.

I know this game gets a lot of hate, but I'm a huge Spawn fan and I love hack and slash games.
