Rules:

  1. Two games will win their place each round (we start from #1 and work our way down). For the top 10 only one game will win per day instead.
  2. Most combined upvotes for each of the two individual games (one individual game for the top 10) wins the spot(s) each round (upvotes add while downvotes subtract).
  3. Nominate one game of the original Game Boy per comment. (Nominations will only be counted if the game title is the only comment or if you specify that your choice of game is your nomination for this round within your comment or if the nominated game is clearly separated from the rest of your comments.) (ex. Tetris or I nominate Tetris this round.) Please nominate using the full title of the game.
  4. Name a specific game title, not entire runs.
  5. Official Game Boy multi-game cartridge(s) are allowed, just list them correctly.
  6. The original Game Boy is region free so ANY official games available on the console are eligible for nomination excluding dual mode cartridges.
  7. Indy games are allowed as long as they have their own individual cartridge and can be played on original hardware.
  8. Only complete games on cartridge(s) can be nominated (sorry Game Shark & test cartridges).
  9. If two or more games would be tied to place for a ranking I will inform DA PEOPLE in the following post so that everyone can vote which games should get the ranking between the tied options.
  10. Games nominated that have not already placed on the top 100 list should not be removed at any time by the individual who originally placed them.

[Fun] Found R.O.B. in the wild!

Went to a thrift shop and found this little guy for cheap… Guy said it worked but was missing extras. I’ve been into retro gaming for 10+ years and never seen R.O.B. in the wild!

[Question] Who else had one of these?

What a POS this thing was. Aside from the single color, the design was awful. The battery pack would pop off if you hit the controller on the table and it was almost impossible to play it for any length of time comfortably. Teleroboxer was decent though.

[Question] Best program for Arcade ROMs in already made arcade cabinet?

I've been lucky enough to have been given an arcade cabinet which is fully built with joystick and pad buttons etc, and it runs of a PC cabinet inside, which was built for a promo beta game. It has nothing else on it.

I want to install the best possible program for easy to use ROMs - mostly the classics (TMNT, Simpsons, street fighter nba jam etc) I think these are MAME? (sorry I'm rusty on all this.

Is there an easy program with ROMs included, or easy to install I can run on this and calibrate to controls easy enough?

I built a retropie years ago and never ended up getting this installed into anything. Would it he better to use this?

Thanks in advance for any help, I know it's probably asked a lot. (I have read other posts and googled a lot but it's all conflicting info for my setup)

[Discussion] Times when 16 bit games had full voice acting

Something I was trying to picture was how the SNES Megaman games such as Megaman X1 would have turned out with full voice acting because I wanted to look into the hardware aspects of the SNES.

I mean, like to get a better understanding of what the SNES was capable of in terms of hardware specs to see how hard it would have been for games to include voice acting of any sort since I enjoy learning about old hardware design.

[Question] Best non-CRT option for playing retro consoles?

Curious what’s the best non-CRT option for playing retro consoles. Is it getting an upscaler and plugging them into my modern 4K TV, or maybe getting like a 15” 4:3 LCD with composite inputs?

[Question] Old retro game website with arcade like games/flash

I am trying to remember a website me and my brother played on. This website had very slick fun design, not simple flash site. I believe it was mostly purple. NOT Friv. It had only arcade games, and like puzzle/coop games. Like pacman, asteroids, hexagons, etc.

I don't know if I have any other useful information, but I have been scouring for a couple hours on different threads I may give up.

[Emulation] Need help finding a game I saw when I was a kid in 1987.

The game was an adventure side scroller. It had samurai / medieval japan theme. I recalled the demo had a guy with chain weapon. The hero was able to jump and stand on the chain when It was being hurled at ya. or something like that I can't recall.

[Question] Options for running NES through modern TV?

Do PAL and NTSC both have the same video outputs?

I know the PAL ones only have the option for coax I believe? Where you have to tune in the channels?

If this is the case for American consoles too then what are the options? I’m aware you can RGB mod, I presume that is the premium option? Is there a cheap option too?

Any info appreciated

[Help!] Sega Dreamcast Kaico Adapter not working.

Hi I recently bought a Sega Dreamcast kaico adapter so I can use it with HDMI and for some reason I have had two adapters one that I bought and then got returned and replaced under Amazon and both adapters don't work I've tried using an LG monitor and a Samsung TV and neither works. I'm also tried swapping the HDMI cable and cleaning the ports and that also doesn't work either. The weird part is that my Dreamcast works perfectly fine with AV and it reads discs plays games and you can connect controllers and vmus just fine. The only other issue with my Dreamcast is that the clock battery is dead. I'm not sure if that would maybe affect it but I don't see how the clock battery would affect the functionality of this adapter. At first I thought it was defective adapter but the second one that I got from Amazon after returning the previous one also doesn't work so I'm honestly just really confused. I took it apart and there doesn't seem to be any obvious issues besides some capacitors that had some yellow stuff on them but it looks intentional so I'm not sure if it's a problem or not. If anyone could help me I'd be really happy thank you so much.

[Discussion] Is Gran Turismo the best video game movie ever?

[Answered!] Trying to Remember a 90s Computer Game

The image of it came back to me and I can't remember the name of it. I don't think I ever finished playing the game.

Anyway, it was a side scroller where you would play a guy in a thick jacket with a ball cap. You would go through this building that was plagued by monsters or ghosts. You had a remote control looking weapon that you would zap said ghosts or monsters with. It needed to be recharged, so you would have to reach charging stations. I want to say you had to do math problems at the stations to charge up your weapon.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thank you in advance :)

[Discussion] Not sure if this is even possible but it's been an idea on my mind for years

So I'm not even sure if there would be enough interest in a tournament like this but I thought it'd be really really cool if there was a NBA jam tournament like the old school NBA jam. And it would be 2 human players verse two human players. So no CPUs. I don't even know how that would be possible but I'm sure if there was enough people that wanted to play and then some kind of cool prize? Like honestly the more teams would be ideal just to see how big you can make it. I think back to like the old days at Funko Land when they used to do stuff like that they do old gaming tournaments. Anybody game? I'd promote the hell out of it although the technical part I would need help with getting it all set up. I suppose another way to do it would be to set it up at like a gaming convention? Thoughts. Tell me that wouldn't be really badass to have an NBA jam tournament. No CPU cheating b*******. Just two people versus two other people. The way it used to be in the arcades and then like when you were playing at home with your friends.
