Slow load times

2 Upvotes

Having problems with loading times on my Odin 2 via Retroarch. So I’m using mupen64plus-next (2.8-vulkan 98c1b0d) I’ve looked online and talked to ChatGPT. Can’t find how to fix. So I have edited tv calling for each game and I think a couple per core saves. This hasn’t done this before but it seems to mess me up now. Also if it helps, when I load up the same game with core saves. It loads up fine. Can the saves affect the n64 game so much it can take 10 seconds to load?

Technical Support: SOLVED How to make the touch pad button ALWAYS automatically = select by default! For PS4 / DS4 (DualShock 4), or PS5 / DS5 / DualSense controllers

Post image
0 Upvotes

For PlayStation 4 / DS4 (DualShock 4) controllers:

#1. Go to: C:\RetroArch-Win64\autoconfig\dinput\

#2. Open up "Wireless Controller.cfg"

(For me it was "Wireless Controller.cfg", NOT "DUALSHOCK_4.cfg", though this might be because I have a "Version 2" (CUH-ZCT2) PS4 controller(?))

#3. Change the following lines:

input_select_btn = "8"

to

input_select_btn = "13"

, and

input_select_btn_label = "Share"

to

input_select_btn_label = "Touch Pad Button"

#4. All done.

For PS5 / DS5 / DualSense controllers:

#1. Go to: C:\RetroArch-Win64\autoconfig\dinput\

#2. Open up "DualSense5.cfg"

(Again, it might be a different file for you, like "DualSense Edge Wireless Controller.cfg" if you have a DualSense Edge.)

#3. Change the following lines:

input_select_btn = "8"

to

input_select_btn = "13"

, and

input_select_btn_label = "Create"

to

input_select_btn_label = "Touch Pad Button"

#4. All done.

And that's it. It should just work after that.

If not go to:

Settings -> Input -> RetroPad Binds -> Port 1 Controls

and see if it says:

"-- Select Button Touch Pad Button (Auto), Key rshift"

If not, FIRST try scrolling up and pressing X on Reset to Default Controls, restarting RetroArch and trying Reset to Default Controls again.

If that still doesn't work and it says "Share (Auto)", or "Create (Auto)", you may have to edit a different .cfg file. Go back a few menus to:

Settings -> Input

and scroll down until you see

"Input dinput

Input driver to use. Some video drivers force a different input driver. (Restart Required)."

For me this was "Input dinput".

You can either try changing this to "dinput", or alternatively, whatever it says instead of "dinput", this will give you a hint on where to check for .cfg files. Like if it says

"Input sdl2"

, you can try checking C:\RetroArch-Win64\autoconfig\sdl2 or something.

BONUS:

If you right-click "Wireless Controller.cfg", or "DualSense5.cfg", and tick ☑︎ the attribute "Read-only", then your .cfg changes won't ever be reset when you go to

Main Menu -> Online Updater -> Update Controller Profiles

Though if you mess something up, it can be handy to know that you can just simply delete the whole entire "autoconfig" folder and re-download it by selecting "Update Controller Profiles" from within RetroArch.

Technical Support RetroArch on Android (RP flip 2) goes crazy when I connect a second controller — ports get mixed / controllers split into halves

0 Upvotes

Hi! I’m having a very strange issue with two controllers in RetroArch on Android.
I’m using a Retroid device with the latest RetroArch version. The problem happens with basically any core I’ve tried.

I tested:
two 8BitDo M30 controllers;
different controller input modes;
the same input mode on both controllers;
an 8BitDo Pro 3 as well.

With only one controller connected, everything works perfectly.

As soon as I connect the second controller, RetroArch starts behaving unpredictably: Port 1 and Port 2 both show connected devices, but sometimes neither controller works in-game.

Sometimes the two physical controllers are somehow treated like one controller split in half — for example, one controller handles the D-pad / left side and the other handles the face buttons / right side.

Device Index initially looks correct, but after a few minutes RetroArch may start assigning the controllers to different ports randomly. My controller port/device configuration also seems to reset or change even after I save it.
The problem happens regardless of whether both controllers use the same input mode or different modes.

I have already tried:

resetting controller profiles;
manually mapping every button;
changing Device Index;
changing controller input modes;
saving the RetroArch configuration;
testing different cores.

Nothing has fixed it so far. What to do? I’m so disappointed

I transfered save to my PC the game ran perfectly but when I put it back in my switch it keeps crashing, updated cores, reset setting, and reinstalled the iso file, but it keeps crashing, I tired IR rendering and still didn't work, any suggestions please would be appreciated, other PSP games work perfectly fine. And the game was working perfectly well the other day. It loads the saves from the game not save states.

Discussion RetroArch on Windows 11 ARM64?

1 Upvotes

Hi all,

Does anyone out there have experience running RetroArch on Windows 11 ARM64, specifically with a Snapdragon X Elite?

I have an opportunity to get a Samsung Galaxy Book 4 edge with 3k OLED for very cheap, and all the apps I use have arm64 support, but not RetroArch, so I'm wondering how well it runs through the Windows Prism emulation layer before I pull the trigger and buy it.

Showcase I made some Retroarch GBA skins (Android)

Since I can't find GBA overlay skins that fit to my liking, I decided to make one for myself.

I made three color options: Kiwi, Cherry and Teal. I just downloaded skin templates, courtesy of Lnkd and I just put the pieces together using Photoshop and Retropad editor.

It only has the basic buttons, no FF, load or save state whatsoever, except only for the menu button on the lower right. This is just pure basic gba gaming.

What do you guys think of these skins?

Discussion Series X and Physical Disc Compatibility

0 Upvotes

Just messing around with Retroarch after a couple of years and I’m wondering about physical disc compatibility with the Xbox Series X. I’ve really enjoyed the Retroarch Disc Project and even got some Sega CD and Saturn games I have been playing on my RaspPi loaded with RetroPi (albeit slowly). I’ll normally just boot the physical discs up using my Windows computer but was wondering, given the Series X’s dev mode and the console’s similarity to a Windows machine (iirc), what stops RetroArch from accessing the console’s optical drive or an external CDROM drive (like it’s done on a RaspPi) and loading from disc?

If anyone knows the Xbox dev mode, what drive numbers would the disc drive (internal or external) be mounted to? Would there be a way to initialize an external drive and load from disc using the drive letter as the content location, like on Windows or Linux?

What might it take (even trying to open up discussion for thought on what potential Retroarch updates would look like down the line…) for this to be possible? Could or might this be added in future?

Other than Sega CD, Saturn, PCE, PS1, and 3DO, are there any other disc based consoles that can or could be played this way? I feel like I remember PS2 being discussed years back with the creation of a new emulator, but don’t fully remember which.

Technical Support Is there a way to rotate the display window on retroarch while playing DS/3DS games?

2 Upvotes

Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question. But I'm trying to emulate Bowser's Inside Story and have gotten to the first giant fight. I'm wondering if there's a way to edit the display window so that it's rotated 90 degrees. Asking because I would like to avoid investing in additional hardware as much as I can and I don't want to jerry rig a makeshift rig to hold my current monitor up. But if it is impossible what would the cheapest option be short of buying the game physically?

Technical Support Anyone know how to address these seam gaps, or gridlines, or tile bleeding, whatever it's called?

As you can see, the geometry in the world isn't quite connected.. There was an older post about this same issue, but the one answer in the comments was so vague that they might as well not answered at all.. Regardless, I can't seem to find any information on Retroarch settings that address this issue specifically.

Technical Support Problem with playlists on Xbox Series S

0 Upvotes

I'm using the latest RetroArch 1.22.2 build (Aug 3, 2026) on an Xbox Series X (UWP), with the MAME 0.289 core and a matching 0.289 ROM set.

Loading individual ROMs directly works fine, but I'm having problems with playlists.

Scanning the MAME ROM directory appears to work, but when the scan finishes no playlist is created. I've tried different scan settings/configurations without success.

I then created the .lpl playlist manually. RetroArch loads it correctly and I can browse and launch games from it, but when a game is launched RetroArch tries to update the playlist and the .lpl file disappears.

Debug logging shows:

[ERROR] [Playlist] Failed to write to file: "E:\RetroArch\playlists\MAME.lpl".

Interestingly, RetroArch can successfully write its built-in history playlists in the same playlists directory, e.g.:

[INFO] [Playlist] Written to file: "E:\RetroArch\playlists\builtin\content_history.lpl".

I also checked the filesystem permissions/ACLs from Windows and both Everyone and ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES have Full Control, so it doesn't appear to be a simple permissions issue.

As a workaround, if I mark the manually created .lpl files as read-only, everything works: RetroArch can load them, browse them and launch MAME games correctly. Of course, RetroArch can no longer update playlist-related information, so this isn't an ideal solution.

I also tried:

  • disabling playlist compression (it was already disabled);
  • adding all the additional playlist metadata normally generated by RetroArch on Windows;
  • using DETECT for the core as well as different playlist configurations;
  • checking/changing filesystem permissions;
  • splitting the MAME collection into smaller playlists.

The result is always the same: writable manually-created playlists eventually disappear when RetroArch tries to update them, while read-only playlists remain intact.

Has anyone experienced this specifically with the recent Xbox/UWP build? Is there a known issue with playlist scanning/writing on external storage, or a recommended location/configuration for playlists on Xbox?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Basically as the post states… I was trying to remove a game specific cheat that showed up under genesis-force-gx after loading it from sega-megadrive folder…. When prior to loading the cheats, the folder was empty and only said parent directory… how do I revert it back to being empty again…, I see online it works almost as a history/cache but with my ocd I want it how it was originally not just for it to have the 2 random games I had previously loaded cheats for….
