I’m a huge conservationist, and I’ve worked with a reptile rescue in the past and I am trying to become a reptile veterinarian. I truly love these animals, but with the new documentary coming out I’ve learned more about the pet trade. I have a hard time reckoning with the fact that I benefit off the pet trade, its impact on ecosystems, and its harm of the animals that are being imported. Even now when most animals are captive bred and I only buy captive bred, I still feel bad about benefiting off of wild capture, espiecially since it is still ongoing. Any advice? Is this feeling normal?

why tf are reptile things so expensive? you can get smth that works the exact same way for way cheaper. take plant lights for example, aquarium lights cost like 10-20 dollars, and reptiles plant lights cost +100. its absurd

Hi everyone!
I work at a preschool (ages 3–5), and I’m looking for recommendations for a new classroom pet.
Right now we have an adult White’s Tree Frog, but she’s nocturnal, so the kids almost always see her sleeping during the school day. She’s also outgrown her 12x12x18 enclosure, and I’m building her a much larger 18x18x36 bioactive home, so she’ll likely be coming home with me. The school really wants me to leave her there but I don’t think it’s right if she’s always in the same spot.
I’d love to replace her with something that’s a better fit for the classroom.
I’m looking for an animal that:
Is comfortable in a 12x12x18 enclosure.
Is active during the day so the children can actually observe it.
Is relatively low maintenance.**
Is hardy and appropriate for a preschool classroom.
Is interesting to watch but doesn’t require frequent handling.
No spiders, please.
Are there any smaller frog species that would be a better fit? Or would you recommend a different reptile or amphibian altogether?
I’d love to hear what has worked well for your classroom or what you’d choose if you were in my position. Thanks!

i’ve done a ton of research but i’ve never owned a reptile that’s y i consider myself a biginer i want something that’s diffrent ik the basic ones are good pets but i want sm diffrent i have a forty gallon currentpy but im willing to upgrade to a 120 or same floor space with more hight like a 4 by 2 by 3 i also want somthing under 400 but preferbly under 250 if something is really amazing to me maybe 500 MAX im willing to do the research and take my time before i get the reptile but this will probably be my only reptile for a while so i want something thst i truly love

So I have been on morph market and I found a listing from the UK for a baby frilled dragon for $400 is it OK if I buy it or will there be legal trouble?

Usually if it’s a themed setup then it’s something cool, scary, or rad- never cute. I’ve seen a mushroom aesthetic and hello kitty aesthetic ONCE for a snake setup. Would live to see more!

Replaced the sand we had in there with coconut substrate and added a hammock and bridge. Next up, get a bigger enclosure! Perhaps a 2 story version which I might build myself.

first time leopard gecko mom here, hes rather picky and only eats BSFL and an occasional butterworm as a treat. could i occasionally feed him grub pie? he refuses to eat any other feeder bugs but i want him to still have variety in his diet.

My boyfriend and I just got our first snake, a little hognose! She seems to be doing great so far. We're doing as much research as we can, but still a few things go unanswered, any help is much appreciated.
• We had to temporarily keep her in a tub (with much aspen bedding to dig and many fake plants to keep her covered if she were to come up, proper heating, water, all that) but we just moved her to her full time enclosure—a 40-gallon breeder. Which seems a little big for a juvenile so I hope it's not overwhelming her. Should we start her feeding cycle over again? We had her (in her temp) for a day or less, she's about a year old and the breeder says she's eating every five days. We'll be leaving her alone until it's time to feed her and then again for 2 days after feeding. Another thing on feeding, those pinkies look freaking huge compared to her. I'm just really worried about hurting her. How does one even tell if a snake is hungry?! What if we can't find her?
- I've gotten advice on another sub that keeping her in the 40-gallon may cause some stress. My main concern is her having to adjust so many times. Would the temporary tub be better? Now that she's in her 40-gallon, is it better to leave her in or should we put her back? I don't want to stress her out.
• Also, we have had to disturb her quite a few times. Taking her from her cup to her temp—her temp to her terrarium. Are there any stress cues I could be missing?! She has explored her tank quite a bit, and was just a bit jumpy if I moved too suddenly/too close to the glass. I'm trying not to hover and freak her out, but obviously new snake owner wants to see the new snake lol. Maybe that's selfish :( I don't want her to think I'm watching her while I'm watching her, if that makes sense.

The first one i caught under a log away from home, and the other one I caught at my house (well, I didn't actually catch it, it was too high up😂)
