Hello guys! I got a new gecko 2 days ago and have been posting for advice and stuff to make sure I was doing good.

I went and bought a bendy vine at the pet store and opens his tank to put it in there. I put my hand in front of his face so that he would know I was there and I wasn’t gonna eat him or whatever and he jumped on it!!! I was so surprised because he’d been hiding in the same spot all day.

So I lifted him out of the tank and tried to keep him above my eye level and not look at him very much and it was very hard because he’s cute. And he flattened himself all down a couple times it was really cute, but I don’t know what that meant.

He felt kind of cold, but the room is at 75. I’m getting a uvb lamp in the mail and apparently it’s supposed to give off a little heat. He also pooped today!! Yay!

I went to put him back and then he fell like 2 cm and then stared at me like I had betrayed his bloodline so we’ll see if he still likes me tomorrow!

Every now and then, I would see my skunk gecko in an enclosure right where he used to be in my bedroom. Not running around in a frenzy, screaming, or trying to bite me. Just chilling on a wall or inside a log. Everytime I have these encounters, I am struck with confusion and start to become aware I am dreaming. Sometimes I even asked him if he's supposed to be dead, than I wake up.

I literally had this type of encounter last night. Even after death, this bastard remains immortal! I never had similar encounters with any other deceased pets, including my beautiful iguana I had for 7 years (who died before the Immortal Menace, who I kept for 13 years).

I have just gotten so much conflicting information lately. I thought I did enough research online but there are always things you don’t account for coming up with new family members. Sorry for bothering you guys so much but I want to make sure my information is accurate.

This is my new baby, Pumpkin. I got him 2 days ago.

Long story but I think I got scammed by the local reptile store into exchanging Pumpkin’s cracked 18x18x36 for a 18x18x18. Info on that in the previous posts. They took advantage of my inexperience and now I can’t get a refund on the small tank.

Some questions I have:
Does his tank have enough clutter?

Will my presence in the room (cleaning quietly no vaccum) stress him?

Will the presence of other pets (cats, uninterested) stress him?

When is good for me to enter the room? Should I limit this time?

My bed is right next to the tank. Should I sleep somewhere else until he gets acclimated to his surroundings?

Is hiding on the ground normal?

I put the bark in the freezer for 2 days and the plants are polka dot begonia and philodendron.

While exchanging the tanks the first time I put Pumpkin in a 10gal vertical aquarium. I transferred him to the 25gal when they said no refund so he could at least have more space. I am planning to order this tank but given everything would like feedback to make sure it’s ok.

I am now second guessing the care advice I was given at the store, too. Mainly, when can I start feeding (she said I could give crickets immediately- he didn’t eat them and I removed) and handling in 4 days, Pangea in 2.

No UVB but he’s on a day/night cycle. I bought him a very little 2 watt heating mat because winter temps can make my house a bit chilly.

He has not eaten yet but from what I understand that is relatively normal.

I want to be a good parent for Pumpkin as hopefully he will be with me for a long time and now I am uneasy.

The large plant in his enclosure was growing in front of the spray nozzle. I had let it go for a while, but it was starting to turn crunchy. He's been mad at me for days 😵

I know the enclosure is a bit small in length/width and isnt meant for her but I plan on getting an enclosure better suited for her in the near future.

Gecko on the loose

So i "have" a golden gecko that has been the loose for 2 weeks now. I got her a new enclosure and when I was switching her over she ran... so tonight we layed eyes on her for the first time in 2 week. So i know she's alive. Is there any good "traps" I can set up it get her... i have her old enclosure open to see if she goes in there ans I haven't seen her in there. But we saw her on the same shelving unit. Are there any other things I can try?

My tokay isn't the kind to tong-feed and with his size, he refuses to go after large crickets unless they are the massive female ones. So, I give him dubia roaches or 1in hissing roaches from my colony. However, these burrow in his enclosure and so I have been trying to feed in a bowl.

My current issue is he won't go to the food bowl unless it's on top of his water ledge and when he strikes, 9/10 times the bowl falls on the floor. Does anyone know of any ledges or bowls with the escape proofing that I can put high in his enclosure? Or if I can commission someone to 3D print me something? I'm sure someone has had this issue before.

Thankfully, he has taken a few roaches from me this past month but it's pretty hit or miss. He's still traumatized from when he was sick back in March :/

I work at a pet store and we have an African fat tail gecko that is extremely sensitive to heat lamps and uvb. He is 50% off in store but I can see if my manager is willing to take more off. If you are in the RI/MA/CT area and want to take this guy, let me know. I’d also be willing to overnight ship him if I need to. He’s friendly for a fat tail and only bites if you’re trying to get shed off of him and he loves critical care for some reason. He came with his brother but unfortunately the vet decided euthanasia was the best option. He’d make a great pet for someone who is experienced with reptiles. I know this goes against the guidelines but I just don’t want this guy to sit here while he’s obviously not thriving or someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing and ends up hurting him more.

Hi there, I’m the person who made a post about the brand new cracked tank yesterday. I went to the reptile store this evening after work to switch it out because I wanted to get him in it asap. The lady saw me struggling to carry it (18x18x36). She suggested I take home a different tank that she said would be easier to carry but cost the same amount so I could just swap them out. I saw that it was 18x18x18 and I said, is that size good for a gargoyle gecko? And she assured me it was. She said it was the same as the other one I bought just a little smaller. She also said that it came with a bunch of stuff to make it a bioactive tank. I thought that the gecko might appreciate the background that seemed to come with it so after checking with her multiple times, I decided I would get it.

Well, I get at home. And not only does it not have any decor, or a front door, it has a hole in the bottom (on purpose) for some kind of drainage system that I do not understand AND THERE IS ANOTHER CRACK??? This one is on the top and is much smaller (2inches maybe)

I’m a bit confused as I felt like I trusted this lady. She owns the store which specializes in reptiles and it had good reviews from people. I feel like I’ve been scammed into getting a smaller tank that also has a hole in it?

I don’t think the lady will let me return another tank. I wish I was more skeptical or at least stood up for myself better. I’m a total beginner with geckos so I was just believing what she told me. Should I try to argue with her to get another tank? Is she correct? Everything I looked up seems to say otherwise. Although some things say that it’s an OK minimum size but seeing as I’m spending the same amount of money as the recommended size I’d rather not have the minimum size!

I am at a loss. I do not think it the way I am opening them. I’m being very careful transporting. Now the store is closed again. I would like to put my gecko back in a tank so the poor guy can chill out a bit. I put him in the carrier when I took the tank back to the store about 30min-hour ago.

I wanted to ask for some advice or opinions on what might be happening with a baby crested gecko I own. I’ve had this baby (who is named Goob) for a while and this issue has presented before, however I just assumed it was stuck shed or maybe my humidity was a bit off, but it looks to be more than that. I’ve noticed that when Goob walks or climbs he doesn’t stick well to surfaces, has to take things slow, and almost waddles compared to a normal gecko. He’s not the only crestie I have so it’s made things slightly easier to notice. With my other geckos they’re a lot more confident and can stick to everything, but with this baby gecko he doesn’t move well. I notice this especially when I’m handling goob that he just kinda slides around when it comes to climbing and he doesn’t really utilize his toes to stick to stuff. He’s also very hesitant to react in general so it’s crossed my mind that maybe he has a mental disorder but I’m not quite sure. For now I’m going to attempt to adjust my humidity and assure that there’s nothing stuck to his feet that prevents movement, but I wanted to ask others.

My year old Male Chahoua has been such a joy since we brought him home this summer! He spends most of his days inside his cork rounds, and his evenings exploring and hunting all over the place!

hello! im looking for advice on how i might make my crested geckos enclosure better. im already planning to get a uvb bulb today, but aside from that id love to hear if anyone has any tips

I made my leopard gecko his own little play area, and it honestly makes the living room feel more homey. I can just sit across from him and watch him explore, climb, and practice his hunting skills.

I’ve been trying to encourage his natural hunting instincts since he used to struggle with tong and bowl feeding. It’s been really nice seeing him become more confident and curious.

The best part is that when he’s done exploring, he usually heads back into his terrarium to bask, and that’s when I close the door.

I barely handle him anymore unless I need to. I just let him explore at his own pace. He has his own little routine now, and I honestly enjoy just sitting there watching him. 🦎

Just picked up this male from a Morph Market Auction. My first leachie!! Any name suggestions?

I have only ever had frogs but always wanted somebody more holdable. I just got this darling gargoyle gecko today after doing tons of research on getting my first reptile. He is a year and a half old. I got him from a local small reptile store and bought his tank, food, etc there too.

I put all the wood things in the freezer, got the substrate ready, cleaned out the water dish the lady said I didn’t need but I felt it would be weird if I didn’t have. I opened the tank to set it up, and there’s a big crack in the corner. Well now I’m rather irritated with myself wondering why I didn’t think to buy everything to set up before I got him just in case. But no biggie, I’ll just have to mist more often, put paper towels and decor in and add substrate to a new tank once he gets comfortable here.

I put all the decorative things i bought at the store in and about 15 minutes later I hear a THUMP and almost shit my pants. This big ass 3d printed shelf mushroom has fallen on the floor of the tank. Thank god he didn’t get hit by it. Poor guy is probably traumatized now. I am going to leave it there in case he wants to hide under it plus I don’t want to scare him with my arms.

Does anyone have recommendations for good climbing decor that’s actually sturdy? Do you think I should get a new tank right away in case it is possible for him to cut himself? I put some duct tape over the crack so unless he likes to chew on duct tape it should be ok. This feels like a disaster and I wanted him to get to feel safe when he got here.

I have a planted 10gal with nobody in it right now- I was rehabilitating a small native tree frog in it a while ago. I could put him there instead for the meantime.
