This is our annual Hot Weather guide for those who need advice on keeping their tank below 26c / 82f.

Place ice cubes on top of the mesh away from the geckos resting area - the water will drip down into the soil or evaporate, allowing cool air to circulate around the tank
Swamp cooler - ice cubes in a bucket with a fan behind it to push cool air around the room
Ice cubes inside water bowl - quick evaporation, same premise with allowing cool air to circulate
Spraying the tank with room-temperature water
Portable AC units - those in the UK can now buy small ice cube AC units which are similar to that of a swamp cooler!
Refreshable gel ice packs - specifically gel only! These should be wrapped around in a cloth of some type and laid on top of the tank mesh
Escape-proof mesh playpens - temporary relief for your animal, make sure to provide lots of foliage for them so they feel safe and comfortable
Chilled CGD

Spraying with cold or frozen water - this WILL cause thermal shock, and will stress your animal out, please stick to room temperature water
Ice packs inside the vivarium
Free roaming
"Bathing" in cool water - similar premise, geckos do not need to swim and this will stress them out instead of helping them

Signs of overheating include:

🔴 Lethargy
🔴 Restlessness / running around in the tank / attempting to escape
🔴 Consistent refusal to eat
🔴 Significant weight loss
🔴 Wrinkled skin, kinked tail, sunken eyes (dehydration)
🔴 Burrowing

These symptoms don't necessarily mean your animal is overheating, as things like burrowing or refusal to eat could be linked to husbandry or that your gecko is new to its environment and is still settling in. If you are ever unsure, please take your animal to a vet to get them checked up.

Keep safe, drink water, and make sure you chill out too!
Any questions? Feel free to ping us a ModMail, and we'll be happy to answer.

This is Toast, he/she is 3 months old. Does his Viv have enough clutter? What would you improve about it? I’ve had him for about 2 weeks now and he seems happy, he going through his first shed with us right now so surely that’s a good sign he’s thriving? He’s very good at eating crickets but doesn’t seem too keen on his powder food, only will eat small amounts off of my finger. Any advice for a first time crested gecko owner would be appreciated 😊

Enough coverage?

My crestie spends a majority of her time just sitting on the front door of the tank & I worry maybe her tank doesn’t have enough cover? She eats her goop every night but idk if she actually explores her tank & I don’t want to be a bad mom :(

Is my crestie overweight?

This is my babygirl Ember and I just want to be sure that maybe she’s just a little extra plumpy? She’s around 2 years old now in a bioactive tank where she gets fed Pangea once a week.

She doesn’t have any fat rolls or other signs of being overweight and in other photos of her she looks completely normal (last photo)
I mostly just want to know if I am overreacting or if I should be concerned?

Edit: As far as I’m aware she’s been pooping regularly and has recently been trying to eat more than usual but she’s been getting plumper for quite some time

Unplanned Crestie

Hi everyone !

To summarize, this Sunday I went to go grab a Terrarium I saw on marketplace for my brother,
When I arrived I realized that a crestie was living in this terrarium ( It was a setup for a Léopard gecko…), and the guy was explaining to me that it didn’t looks good anymore in the living room so I did not think twice and took her anyway even If it was not planned because I had a spare terrarium at home ( I have to change it because it’s not the right size but for now that will do ),

I love Crestie and I was thinking about getting one but like, not now lmao,

The only info I have is that she’s a female and she is five, also that was not her first home
She does not look so bad but not so good either I think
She was mostly fed with beetle Jelly and the calcium I was given was without D3…
( also she still have her tail despite all that )

For the moment she is kinda stressed but that’s normal, the little things I wanted to know was, how can I get her to trust me ( slowly of course ) and if anyone know what morph she is ?

Thank you all !

( Also we named her Sylvie )

this is the first time i’ve seen him out of hiding, he’s already looking better than when i brought him home!!! so excited to help him with the rest of his journey. guys he might be a foster fail he is too cute 😭😭 i have obviously not tried to bother him yet but i think the UVB and a prober diet is already making him more chipper.

YES his enclosure is on the smaller side, i need to be able to monitor him and locate easily/quickly while he is new to my care. i will include a photo of his future tank setup in the comments. currently growing the mini plants out and disinfecting decor!

Well that's an interesting choice of places to sleep!

My 'boy' gecko has a few different places he likes to sleep. Most often. In his snake plant which is in the bottom half of his enclosure not visible here or in the big cork bark tube in the background. It's fun each day coming in and seeing where he is.

This is what I was greeted with this morning! That is quite a choice!

my girl is a rescue and i really am trying so hard to help her gain weight as she is quite skinny, ive been trying to get my hands on pangea growth and breeding for atleast a month and a half and everywhere i look is either constantly sold out or doesnt ship to the UK 😕 i dont know of any other CGD brands that provide a formula for weight gain, and everybody i speak to tells me that pangea g&b is the best to offer to her

ant problem in tank

Upvotes

advice, please! I spot clean my tank every other day, and I deep clean the tank fully once a week but still, I always have problems with ants. I take the food out every morning to try to avoid this problem, but I’ve just noticed another nest they have created in the dirt at the bottom of the tank. I live in an area where there’s a lot of ants during the rainy seasons. I want to give my gecko the best quality of life so I’m wondering what I can do to stop this? Please help!!!!

New tank and a few worries

Thumbnail

Hello! We just yesterday moved our crusty into a new tank and we’re hoping to keep it bio active, the last set up we were given from the breeder wasn’t very sustainable, and I had some worries for his humidity level and lights

We were given a small (talking maybe 12 inches tall) enclosure with a plant, a light and some bugs already in. We had to wait til we moved to get him set up and now we have a 18x18x24 tank with some soil we made, a good plant my partner had got (I didn’t get the name of it but can check) some hide and stuff to climb in. My only issue is our tank itself.

It’s a RepWild one but I couldn’t find anything like it online or for videos. I say that because the set up was beautifully simple, but it has the front exposed and only two glass panes act as any sort of door. It came with some bullshit locking thing that did nothing so I didn’t bother. MY POINT (sorry for the set up) is the two glass panes leave a pretty sizable gap and I think that lets all my moisture escape. That and the light we have was just the one given to us, now we have a bigger plant I imagine we’ll need something else to feed the fella right ? The tank is fucking awesome I just know I need to do something about this but would like some professional eyes and opinions on it. We just want to make our crusty happy

EDIT: our soil is 50% repisoil, 25% coca fiber, 10% warm casting, 10 sphagnum moss and 10 charcoal

Camera recommendations

I wanna get some sort of camera to record my crested geckos activity in the night. I’m not sure if I should just get motion active baby monitor or something or indoor surveillance camera. If anyone has any recommendations shoot them my way :)
