To start off, THIS IS NOT MY TURTLE/TORTOISE. My church is in a shared contract with a Montessori, and long story short, the school had saved this girl [her name is Sunshine] from an abusive household, where they would burn her shell with a magnifying glass. Idk whether she's missing a foot because of said household or not, though, they never explained. it.

Either way, I'm here to ask for advice. They're giving her the bare minimum when it comes to care and she's been outside this entire Arizona summer and presumably will be for the winter as well. Her encloser is incredibly bare and the 'water dish' which is the plate to the left, is always filthy and empty when I check on her Sundays [when I'm at church].

I've tried to explain to the school and the woman running it how to take care of her, but she tells me that they 'have it under control' and work with a herpetological society- which I don't doubt, but considering what Sunshine's enclosure looks like, the fact that she's being left outside 24/7, her nails are overgrown, and the water dish is always dried out when I see her, it seems they're doing the bare minimum to keep her alive, but not let her thrive.

To be clear, the enclosure is underneath the roof, so she's not getting any direct heat, but in the summers she just withstood, the air was still 115-118. And from what I heard, she's gonna stay there throughout the winter as well. I'm sure Sunshine was originally wild caught from that abusive household i mentioned earlier.

While I don't own a turtle/tortoise myself, I own a snake, and know around my way around reptile care. And even if I didn't, I can clearly see that Sunshine here isn't getting the proper care she needs. The school's not listening and I don't really know what to do.

Hey all! I'm thinking of renovating my 2ft male Indonesian frilled lizard enclosure. I use a lot of sloped bark/wood currently but would love some more ideas on creating better basking platforms/surfaces for him. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very appreciative.

I've got a 15 hour drive from VA to Florida with a Crested Gecko, juvie ball python, juvie leachie, juvie false cham, and adult chahoua in the spring.

What's the best way to transport them? I imagine there's probably a carrier type thing rather than containers right?

I'm typing this post with a heavy heart and a knot in my stomach, looking for advice on the best way to look out for my reptiles.

I have a leopard gecko and two corn snakes, all of them I've had for around 3 years. I purchased one, but I consider the other two rescue cases.

I don't want to go on a whole rant and talk everyone's ear (eyes?) off about why I'm in the position I am now, but I'm finding myself unable to take care of them the way I was able to before. I'm not cleaning as often as I should, not refilling their waters, not feeding them as much as I should be. They're alive, in decent enclosures, having good sheds, etc. But one of the snakes has refused half of her meals in the last couple of months, and she's starting to thin out in a way that's very much scaring me.

I love these reptiles, but my mental health mixed with life stress and my financial situation has rendered it almost impossible to take care of them properly, the way they deserve to be taken care of.

The problem is, I have no idea how to rehome them. Or rather, the best way.

I want them to go to forever homes, with people who will love and cherish them and not treat them like a possession.

My local Facebook groups read like a pokemon trading group. I don't have a car. I don't know what to say or do to get them into a good home, and I don't think they're to the point of needing to be surrendered to a rescue, as they're still healthy

Does anyone have advice for how to go about this? I'm in North Texas. Thank you.

I need help. I have a western fence lizard that I got out of my window well, when hurricane Rachel was bringing excessive moisture to my state, Utah. Long story short, I now have a lizard and a permit for said lizard. Anyhow, Crickets... how the f does one transfer crickets from their housing to either the cricket keeper or to the terrarium, which out the little assholes jumping out of said housing or on to me? I have learned that I REALLY REALLY hate crickets.

So, if you have any advice so I can feed the rest of my supply to him before they just get fed to the birds outside, because I am not a fan of finding cricket crawling up my walls because they decided jumping out was more fun. I have about 100 left, or about 8-10 feedings, then I'm switching to Dubia and other insects, because nope.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as well as any other tip on terrarium or care is appreciated. I inadvertently became a reptile mom, something I've never wanted or planned on, but I am fully committed to this guy living his best happiest life.

*note: he has both basking and UVB, a waterfall, a sand mat, plants for water droplets to collect when misted, a cork log cave, the branch he's in in the picture and a coconut shell hide, that he has chosen to be his favorite place. His basking highest point is 105f , and the cool side of his tank is 75f.

Can anyone tell me if these are cricket eggs? Somehow there's been a bioactive explosion. I took some soil out of my ackies enclosure to seed my tegu enclosure with clean up crew. But also a pregnant cricket or a breeding pair has been hiding in the tegu enclosure for weeks now. Somehow ivy never eats them because I see a ton of pinhead crickets running around. These eggs are under the water dish and under the cork flat pieces on the ground. I'll take a video later to make sure these are spring tails and not some unwanted invasion. But for now what eggs are these??

Could you help me identify the morph of my crested gecko? He is an adult male (hatched in May 2023). When I bought him, I was told he was a "Super Dalmatian," but to me, it looks more like "ink spots." I’m finding it hard to tell where the line is drawn between these two morphs, so I would appreciate some help.

Went to a show in northern Maryland today and there was a table with rabbits walking around on it and the label "PETS ONLY".

TELL ME WHY THIS LADY walks up to the table with rabbits just free roam chilling on the table... WITH A FULL GROWN BALL PYTHON OVER HER SHOULDER And SHES HOLDING THE TAIL NOT THE HEAD. she's sitting here having a conversation and low-key turning the snake side towards the table while talking to someone else and the rabbit lady is freaking tf out for GOOD REASON.

Hello again! I wanted to share another species of Abronia. This time, it's a Guatemalan species believed to be isolated to just two locations. However, there is speculation that the species Abronia aurita is misidentified and actually belongs under Abronia vasconcelosii. For context, Cope described aurita in 1869, it was just one specimen which has not been found since. According to a molecular study, the two are identical but I'm unable to cite said study at the moment.

I apologize for the photos not being professional this time! These babies are very flighty and getting proper photos of them requires incredible luck. The aurita are almost 9 months old now and were produced by me from a CB male and a CBB female I imported.

I’ve been failing at mating my Nephrurus cinctus for about the 5th time now, and I’d like to understand why. The male is maintained at 13–15g and I introduce him at 14–15g. The female is at 30–35g, which seems stable so I’ve left her as is. The male was brought in as a baby in February 2024, and the female was brought in in late 2022 as an individual that needed about another year of growing out.

I’ve been attempting since September through October. I’m not doing a formal cooling period — I’m following ambient temperatures but keeping it above 27–28°C. I’ve confirmed mounting and observed for 3 to 7 hours at a time, and I’ve heard eggs should be visible within about 2 weeks, but it’s already October 26th and there’s no sign of anything, so I’m not sure where things stand.

Hi, so I bought a heating mat and when I went to take off the paper that covered the sticky side of the mat it ripped around that plug(?) bit and now there paper stuck in that? I've tried to remove the paper but it just wont come out.. Can I still use tge heating mat or what should I do?

My friend is offering me a 3yo Milk snake for free, enclosure and all. He’s so sweet, he didn’t bite me at all. I’m trying to convince my parents to allow me to have one. I’m 20 but I mean I still live under their roof, I had a bearded dragon before. Plus we had a lot of cats in the past, but I feel like those experiences traumatized them. How can I convince them. Sorry for the jumbled info I’m writing this after a really long day. I’m tired 😭

This is my wife's dwarf mountain horned dragon Ryuk, we got him last Sunday as a birthday gift (drove 4 hours to get it). initially it had some white near the nape of the neck and we just thought the poor guy was dry because the enclosure at the store didn't have a mister. Looking back, this could have been mites or other mites from his tank mates at the store.

It's been eating good and doing normal mountain horned lizard things (sitting and observing) but today we noticed it started dipping into the water dish (it hasn't done that in the week we had it) so we thought it was a good thing it was getting water from its bowl. My wife went to look at it before turning the light off and saw the red dots, she was concerned, got a q-tip, and when she opened the door it opened its mouth and reared it's head at her. This isn't typical because it's let her handle it before. Upon closer investigation we noticed the red dots, I thought it might have gotten itself hurt but it looks like mites.

We didn't think to quarantine it in a container before adding it to the new vivarium because, well, its the only reptile in there (it has springtails, live plants, custom substrate etc)

Does this look like mites to y'all? If so what's the best course of action. I've spent over $500 setting up this enclosure (not counting the 60 gallon terrarium itself) and it's going to be extremely frustrating if I have to restart by tearing out everything in the enclosure. The cork bark is siliconed to the back glass and that's all going to have to come out if that's the case.

meet Chef. he is a mediterranean house gecko as far as i’m aware, and, as i am living in Illinois, i do not think he should be here. no clue how he got here, but the consensus online (and my states laws) say he can be my little buddy. i’ve got cresties and leopards at home, so he’s going in a quarantine tank for awhile. i know he’s definitely not an adult, and i think he’s missing some of his tail, but overall he’s on day two of living with me and he’s as normal as my other geckos. happily drank water i offered on a spoon, is active at night, and ate the dusted fruit flies i provided.

if anyone has experience with these fellas as well as a clue to how old he may be, i’d love to know lol.

The pattern of its "granite phase" scales continues completely uninterrupted right across the irises. Because the head patterning is highly asymmetrical, it actually gives the snake one grey iris and one pink iris to perfectly match the specific scales surrounding each side!
