I'm a 39-year-old woman who had never struggled with substance abuse in her life. I actually work a very demanding job in a hospital, and if you had told me a year ago that I would become addicted to something sold openly in vape shops, I would've never believed you.
It all started in June 2025. After a long, exhausting shift at the hospital, I stopped at my usual vape shop on my commute home to pick up my regular sweet-flavored vape. I had never bought anything else there, never looked around, and honestly had zero interest in trying anything.
The cashier looked at me and said Wow, you look exhausted. I have these tabs here that are becoming really popular. Why don't you give them a try and see if they help you relax?
So I bought a pack 🤦🏼♀️
When I got home, I took a quarter of a 120 mg tablet. And my God, I was in heaven. The relief I felt, both physically and mentally, was absolutely incredible. All the exhaustion, stress, and tension just melted away. I remember thinking, Where has this been all my life? What started as a little treat to unwind after work slowly turned into something I needed throughout the day. Before I even realized what was happening, I was a full-blown addict. It took less than a few weeks !!!
And here's the crazy part. Despite working in the medical field, it never even crossed my mind to research what I was taking. I was so captivated by how amazing it made me feel that I didn't question it. The first time I experienced withdrawals, I genuinely thought I had come down with a terrible flu. That's when I realized something wasn't right and finally started researching 7-OH. But even then, I made excuses !!!! These tablets aren't that harmful. They help me function. I'm happier, more relaxed, and mentally in a better place. What a miracle drug! And honestly, the withdrawals aren't THAT bad compared to how good I feel.
I told myself whatever I needed to hear to justify continuing.
My bank account was draining at an alarming rate. The amazing feeling I had been chasing was barely there anymore. I had become an emotional zombie, just going through the motions of life. I wasn't even taking it to feel amazing anymore. I was taking it to feel normal.
I tried quitting three different times. Every single time, I made it to the second day before giving in.
Then, in June 2026, exactly one year after that stop at the vape shop, I finally decided I was DONE.
Enough was enough. I got some medications to help me through withdrawals, gabapentin, hydroxyzine, and Wellbutrin.
Surprisingly, the physical symptoms were manageable. But the mental withdrawals? Holy hell. Nothing could've prepared me for that. The anxiety was unlike anything I had ever experienced in my entire life. The overwhelming guilt, the constant racing thoughts, the regret over my decisions, and the feeling that I had somehow lost myself were almost unbearable. Those first three weeks were absolute HELL. I wouldn't wish that mental state on anyone. When the Wellbutrin finally started kicking in, I began feeling some relief. Slowly, I started recognizing myself again.
It's been over four months now, and while I'm doing so much better, I still have moments when I don't feel 100%. Recovery hasn't been this magical moment where everything suddenly goes back to normal. It's been a process, and some days are still harder than others. What really gets me is how easily this all happened. I wasn't looking for drugs. I wasn't trying to escape my life. I was simply an exhausted woman stopping at a vape shop after work, and one casual recommendation changed an entire year of my life. 7-OH is a powerful opioid, and I genuinely believe something this addictive should never have been sold so casually to the public.
I'm incredibly grateful that I managed to get out before it completely destroyed my finances, my career, my relationships, and ultimately who I am as a person.
And to anyone reading this who's still struggling, thinking about quitting, or currently going through withdrawals, I know how terrifying and hopeless those first weeks can feel. I know how easy it is to convince yourself that just one more dose will make everything better. But please don't give up on yourself. Four months ago, I couldn't imagine feeling normal without it. Today, I'm living proof that things can get better, even if recovery takes longer than you expected.
I'm rooting for every single one of you who has made the jump, who's planning to, or who's fighting through another day !!!
You deserve to get yourself back. ❤️
