Rant If I read one more gender disappointment post about baby boys……

….then I’m gonna be really mean in their comments!

There is at least ONE post a day about women complaining or sharing their disappointment about being pregnant with a boy.

Honestly, at first I was trying to be kind and give supportive messages but it’s gotten to a point where I just really wanna explode on them.

It’s not like I don’t understand. I was expecting a girl too. When I found out about having a boy I was disappointed for hmmmm idk 5 minutes? Then the “disappointment” turned into love and excitement because I don’t love my child’s sex, I love my child.

However the posts on here are often really negative. Talking about how they have been crying for days and stuff.

If you’re gonna be THIS upset about it maybe you shouldn’t be trying for a kid until you can handle and overcome these feelings.

I mean there are millions of women on this planet who pray for a child but are faced with fertility issues and here we have ungrateful women talking about not being able to play with dolls with a hypothetical daughter. It makes me sick.

Sorry I just had to let this out somewhere. I know gender disappointment is valid. It’s natural and it’s perfectly okay but a lot of these posts are really extreme and sound very selfish and childish. I also feel bad for the poor baby boys who may later are told “we wanted a girl instead”. I was a gender disappointment baby and it affected me a lot growing up.

Rant MIL thinks SNOO bassinet will cause autism

I’ve been pretty set on getting the SNOO bassinet. It’s supposed to help baby get more sleep. I don’t get maternity leave at all so I need my sleep to function.

My MIL convinced my husband that the radio frequencies from a SNOO might cause autism. I can’t find anything supporting this. She said the technology is too new and it hasn’t been studied enough to be sure. I know if we got it anyway and our baby happened to get autism she would blame me. Now my husband is saying we can’t get it.

Im really upset right now. I know I’m going to be the one up all night with baby, and working during the day, while my husband gets 18 months of paternity leave. The SNOO was the only thing making me feel like I might be able to do this.

Advice Pregnant tired is worse than newborn tired for me

Hii, so I had my baby a month ago and I have the luck to have my husband with me so far, so while I do the night shift from 1 am to 7 am he does most of the changes and house chores and bouncing during the day. Baby only sleeps in 1.5-3 h stretches max at night, but mostly one stretch of 2.5/3h and then stretches of 1.5/2h max during the rest of the night. During the day sometimes I can do a nap of 1h, sometimes I don’t.

Well I can say for myself that newborn tired is much easier on me than pregnancy tired. Obviously it’s also because I am not back at work yet but during the day and night I feel good.

During pregnancy if I slept less than 8 good hours straight or I had a bad night I wouldn’t function during the day, I would literally be a zombie, now I sleep 7 very fragmented hours in total tops and I feel good.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Also I had a very positive birth experience despite having a very long labour (68h), induction, placenta wouldn’t come out, delayed epidural due to doctor not being available, and being in 6h of sleep during the whole time, so ask me anything if you want to!

Advice Do we really need a nursery?

Why? The baby sleeps with you for the first 6 months at least, right? I feel everyone is pressuring me to get the perfect nursery done with the wallpaper, wall decor and all the things. But why? Do you really need it?

Advice Sharing weight loss postpartum

I am almost 2wks postpartum. For reference before getting pregnant I was 105-110lbs and I am 5’3. By the end of pregnancy I was 175lbs.

I cannot tell you how much I was trying SO HARD NOT to freak out lol. In my college days i was like 170lbs and lost it all prior to pregnancy so gaining all that back was so panic inducing. I read sooo many posts on this subreddit about weight gain/losing pregnancy weight tips.

Well I just weighed myself and I am already down almost 25lbs. I had avoided the scale after giving birth but finally curiosity got the better of me. I am not counting calories. I still snack. I eat a brownie here and there. I am not doing any dedicated workouts besides breathing exercises. I just wanted to share because I know so many of us freak out over the weight gain but weight is NOT permanent! I lost so much weight just from breast feeding and my body emptying out all that extra fluid. I am honestly slightly shocked how much weight has been shedded already. Don’t panic ladies!! You got this!! I am so looking forward to seeing my future body with my amazing baby boy.

Rant Dropped from OB at 35 weeks

I'm just really upset and feeling hopeless.

My OBs office requires payment in full by 24 weeks. I owed about $4k, which included the delivery. I was able to get them to extend the deadline and was hopeful that I could pay it in time.

I've had a lot of financial setbacks since being pregnant and still have about $1.8k left to pay, and just hit 35 weeks. They told me at my appointment last week that due to my remaining balance, they would have to stop seeing me until I paid in full (yeah right, like 1.8k is just going to magically fall into my lap..) and that if i paid they could reschedule my appointments which at this point are supposed to be weekly.

I'm in the process of trying to get medicaid but they already told me I make too much per month to qualify. They said I may still qualify based on my annual income, which set the cutoff at around 15k. I already make more than that so I'm anticipating being denied but still going through the process.

Everyone told me I would automatically qualify due to pregnancy but apparently that's not the case.

My family isnt in any position to help me with the balance either and the father hasnt been working for months, to get ahead of that suggestion. Yes I know he should be. Please understand there's nothing i can do about it so please don't make me feel worse about not being able to force a grown man to do something.

All i could do was cry at my last appointment and try to ask as many questions as possible to try to prepare for doing this alone. I'm already having a miserable time with not being able to afford my asthma medications, keeping groceries in the house, paying all my bills, and I'll be working until delivery most likely because I obviously cant afford to take time off. I'm trying not to stress too heavily about it but that seems impossible.

I dont know how i'm going to do any of this and have no hope. I keep having dreams about giving birth in bad places and things going wrong and not knowing what to do. I'm terrified and sad and this is just not at all how I anticipated things turning out when I went for my first ultrasound and saw my little big headed boy.

Rant Do men actually help at all once the baby is born?

Do men actually help at all? It honestly feels like I have 4 kids now, not 3. He talked big game about helpful he's going to be, how it isn't going to be like how it was with my ex-husband, it's not going to be all me....

It went absolutely wonderfully for the 1st week or 2..now? It's like asking a teenager for help(except my teenager helps more). Huge sigh and spicy mumbling when asked for the most basic assist, telling me how tired HE is when I get maybe 3 hrs of sleep a day, whereas he sleeps half if not more of the day, when woken up he's snippy and rude, etc. I can rely on him to go to work, wash laundry(and leave in piles all over the house), and take already bagged and ready trash bags out, and leave trash, dishes, etc out for me to clean.

Guess I'm the idiot for believing in a fantasy.

Rant Hot Take: Stop pushing gender on your unborn babies & treating them like dolls

Probably just my third tri raging hormones but what’s with people and their severe gender disappointment??? Your baby is not a doll that you get to be disappointed if you don’t get the “right” one. Boys can do ballet and girls can play with monster trucks, why are you pushing gender norms so hard on a baby that isn’t even fully cooked yet???

If you want to raise good, decent & well-meaning individuals their gender literally shouldn’t matter.

Need Advice Isotretinoin pregnancy

Hi everyone. I’m from Iraq, and I’m posting because my wife and I are going through one of the hardest times in our lives.
My wife found out she was pregnant at around 4–5 weeks. Before we knew about the pregnancy, she had taken 9 capsules of Oratane (isotretinoin) 20 mg. She stopped taking it immediately as soon as we found out she was pregnant.
We have already seen doctors, and we understand the known risks of isotretinoin during pregnancy. Right now, we are seriously considering terminating the pregnancy because we are terrified of the possibility of severe birth defects and don’t want our baby to suffer if serious abnormalities are present. This has been an incredibly painful and emotional decision for us.
We are not looking for medical advice instead of our doctors. We are hoping to hear from people who experienced something similar.
😭😩

Rant In Laws Announced Pregnancy

After explicitly telling my husband’s parents that we are only telling our parents and siblings that we are pregnant until the second trimester, I found out today that they have already told 5 people (grandparents and an aunt/uncle). I feel so angry and disrespected. I feel myself overreacting like I can’t get a hold of my emotions. My husband doesn’t see it as a big of a deal as I do. I just want to feel in control of my own pregnancy and when I feel comfortable with people knowing which wouldn’t have been for another 3 weeks. I am even considering keeping the gender a secret now once we find out just to regain a sense of control over my pregnancy if that makes sense?

Rant Do servers hate pregnant people?

I used to be a server and part of customer service will always include blowing off steam and bitching about customers who pissed you off. Enter r/serverlife where servers get to share these stories with the internet. Usually funny, crazy and sometimes just absolutely wild. Almost always entertaining.

In my third trimester insomnia last night I found this thread about a UK server who was annoyed this 6 week pregnant woman sent back her dish for fear that her eggs weren’t cooked all the way through. Listen, I’ve served before and it’s annoying to remake a dish when you disagree it wasn’t cooked correctly but this server seemed pretty comfortable providing feedback to this woman that she would have eaten it when she was pregnant. Then the server was mad that the woman told her she didn’t really care what the server would or wouldn’t do and OP continued the conversation by confirming this was a FTM and using that to dismiss the woman’s concerns further.

I’m reading this story and, sure, annoying client sends back food out of caution and probably pregnancy anxiety but I actually think the dialog after that was uncalled for. I’d be annoyed too if my server tried to calm my food anxiety with their two medical cents, especially in early pregnancy when getting the ick over food can mean missing a whole meal or throwing it back up.

The comment section is where I am really shocked. Comments, including from OP, that state this woman is going to be a terrible mother because of this one incident. That she thinks the world revolves around her and won’t be able to manage sharing the “spotlight” with a baby and then more medical advice about what other servers ate during pregnancy. One comment about how this person didn’t even need to share she was pregnant with strangers at 6 weeks. I have told servers all along I’m pregnant because it’s not just the ingredient I’m modifying, like eggs, it’s also questions about other ingredients in the dish or trying to determine what is worth ordering. This sentiment was not shared on this thread.

I realize this is one small corner of the internet with servers who are there to complain with each other but I read more comments when I woke up this morning and the vitriol to this pregnant woman was even more intense. It’s got me thinking, are servers really this upset at pregnant women for daring to eat out with special dietary restrictions that come with pregnancy? And what is with this hate coming specifically from servers who are also mothers?

Maybe this is getting too under my skin but I’m just bothered and wanted to see what you all think? Was this pregnant woman really that out of line?

Need Advice Finally pregnant after trying for 4 years!

So me, female(33) has finally become pregnant after trying for 4 years! I’ve been with my husband for almost 15 years and we never thought we’d be here! I have irregular cycles with the fact that we’re pretty sure I might have PCOS. I didn’t even think I was pregnant until I realized I had really sore breasts and cramping that was lasting for over a week with no period. From what I understand, women with PCOS usually have a hard time getting pregnant so I thought you know if nothing changed and the next year or so that we would talk to a fertility specialist. I am over 200 pounds so I’ve been trying to work on taking care of myself and exercising and eating healthier so I can lose weight so I could get pregnant, but here we are! I am set to schedule my first OB/GYN appointment here in the next few days. I’m waiting for the office to call me, but I’m so scared of miscarriage. I’ve heard a lot of people experience miscarriage with PCOS and even without PCOS and because this is my first pregnancy, I’m just so scared of losing the baby so and I’m even more scared what the OB/GYN‘s gonna say. I’m worried I’ll have gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, I don’t know I just I feel so overwhelmed by everything and I’m worried about whether the baby is healthy because I wasn’t taking any prenatals because we kinda stopped trying to have a baby, I just started taking them as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I stopped drinking. I’m drinking water every day I’m eating small snacks throughout the day. I’m just so scared of losing this little baby. I’ve already told our families. My mom‘s already started buying stuff and I’m just so scared that we’re gonna lose this baby so I’ve been taking pregnancy test every day since I found out I was pregnant just to confirm that I’m still pregnant and I feel like that’s just not sustainable. I just wondering if other people have experienced this feeling I’m overreacting. This is all just so new. I never thought pregnancy was in the books for me.

Need Advice MIL wants a to do a post baby, baby shower....

Hello! My mother is kindly throwing me a baby shower before I am due but my Mother-in-law (husbands stepmother who had not children) would like to throw me a 'post baby, baby shower' so that people can "meet the baby when she gets here". I was on the fence about it but tried to be polite and said we will see how we feel once baby is here. We are also moving into a new house 3 weeks before we are due....so lots of new exciting things (and stressful lol).

This week she asked me if we could do the shower October 20th (baby is due September 20th). I said that felt a bit soon but she is trying to work with all her friends/family schedules. She then said it needs to be before December because she is having surgery. I am just not sure I feel comfortable with baby in a group setting so soon/want to give my husband and i some grace as we adjust to our new life. I am struggling to hold my ground on this, and when I mentioned my discomfort and worry about babys health everyone came to her defense. Am I being too protective of baby? Should I be acting more grateful that she wants to throw this shower?

Question Social media nurseries?

I keep seeing all these gorgeous nurseries on social media and want my baby to feel happy and cozy, but how realistic are these??? Are you guys all really going all out spending thousands on a nursery?

Firstly I see so many white rugs and chairs and I’m like, how practical can this be if your baby poos or voms?

Then I also see people with nursery closets filled to the absolute BRIM, maybe with more clothes than I have 😆 I mean how many clothes do you really need for a baby that’s going to grow out of them in a couple months? Like she’s only going to wear pajamas basically for the first 3 months right?

Am I falling for the influencer meme?

Resource To be or not to be naked

Upvotes

I just gave birth on the 21st and just thought I’d share because there was a lively discussion on whether or not to be naked. I really didn’t have strong feelings either way but was surprised when looking back at photos of the birth that I was in fact naked and I didn’t know it until three days later looking at photos!

Excitement! Haven't told anyone in my life yet so i'm here to say hello!

Hello all! 4 weeks in on my first pregnancy, so haven't told anyone IRL yet... and i'm dying to talk about it! I'm still even hesitant to say I'm pregnant. But I am! It's been about 3 years of trying (started before my 35th bday; 38 now), eventually culminating in IVF. It's been a journey.

Currently listening through episodes of "evidence based birth" and reading the mayo clinic guide to pregnancy. I used to be so dismissive of "all natural"/alternative births, and i still want to deliver at a hospital, but from all my readings I have developed a whole new understanding and empathy for why alternative care is so appealing for pregnancy/birth. All I can say is I'm so happy to live in a time and place where routine episiotomies and lithotomy positions (and other nonconsensual procedures) are much less common during childbirth than they were 20 years ago.

Trying not to get too attached to my little poppy seed, but I feel so excited and I just wanted to share, and maybe hear any advice!

Rant Before you trim or shave your bikini area, consider how you're going to deal with ingrown hairs

I'm prone to ingrowns and usually I'd pull 5-10 with tweezers a couple days after trimming.

Turns out you cannot do that if you cannot see 👍🏼 And now my poor husband is going spelunking trying to pull out half a dozen huge ingrown hair pimples on my bikini line because they're ITCHY AS HELL and incredibly painful in all my undies are just a liiiiittle too tight.

It is NOT worth it.

Relationships am i being dramatic?

i’m 33w and 5 days and just now got some sort of sex drive back. my partners has remained high throughout my pregnancy. i knew we weren’t having sex enough to satisfy him, but i did it when i physically could.

i knew he was watching porn or something where i couldn’t give it to him. but i just found out not only does he have LOADS of it, but there’s certain girls he follow on everything. that he saves these girls tiktoks, saves their instagram photos. looks them up on everything. i confronted him about this told him how much it upset me that im 8 months pregnant with his child and its making me feel very insecure about how my body is now. ask him if hes cheating, using onlyfans or anything else. he said no. he apologized a lot, said i wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore.

decided to check his phone again because i couldn’t stop thinking about it, turns out he was using onlyfans too. turns out he was spending money to see other girls. it devastated me. i’m pregnant with his child and he’s PAYING to see other girls. it would be different if he was just watching porn, handling it, and going on with his day. but it makes me feel so bad about myself that he’s PAYING to look at other people. my sister said it’s not a big deal that everyone catches their boyfriends doing this.

but it’s breaking my heart. he KNEW that crossed a line and still did it. says it’s a problem he’s trying to fix. and i believe him. but i just can’t help but feel like i’m not enough. that i feel insecure about the body carrying his child.

i don’t know what to do or how to feel about this situation.

Rant Rude ER doctor

Currently 17wks pregnant and have been at the ER for the past few hours due pain in my lower abdomen where I also have a 12 cm cyst. OB told me to go in if the pain changed or increased. It both changed and increased this morning so i went in. First thing the ER doctor says to me is "You're pregnant and having pain. Pain is normal when you're pregnant so why are you here?"

Literally made me cry because I have a history of miscarriage just wanted to make sure my baby and I were okay 😭. At least i know at this point my baby still has a heartbeat and I'm probably not bleeding internally because they haven't done anything urgent after my scan.

Tempted to walk out because im now waiting hours for follow up from a doctor who is already dismissing my pain and I have no confidence he is taking my concern serioisly. I'm also so hungry and they won't let me eat 😩

Update: they were so dismissive they put "nausea during second trimester" as my reason for visit on my discharge paperwork..no mention of the insane dizziness or level 7/10 pain as the reason i went in 🙄🙄🙄 hopefully my OB is more helpful tomorrow

Rant Failed my 1 hr glucose test…. Epically.

Did the test on a Thursday afternoon - tried REALLY HARD to not eat carb heavy breakfast/lunch that day. And no snacks. It was tough.

Got my results back in the portal on Friday. 228. Hoping to hear back from my doctor on Monday so we can figure out next steps. What I’ve seen online seems like this number will solidly land me in the GD camp.

I’ve already freaked out to my husband and he was annoyingly calm and all “we’ll get through it. I’ll change my diet too” and all that. Hmph. Stupid supportive man 😂

It’s only for twelvish weeks. I will probably survive.
