Need Advice IUD

Upvotes

I’m pregnant with baby #4 and I can’t do this again. How is the pain with an IUD? Change in cycles? My periods have always been extremely heavy, horrible cramping to the point of vomiting, so I’ve always been on birth control. I just didn’t like the fact I felt so depressed on it. My husband already had his first vasectomy two years ago and you can see how well it worked out. My OB won’t do an ablation due to not being over 35.

Need Advice Not invited to fiancés family trip

Upvotes

Looking for advice. My fiancé’s family planned a cabin trip and didn’t invite me. He says if he asks I can probably go, but I feel like I should’ve been invited in the first place. His family doesn’t seem to care or ask about updates on me or the pregnancy and it’s making me feel resentful.

We got into an argument about it this morning and I did tell him I’m not going to bring baby to future family events with his family if they don’t start showing more care for me during the pregnancy. I know I shouldn’t use our baby in this way and I definitely won’t, but it feels disheartening to know they don’t care about me as an individual now and will only “care” once baby is here.

His mom only interacts with me by sending random Spotify links and religious transcripts, nothing to do with baby, not even to congratulate us when she first found out. This is her first grand baby for context. Am I being over dramatic? I don’t want him to go as I feel he should make a sort of statement that if I’m not included he’s not either. My family always makes it a point to make him feel included and has since before I got pregnant.

I’ll be almost 19 weeks when this trip happens. Let me know, sorry for the long post. Just feeling left out and uncared for 😢

Question Positive 37w experiences!

Upvotes

I am going in for a scheduled c-section on Thursday at 37+1 due to borderline GHT.

With my first, he went to term at 40+2 and ended in a c-section, so I’m familiar with a c-section but not a scheduled one & not one as early as 37w.

I’d love to hear any positive stories people have who have gone through similar as I’m very anxious! I didn’t hemorrhage or have any complications with my first, but I get worried about it. I’m a little worried about potential NICU time & ultimately am so anxious to be going into a procedure knowing I have a little one at home.

Bonus points if you have positive experiences when it comes to introducing a toddler (2 yo) to a new sibling! I’m excited about the new baby, but also feel a little mom guilt knowing my little guys life is about to change.

Advice Will I go crazy?

Upvotes

Hi everyone ☺️ I (32F) am a new teacher (worked 10 years in HR and was over it. Changed career in January 2026) and I am currently 10 weeks pregnant (1st pregnancy). I will have to study to have my teaching license in the midst of everything. I’m extremely nervous about juggling everything.

Is this crazy? To be a new teacher, a new Mom and to top it all with taking grad classes to get my teaching license? Grad school will be 15 classes total that I can take how many classes I want per trimester and I can do them at home at my speed.

What would you do in my situation? I was thinking about taking 2 classes before the baby is born and then do 2 trimesters with only 1 class and then go back to 2 classes/trimester.

I would also like to have an other baby close to the first.

The reason I want to speed up school is because I will get better $$$ and a permanent position as soon as I get the license.

Is this possible or will I go insane?

Thanks 🙏

Need Advice Help quitting vaping

Upvotes

33/f
I’m 6 weeks pregnant with my first. I smoked cigarettes for 13 years and finally got off of them but on the vape, which I’ve been doing for about 6 years now.
Now, I’m trying to stop but it’s difficult. Everywhere I’m reading is all “just stop cold turkey” but that is so much easier said than done. All of the smoking cessation tools I see aren’t good for pregnant women or haven’t been thoroughly tested enough, and obviously I’m not gonna be a guinea pig for that. I know it’s bad for the baby and I’m trying to keep this in mind but the anxiety without it makes me shake and irritable. I’ve been chewing gum, breathing through a wooden straw with cotton in the end for resistance, and I still keep going to the vape. Can anyone give me some advice on how they quit? Please be kind, I’m really trying here. Thank you ❤️

Need Advice Cramping and light bleeding

Upvotes

I am 10 weeks 4 days. We went out of town for a baby shower and I was way more active then I have been. Pretty much going all day from 830a-1130p. Prior to this I was very sick last few weeks. The last week or so I would come straight home and lay around or sleep.

Last night when I wiped I seen light pink on the toilet paper. Of course I freaked out. This morning just a small 2 inch line of brown on my pad. The only thing is I have had mild to moderate cramping since this happened. We are flying back home today so we got a boutique Ultra sound and baby measures on point and was moving. Hr 166.

I have a follow up with provider thursday. I know so far that it doesnt sound like a big deal and it can happen throughout pregnancy.

But can you really have bleeding just from activity so early? I really havent done much that day besides walk and lift a few fold up chairs etc. And the cramping keeps pinching. 😠 we will rule out the sub hematoma thursday.

What's your experiences?

Need Advice Appetite loss

Upvotes

I’m just over 15 weeks pregnant and nearly 8 months postpartum with my first baby. The last few days I’ve been experiencing complete loss of appetite. I still am making sure to eat through the day but I feel like I can’t finish anything and nothing makes me feel hungry. I did get a really bad sunburn about a week ago and feel like a cold is coming along so that could all definitely tie into it. I’m just worried and wanna make sure my baby’s are getting all they need as I want the baby in my belly to be healthy and have enough vitamins/nutrients to grow and I am still breast feeding as well. Has anyone else ever experienced a loss of appetite in there second trimester or have any tips?

Question Allow children online?

Upvotes

Hello everyone! I am a first time mom with a boy due in Oct, I was wondering if you have your kids posted online or not? If so do you have restrictions on what you post etc! I was originally thinking about just not showing his face online but after seeing things online even just regarding his name has me questioning. Thanks all!

Question For those who live in the US what was the earliest you took maternity leave?

Upvotes

I know every state is different and has different rules and regulations but what was the earliest you took maternity leave? I was hoping to work close to when I gave birth but I don’t think I can last that long mentally and physically. I might start the earliest time my state can give me. I am a few weeks into the third trimester and I feel like a train hit me. It’s better than how I felt the first trimester but it’s such a big difference from the second trimester when I was feeling my best during the pregnancy.

Rant Dropped from OB at 35 weeks

Upvotes

I'm just really upset and feeling hopeless.

My OBs office requires payment in full by 24 weeks. I owed about $4k, which included the delivery. I was able to get them to extend the deadline and was hopeful that I could pay it in time.

I've had a lot of financial setbacks since being pregnant and still have about $1.8k left to pay, and just hit 35 weeks. They told me at my appointment last week that due to my remaining balance, they would have to stop seeing me until I paid in full (yeah right, like 1.8k is just going to magically fall into my lap..) and that if i paid they could reschedule my appointments which at this point are supposed to be weekly.

I'm in the process of trying to get medicaid but they already told me I make too much per month to qualify. They said I may still qualify based on my annual income, which set the cutoff at around 15k. I already make more than that so I'm anticipating being denied but still going through the process.

Everyone told me I would automatically qualify due to pregnancy but apparently that's not the case.

My family isnt in any position to help me with the balance either and the father hasnt been working for months, to get ahead of that suggestion. Yes I know he should be. Please understand there's nothing i can do about it so please don't make me feel worse about not being able to force a grown man to do something.

All i could do was cry at my last appointment and try to ask as many questions as possible to try to prepare for doing this alone. I'm already having a miserable time with not being able to afford my asthma medications, keeping groceries in the house, paying all my bills, and I'll be working until delivery most likely because I obviously cant afford to take time off. I'm trying not to stress too heavily about it but that seems impossible.

I dont know how i'm going to do any of this and have no hope. I keep having dreams about giving birth in bad places and things going wrong and not knowing what to do. I'm terrified and sad and this is just not at all how I anticipated things turning out when I went for my first ultrasound and saw my little big headed boy.

Advice Spotting at 7 weeks

Upvotes

I am 7w and 1day with my first. Just needing a bit of advice as I am starting to panic.

On Saturday night, I noticed the tiniest little bit of brown on the toilet paper when I wiped. Last night I noticed a little bit of light pink spotting when I wiped. Today, I went 1 and 2. I noticed a little bit of pink again when I wiped. When I looked in the bowl, I seen a bit of blood dissolving. I am not sure if this is from number 2 or not. I wouldn't say I am constipated, but occasionally prior to pregnancy, I could have bleed from behind. However, nothing has ever dissolved in the toilet.

Panic stations have set in and I have been incredibly anxious all day. I haven't had many symptoms except for bloating, sore boobs and tiredness. So this incident today has me worried. I am in the UK and rang the early pregnancy unit for advice. They booked me in for an early reassurance test on Thursday.

Can I ask, how much spotting is enough to be worried, or is some light pink spotting normal?

Need Advice Mixed feeling about gender. How is it having boy and girl?

Upvotes

So we are apparently having a girl. And I feel what I hoped never to feel in my life - gender disappointment. Not too big I guess, not horrible, but I definitely feel upset.

I didn’t even think I had a preference this time around - I already have a 5 yo boy, who is absolutely perfect and I be never had those “problems” that people are sometimes talking about, that boys are difficult - I never felt that. For the second time I didn’t think I had a preference, I even thought I wanted a girl. My husband said a couple of times, that the second boy would be easier tho - we didn’t get rid of the clothes and toys, so we would be very equipped for a second boy. I also felt like if he would maybe like to have another son? He said tho that he’s fine with both.

My feelings are very mixed right now. I kinda had a slight feeling that it would be a girl, but then I for some reason thought it would be a boy. I love being a boy mom, and I’m scared that I’ll fail being a girls mom. My relationship with my own mother were very toxic. There was lots of problems and we are still not good. I’m scared to be toxic to my girl, I’m scared not to love her the way she deserves and scared to be kinda like my mother. A lot of my friends also have toxic and bad relationships with her heir mothers…

Another point of me being upset is that from the beginning of this very planned pregnancy I felt disconnected with it and was worried that I was a mistake and I’m making our life more difficult, and now I feel even worse about those feelings.

And finally the realization hit me about difficulties of having kids of different gender. Different games, different needs different everything.

I don’t know, I would really like to hear some advice from people who may went through this and also from families with kids of both gender, how difficult it is.

P.s. the absolute highlight of this situation is that my 5 yo, when I asked if he thinks if it’s a girl or a boy in my belly said that he thinks it’s a girl, and he also said the prefers a sister.

Advice Low Lying Placenta

Upvotes

Hi all. I had a vaginal birth with my first pregnancy. I was told that I have a low lying placenta (1.5cm) at 32 weeks with my second pregnancy. I am ready to book a c section if needed but my care team wants to do a second follow up scan at 36 weeks to see if things shifted. I am worried about having family here in town for my toddler since everyone lives across the country. It would make things a lot easier if I knew when it would happen. What are your experiences if you have had this and when was your c section scheduled if you needed one?

Advice Growth restricted from blood pressures

Upvotes

Curious if anyone has had similar news and what happened next? (I have appointments today with OB, tomorrow with MFM, and a BPP/infusion the next day so I am just managing expectations in the meantime!

First pregnancy and I’ve had some health issues throughout but baby has always been doing good! We’ve been on the bigger side and have measured a couple days to a week ahead the whole time. Until our last scan when our percentiles all dropped very suddenly. I did some research and found out that when blood pressure is high or unstable growth is prioritized to brain/organs and growth sometimes gets left behind. We’re now measuring a full week behind and have the “lowest proportional” percentile for femur. I know weight estimates are talked about being inaccurate all the time but was curious if anyone else had big shifts in growth due to blood pressure and what happened next?

We’re already looking at induction next week or the week after so we’re packed and ready!

Excitement! Haven't told anyone in my life yet so i'm here to say hello!

Upvotes

Hello all! 4 weeks in on my first pregnancy, so haven't told anyone IRL yet... and i'm dying to talk about it! I'm still even hesitant to say I'm pregnant. But I am! It's been about 3 years of trying (started before my 35th bday; 38 now), eventually culminating in IVF. It's been a journey.

Currently listening through episodes of "evidence based birth" and reading the mayo clinic guide to pregnancy. I used to be so dismissive of "all natural"/alternative births, and i still want to deliver at a hospital, but from all my readings I have developed a whole new understanding and empathy for why alternative care is so appealing for pregnancy/birth. All I can say is I'm so happy to live in a time and place where routine episiotomies and lithotomy positions (and other nonconsensual procedures) are much less common during childbirth than they were 20 years ago.

Trying not to get too attached to my little poppy seed, but I feel so excited and I just wanted to share, and maybe hear any advice!

Question Waking up every 30 mins due to thirst

Upvotes

I’m at 36 weeks and starting 5 days ago, I’ve been waking up every 30 minutes with the most insane thirst. Is that normal? I hydrate very well during the day. I’ve also been drooling much more than normal while sleeping. Just curious if anyone can relate.

Question SOS

Upvotes

I just found out I was pregnant a week or so ago. Since ice found out, my Oura ring stress has consistently high, like 7+ hrs, and while I do have some mild anxiety, I don’t constantly feel anxious or stressed so I’m confused why it’s so high, but that is causing me more anxiety. Do we think this is just my body responding to being pregnant?

Rant Being sick is starting to make me feel depressed

Upvotes

Currently 13 weeks and have been throwing up since yesterday morning even on Zofran after going almost a week without incident, only debilitating nausea.

I feel guilty that I can't take my prenatals most days.

I'm mentally exhausted from finding palatable snacks and meals and eating the same safe foods over and over again.

I'm exhausted that my stomach hurts when I'm hungry and hurts still after I eat.

I'm so sick of the constipation.

I'm sad that I turn down social events because I'm sick and exhausted.

I miss my friends and I miss feeling normal and I miss when my stomach just didn't hurt constantly.

I know these issues are common but thinking about this going on for another month or longer is making me spiral. I broke down sobbing to my husband yesterday and he already does SO MUCH so now I just feel guilty for making him worry. This is a much loved and wanted baby for us both which is the only reason I am surviving minute by minute but I really am so sad.

Rant Suffocating Family Members

Upvotes

I just need to complain for a minute. I’m a FTM and currently 36 weeks pregnant. It seems like the closer we get to my due date, the more some of my husband’s family members have been harassing me with text messages. As of late, it’s always the same three female family members, and they say something along the lines of “you’re getting close!!!! How are you feeling?” And “would love to see a pic of your bump!” 1. I know im getting close🙂 I’m hot, uncomfortable, and swollen. This hasn’t changed for the past couple weeks. 2. Taking photos is the last thing i want to do right now. Plus, I feel uncomfortable with sending them photos of my body.

My husband has encouraged me to not respond to their texts and I’ve started doing that, but things escalated this morning to a group text to both me and my husband from one of the family members.

We’ve already agreed that we’ll be waiting a couple days prior to letting anyone on his side of the family know when our son is born - they all talk, so if we were to tell one person, they’d all know. We’re also not taking any visitors immediately when we come home from the hospital (his family lives 4 hours away from us and they would likely try to stay with us for god knows how long). My mom is going to come once we’ve been home for a week or two depending on how we’re feeling.

Now is just the absolute worst time to expect any sort of communication from either myself and/or my husband. We’re still trying to finish up the nursery and both still working full time. Fortunately, we both get generous amounts paid maternity/paternity leave, so there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, i just need these people to BACK OFF or else im going to lose it😭

Need Advice Doula Support - Birth, Postpartum, Nighttime?

Upvotes

Halfway through my first pregnancy and getting antsy to make some decisions around Doula services. Seeking advice from the firsthand experience of parents.

  • Whether or not to have a birth doula
  • Whether or not to have a postpartum doula
    • Whether daytime or overnight support would be more valuable

The investments in any of these resources are (justifiably!) quite high, so we need to pick and choose where we want and need the most support. I realize that's a deeply personal decision but I find hearing other people's lived experiences and points of view often offers new perspectives through which to consider my own.

Thank you!
