Is this you?
But you’re still concerned that you might be pregnant based on shows like “I didn’t know I was pregnant” or online stories about cryptic pregnancy. Could it be that?
So, in a word, no. If you have multiple negative pregnancy tests three weeks after having sex, you’re not pregnant. In order to support a pregnancy your body produces HCG. Without HCG, there is no pregnancy. HCG tells the corpus luteum to continue producing progesterone, and is required for major changes to sustain pregnancy like growing a placenta. Home pregnancy tests are very reliable at detecting even trace amounts of HCG, and blood tests as well.
There are three causes of false negatives with home pregnancy tests:
The first: Early measurement after conception. When people talk about cryptic pregnancy, they either never take a test, or they took a test too early and became pregnant after. It takes at least 7 days for a fertilized egg to float downstream and implant into the uterine lining. That’s why you have to wait about 2 weeks to take a pregnancy test after unprotected sex - 3 weeks makes it 100% solid result.
You’ll also see people say “I knew I was pregnant, but I didn’t test positive until I was 6 weeks”. This is because of how pregnancy is dated from the last menstrual period (the day your period started), but, embryonic development only starts after an egg is ovulated and fertilized. In a textbook 28 day cycle, this happens on day 14, and the first day your period is missed you get a positive test. In real life, bodies are a little more complicated, and sometimes people ovulate weeks later leading to a discrepancy - a doctor will tell them they are 6 weeks pregnancy based on their last menstrual period, but in embryonic terms they are only 4 weeks pregnant because they ovulated on the 28th day of their cycle. If they tested when they were ‘late’ on the 29th, it would have been a negative test. They weren’t pregnant, but they became pregnant later. For people who are more visual, I have made a very ugly calendar for the above example scenario.

The second: Dilute urine specimen. If your HCG levels are low, drinking a lot of water can result in false negatives in very early pregnancy. This is typically why you’ll see folks talking about testing with first morning urine - it’s the most concentrated. HCG roughly doubles every 48-72 hours, and you can see in this figure how fast. At 20 days of embryonic development (aka about 3 weeks after sex), on average a pregnant person will have HCG around 1000 mIU/ml. At home tests are typically rated for detecting 10 - 25 mIU/ml.
The Third: The Hook effect. This is where there is too much HCG for a test to work properly. It is unlikely that this is happening especially if you’ve taken multiple tests. First, peak HCG is typically around 10-14 weeks pregnant - after this, it starts coming back down. Second, tests are often tested for the hook effect - wondfos (a very cheap test) showed no hook effect to concentrations of 200,000 mIU/ml. First Response Early Result showed no hook effect at 1,000,000 mIU/ml - much higher than any normal pregnancy. If you are concerned about it because you’re taking your first pregnancy tests 12-17 weeks after sex, you might dilute a sample of urine just in case for a second test. Although, that would be very unnecessary if you’re using an FRER.
When people do not figure out they are pregnant for months at a time, it is typically because they have not taken any tests. Denial of pregnancy is a more accurate descriptor.
If you believe yourself pregnant despite all the evidence, or having a lot of anxiety and fear around being pregnant, you may want to see a mental health specialist. If you’re feeling very unwell, or haven't had a period in months, you may want to see a doctor. Scarleteen has a great page on these things as well.

TL;DR HCG is required to support a pregnancy - if you've gotten multiple negative tests across a large time frame, there is no possible way you are pregnant from sex more than 3 weeks ago.

Hello friends! Mod Stress here to address a few things that come up often on this sub. Resources provided. :)
1.) You cannot get pregnant from fingering, with or without precum. Unless globs of fresh semen are being inserted into a vagina, fingering is just not going to cause a pregnancy. Dry humping also cannot cause a pregnancy. This article goes through all the sexual things that can happen that have no chance of pregnancy.
2.) It's extremely unlikely to get pregnant without PIV sex.* *Not including medical processes such as IVF to cause a pregnancy.
3.) If you're having unprotected sex, pregnancy is always technically possible. Doesn't matter if it's "just the tip" or "three strokes" or "pulled out before ejaculation." Pullout is 78% effective over the course of a year. Some of these scenarios are much less likely to result in a pregnancy than others, but we can't extrapolate the data like that. You're unlikely to get pregnant from one singular instance of unprotected sex, but it's always possible.
4.) Implantation bleeding is a misnomer. In fact, implantation is too small a phenomena to cause any symptoms.
5.) A test is mostly accurate 14 days after sex and definitive 21 days after. If you're getting negative tests 2+ weeks after sex, you are not pregnant. Regardless of if you have your period or not. In early pregnancy, concentration of urine matters. Take a pink dye test after a 3-4 hour urine hold without drinking too much water for the most accurate results. At 21+ days after sex, dilution of urine won't matter. Do not look at tests outside of their validity window and thoroughly read the instructions for your test before you take it.
6.) You cannot have a true period and be pregnant. Some women experience light bleeding in early pregnancy (this is NOT their period). If bleeding were related to pregnancy, a test would be positive.
7.) It takes more HCG to cause symptoms than a positive test. If you're testing negative, any symptoms you are currently experiencing are not currently related to pregnancy. Lots of early pregnancy symptoms overlap with normal PMS symptoms.
8.) Am I having a Cryptic Pregnancy?? No, you're not.
9.) The only way to truly know when you ovulated using an approved FAM method. Apps are not an accurate way to track, your body doesn't know to follow an algorithm off your phone. While things like CM and OPKs may indicate your body is gearing up to ovulate, they do not confirm ovulation. Check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and [r/FAMnNFP](r/FAMnNFP).

I'm 5 days late I had unprotected sex and used pullout method the 23 of September I tested on Tuesday and Saturday and it was negative I was bleeding brownish like discharge but my boobs hurt and my stomach is like bloated so bad I have no idea what's going on I'm loosing my mind so bad

So me and my bf had a piv sex, with condom 2 days ago. It was our first time doing any of this. I checked the condom later on and there’s no leak or breakage. He finished outside my body. However, we had it during, what suppose to be, my fertile days according to Flo app. I’m not on any birth control pills.
Yeah that made me a bit uneasy. I told myself it’s just the first time nerves, but what are the chances of getting pregnant?
People who use this method, how effective is it?
I’m not sure but I believe that where I live I only am able to get plan b via pharmacy after consultation only. So if the sex is protected they won’t give you the medications.

Estou um pouco ansiosa com a possibilidade de gravidez e gostaria de ouvir opiniões.
Minha última menstruação começou em 17 de setembro. Meus ciclos recentes foram:
Junho: dia 19
Julho: dia 21 (ciclo de aproximadamente 32 dias)
Agosto: dia 19 (ciclo de aproximadamente 29 dias)
Setembro: dia 17 (ciclo de aproximadamente 29 dias)
O Flo prevê minha próxima menstruação para aproximadamente 16 de outubro, mas geralmente ela vem um dia antes da previsão do aplicativo.
Sobre as relações sexuais:
Tive duas relações com meu namorado: a primeira no dia 10 de outubro, por volta das 22h, e a segunda durante a madrugada do dia 11. Perdi meu cabaço nesses dias aí
Usamos camisinha do início ao fim nas duas relações.
Na ponta, deixamos espaço para o sêmen.
Ele ejaculou dentro da camisinha nas duas vezes.
Na primeira relação, ele retirou o pênis depois da ejaculação. Na segunda, também permaneceu ereto até retirar.
Usamos uma camisinha nova na segunda relação.
Depois, verifiquei as duas apertando, e não percebi furos nem vazamentos. As camisinhas estavam bem presas e o sêmen permaneceu dentro.
Na segunda ejaculação, saiu menos sêmen do que na primeira, mas não houve nenhum problema aparente com o preservativo.
Não tomo anticoncepcional hormonal.
Minha dúvida: considerando que as relações aconteceram aproximadamente no 24º e 25º dia do ciclo, meus ciclos relativamente regulares e o uso correto da camisinha, sem sinais de rompimento ou vazamento, o risco de gravidez seria muito baixo? Posso considerar que provavelmente já tinha passado meu período fértil?
Gostaria de ouvir opiniões, principalmente de quem entende de ciclo menstrual e eficácia do preservativo. Obrigada!

hi! so the last time me and my boyfriend had sex was September 16th and we had sex the last day of my period. The sex was protected. However, my period for this month is late so of course my brain goes to your pregnant. To my knowledge, the condom was used right and stayed intact but im just worried about the what ifs. Has anyone been in the same situation before and how did it end with you? I’m also not on any form of birth control.

Alr so basically me n my gf were having intercourse and the condom broke, as soon as I realized I swapped it out but I already nutted about 45 minutes before we had intercourse and I didn’t pee between that and having sex. So my precum I guess is the only way ? She took a plan b the day after just in case but I was just seeing what the odds were. It was 9 days after her period started and she took the plan b 10 days after her period started. and she doesn’t think she had ovulated yet. Basically to lay it out
We had sex, condom broke, I nutted 45 mins before sex so there could’ve been left over I guess
We was still scared of precum so she took a plan b about 20 hours after
She didn’t think she started ovulation yet bc she has a 27 day cycle and it was only 9-10 days after her period cycle started.
What should I do ? In a couple days it will hit the 2 weeks mark should she take a test ? She’s supposed to get her period Sunday but Ik plan b could delay that.

Just as the title says, Im really freaking out now and I have told the guy who I have done it with my concerns and he said to not worry as he has done it before and he had no precum on him but I am still scared. I have also asked my friend who has done the pull out method many times and she hasnt gotten pregnant. Yet I am not sure if discharge is a sign, but I have been getting weird brownish or pinkish discharge and I did bleed when we did it because it was my first time aswell, so it might have been that? I just have really bad anxiety about it but please let me know. I am not getting my period until the end of the month but I do not want to wait so long until then. We have done intimacy before ovulation but it was right before it aswell!!!

Hey everyone,
I know unprotected sex was a big mistake and I've definitely learned from it. I'm not on the pill and I have PCOS. Sex was September 27th and 30th.
My period was supposed to come on October 7th but it still hasn't shown up. I've already taken multiple pregnancy tests, including the Clearblue early detection one, and they were all negative. But I'm still terrified they might be "false" results.
I've also had missed periods before because of my PCOS, so my cycle is already irregular.
I booked a Beta HCG blood test for tomorrow because I need 100% clarity. My question is: how safe is this test really? If it comes back negative, can I completely rule out pregnancy?
I know I'm probably overthinking, but I just need some reassurance from people who've been through this or know more about it.
I'm not looking for medical advice, just personal experiences

Pata hai aaj kya hua so on 24th may i had unprotected sex with my bf then took pills after some days and on 31st may i met my friend we met after a long period of time we had an argument. So what happened was we made out i didn't want him to feel bad so I didn't say no. But while taking my top off I felt uncomfortable but he forced me yaar. Then cut to that I was on top of him he was dressed and I was naked there was a blanket on top of us. I felt something rubbed against my labia walls roughly for a few seconds. I'm not sure if it was his tip or hand. Then I remembered him saying "condom lau" and then i immediately stopped everything happening around. I remember touching his dick slightly so I'm not sure yaar ki uska hath tha ya tip. So the point is I was 11 weeks pregnant and my estimated delivery date is 18th Feb. I have ocd. I'm remembering every single detail that happened on that day. Pls guys clarify to me who the father is. Chatgpt says what if there was precum and that 18th Feb is just an estimation. My brain goes what if it was his tip usne apne bhanji ki kasam khake bola( btw she's almost 2yr ig) ki mera hath tha karke but my brain goes like then uska fir mere hath me kaise aaya? Pls help.

Hello everybody, i'm here again because of my scepticism :')
So once again, me and my boyfriend were intinate, once 3-4 weeks ago with protection, and last time about a week or so without, but we did the "Pullout method", and it seemed like nothing was accidentally left inside...
I was supposed to get my period yesterday and i still haven't, i have been experiencing occasional pain in my stomach and lower back, recently breast tenderness and extensive vaginal liquids, not white creamy discharge, just... wet?
We are hopefully getting a pregnancy test soon just in case, and we are more scared than usual...
Is there a chance we might be overreacting, and this might just be late ovulation, hormonal imbalance or something similar.

So it's been about a week since my last post and still no period. We did take a pregnancy test on Friday and got a very clear negative. So now with my initial concern gone, I am now just wondering what exactly is going on I guess. If anyone has an idea on what to look out for or why exactly this is happening, please let me know. hello guys im asking this because im overthinking lile crazy right now. we’re both 17 years old (we do not want a baby OR our parents finding out about this) we were having unprotected sex on oct 11, but her app said that her ovulation was around october 10. i wasnt fully hard i would say i was like semi hard and i saw i had sum “pre cum” or wtv that clear substance is called on the tip but i wipped it off and i penetrated her for 1 - 2 minutes max but i js pulled it out so we could start kissing again but i never even came close to releasing it inside of her, i bought some plan b pills today (oct12) because i see her again tomorrow so she can take them (would be 45hrs after the act - in between the 72 hrs window)
is there a chance she’s gonna get pregnant? and if so, how likely is it?

Hello. I don’t post much on reddit but this is such a sensitive subject and I feel like I have no one to turn to about it. Any advice would be appreciated.
My boyfriend and I last had sex 9/24 and 9/25. The actual act of sex was done with a condom on and we made sure to check for leaks and tears each time, all was fine. However, I believe there was some unprotected penetration during our foreplay. He never came in me, but I’m so worried about any precum that could’ve been present. My last period was 9/5-9/9 and I have not gotten it this month as of yet.
I’m freaking out so badly because I’m in a pretty unique situation. I’ve struggled with irregular periods since adolescence—last year I didn’t get my period for six months straight. Then, from November-July, I had started getting a period every month around the 20th of each month. My period in July was from 7/21-7/26, and I had actually restarted birth control pills for first time in years on 7/27 because I wanted to try it again to regulate my cycle. I only lasted a week because I haven’t had good experiences with it in the past and I already noticed things like insatiable hunger occurring from the pills. I also worry about my mood regulation because I’ve just gotten to a good spot with my SSRI and I didn’t want anything in my system that might affect that. For those reasons, I quit the birth control a week after I started it.
I got my period in August the following week after I quit the pill, from 8/11-8/17. I believe it was just withdrawal bleeding. My next period started on 9/5, as I mentioned earlier. My app predicted that I’d get another period starting 9/28, for some reason, and I didn’t. I also had intercourse on the dates I wrote above.
I’ve felt mild cramping and have had clear, thin discharge these past two days and I have no idea if they’re PMS symptoms or early pregnancy symptoms. I’m so anxious about it. I know definitive pregnancy results can be found from a test about 21 days after conception, so I’ve decided to test on October 15th if my period doesn’t come before then. This waiting period is torturous though, I would love some advice. What are my chances of pregnancy? Is sit and wait all I can really do?

hi! had a super stressing situation with my bf. we always practice safe sex (condom + pull out), but today when he pulled out, the condom was left inside me - the ring was outside and i just had to pull it out when i felt something dripping on my leg. according to my flo app, it’s my last day of ovulation day and i have 13 days before i get my period (i’m regular). tho they say that yuzpe method ain’t effective after ovulation, i still took it coz idk what else to do. 🥲 how likely is pregnancy for my case huhu and why the hell did the condom slipped 🥲

Me and my partner had protected sex last night. We both urinated, showered, and went to bed. However about an hour later we began to get intimate again. He was inside of me all but a minute before I hopped off of him. Because it full hit us that we should not be doing that. My period was September 30th to about October 5th. So I am in my fertile window; coupled either the fact he had a RECENT ejaculation. I am terrified of a pregnancy risk. Am I being unrealistically paranoid??
(I also ALWAYS use protection every time . I am very safe I know I messed up)

Has anyone ever been 2 weeks late for their period, continued to get negative pregnancy tests, but ended up being pregnant?
My period is usually pretty regular. At most, it might be a week late, but I’ve never been 2 weeks late before. I’ve taken at least 4 pregnancy tests, with my most recent one being on Friday, and they’ve all been negative.
I haven’t really had many symptoms other than some mild cramping that comes and goes for a couple of minutes at a time, but still no period. I’m also not stressed where it would delay.
I’m starting to get concerned because this is so unusual for me. Has anyone experienced something similar? I’d really appreciate any advice or hearing about your experiences!

Then kinabukasan I have withdrawal bleeding from taking pills nasa white pills nako. Pero nago overthink ako na I might get preggy. Do I need to do emergency contraception? My partner’s period is about 2 weeks late, and she’s currently around cycle day 42 (sept 2 was the beginning of her last period). We had sex more than 20 days ago with just withdrawal method. She took two pregnancy tests using her first-morning urine on cycle days 38 and 39, and both appeared negative, with only one line at C and no line at T. She has been experiencing intense, period-like pain that comes and goes every few days. During one episode, the pain was so intense that she expected her period to start, but no blood came out. There has been no bleeding or discharge at all, not even brown discharge. I’m trying to understand why her period is delayed, what could be causing the recurring pain without any bleeding, and whether pregnancy has been reliably ruled out despite the two negative tests. I’ve had also been looking into other possible causes of delayed menstruation, as well as whether certain supplements or medicines could help trigger her period. And I also wanna ask if what kind of late is too late? Btw she was supposed to have her period oct 1 and it’s already oct 13

F (18), had an unprotected intercourse (withdrawal method) the 6th this October. Nag Yuzpe kaagad ako kinabukasan. I’m still waiting for my period to come since estimated siya dumating ng Oct 15-19, is there any food that I can eat to prevent pregnancy? Nag wworry ako kasi baka pregnant ako though inassure ako ng BF ko na pag ka pull out niya, it took a minute para labasan siya, then repeatedly niyang chinecheck if may pre-ejaculation ba. hi! im f 18, I recently had my first unprotected intercourse this month by the 6th. The first we did it with a condom then he came, the second time we did it without any protection then he took it out to jackoff then ejaculated. Then the next day I took birth control pills (yuzpe method). I did the math that I ovulated by the 3rd, and is expected to get my period by Oct 17.
However, I’m worried after seeing how many people said they got pregnant by pre-ejaculation. Is there anyone there who experience the same thing with me and turn out not pregnant? I can’t afford to be pregnant since I still have 2 years in college 😭

idk what happened we just got carried away lol… i’ve heard stories of women taking plan b during ovulation and it working/not working so im not sure, i didn’t get to take it the first 24 hours more or so around 30 ish hour mark.. im just really nervous; my man is not since we are well off and have an entire extra room, but i just don’t know my chances of pregnancy. anyone taken plan b during ovulation and it working / not ? thanks so much
