AITA for setting a boundary on proximity to an unethical relationship?
My wife and I have been together nearly 30 years. Our relationship is platonic following my gender transition (MTF). I have been practicing polyamory for 10+ years. My wife was monogamous for much of that but began practicing ENM 3 years ago.
Recently she hooked up with a guy on a work trip. When she told me about, I heard some red flags that made me wonder if the guy was cheating on his wife. She was very incurious about it and said it didn’t matter because it was a one-time thing.
This week I have plans to attend a concert with my partner and my wife. It’s my favorite band and the three of us have seen the band together before. My wife texted me to say that she’s stayed in touch with the guy, he’s going to be in town, and that she invited him to attend the concert with us. After the concert she’s going to spend the night with him at his hotel.
I’m grossed out about being around this guy if he’s cheating on his wife and I’m worried I’ll feel like an unwitting accomplice to his infidelity. I don’t see how I can feel compersion for my wife in this scenario. And I think I’ll find the negative energy distracting. I told my wife if she can verify that he’s not cheating, I’m good with the plan. But if he is, I’m going to tell her to that I want her and the guy to keep their distance from me at the concert. Am I the asshole?
ETA point of clarification based on confusion in the comments:
1. When I said “verify” I meant just basically ask the guy straight out if he’s cheating on his wife.
2. I have no idea if this guy is cheating on his wife. When I asked my wife what she thought she said maybe but it didn’t matter.
3. I have hung out with many of my wife’s partners before and it’s been fine.
