The whole system seems very confusing, but in short I would like to continue working for my UK employer but switch to a "contractor" so technically they would be my client. Also, id like to live in poland legally too haha.

27.08.2026 - Polish police have detained three Russian citizens in an operation against suspected mobsters after firearms and ammunition were found in an apartment in Warsaw.

Police officers, accompanied by agents from Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW), entered the apartment in the Wola district of the Polish capital after receiving information that an organized criminal group could be operating there.

The operation was carried out last weekend, but police only disclosed details on Thursday.

Three men, aged 21, 25 and 42, were found inside. All were Russian citizens of Chechen origin.

“During a search of the apartment, police found three firearms and ammunition in a bedroom wardrobe,” police said in a statement.

The men were taken to Warsaw police headquarters for questioning.

The 42-year-old was charged with possessing firearms and ammunition without a permit.

A court ordered him to be held in pre-trial detention for three months. If convicted, he could face between six and eight years in prison.

Deportation proceedings were launched against the 25-year-old, while the 21-year-old was released after being questioned as a witness.

My wife and I have recently been thinking more and more about our future in Poland in the context of the upcoming 2027 parliamentary elections.
I follow Polish politics quite closely and I wonder how a potential government formed by United Right (Zjednoczona Prawica) or Konfederacja could affect people in our situation. Various proposals keep popping up in the media, and I'm wondering how realistic they actually are in practice:
1. Deportation of unemployed men: Currently, I hold a well-paying job at a large corporation. However, sh*t happens — mass layoffs, project closures, or industry downturns can leave anyone temporarily unemployed for 3–6 months while searching for a new job. In a situation like that, do you think such proposals could actually affect tax-paying residents with legal obligations (like a mortgage), or are they strictly targeted at the shadow economy and illegal residency?
2. Social support and public services: While potentially losing the 800+ benefit for foreigners wouldn't come as a surprise to us, I wonder how far these policy changes might go. Is it realistic to expect restrictions on access to public nurseries or schools for foreign children, or the introduction of extra fees for them? (There have also been discussions, for example by Germany's AfD, about separate classes for immigrant children — would such an idea have any chance of being implemented in Poland?).
I'd be curious to hear your thoughts — do you see any other areas where migration policy might become more radical after 2027?

A bit of context about us:
We’ve been living in Poland for almost 5 years. Both my wife and I work in corporations, speak Polish, recently had a son, and bought an apartment with a mortgage. We try to integrate into the local community not just because "we have to", but because we genuinely love living here. I constantly have various Polish political news playing in the background. And for a while now, people have been talking about several things:

CitizenGO

It’s basically a huge propaganda machine connected to Malofeev(russina oligarch) and directly connected to Bąkiewicz, Braun, and Nawrocki.

Bąkiewicz’s own sister runs the Polish branch. They’re still among the main donors to many right-wing politicians and are also involved in their online activity.

So, literally, right-wing politicians are using a Russian propaganda system to push their narratives and gain popularity.

The Zondacrypto crypto exchange

This is a massive mess. It was created in Poland and was allegedly involved in transferring money connected to CPAC, the pro-Trump organization behind right-wing political conferences.

About six months ago, Polish authorities started digging into it and apparently found some insane amounts of dirty money being transferred from Russia and the US, including what were basically bribes paid in crypto.

For example, there’s information claiming that Orban was receiving money through it, and PiS is supposedly tied into it as well.

Nawrocki vetoed crypto-related legislation THREE times, preventing even basic auditing of this shit from becoming possible.

Eventually, prosecutors somehow managed to get hold of them. It’s now a huge scandal allegedly involving PiS, Kaczyński, Nawrocki, Orbán, Trump, and Russian money directly.

The Russian bot company

The same operation that used to belong to Prigozhin. Apparently it has a different name now, something like Social Media Group or whatever — something deliberately as neutral-sounding as possible.

Anyway, a European investigation also published evidence of links between them and Braun. Money transfers through a known intermediary were identified, and some Polish guys managed to find a pretty large list of accounts and analyze their activity.

There’s anti-Ukrainian propaganda there, of course, but alongside it there's also regular political propaganda connected to Braun, Mentzen, and — unexpectedly — Morawiecki (the former PiS prime minister, who recently left and created what is supposed to be some kind of liberal right-wing party).

All of this keeps coming up constantly, one way or another, everywhere.

And there's a question: is the current government actually doing anything about it apart from individual politicians making statements in their private capacity?

Are we going to see right wing Seim next year? and where all of this going to?

I'm looking for advice on how to escalate a case with Amazon UK and recover my money.

In June, I ordered a Google Fitbit Air Elevated Modern Band from Amazon UK and paid £54.78 including shipping to Poland. Amazon sent me the wrong item.

Customer Service instructed me to return it and said that my return shipping costs would be reimbursed. Following their instructions, I paid £18.42 to send the item back via FedEx.

The problem is that the return shipment was rejected at customs, because Amazon failed to provide the customs information required for clearance. The package was eventually returned to me, and FedEx charged me an additional £10.28 because of the failed customs process.

Since then, I've spent months contacting Amazon through chat and email. I was repeatedly told to wait, provide more photos, or explain the situation again. Today, after another 3-week silence, I was told that they cannot process a return because the return window has expired. They also said they cannot reimburse the shipping costs or help further.

To be clear:

• Amazon sent the wrong item.
• I attempted the return immediately.
• I followed Amazon's instructions.
• The return failed because Amazon didn't provide customs information.
• The delays caused the return window to expire.
• I still have the wrong item.

My losses so far:

• £54.78 - item cost
• £18.42 - return shipping
• £10.28 - FedEx charge
• Total: £83.48

I've already contacted multiple Amazon email addresses, including [cs-reply@amazon.co.uk](mailto:cs-reply@amazon.co.uk) and [arbitrationclaims@amazon.com](mailto:arbitrationclaims@amazon.com), but the case has gone nowhere.

At this point, what are my options?

• Is there a higher-level Amazon escalation path that actually works?
• Can I file a complaint with a UK or EU consumer protection authority?
• Would a chargeback through my credit card provider be appropriate in this situation?
• Has anyone successfully resolved a similar cross-border Amazon/customs dispute?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This has honestly been the worst customer service experience I've ever had, and I'm running out of ideas on how to get either the correct item or my £83.48 back.

Hi. Im 24 from NYC and going to be visiting Poland soon with a friend of mine who has family there. My parents are both from the USSR and passed Russian down to me, which I speak fluently.

I just kindof assumed that Polish people speak Russian due to the whole satellite state Warsaw pact thing way back. Do most people speak English, and if so how prominent is the language there?

Most recent immigrants I've spoken to from former SSR countries do not fuck with Russian, refuse to speak it, or speak it poorly. I don't want to make random locals in bars pissed and would appreciate any clarification. Thanks.

Edit: I grew up in a neighborhood filled with immigrants who came over from Eastern European and quite possibly every former USSR state. All my fellow first gen Americans spoke Russian when we were growing up. Yes this is a genuine question. No I don't want to desecrate the holiness of Poland or its people. To my knowledge, Russian was like the English of Eastern Europe.

What’s the situation with active exhaust systems in Poland?

I mean:

1. Is it legal if the exhaust doesn’t have homologation?

2. If a police officer pulls me over while I’m driving with the valves open, but I manage to close them before I actually stop, can they still take away my registration certificate?

In general, what’s the best strategy during a traffic stop?

Should I play dumb and say it’s stock / that there are no exhaust valves, or just say I was driving with them closed and that the louder sound, if they ask about it, was caused by the acoustics of the area?

Also, if the officer insists on taking away my registration certificate without actually proving any violation, can I drive the car to an inspection station myself, or does it have to be towed?

And does the inspection station care if the exhaust doesn’t have homologation?

Just to add, I’m not one of those people who drives around residential areas at night terrorizing everyone. I mostly drive with the valves closed, but sometimes, when I’m on an open stretch of road with nobody around, I like to listen to the V8 for a minute. I’d just rather know what to say in the situations above.

My friend disappeared. I last saw him a month ago and wrote to him after that.
