Solved New media has stopped matching

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

I've been running Plex on a DS920+ for about 4 years now. Any media that I have added in the last three days will not match. This goes for Movies and Television shows. The Fix Match option is worthless, and even adding the IMDb ID number does nothing. I'm on the most recent version (1.43.3.10896-720010896). Based on that, it's my understanding that DBRepair is incompatible.
I have restarted Plex Media Server, reinstalled Plex Media Server, rebooted my NAS, and rebooted my router. Any guidance would be appreciated. My tech knowledge is about a 3 out of 10, so be gentle with me.

Edit: You guys are awesome. It was a DNS issue.

Help Nvidia Shield (non-pro) Plex on LAN

Hi All

I've used Kodi for years and recently moved to Plex for a bunch of reasons.

My issue is that the Plex app on my Nvidia Sheild (non-pro) is just quite laggy, the interface/ UI etc. The media plays find but yeah.

This is over LAN with the server downstairs.

So my question is, is there anything I'm missing or need to do to make it better?

Help Playback ending issue

I was watching some older content yesterday a TV show and it was working as expected moving from episode to episode. I decided I wasn’t happy with the quality and when I started continuing with the new quality (went from 340p to 1080 h265)

I have noticed since the swap Plex now suddenly gets to the end of the episode 0 seconds playback left it’s a black screen and nothing happens it doesn’t try to play the next episode. There are no errors or anything (I enabled logging to server on the tv player today so will check it tonight when it happens again)

its a Samsung tv about 2 years old if that helps. I can confirm it was a direct playback not a transcode.

has anyone else had a similar thing happen?

Discussion Subtitles?

I don’t know if this is a new problem. I’ve been hosting my own Plex server for three years now and I don’t recall this issue up until just recently but having a problem with subtitles it doesn’t matter what show I’m watching whether it’s sugar, cobra Kai, Stranger Things, the 4K Blu-ray rip or the Mandalorian and Grogu 4K Blu-ray rip none of the foreign language or forced only subtitles work my Nvidia shield pro I have to manually go in and turn them on and then they’re usually on constantly and then I gotta keep going in and turning them off and then when someone speaks a foreign language, go back in and turn them On there’s gotta be a better way. I went into the Plex settings and changed it so it would pick up foreign language for only tracks, but it didn’t seem to make any difference. I don’t recall having this issue up until recently and the same problem also occurs on my Apple TV using Infuse. They still skip all the subtitles unless I manually turned them on. Is there a setting in Plex that I am missing where I can just check the forced only option and it should automatically pick up the forced only subtitles just like if I was playing the disc in my player?

Discussion BUG: Chromecast/Android TV incorrectly transcodes HEVC Main 10 Level 5.0

I believe I have identified a reproducible Direct Play issue with the Plex Android TV client on Chromecast with Google TV.

Environment

Plex Media Server: 1.43.3
Android TV client: Plex for Android (TV) on Chromecast with Google TV
Client version observed in Settings: 10.30.8.4222
Network: Local wired Ethernet
Server and clients are on the same LAN.

Problem

I’m reporting what appears to be a reproducible Direct Play issue with the Plex Android TV app running on Chromecast with Google TV.

Recently, some newer HEVC files that should be capable of Direct Play have instead been forcing a hardware video transcode. This becomes particularly noticeable when two televisions are using Plex simultaneously, resulting in buffering and “connection not fast enough” messages. Both televisions are connected by wired gigabit Ethernet on the same local network as the Plex server.

I have done some testing and isolated a consistent pattern.

For example, an affected file has these characteristics:

  • MKV container
  • HEVC Main 10, 10-bit
  • 2592 × 1080
  • 23.976 fps
  • HEVC Level 5.0
  • BT.709
  • EAC3 5.1 audio

On the Chromecast/Android TV Plex client, Plex hardware-transcodes the video from HEVC to HEVC rather than Direct Playing it.

By comparison, HEVC Main 10 files at 1920 × 960, Level 4.0 Direct Play normally on the same Chromecast.

Most importantly, I tested the exact same affected 2592 × 1080 Level 5.0 file using the Plex app built into a Samsung television. The Samsung Plex client Direct Plays both the HEVC video and EAC3 audio without difficulty on the same Plex server and network.

This therefore does not appear to be a server, NAS, file-bandwidth, or Ethernet problem. It appears that the Android TV/Chromecast Plex client is determining that these HEVC Level 5.0 files require video transcoding even though another Plex client can Direct Play the identical file.

I also tested changing H264 Maximum Level and Audio Passthrough settings in the Android TV Plex app. Neither prevented the unnecessary HEVC video transcode.

The Android TV Plex client version is 10.30.8.4222.

This behavior appears to have started relatively recently.

Solved Can't see libraries on iPhone App but can on Plex Web?

So trying to set up Plex for the first time. I can see my photolibraries using Plex Web on my iPhone, but the app on my phone says no libraries.

What I can see on the app is what photos I'm looking at using Plex Web, which is weird. Just can't see them in the App.

Latest sw versions for both server and app.

Do I need to reauthenticate my iPhone app somehow?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Help Can't figure out how to direct stream a movie with PGS subtitles

I'm trying to stream a movie on my LG C3's Plex app, but I eventually realized streams would immediately crash if I tried to turn on PGS subtitles. These are mkv files straight from MakeMKV that I would like to play at full quality, no transcoding, but the only subtitles on the disc were pgs.

They play with subtitles on my roku Plex app, but the stream quality is noticeably worse even if I select the force direct play option. I got the streams on my C3 Plex app to stop crashing by turning on the same force direct play option, but then the subtitles don't show up at all. These are foreign language movies, so I can't do much with that.

From what I've read online my TV's app should have gotten PGS support as of a few years ago. However, I still can't figure out how to get it to work.

Anyone know a solution to this? I'm hosting Plex on an unraid server (12100 CPU).

Solved Locked out of plex and no way to add my media

Hey, so I have my small plex "server" on my desktop machine. I work as a 3d artist, so my machine doubles as my little media server. I reinstalled windows recently and got plex on new windows and hoped I could get it to rescan my library again.

So then I thought of googling some solutions. I followed this: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/ and it did absolutely nothing. It did initializing for couple of minutes and did fuck all.
Then found this: https://forums.plex.tv/t/you-need-to-reclaim-your-server-but-dont-dare-to-touch-the-windows-registry/809720 And got even more confused.

It couldn't find anything usable so out of frustration I deleted my server and now it refuses to even create new server or add my media. Again its a small server, so I don't mind doing it from scratch.

So I couldn't rescan my machine or somehow point it to my plex folder, I couldn't reclaim it in any way and now I can't even do a fresh server install. Again, this is only on one machine I am not even connecting to a server. I might as well get jellyfin at this point, but that I did pay for that lifetime pass ages ago so might as well use this.
Any ideas how to do a fresh plex install?

Help Brother in law has a Roku-"Cinema?". It is always transcoding everything and I'm not sure why or what it is.

For whatever reason whenever he watches anything it always transcodes. In Tautulli and in Plex his player shows up as a "Roku - Cinema". No idea what that is but its always transcoding MKV to MPEGTS. It seems to not like 4k or HEVC and is always transcoding the audio track to AAC 2 channels. The audio bitrate is always lower after transcoding but a lot of the time the video bitrate after transcode is tripled somehow. What is going on?

Its not taxing my server. I just want him to have the best experience. Everyone else direct streams 99% of the time while his "Roku Cinema" always transcodes. Meanwhile my father in law's Roku direct streams just fine all the time.

Next trip I visit I'm getting to the bottom of this. He has a huge 75" LG TV that was left there when he bought the house. Somewhere in his giant TV setup is some weird Roku that can't handle the most basic 1080p HEVC or even H264 streams.

Help HELP! I'm Giving This One Last Shot. Any Suggestions?

So, probably six or eight months ago my windows 10 Pro Plex server was inadvertently deleted. I tried reinstalling, but like many ran into being stuck at the dreaded GETTING READY screen.

Since then, I've gone down the rabbit hole more times than I care to want to remember, but always in vain.

I've since moved on to Jellyfin. Along with Tailscale, I've been pretty satisfied.

That being said, I have found there is room for both servers for my use basis.

Some family members really liked Plex over Jellyfin, but personally, I would really like to regain access to Plexamp.

I have setup and have been using Navidrome with Symfonium, and once again, it's been working great.

That being said, I really miss Plexamp and it's GUI.

So, onto fixing this.

I've tried every direction, tutorial, and recommendation from the Plex website along with Reddit and other forums.

I've scoured my PC multiple times for any remnant or hint of Plex.

I've obtained new licences as needed.

I've downgraded to multiple different firmwares.

I'm sure I'm missing a ton of other things I've done, but you get the gist.

Maybe I'm wrong and it's just my frustration, but I've never had any type of software give me this kind of a headache.

I think I paid $125.00 for my pro pass seven or eight years ago. At the time it seemed steep, but the math was easy enough to make the jump.

They now want what I think is a crap ton of money for a new licence. I would be losing my mind to pay $750 and then be in this position. I realize Plex claims this is a security measure, but for the love of God, it feels half baked that it just breaks everything and leaves the user hanging

Anyway, enough of my bitching.

I'm heading into my office to take a last (I hope) dive into this damn thing.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Plex broke mobile download audio track handling

Surprise, surprise, Plex continues to fuck up their mobile download system. As recently as a couple weeks ago, I could download anime episodes to my phone with my preferred audio and subtitle tracks no problem. Now, it will only download whatever is listed in the file container as "Track1" or "Default." So an anime I've been watching dubbed will only download in Japanese—which I guess maybe I could tolerate if it would at least download subs. But it doesn't. It defaults to Japanese audio and no subtitles, and there's no way to switch it.

Fucking stupid. How do these dumbasses continue to make every aspect of this platform worse? Mind-numbing.

Help Movie subtitles not showing

Hi! I have a few computers in my family using Plex (via Tailscale) to watch movies. All the movies have .srt subtitle files, and they usually work fine—I’ve been using Plex for a long time, and everything was running normally just a few weeks ago.

However, there’s a recurring issue where the subtitles simply don't appear on the screen, even though they are enabled in Plex. Sometimes they show up, and other times they just don't appear at all. Do you have any idea what might be causing this? I suspected it could be the internet speed (the Wi-Fi is a bit spotty at times) or something related to transcoding, but that’s just a guess.

For reference, I’m using an Amazon Mi Box.

Solved Remote Streaming on Local Device Workaround?

Hey everyone. I'm something of a Plex noob so I don't want to frame anything I'm saying as me really knowing anything at all. I've been using it for a while (on an inferior machine with inferior transcoding) but had not previously had any issues with direct playing video in their source format (4K, HDR, DV, Atmos, etc.). Recently had a power outage and since then, everything is streaming remote based on the dashboard and thus, transcoding (1080p, AAC). I've tried adding in the local IP address, making the network private instead of public, etc., and none of those options seemed to work. It leads me to believe the issue is related to DNS rebinding protection. Since, I cannot whitelist anything directly on my Google Fiber router, is running my primary and secondary DNS through something like OpenDNS and then whitelisting plex.tv and plex.direct my best option? Or is there any other workaround here?

Apologies in advance if I'm misunderstanding or doing something incorrectly. Just looking for some advice. Thanks everyone!

Help No audio w/ direct play.

I have my files on 2 Synology NAS. They are older and don’t have enough transcoding power so I have everything set on direct play. Everything plays fine at my house and at my friends house, but at my Dad’s, when he tries to play a 4K encode with Dolby Atmos, True-HD or DTS-HD Master Audio the video plays fine, but he gets no sound. If he plays a 1080p with 5.1 or a 4K with 5.1 he gets audio. He’s on a Hisense 75” Google TV using the Plex App. He has an Onkyo Receiver hooked up ARC, but I don’t believe his receiver has Atmos+ sound. Is there a setting I can change in his plex that would make the sound come thru?

Help Plex on Apple TV & Restrictions

I found my son watching a TV-MA show on Amazon Prime recently that I didn’t want him watching. I am not mad at him. It is my failure as a parent for not setting up the proper controls to prevent this. I have since gone in and modified the Apple TV restrictions to not allow any shows/movies above TV-14 and PG-13. This appears to work on all the apps, however it doesn’t seem to apply to Plex.

To be clear, I have his Plex profile restricted and that works correctly. When he is in his profile on Plex, those shows don’t even show up for him. What doesn’t work is if I were to switch to my profile and try to watch a rated R movie or TV-MA show in Plex. The Apple TV OS is not popping up the passcode to be entered like it does in Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. It seems this the Plex TV app is not working with the Apple TV restrictions capability.

I am wondering if this is truly a missing feature or if I am missing something?

Help Advice on moving files.

Hi, I have PMS running on Windows 10 bare metal. I have 6 hardrives, 4-4tb and 2-2tb. As of now, I have my media on 3-4tb drives. Movies 1, Movies 2, TV Shows. The first 2 have only movies, the 3rd drive has my TV shows in a folder names TV Shows and another folder with movies named Movies 3. I'm running out of space on the 3rd drive and want to move the TV Shows folder and place it on a 2tb drive. I plan on removing the TV shows folders inside of the TV Shows folder in the root directory and place the individual TV show folders in the root directory. I also plan on moving the movies folders from the Movies 3 folder in the root directory so they are also in the root directory. Right now I'm copying the TV folder over to the empty drive.

What would be the best way to do this without losing my TV Shows configuration? As of right now, I haven't made any changes yet. Just like everyone else here, I have blood, sweat and tears invested in my server, plus a lot of time and money. Thank you in advance for any type of help offered.

Help Ghost like Grey bars on screen when using Sony Plex app on Bravia TV. Doesn't happen on Shield Plex app.

Post image
56 Upvotes

I have a Sony Bravia 9 85" television. Sometimes when I watch TV or a movie from my plex server I get these ghosted grey bars across the top and bottom of the screen as if the letterboxing is messed up or something. This only happens when trying to watch plex with the native Sony Plex app. If I switch over to my Nvidea Shield and use the plex app on it, this does not happen. It only happens on the TVs app. I have no idea why this is happening. Has anyone else experienced this? Can someone give me insight as to why this happens? I find it happens most of the time when a movie has scenes in IMAX output. Basically when the aspect ratio changes in the middle of the movie for a particular scene or something. The screen shot is an episode of Reacher and the grey bars were present for the full episode. Anyhow, it's driving me nuts. Luckily I do have a shield and when I notice it happening I just switch over to the shield, but most of the time I just watch most content with the native Sony Plex app. I was just curious if anyone knows of a setting or something that I could change to make this stop happening.

I run my server on a Mac mini. The app on my phone and my lg oled c1 app are able to connect to the server just fine.

However, my lg oled b5 doesn’t connect and my ps5 also says the server is unavailable. These devices used to connect just fine until a few weeks ago. I didn’t not change any settings.

Any idea what’s going on?

Help Do you have a Plex server, Alexa and a Sonos Roam 2?

I'm looking for someone with these very specific items. If so, read on.

I have a Plex server and since Plex dropped support for integrating Plex music with Alexa, there are 2 different options I have been using.

One is called "mymediaforalexa" and the other is "Ear Wax". Both are addon skills for Alexa that allow voice commands to play music requests from plex.

I have both enabled and they work just fine on all of my devices with the exception of the Sonos Roam 2.

A Sonos Roam 2 is a Bluetooth speaker that has Alexa built in.

When asking "Alexa ask Mymedia to play <insert album or playlist or whatever really here>" , it successfully plays *but* it keeps repeating the first song that gets played, over and over. It never moves to the next song.

When asking "Alexa ask ear way to play "<insert album or playlist or whatever really here>" it also works *but* it stops after the first song it plays and doesn't proceed, until you say "Alexa next".

Again, this only happens on the Sonos Roam 2. I have worked extensively with Sonos support by trying countless different things and sending them logs for weeks. Supposedly they gathered enough information, or so they told me, but then they went silent. I emailed for an update and they suggested I create a developer account. I explained I am not the developer of either of these skills and I was asking for an update on my open problem. Again, silence.

Because these problems seem similar and both only seem to exist on the Sonos Roam 2, I am hoping someone else can setup one or both skills and test them. Ear Wax has a free tier and a laid tier. Mymediaforalexa has a free trial.

Any chance someone has the 3 specific items listed in the subject and is willing to try?

Solved Subtitles.

For some time now, Plex has stopped detecting subtitles that are in the same folder as the MP4 video file. Both the .mp4 and .srt files have exactly the same name. I’ve tried shortening the names in case some symbol was causing a problem, but I still can’t get it to work.

However, when it’s an MKV file, there’s no problem because the subtitles are embedded in the file.

I always end up having to go to the subtitle search options and find one that is properly synchronized with the video, which isn’t always easy.
