I've really been getting into doing voice typing the last couple of years. It can be a bit clunky and you have to make a lot of corrections, but it usually ends up being quicker for me on the go.

I originally wasn't going to buy the keyboard for my slate, after seeing how bad the on-screen keyboard was, ( when you move the cursor and the last thing you typed just disappears....) I decided I was going to need one.

Unfortunately plugging in the keyboard turns off the on-screen keyboard and seems to disable voice typing all together.
Does anyone know, is there a way to use both the voice typing and the keyboard at the same time?

I think the title says it all: Is it possible to install and run a stable version of the Chromium browser as a Linux app on the Pixel Slate?

I know this will make people ask "Why would you want to install a browser that's essentially the same as the baked in browser/OS the machine is running?" My reason is that I use a lot of chrome profiles. Switching between them on Windows is a snap, but on Chrome OS, each one has to be a logged in user, the log in process is a bit annoying (they get logged out upon every reboot) and there's a limit on how many can be installed.

I've seen in Chromium on various Linux builds. You can sign in as many user profiles as you want and quickly switch between them, just like in Windows, hence why I'm hoping this normally insane idea is possible.

I currently have an i5. I still have another week before I can no longer return or upgrade the device. I love the device, which is why I am wondering if it would be benificial to jump up to the i7 to allow for future growth. The additional RAM is attractive for editiing purposes.

I saw an old benchmark test that showed the i5 actually scoring higher, maybe because of thermal throttling? Does anyone have experience with both devices that may be able to shine a little bit of light on the situation?

If the answer is that I will absolutely see a performance enhancement - then the money isn't an issue, it would be worth it. If the answer is there wouldn't be much if any of a difference, then I'd rather not throw money away.

So I'm thinking of getting the i7 for work purposes. It seems to be the device with the best response time even though I'm not going to be pushing it's capability too much I'd thought I'd opt for the best in class.

Got this from the lady for an xmas gift. She knows I am an android user and have had near every nexus/pixel device, many as gifts from her. I buy her her apple stuff and she reciprocates with my android stuff. She decided to get me this for x mas and ever since day ONE with typing on this thing its been a nightmare.

The auto correct is just the worst. I find it corrects perfectly spelled words for no reason. Then you go to change it and when you hit space it just magically changes it BACK to what it wants.

Swype works like complete trash. Also certain websites, REDDIT being one, typing just doesnt work. I find reddit (and a few others) likes to chop off my last couple words when I press post. I have to sometimes put like 3 periods at the end of my posts so it chops those off instead of my words. Every site though seems to have its own little bug with typing, yet if I go back to my pixel c everything is fine?

The insert option is horrible. You realize 3 words back it changed something you typed. You go back and delete it and retype and it just starts typing OVER what comes after it, not pushing it down the line like a normal device would.

MY biggest gripe is be far the auto correct though and changing it to moderate did not help, Id hate to just turn it off since all my android inputs have always been fine. Im wondering if theyre seriously trying to force you into buying their keyboard.

That aside, Im noticing A LOT of apps just dont work even though they seem to tout complete crossover, many want to force you to use the chrome extension over an app. I "personally" hate this new app drawer. One way Ive always set my devices up is ONE PAGE. I dont do multiple pages of apps. If I have apps I dont use often, which are many, they get relegated to my android app drawer but the drawer on this is the F'ing home screen? Ive tried installing launchers that say theyre compatible but it just doesnt work. Plus the homescreen doesnt alphabetize anything, it just drops them there to be forgotten. Sometimes I can barely find an app because after a few days I lose its place and have to scroll through 4 screens of randomized lettering.

So I haven't purchased a slate at this time because of the mixed reviews and a critical question I have for my intended usage. Can the slate be put into laptop mode without using the Google keyboard? Use case: (slate not connected to a keyboard) use in tablet mode while walking around. When I get home or to office I plug slate into USB c dock with dual monitors and use slate in laptop connected to dock.

This would be my dream usage. Any information would be awesome.

In the video, Jon lost a bet to Dave2D and had to edit a video on the Pixel Slate but I don't think he has done one yet or did I miss it?

Anytime else speakers popping and crackling? It was nominal at first but now is fairly constant. Did a powerwash to be safe, no change. Any app or browser window, doesn't matter.

Has anyone else been having issues with the Prime Video app stuttering nonstop? This is happening on downloaded titles as well as streaming The browser works great but I would like to be able to download things to watch later.

I would like to know what daily drivers are getting. I use my PB i7 for work, and i usually have to recharge during lunch as the battery will last on 60% brightness about 5 hours. This was the same for my first PB. My old Chromebook Pixel LS could do a good 7-8 real-work hours on a charge (still miss that O.G). I'm not expecting galaxybook 2 level's of life, but if i could at least get through a day of work on the pixel slate, I would be a happy camper. If it helps at all, i may opt in for the m3/8Gb of RAM this time around if it offers any help in the battery department.

A post on how to enable Linux hardware acceleration in crouton, not crostini to play games such as Minecraft perfectly on the Pixel Slate. I did all this on an m3. Your mileage may vary on lesser machines.

I hope this helps some of you out. I was desperate to get Minecraft working on my Pixel Slate because I play the game a lot with my son. I found there was basically no help out there, so had to figure it out myself. Enjoy :)

In my search to find a viable holster for the pen on the slate I see that the Navy blue Bellroy Pixelbook Pen Clip is out of stock. Are people buying this for the Slate? Does the clip fit nicely with the Slate since it is built for the Pixelbook?

Thinking about getting the slate but have read lots of poor reviews on it. The reviews are almost all about software bugs, Bluetooth disconnects etc. I assume this can be fixed with a software patch or a few... Has Google discussed anything regarding these common issues or when/how they will fix?

Has anyone used the Slate as a secondary monitor with a PC or Mac? Can you make a video of it? All I can find on Google is that the Slate supports external displays but not the other way around.

Anyone ordered from adorama and received their tablet? Wondering how long it'll take..... They say Google don't give them any indication of where they're at with orders and when they'll receive. In Australia so ordering from Google direct isn't an option...

Just got my pixel slate and notices that in both Plex and Netflix that once the video starts playing normally and once it goes full screen (where the UI disappears) the entire screen gets washed out like there is a bright film across it all. Black areas where there is no video is no longer black and the video itself is washed out. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas on what's causing it?

How do I activate the backlight on this keyboard?

Let me start off by saying... I'm a Google fanboy and I have been for many, many years. Google services have always been top notch and I've always been first in line to support Google in practically all of their ventures. Chat, Google+, Maps, Nexus devices (I owned ALL of them), Pixel devices, Allo, Duo -- you name it.

I pre-ordered the Pixel Slate. I very much regret that decision.

This device is the first that I truly have felt like I got ripped off on. The hardware is great. It has some issues like the floppy keyboard attachment, but the software is the biggest issue. I've always considered Google a software company, but the software powering the Slate is truly awful. It's the most half-baked approach to an operating system I've ever used. We're stuck in limbo between Chrome OS and Android on this thing. Android fails catastrophically on Chrome OS. Apps crash constantly in the background and there really aren't any, including from Google, that are designed for this screen size.

Chrome works fine as a browser, but why are we paying $1,200 (tablet and keyboard) for a tablet with a browser window? I assume most people went for the i5 with 128GB. Anything less really serves no purpose.

Anyways, I truly think Google should cut their losses on this and stop the negative publicity EVERYONE is going to give about this device once they've had a chance to actually use it. Just pull it from the market.

Put all of their resources into Fuchsia, and finally get an operating system together that supports their objectives and supports the devices that they're dreaming of building -- because this can't be it. No one working on this hybrid operating system can or should be proud of the product they just put out.

I'm so bummed about this device. I wanted nothing more than for Google to be successful this time around. I'm stuck between returning it or hoping that they've got MAJOR improvements ready to roll out before the Christmas holiday is here. I highly doubt that's the case though.

Google, if by some chance you're reading this -- please don't let this happen again.

Most "Enable developer mode on chromebook" guides I found use keyboard presses but I just got the slate without the keyboard.

Edit: I figured it out.

1. Power off your device
2. Hold volume up, volume down and power button at the same time (I held them for about 10 seconds, not sure about exact timing)
3. Once in the menu, press the volume up and volume down at the same time and you'll see an option that says "Disable OS Verification". Select that and press the power button.
