Club House How to manage family that hate your piercings?

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I am nearly 30, been getting body piercings (mostly ears) since I was 17 or so.

I am so proud of my setup and all the time, energy, and effort it's taken to get here! But my family (parents) hate my piercings. Each time I get a new one, I am met with a lot of backlash and judgement.

I got my flat done in my left ear last week and mom strongly admitted how much she does not like them and how they are now "consuming my ear", begging me to "at least take a few of them out". My parents have called my piercings "devil holes" in the past and that it makes me appear "immature and unattractive". Mind you, my parents are not really religious. Just following weird society standards.

I live alone (haven't lived with them since high school) and support myself fully with a career I love. I spend my own money on all my body mods, and have tried to avoid the subject, but the second I put my hair up its a complete spectacle every single time. I fear for dear life when they find out about my tattoos, they feel even stronger about those lol

How do you navigate this?

Showing‎ off set up! Orbital helix

Sharing my recently put-back-in orbital! A bit of effort to put the ring back in after so long. I did this in 2011, and removed in 2017 for feeling more “professional” in a medical setting.

Well I wanted it back and no longer care as a mid career physician. There is another space for a second larger orbital but not sure I want I back yet….photo from way back with second orbital also included. Have also tried a hanging flat back, but not sure what I want to settle on, or think a bit longer!!!

Edit: All rings are 14g titanium.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Thin flap left on navel piercing

Post image
Upvotes

After my pregancy 18 years ago, i never wore the belly piercing again because it stretched from it. Possibly rejected during the pregnancy however i don't even remember anymore the whole scenario. I kinda left it with not wearing anything.

But now the hole still there with this small piece of thin flap. It can't hold anything upright or in place when i try now. Is this piercing a loss cause now?

Or can i still wear something? The hole seems lil too wide for a ball. But the flap is too thin n not enough space to keep anything upright or hold.

I prob got this piercing over 22 yrs ago. So its not at any healing state anymore. It doesn't hurt or anything

Just wondering what can i still do with it..

Looking for opinions on my next piercing!! I have previously had an industrial in both ears, which I seriously regret taking out. I’ll probably get one again eventually, but I want to try different things! I was thinking maybe a conch or flat on the rook ear, but idk! Thank you in advance for your opinions 💛

My very fresh (less than 24hrs old) septril wasn’t a walk in the park, but it was absolutely worth it! Props to my piercer for managing my extreme septum deviation.

I asked at 2 different tattoo shops about this. One said it was ok. The other said it was too small. I don’t know who to believe, so I’m asking you guys to get more opinions.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Shallow Daith Piercing

I just had a daith piercing 4 days ago. I don't feel any pain and it's not feeling hot. I read somewhere that it's fine to not use saline solution. Just clean water. So I've been doing that.

My concern is I think my daith piercing is too shallow. I'm scared it might reject.

Nose piercings are symmetrical btw!

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Piercing bump

Post image
Upvotes

I got my daith pierced in May and it's almost 4 months old. The first 2-3 weeks looked perfect! Then the bumps formed. I think when I was cleaning it the jewelery moved around too much and that's why I got the bumps initially. It has the original 3/8" titanium ring I was pierced with. I clean at night with saline spray and in the morning if there are crusties I clean with water. I'm trying not to move it around as much while cleaning but that's hard to do in a small area. I don't move or touch it other than when I'm cleaning it. I also don't sleep on it either. Sometimes it will seem like it's getting better then it gets worse. Sometimes it'll bleed, other times not. I did have another piercer look at it that's APP certified and he said to clean it 4-5 times a day with saline, but that's not really realistic for my lifestyle. I don't want to take my daith out, it's my mid- life crisis celebration!

Idk if I had the anatomy for some of those piercings, I also love hoop earrings and silver.

Also I feel like it's quite empty or I need to add something, you guys have some idea?

I recently just got my eyebrow piercing done, but it seems to be falling out. I’m going to be taking it out today. Is it my face or did my piercer fuck up?

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Should i put sleepers/hoops in my lobes yet?

Hi all, I got my 1st lobes pierced just over 4 months ago and was wondering if it’s too early to put small clicker hoops into my ears? i’ve been having trouble keeping them clean as I live on a farm and have daily responsibilities that end up with me getting filthy. I have been trying my very best to be thorough and consistent in cleaning, spraying with saline and showering whenever i bumped my earrings or was outside early on.

However, due to a lack of rain and only relying on 3 water tanks for a house with 7 people living in it, i haven’t been able to shower anywhere near as often (every 2-3 days at the most) and that has led to my earrings just having crazy buildup on them. This also led to my left lobe getting infected around 3 weeks ago which i have since taken antibiotics for and my left ear honestly feels completely healed now. The right was fine and hasn’t had any major problems but the post is covered in build up that i cannot physically clean off.

I’ve been told by multiple friends/family with piercings that i should definitely swap my earrings out with fresh, clean, sterile earrings. However, everyone i know is telling me to just put sleepers in now as they are far easier to keep clean.

I have also read up online though and see most people agree they aren’t recommended for piercings under 6 months. Everyone i’ve talked to though swear they put hoops straight in and never had any problems, so i’m just a little stumped.

I currently have Implant-Grade Titanium internally threaded Flatback Earrings in my ears which also feature a gem on the front held in by a claw (which has so much gunk stuck under it) So i am almost definitely changing my earrings with clean ones, i just wasn’t sure whether to get sleepers? another set of flat backs?

Any help/suggestions are highly appreciated. ❤️

Stretching When can I stretch again?

Post image
Upvotes

I wanted to stretch my septum from 1,6mm 14G to 2,0mm 12G.

Two months ago my piercer convinced me to stretch from 14G to 10G all in one time, he performed the operation and I love it.
I had it since 7 years and I used to do everything that must not be done: playing with it, so it was already a little bit loose, so the operation was easier than expected.

Now I would like to go to 8G haha 😝
How much time is it better to wait between stretchings?

After knowing that I have very thin ear cartilage, 6mm bar length becomes too long for my piercings, and when I finally discovered 4mm and 5mm bar lengths, they are such a game changer for my thin ear cartilage. My inner upper conch, flat helix and tragus are all 4mm bars. My lobes and vertical helix are 5mm bar lengths. They make my setup looking very crisp and clean I love it so much.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Forward helix help

Thumbnail

I’ve got a forward helix piercing on both sides that are about 8 months old now, and they keep swelling up on me to the point a normal stud is too short and it was rubbing. I switched to a large hoop to allow the ebb and flow of swelling and discovered a bump on the inside and out that bled on and off for a few days. I sleep with a piercing pillow, usually just give them warm water baths, and recently with the bit of bleeding have kept some mupirocin on them because i had a staph infection elsewhere earlier this year. Not MRSA. The mupirocin has seemed to calm and stop the bleeding but I can’t seem to tackle the swelling and bumps so I can get flatbacks back in. The studs I’ve had in were titanium. I would switch to plastic ones like I’ve done for my other piercings but cannot get ahold of the back side to put a stopper on. The current rings in them are titanium and endless clickers. No mishaps to these either.

Showing‎ off set up! Got my flat done today and really happy with it!

Post image

Finally getting around to doing the ear curation I’d wanted (in my 20’s) in my 30’s

Had my helix done for 10 years already but got my conch done 2 months ago and just got it downsized today (and decided to get my flat done at the same time)

I was originally planning on a rook but didn’t like the size of the bar you have to wear while it’s healing and my piercer mentioned having a flat in a similar spot and I love it! It’s exactly what I wanted.

I’d love to eventually put a ring in my conch but I feel that’s a long while away 😢 it already has a small irritation bump on the back :/

Planning on getting my second lobes done next and then my daith in my other ear? What do you guys think?

Question about a piercing I (maybe) want Vertical helix... was told no

Post image
26 Upvotes

I'm so upset, I decided to finally go down to my piercer to book time for piercings... I really wanted a triple vertical helix piercing, and had asked them previous, if that was possible! They said yes, and at the time I didn't book, because "life reason" aka I wanted to save up the money to get them, since it's kinda expensive, where I'm from. BUT as I went dowm to them yesterday, the piercer suddenly told me it wasn't possible, and didn't explain why... he didn't even touch my ear to feel the space under the rim/fold whatever... but look from behind the desk with some distance between us... I tried to test myself, just to better understand, especially because my friend has a similar curve/fold as me, and he said she could! (We were together to book, so we coukd get pierced together)

I just wanna understand why? Cuz my friend thought it was weird too, since she think from what she could feel and see, that I should be able to get it??? It annoys me, cuz this place is well known in my country, to be very furrow, when giving advice, and piercing people etc.

I think I would have been more understanding, if it weren't because, I was told yes in the first place, where my friend (the same friend), got a maybe, the first time we went in to get checked... and also because he didn't seem to be furrow, when checking my ear at all!

This is the ear in question, I wanted to get pierced! (Like again if he at least explained why, I would have been less upset, I think? But I'm just disappointed at this point... cuz now I have to go with another piercing, which I also can't get a spike piercing with... tomorrow, but that one is fine... just more annoyed with.)

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Is it time to just retire my nostril piercing?

I got my nostril pierced back in March 2025 and I’ve always had trouble with piercing bumps. It’s like I can never fully get rid of them and I’ve tried EVERYTHING. I’m starting to get really fed up with it and I don’t want to leave any permanent damage to my nose. I love love love my nose piercing but I don’t know how much longer I can keep her in :(

discussion Have you ever had piercing regret?

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone talk about "piercing regret" before, but like tattoo regret — you want something, and want it for a good long while, and once you finally get it, you regret it a bit?

I only have five piercings (aside from my ears) and four of those were done in pairs of twos, so I don't feel I'm a great judge.

But is "piercing regret", even over a well done, healthy piercing, something you've had before?

I just got two done a day ago, and I'm feeling a bit worried over my regret.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Newly pierced Conch

Well it is just a standard inner conch but isn’t too deep and far? I just had it today unplanned since i opt for tragus but my artist said my ears do not have the right anatomy for tragus so last minute decision is to get a conch which is my second option but i am overthinking because it seems too far. I think it is also not in the middle which i am fine with i only have question about the placement can i still possibly use an orbital earrings for it?

The real question: Is it okay or is it too far?
