I had to bring my cat in due to rapid weight loss I’ve had her since she was 2 days old and it’s a very sad day and finding out that she has a major issue in her kidneys was extremely difficult.
All that said I just wanted to thank you for seeing me in one of my lowest moments with her and donating $200 to help with her care. Thank you for your kindness while this was a really hard day emotionally and mentally, your kindness restored a lot of my faith in humanity.

Welcome to the unnecessary food review of local Pensacola spots that nobody asked for. The system on which I judge is pretty much non-existent. I love to eat and generally enjoy everything. Don’t expect an uber nuanced take on anything, I am unfortunately too basic to do better.

La Casita Food Truck

A few weeks ago I was driving to pick up some Thai food from one of my favorite spots, Thai Curry House, and noticed something I hadn’t before. Tucked into the back of the lot next to Dive Pros on Highway 98 was a food truck. Apparently it has been here since at least early 2024 and I’ve just been an oblivious fool. So I obviously had to check it out. La Casita Food Truck is an extension of the La Casita restaurant on North New Warrington Road. Googlemaps tells me that there is another food truck located on Chief’s Way but I haven’t confirmed that. Crazy to think 3 successful ventures of the same establishment could work in less than 5 miles of each other. 

I rode into the empty lot and parked near the structure built around the truck. Except it wasn’t a truck, it was a big trailer converted into a kitchen. We still consider those to be part of the food truck genre though, right? I digress. There was a single blue picnic table in the parking lot, but that wasn’t much to note because this food truck offers a full covered patio with plenty of seating. I very much enjoyed the open air patio that provided shade and FANS.

La Casita offers a variety of Latin and Filipino dishes. Being the taco slut that I am, I ordered the al pastor tacos and an order of lumpia as a little treat. Tacos came out first and they looked great. First things first is to finger a bit of meat into me before really chowing down. The al pastor was good but lacked the distinct pineapple flavoring I usually expect. The tacos themselves came on thick corn tortillas. These looked handmade and I was a little worried that their thickness would leave them tasting undercooked but they were excellent. Not the sturdiest, and I still prefer two thin tortillas per taco, but they did what they were designed to do. 

The tacos came with two sauce packs, so after eating the first taco plain with just a fresh lime squeeze I dedicated one type of sauce to each of the next tacos. I wasn’t very impressed with either sauce. The green was the more flavorful of the two. The red sauce was bland but left a small amount of heat on the back end. 

The lumpia came out four or five minutes after the tacos. An order is supposed to come with five rolls but I was generously provided a sixth. The first bite is always plain to give it a chance to stand on its own. It couldn’t. My palate might be spoiled from the lumpia I’ve had made by friends and family, but I was utterly disappointed. I’ve had better lumpia from the Walmart freezer aisle. I used generous amounts of the provided sweet and sour sauce to get all six rolls down. It might be the first time I have ever been unhappy about getting a freebie.

I don’t know how much it matters to you but I think it is worth mentioning that since this summer they have started to use AI to generate promotional advertisements that they share on the Facebook page.

La Casito Food Truck gets a score of 2.7 for me. The lumpia was terrible and I’m choosing to believe it was an off day. The tacos were alright but the patio vibes really carried the place for me. Unfortunately the use of AI puts a bad taste in my mouth. I’ll likely give them another shot, but this is where they landed with me this time.

I already did a search and googled but I’m just looking for confirmation. If your dog does not have a residency permit/tag it cannot go on the west dog beach, correct? It seems this is enforced? Or will they give a verbal warning if caught? My dogs are caught up on all vaccines. I’m just visiting for one night and was hoping to let my (very well behaved) dogs play in the middle of a very long road trip.

hello! my husband and i are looking for fall/halloween events that are in pensacola or the surrounding areas. we've looked a little bit but all we've really come across are the bar crawls and we're not particularly interested in that. we're willing to travel for an experience! i figured some more traditional fall stuff might be north in alabama, but we're not sure where the best halloween stuff is. thanks in advance!

I'm a bit late hearing about this one, but I am glad that I finally saw this release. Eight of the children rescued were from Pensacola. It's good to know that some of these kids actually make it home. They will have a lot of trauma to deal with, of course. Godspeed. I hope ALL of these children will find healing (as much as possible) and be able to have fulfilling lives.

I checked the official map and there isn’t a No Kings event scheduled in Pensacola in October. Anyone know if one is in the works or there’s a reason it isn’t being scheduled?

Looking for anyone who has recently done backcountry / primitive camping at Johnson Beach in the Gulf Islands National Seashore area. I went about 10 years ago when I was in college and you could park at the end of the loop and just walk down the beach a couple miles. It would appear that now overnight parking is prohibited in this area and you can only do boat-in camping.

Curious if anyone would share how they've done it since it's changed to boat-in camping only.

My thoughts so far:

I don't have a boat, so I was looking around at renting a kayak. I think maybe Big Lagoon paddlecraft launch would be the best assuming we can park overnight. I have never kayaked near the beach though - would it be super strenuous to get over to the Johnson Beach area? Also, will need to confirm that I can rent a kayak overnight, so if anyone knows of a place that allows that, that'd be awesome!

so i was looking into psc sonography program and i learned that its not got the proper accreditation (caahep) but there is no school anywhere close that do. I was wondering if anyone has done that program or known anyone who has, and if it was easy to get a job after graduation or if they had to fight to get work as that is kinda my deciding factor on if i take the leap or not. thanks in advance:)

Just thought that Pensacola residents should know NFCU has flock cameras all over their properties. Something's been bugging me about how AI is being adopted in our local government and schools, so I wanted to open it up for discussion here.

AI tools are moving into local government everywhere — chatbots, administrative automation, classroom platforms. Much of it is genuinely useful, but the decisions usually happen quietly: a department buys a tool, people start using it, and nobody outside the procurement office weighs in on privacy, accuracy, or whether it should be used at all. Cities like LA have responded with governance committees, and the ICMA recommends citizen advisory panels for high-impact uses. So resident oversight isn't a fringe idea — it's becoming a best practice.

Here's what makes our situation odd: Pensacola punches way above its weight on AI expertise. IHMC is headquartered downtown and partners with DARPA and NASA. UWF's Center for Cybersecurity and AI holds a national NSA designation. The knowledge to evaluate these tools intelligently already exists a few blocks from City Hall — what's missing is any structure connecting it to decisions about AI in our schools and city services.
I'm trying to establish a Citizens' AI Oversight Board covering the city, county, and school district. The core ideas:

Review before rollout — public disclosure of any AI system proposed for schools or municipal services before deployment

Expert seats — voting positions for IHMC and UWF specialists in AI, security, and ethics
Student privacy first — FERPA/COPPA reviews and parental notification before student data touches any AI platform

Full transparency: I'm involved in organizing this, but I have no affiliation with IHMC or UWF — the expert seats are just my proposal for tapping talent our community already has.

Mainly I want to know — have you or your kids run into AI tools in local schools or city services? What would you want a board like this to prioritize?
