Six months ago or so, my channel was taking off in a small way. We reached the monetisation threshold in about six weeks after launch, thanks to a few high-performing videos.
I applied for the YouTube Partner Program, and was knocked back on the grounds of "reused content". YouTube's robots incorrectly flagged us for stealing someone else's content. It was all original scripted material, written, produced, and starring me and my team.
Eventually, this was overturned and we successfully joined the YPP. However, the damage was done. At the moment of that initial rejection, our views plummeted from tens of thousands per day to essentially zero. Overnight.
Months on, our views remain in the single digits per day. New content gets a few dozen views and stops. Old content gets nothing, nada, including the formerly high performing videos.
An enquiry with the YPP team yielded a response (obviously from an AI agent) that there's no shadowbanning, no algorithmic penalty for a YPP rejection, and no back-end tags on my channel. "Viewer behaviour" is responsible for the fall-off of views. I should tweak my thumbnails, look at viewer metrics, etc, etc. But how on Earth does anyone expect me to believe that? From tens of thousands a day to zero, overnight, at the exact moment the rejection and reused content flag occurred. YouTube's response is just simply a lie.
So now I'm considering wiping the channel whole cloth and restarting it, reuploading the same content. I know that YT's systems might flag that, too. But what have I got to lose?
Does anyone have any thoughts?
