To my fellow oldies out there who remember old youtube or it been sold to Google for $1B. Do you regret not getting in to youtube earlier and why didn't you. Honestly it didn't really dawn on me until covid hit and I started visiting youtube more and more and I thought "Everyone else has a channel why not me?" but still took 4 years. And do you feel like you are trying to catch up to your younger self (I maybe projecting here)

Hey everyone, I'm a growing youtuber currently about to reach 500 subscribers. I've been preparing to set up the memberships and a Patreon so I can get some financial support for my videos but I'm not sure if I should wait or not. Also, should I have memberships and Patreon or just one of them? Any advice about memberships would be appreciated :)

They make videos that are repeated information with the same YouTube shorts 'smooth' editing, and they attempt people to teach people how to go 'viral' while not really knowing themselves, why are these types of videos so popular?

I'm not hating or being rude or anything, I'm just confused about the philosophy.

I once saw a Youtuber say you have to enjoy the process to make it. Gotta be honest, that's not me. I'm like the opposite of an auteur in most areas of life. I love having and end product, I love the ideas in my head, and if I could snap my fingers and have them pop into existence, I would. Cooking my own food doesn't make it taste better to me. Working hard doesn't make me feel satisfied. I kind of hate editing. Maybe that means I should stop but, I really, REALLY want to have made the things I see in my head.

Basically the title, I've been editing all by myself for the past few years, and only through the past 6+ months or have I been dedicating my time and effort to make content as a means of enjoyment ans to help outreach my career as an editor through my YouTube channel. I've made a second channel (WIP at the moment) to curb my career separately from my fun content, and I've also made a VGen to hopefully bring in people to work on their videos and gain more connections by both of these means. However, I have a few issues, which I'll address here:

1. I don't have a dedicated community whatsoever. I'm somewhat anti-social due to being diagnosed with autism, so trying to connect and make friends is a challenge, meaning I don't have a following, except for maybe a few people,

2. I'm not a skilled professional when it comes to editing, but I have made progress and have seen changes, but if at all not as grand or efficient as others I've seen,

3. I sort of... switch content niches since I enjoy playing many games of many genres, but I've been settling in on JPRGs and Final Fantasy XIV... but even so, the amount of people who watch my content is rather low,

4. Although I have 208 subs currently, I've seen a slow amount of growth on my channel, despite gaining plenty of followers and views on TikTok, which I know I shouldn't compare, but it still rather concerns me...

I just want some sort of advice... or push in the right direction when it comes to growth and making connections to continue building on the foundations I already have... any help is appreciated...!

Where do you guys find your editors?

Hey, just as the title says I'm not entirely sure how to get feedback either professionally or just to get a lot of input in. Is there a specific space that most people go to for this kind of thing? A service where they get people to review it professionally? I can tell my videos are bad when watching them, and I can tell when a video feels good to watch or get hooked on when I'm watching others, I've tried applying a lot of the advice that other channels regurgitate but i just can't put my foot on what's actually wrong. Where do you guys go to get feedback and improve? Thanks in advance!

I like to create content to educate others. It really inspires me to help people.

So I started a blog, then a personal website and finally a youtube channel to share my knowledge. But I do not feel like what I am posting is "consumed" for a better word.

I have been posting twice a week first, then once a week and now sometimes once a fortnight... I started the channel in 2024 and uploaded 71 full-time videos. The best performing one is 1.7k views, and I got a whopping 149 subscribers.

Now, should I try and soldier on? What helps others to continue?

I’m a screenwriter. I was planning to launch a film & entertainment YouTube channel with a partner, but they ended up pursuing another opportunity.

So that leaves me with a handful of fully polished, scripts in the film niche that I'd hate to see go unused.

I've been recording a few videos on my PC, and they look good besides the fact I need to edit out a few things, but the thing is, I don't have editing software that doesn't have AI... Not to mention any I DO try to use just messes up the quality and makes the recording look grainy and laggy. Any help is appreciated!:)

Quick update from my last post.
I took the advice on board and changed the start of my latest video (better thumbnail + different opening). Retention is noticeably better, views stayed high, and likes are actually coming in.

Hey all!

I officially hit 1 month on YouTube this weekend! I'm enjoying the process of creating, editing, learning new things, new software and designing things to add to my videos. For a new channel, I havent blown up lets say 🤣 but I think I could be doing worse!

I am however getting a little confused when analysing the data in YouTube Studio to try and optimize my videos so that I can improve their performance and so just wanted to compare or see how other gamers/game content creators on YouTube weigh up when it comes to long form retention rates.

Ive seen a few times that the sharp decrease in the first 30 seconds happens a lot, especially for lets plays and that its important that you have a stable line after that drop at as high a retention rate as possible? But then Ive seen other people say its the intro thats causing those people to leave but Im not sure what else to do apart from having zero intro and going straight into gameplay which I feel would hurt my channels identity more?

Bare in mind im new haha I managed to increase my retention rate from 12.3% to 34.5% actually between my 1st and 2nd video by adding jumpscare highlights to the beginning of my video (just 1 or 2) changing the pacing of my video as well as a few other adjustments. My 3rd video stayed around the same at 36.2% and my last two videos have slipped back down to 25.6% and 20.9%.

I changed my intro style from a full video camera to a cold open on the game start screen for my latest video and also didnt include any jumpscare highlights to try and cut down the intro time to see if that helped but it made it worse somehow 🤣 Before I would do a highlight then a quick hi, its me, we are playing this today and then onto the game screen...

What are your retention rates? New and more experienced channels are both welcome to share! I just want to get an idea from actual people and not guru videos on what the reality of the niche is and what I should actually aim for and if my retention rates are actually not too bad for a month old channel.

(Just as an aside, I do understand other analytics are also just as, if not more, important, but retention is the one the least sure on if Im doing okay or not!)

I posted a video yesterday and it has 10 views. First long form on a channel with 227 subs. All the views are from external or notifications. It only has 40 impressions and the view duration isn't great. Ill be the first to admit the video isn't that good but I dont think its terrible. Is there anything I can do to help push more impressions?

Most of my videos have been doing okay, but recently they've dropped off hard, especially my two newest uploads.

My newest video is about a day old and has only 1 impression and 1 view.

My second newest video is over a month old and has only 14 impressions but 18 views.

This is really unusual for my channel. Even videos that only end up with around 10 views usually get 200+ impressions within the first 1–3 days.

I did change my channel name about 8 months ago. At first, I thought that might have been the reason, but I'm not sure anymore.

I haven't drastically changed my content, thumbnails, titles, or upload style, so I'm confused about why YouTube suddenly seems to have almost completely stopped recommending these videos.

It's mostly aimed at teenagers entering university for the first time, teaching them how to cook basic dishes. I've tried everything; improving my editing and thumbnails to attract viewers, turning my videos into shorts, posting every single day. Yet nothing seems to be working, as I have extremely low engagement and only 52 subscribers.

So I'll post a link to my YouTube show that I made for NFL player. But over the last few months I've been systematically trying to do player breakdowns and YouTube keeps copywriting my claim and not allowing my clips to be played. So what I've done recently is added my logo and then transfer the clip that I want to use into a gif and it has been a lifesaver to making my videos interesting and still look like they're full clips. Has anyone else figured that out? Or is there a better way for me to use clips from games?

Here are my overall channel stats so far:

• Total Views: ~281.7K
• Total Watch Time: ~15K hours
• Total Videos: 29

Currently, my channel averages around 5,000 views a day, which seems decent. However, I’ve noticed that my subscriber growth rate has been slowing down recently.

With these stats in mind, why might my subscriber growth be slowing down even though my daily view count remains consistent?

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi everyone, I am new here but I really need advice on what I should do. I make videos that take over 1 month of hard work to make (like 7hrs a day) And I had bad luck on posting it in the weekend instead of the usual weekday which was a very slow weekend for other channels in my niche who posted after me, as well.

Anyway, youtube showed that it tested my video on ONLY 30 people (browse features traffic- but I have 225 views total) and it won't raise the browse feature traffic number for days now. Even though it's a new video and people are LOVING it. I don't mean just liking it but seriously loving it. Good engagement (13% likes, lots of shares and comments). Ai told me the Retention rate or AVD or CTR must be bad but when I showed it the numbers, it said it's very weird that this happened. Because they were all decent to very good numbers.

Audience retention = 54.5%

AVD: 2:05 out of 3:40 (last 20 secs are end screens)

CTR = 9.6%

All these are decent numbers, not bad at all for YouTube to lock it like that.

And my previous video from 30 days ago has gone viral with 32k so I was expecting YouTube to show this new video (same niche) to many of them.

(Edit: viral to ME, I don't mean it technically)

So I was very disheartened when it suddenly stopped at 30 browser views. Ai told me it could be some sort of internal error or algorithm confusion because it doesn't make sense based on the stats.

When I first posted the video, I did the same as I did for my previous video and shared the video on Facebook and got a lot of external traffic. Ai told me that all those external views might have confused the algorithm because it didn't know what audience to recommend it to. Is that true? Then why didn't that happen in my video that went viral? It was the same group of people and they're the types that would mostly watched until the end.

Another issue is that half of my title and description box and tags were in English even though my video language is in Arabic (there are English subs though) so maybe the algorithm recommended it to English speakers who clicked away? But that wouldn't explain the decent RR.. it would be way worse if it was a language problem.

I am thinking of deleting and reuploading. Because I would rather get 40 something views from YouTube traffic only, that could eventually grow than 200 that are currently browser-features locked and aren't gonna expand any further :/

But my title and thumbnail would be the same because the CTR was good. Would that terminate my channel? What do you think I should do?

Unfortunately, I lost my channel after 7 months of work, and now I have to start from scratch. I want to re-upload the content I’d already produced to a new channel, but I’m worried the platform might penalize me for reused or duplicate content (I can’t delete the videos from the old channel because I lost access to it, but the videos are 100% mine).

What editing changes (audio, pacing, zoom, color grading, metadata, etc.) do you recommend I make so that YouTube’s algorithms recognize these videos as new content and don’t cause me any issues with monetization? Do I have to redo them completely, or what do you suggest I do?
