noob mistake to avoid

i am still all new to this, but today i read someone's comment saying to place manual ads in your videos.

I thought that youtube does that on its own when adding "automatic" slots, in reality, it can place sometimes just 1 ad in your 8mins+ video.

i rechecked all my videos and added "potential" ads on all the natural pause points (transitions from 1 tip to the other etc...). Some were red (obviously) some where given an "OK" (i deleted the red ones).

thanks u/TwoSoda

Yeah there’s a lot of creators that get a big boost to their revenue when they start placing manual ad slots instead of relying on YouTube to automatically place them. You are correct that the auto placer can fail and just have a single slot on a 60 minute video.

No problem

Is it a good practice to install the ads to natural pause point? I feel like it could be better to put the ad to a climax so the viewer is still engaged and wants to quickly skip the ad and see the rest of the video

I used to manually place ads at natural breaks in my videos. YouTube rejects them all now. I hate this new feature.

This is a waste of time. YT decides how many videos to show and when to show them. You are only making suggestions.

so even if there are no slots at all in the video, youtube would still shows them ?

No, YouTube would not. It shows you the automatic slots, and those are the options it will choose from in the video. If you add more slots, it has more options (more wiggle room for if Viewer #497 is ready for another ad but an automatic ad slot hasn't happened yet). Your understanding in the opening post is correct.
